Looking for suggestions for simple projects for seniors.

Hello Everyone, I posted this over in sewin but know not everyone reads that section.

I and some others in our senior community are trying to put together a craft day for our complex. We want to get some of our elderly, especially new folks, out to meet their neighbors and just have a wee bit of fun doing it. Laughter and friendship is the best medicine in the world. Being a part of something beyond your 4 walls helps the loneliness and the long days of winter too.

They have banned the coffees since it turned into a gossip session with only about 5 showing up each week and office staff could hear the conversation from their office. New folks wanted to come but were so discouraged, never came after one time. The five were not very friendly or welcoming to newcomers.

We want to start a group that gets together once in awhile and makes things while getting acquainted. Since the holidays are coming up, I thought maybe some simple coasters, (felt and fabric cut into cute shapes like hearts etc, I have plenty of fabric scraps) or perhaps even covering a pencil cup or even a small wastebasket with scraps.

We would invite folks to bring in whatever they are working on and join in the fun and maybe show us what they are doing. I need some simple ideas to get started. I understand there used to be a quilting group in here but younger folks just not interested and leaders are in nursing home now.

I have traveled a lot over the yrs and been in numerous RV parks with craft groups that are so much fun. Office agreed to let me do it if I can get it all put together. Not sure what some of these folks are capable of doing so will start simple and work our way up. If I didn't have a hubby who needs caregiving right now, I would just do it in my home. Not possible, right now.

We have considered card making too to send to shut ins or those ill. I just need to find some ideas to get started and I know you all are involved in so much in your own lives. Any suggestions will be considered.

Thanks so much for caring. I just feel a burden God placed on my heart to do something loving and fun for the folks in here that does not involve coffee or food. So many are diabetic and it can cause lots of problems if they forget or just chow down the sweet treats.

Please pray that we can start small and reach a few of the lonely and sad, especially with the holidays and cold weather around the corner. Even just one person helped, is worth the effort.

God bless you all for being there whenever we need you. Thanks again. Love and hugs across the miles, Prayers for all you needs today and always. Shirley Mae

I make little angels from wall paper. Get out dated book from furniture stores, or you can used stiffer individual sheets sold at Michaels - also in a pad. There is a sire I will PM you later on tonight, as I do not recall the name.
