SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Dec 23rd

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Dec 23, 2015 3:30 am

Good Morning!

Today is my 3/4 birthday. and there are presents! But DH says I can't open them until Friday. Darn.

IRISH - Check you my post in the sew-in for the second half of my bird/cat story. I was just reading in the paper two days ago about a 7 fishes dinner, which I'd never heard of before, and then yesterday you tell me about another one! Is this a 'thing' now? Has it always been? Why am I just hearing about it now? Oh right - I don't do fish. Maybe that's why . . .

TINA - You've done so much baking! Your back must be aching! Oooh! A poem I be making! Talent I be faking! A plea I am making for a plate I be taking!

JANA - our ski resorts are the same - they have several feet dumped on them, it took out the power to run the ski lifts and people can't get to them anyway. So nice that your son and DIL have taken that boy in! I bet he's much happier with them!

BECCA - so nice of you to make your neighbors cry with your cooking! Just teasing - it IS very sweet of you! Prayers for your DB. If you pray for mine, I'll pray for yours.

CAROL - a sort of pork chop stew in a skillet! By golly, I think I'll try that tonite! You've never steered me wrong yet! ;o)

CHICKIE - yoo hoo!! Are you stuck to your sewing machine?

So tonite, I'm am going to try Carol's pork chop skillet dinner. And then make a list so I can hit the grocery store at 0600 tomorrow morning for ingredients to make a caprese salad and an asparagus dish to take to my DB's for Christmas dinner. The other guest will be a family friend who lost her husband a few months ago. No pressure here about the food, but this friend is a retired Hollywood food artist. She's done the food for many movies, and one of her main contracts was Subway. She made all the food for their commercials. Because she has the same last name as my maiden name, she always comes to our family reunions and her dishes always look like a photo shoot! Mine hardly ever do! lol!

So, amidst all the busy preparations and upcoming big meals, what's for supper at your house tonite?

Good morning,

Mary - happy 3/4 day! I am just past my 7/8 day - coming up to fast! We had a bird get in the house once through the vent of the heater - heard it in the furnace room, opened the door and then all the others as well, finally got it out.

Becca - dinner sounds delish for Christmas! I love soufflé!

Dinner here will be simple - tacos or burritos - which ever I have shells for.

I am sewing jammies and finishing DGS quilt, and cutting the sashing for DDIL. And I thought I was done! Sheesh - kids -still love them!

Merry Christmas!
Jana

Good early afternoon from semi dreary, semi sunny, but warm, SW. Pa....Good weather for whatever needs done, inside or out.....

Just had a message from DS, Terry in N.C. He and the boys will be leaving about 2:00 this afternoon, ETA about 9:00 give or take....Talk about being excited...I'm sure these fingers won't hit the right buttons but ......

Mary, Happy 3/4 birthday! My heavens that bird really didn't want to leave did it? You know, I know have this vision, as Bill put it, your house is now in a cartoon...But, I can also imagine the frustration, seeing what 1 little bird can do, really feel bad about the damage....For sure my cats aren't going outside......

Not able to stay and chat, little uglies to finish, gifts to wrap and those cookies are not baking themselves, darn.......
But, for my eagle friends, we do have a little brother or sister in the Ft. Myers nest and in the Panhandle nest, the 1st egg has hatched...And now, I have to turn off the puter and get something done....

As for dinner, I have sauce and meat balls in the crock pot for my travels and might allow Jim to have some for his dinner.....

Happy eating...............

Mary, I forgot, The seven fish dinner is an Italian tradition that's been around forever and I think, it's to bring good luck....Our neighbor, buddy Ted's mother, was a strong believer in doing this every year for Christmas Eve..Not sure if anyone in the family still carries on the tradition, I know Donna, Ted's wife, doesn't.....We have 1 very huge Italian store near by and that's were everyone goes..And this time of the year, their parking lot is packed and they even have men directing the cars.....It would have to be a dire emergency for me to shop there around Christmas although, I do love their eggs.....This store brags about their Italian eggs and I'll tell you, they are almost twice the size as a normal egg, really good and cost no more.....

Around here, we have our own tradition...Mass either Eve or early morning, brunch with pancakes, waffles, ham, bacon and sausage arund 11:00 and then onto the gifts...After that, if anyone can still move, it's on to the next house.....
We'll be going to Kevin's later in the afternoon and I'm not quite sure who all will be with us or joining us...With Terry only being here for a week or so, he has too many places and people to see...I'll be glad when he's back home, that will be my Christmas/birthday gift.........

I haven't touched my sewing machine since I said I was finished. Just a lot of busy here... went to see Mom and my sister yesterday.

This morning I baked some fruitcake bar cookies. They are so good!!! Now, I have to hide them to have some for Christmas. I'm one of those strange people who like fruitcake--not just any fruitcake, but some really good ones. These "cookies" are packed with fruits and pecans, a little binder to hold them together, and glazed with a sugar/orange juice glaze. They have no citron in them, although I even like citron. I had to make something "pretty" to put on my lovely new plate my sister made and gave me for Christmas. It has a snowman on it.

Dinner has been an assortment of miscellaneous items--leftovers and add-ons. Tonight will be more of the same. I need to get creative with stuff...

MAry--such a funny/crazy/tragic (for your wine glasses) ordeal with the bird!!! Never a dull moment with pets!

Hi Everyone,
I just returned from a trip to pharmacy/grocery store (same). Parking was a nightmare. Two of the four grocery stores recently closed. The two that closed were both the same and they went bankrupt. It has created a frenzy at the remaining stores. I had the Doctor call in a prescription this morning when I was at the opthalmologist and wanted to make sure it was there. However, I am finished!

Mary - Happy 3/4th of a birthday.
That is one story you can re-tell around the campfire! Sorry for the loss of broken items though. Don't forget to season the porkchops before browning. I have added bay leaves, when I remember, before covering and simmering.

Becca - How do you make crystallized peanuts?

Jana - Happy sewing for GKs. It sounds like fun. Jammies are simple too!

Irish - So glad you will have Terry with you this Christmas! He is probably almost there right now.

Farmchick - I love fruitcake! I like mincemeat too! I am unsure of why people don't like fruitcake. Your bars sound good. Any chance of sharing the recipe?

Mary - Don't look!
Tonight's dinner will be Mary's "Mac n cheese", a salad, potatoes and a vegetable. I do this to counteract all the peanut brittle, rocky road and cookies I have been eating.

Carol
