SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Dec 9th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Dec 09, 2015 3:37 am

Good morning!

Had a doozy of a storm during the night. Power was out for about 1.5 hours and we heard terrible cracking and crashing. We jumped out of bed, thinking that dang tree was coming down on top of us. It didn't, but we spent the rest of the night in the family room at the far end of the house, sleeping on the couch and recliner. Achy backs this morning! Now we have thunder, which is not common for this area. Our fur-kids are totally freaked by it all!

IRISH - Bill and I are with you - no venison here! I grew up on it and hated every bite. But funny story - my SIL was cooking it one day in their house and their dog, a golden lab mix, came in the house, stopped stock still and sniffed. He looked up at a deer head on the wall, ran over to it, and started barking! then he ran to the stove and barked at it!! Back and forth he ran, barking his goofy head off. He KNEW mom was cooking a deer!

CHICKIE - Maybe you have uncovered new depths to Doyal's palette. I'm talking Mexican food here, not venison!

BECCA - My DH isn't much of a sweet fan. Cookies? He's your guy! But when it comes to pies and cakes, he can take them or leave them. Especially cheesecake. So guess who ends up eating everything so it won't go bad!

TINA - how was your birthday dinner at your SIL's? Did they let you eat cake?

VELDA - you might want to re-think getting that cast off!

Last night we ended up making burgers, fries, and salad on the spur of the moment. My brother, Jim, and his wife, Terry, stopped by on their way home from a late doctor's appt. It was a dark and stormy evening and they were in need of a fire, family, and food. They had just learned Jim's bladder cancer is back, after four years. He was clear in August, but now his bladder is full of tumors. He also has Parkinson's and heart problems. So the supper gods were with me last night, and I was able to get everything thawed and cooked in about 45 minutes. I'd even baked cookies yesterday so there were 'afters' to offer. Jim will be having surgery within the week, I think. Scheduling will probably happen today. The doctor wanted to do the operation today, but Jim is on aspirin for cardiac/stroke issues, so they are going to wait a week, I believe. Anybody got prayers?

Mary, prayers for Jim, I hope everything goes well.
My birthday supper of lasagna and salad was delicious! No birthday cake but she did make Pillsbury cherry turnovers which were very yummy :-) we made it home about 9:30. Jazmyne's program was really good, the theme was Christmas in Mexico, all the kids did a really good job! Jazmyne was a reindeer and looked so cute :-)
I laid out hamburger for supper, just not sure yet what form it will take.

Glad you made it through the night! That is scary! Poor fur babies! They aren't crazy about thunder here, either. As for venison... I still don't like it, but I eat it if it is smothered in taco seasoning or chili powder. I usually mix it with hamburger, but forgot this time and it's almost more than I can handle... lots of salsa! Oh well. The guys do a lot of hunting and make burger and jerky. If DH goes and helps with the butchering and grinding, he brings some home. He hasn't hunted since I came on the scene. I don't do the butchering... that makes it too personal. I don't want to know!!!

So sorry to hear about Jim's latest... hard, too, this time of year. Peace be with them! So good you could offer a port in a storm last night and offer food and comfort. They needed to talk.

We heard this week that DH's former coworker took a turn for the worst... she's the one I made the floral quilt for earlier in the year. It's been a long fight for her, too. Looking for a miracle for her, too.

Becca--that had to have been your best Christmas!

Tina--I haven't had those turnovers in ages. My friend and I used to get the Pepperidge Farm apple ones when we were in junior high and make them when we got together. The puff pastry seemed 6 inches high and oh so flaky! Sounds like a happy birthday!!!

More leftovers here with fresh salads... I want to sew today and also go into town and see Mom and my sister. Maybe I won't be gone too long. Crunch time!!!

Good morning,

Mary - Prayer is my second laguage, of course they are there for you and Jim!

Becca - tell DH he'll have share those brownies, I am on my way!

Chickie - there is one major banned food here - venison! I will starve before eating it, even covered in spices!

Dinner - we had burgers last night out and so I need to cook todayl maybe chicken parm, we will see.

Heading off to sew - Sarah might be here later to dirty my kitchen making cookies and candy.

Enjoy,
Jana
