SUPPER CLUB - Monday, May 18th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon May 18, 2015 4:55 am

Today is the 35th anniversary of Mt. St. Helen's eruption. What a day THAT was!! We were camping and got ash all over us! The rangers came and woke us up and told us to get out. The kids were 5, 7, and 10 then. The ash was falling like snow. We packed up in just a few minutes and then they wouldn't let us out on the road because the ash was ruining car engines. So we hung out in a picnic shelter for several hours. Finally, we got on the road for home, and had to stop three times so Michael could clean out the air filter. What an experience that was!

BECCA - hope your sore tooth turns out to be nothing!

IRISH - how was the dance performance? Besides awesome, I mean.

TINA - Kenn and Sue are a kick! Glad you got to visit with them!

CHICKIE - like you, I'm not a big beef eater, but pot roast is definetly preferred here over the fancier cuts.

JANA - how did your quiet dinner for two turn out? I love that your family is so big and so loving and so together!

SONYA - your pot roast sounds yummy!

I'm not sure what will happen on our table tonite. I'd like to grill some chicken, but we invited our friend, Tex, over for supper on Thursday. His wife is gone for 3 weeks. He follows the Paleo diet and the chicken would be good for dinner with him. But so far he hasn't responded. So, depending on what he says, will determine what we have tonite. So it will either be chicken, or maybe pasties. Coming from Michigan, Bill loves pasties, but I don't make them often. I wonder if I could wrap them in foil and bake them on the outdoor grill if it's a warm evening . . .

Hope you can decide on a menu for tonite easier than I seem to be able to!

Good morning,

Well, the smell must have drifted all over the valley, Sarah stopped by, I babysat Ethan, while they were at choir practice, and then Aaron, Kate and Gracie showed up. None stayed very long, so dinner was just the two of us! Very tasty!

I think tonight i will do my one pot dinner - tortellini, broccoli, and polska kielbasa, with swiss cheese sauce. Easy as I will be sewing most of the afternoon.

Mary - scary being that close. We traveled up to Seattle in July that year - took the train because we were worried about the ash and our car engine even then. The next year, I flew up there again and from the air, the destruction was so evident - I have never seen anything like it.

Enjoy!
Jana

Hello everyone, got checked out at DDS. He sees no reason for the shooting pains other then sinuses. There is a tooth there that we have been watching for 3 yrs. It can use a crown so I am getting it fixed to see if it calms down then.

Trying to make myself stay inside to see if that helps allergies.Against everything I want to do.

Mary's Yes I remember very well but being on the East coast we saw only Thur TV news.Looked horrible.Could not imagine living there.

Jana know you enjoy all your family being close.I really miss mine as they have all grown up & most have their own families.Just more to love.Just wish more lived closer.
The DGS in WA stays in closer contact than most of others. He was very close to us.Grew up living beside us.

We will have leftovers. We both love the chicken pie so no problem.Have roasted asparagus and cole slaw too....happy eating. Becca

Irish Thank you for the kind thoughts. It is not always easy but we do our best...

Good afternoon from slightly overcast but very warm, SW. Pa...I think we'll be getting showers later today but whatever happens, happens....
We just came back from planting flowers on all the graves and that's getting to be too much of a job for us...Now, I need to tackle my flower beds and do something with the hundreds of flowers that I bought the other day.....My sister called and told me she's done with her's but I couldn't talk her into doing mine for some reason....

Our day yesterday was great in a way but very hard on Jim...What should have taken 3 1/2 hours to get there, took 5 and I was worried we wouldn't get there in time to see Cari dance but we then had to wait about 2 hours before her dance was called....But, once again, she was wonderful and placed 3rd...She kept telling us, we always bring her good luck but she's quite a gal, I'm so proud of her, not only for her dancing but her whole self....

Mary, of course this is Irish step dance, is there any other kind?, lol....When you see hundreds of kids, mostly girls from ages 6 and up, in those unbelievable dance costumes and curly hair, it's amazing...Some day, if I ever again learn how to post pictures, I'll let you all see my Cari....

We didn't get home until almost 10:00 last night and that bed never looked better....Today, after I do some more planting, that might be it...I did all the driving and this old body just isn't up to that abuse, lol.....

As for dinner, that might be hit and miss...I'll have to check the frig, not sure if there's anything left in there that hasn't turned green and is still edible....But, once again, I have Pizza Hut on speed dial.....

Happy eating.................

Good Evening All.....would like to say weather is perking up....but its not....another morning of heavy rain....not a bad afternoon....but its belting down again now.....

Maryz....a little background on your "Dr.Who" quilt...Dr Who is a time traveller and travels through the universe in his Tardis. the Tardis is based on the Police Box of my childhood....on the left side under the pained window was the times the policeman would be in attendance and the next one down was where the telephone lived...the door was on the right hand side....in "those" days the policemen rode around on pushbikes.....
Dr Who started in the sixtys....my kids absolutely loved it....but...they would hide behind the sofa and covered their faces but always made sure they could peep through their fingers.....the cybermen and the darliks(sp) were the enemy.....one of my sons used to be an avid Dr who collector.....he collects fancy watches now....
the show is still going strong....though I do believe it was "rested" for a few years.....

Well this quilter do not make to the Malvern Quilt Show this year.....after a couple of bad nights....my driver did not feel up to the journey....never mind...the quilt loot is safe....and will be there for the next show.....
todays menu.....leftover Pork(from sunday roast) Creamed Potatoes...Carrots and Cabbage.....Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce for afters.....getting there with the Ice Cream.....
forgot to say....as kids....we always thought the policeman went in the police box to make a cup of tea.....

Mary....that was some camping holiday you all went on 35 years ago...

Good afternoon! I remember watching the eruption and ash on TV. All those poor animals… That is quite a story you can tell to the grandkids and your kids can tell to their grandkids! I for one am happy you got out safely!!!

Speaking of beef… I heard something on TV on one of the shows DH was watching. A lone star tick, if he is carrying the enzyme (or whatever it is) and if he bites you, can make you allergic to beef!!! That would be a great tragedy for DH! For me… not at all!

Pasties??? I am not familiar with them.

Here it will be hook, line and paleo… from the PNW. Sorry Mary, I do try to disguise it for you… Accompaniments will be broccoli and maybe sweet potato. But, wait, I have fresh asparagus… We might have creamed asparagus rather than broccoli.

General Lady Carol—thanks for the Dr. Who info. I’ve never seen or heard of it, but I love the little police box! Oh that’s funny about thinking the policeman was in the box making a cup of tea! Kids think and say the darndest things!!! When I was a kid in San Francisco, on telephone poles, there were call boxes… about a foot square maybe. The blue ones were for “Call Police” and the red ones were for “Call Fire Dept.” So sorry you didn’t make it to the quilt show.

Irish—congratulations to Cari! So glad you made it to the program. That must really be something to see. I have Pizza Hut on my phone, too. I’ll call them when I’m on my way home from out of town and pick it up as I pass by Parsons.

Becca—I had the same call at the DDS one time on an emergency Saturday afternoon when I was in agony. I fought the sinuses the whole time I lived in that town and haven’t had anything quite like it since leaving there.

Jana—glad you enjoyed your “dinner for two”. I might save my broccoli for tomorrow and add tortellini and kielbasa and some kind of white cheese sauce.

Enjoy!

Finally decided on supper!
Ribs, baked sweet potato and salad! :o) It's hard for me to plan supper in the warmer weather, longer days.....I kinda fly by the seat of my pants and slide into my chair just in time! LOL catch my glass of water so it doesn't fall over ;o)
