SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, May 17th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun May 17, 2015 3:25 am

Good Morning!

Today is Norwegian Independence Day! And since my children are all Norwegian on their dad's side, we do celebrate! My mom's way of celebrating (even though she was Irish!) was to bake blue bread. I'm not sure why unless it was because she loved my DH#1 and that was his favorite color! lol!

BECCA - hope you have a nice, quiet, relaxing day after your hectic week.

VELDA - have a great time at your son's and enjoy those grandkids. I'm sure they'll be thrilled to have you cooking their meals!

IRISH - happy travels today! Enjoy the dance! Is it Irish dancing?

JOANNE - I know you asked Irish, but she's on the road today, so I'll give you MY answer - I rec'd a Betty Crocker cookbook for my Jan, 1971 wedding. But Autumn, who loves anything of mine, confiscated it and treasures every single little brownie stain and scrawled note I put in it. My DH#2 gave me another edition about 1988. I have that one equally mucked up but I love it! It's my go-to book. Bill always says, discussing a cooking question, is, "Let's ask Betty".

CHICKIE - well, maybe you can skip the floors next time . . . lol! I think Odie and Tink need a little mat outside and inside their little doggie door! One of those special, dirt clinging mats they sell at Costco. I wonder if they actually work . . .

TINA - spicy chicken and salad sounds good to me! I think that's what we'll have tonite, too. probably on the grill. Supposed to be 67* today which is warm enough to BBQ!

What's for supper at your house tonite?

Good morning!

Yea, for Norwegian Day! I have Norwegian ancestors.

We have been eating, though a missed meal should happen! Today I am throwing some pork steaks in the crock pot for our dinner. It should be a quiet dinner for two, we shall see.

Enjoy!

Oh my, Tina...what fun!...Have a great time!...I have a chuck roast in a slow oven (300 degrees) for about 3.5 hours..I put a cup of coffee, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, some garlic cloves, a couple onions and a couple bay leaves in a ceramic stone pot with it..I will make mashed potatoes and buttered carrots to go with it...Everyone have a nice dinner!..Sonya. (Both the pro steaks and chicken pie sounds great!...I've never made pork steaks in the crock pot...will have to try it sometime...)

Good afternoon and happy Norwegian Day!

I also have several Betty Crocker and Better Homes and Gardens cookbooks. I started with my first “Betty” in 1958 in my first (only) foods class and had a wonderful teacher who really gave us a good foundation. Then, I had my mom and my grandma—both of these ladies cooked for their careers.

Not sure if anything will help my dogs! I’ve put mats in front of outside and inside the doggy door and still I wade through sand, gravel, dust and dog hair! When it gets over my ankles, I HAVE to clean it up! Of course, there is the large, adorable dog that wears boots that get muddy… someone before me (his mom and first wife) fell down on their job of teaching him about MUD, and he’s too old to teach new tricks now… because I have definitely tried!!!

I have half a grilled (grill pan on stove) steak that DH didn’t find, and it will be turned into fajitas this evening. DH likes the steak, and I like the onions and peppers, so life is good.

Sonya, your roast is how I do mine, but DH doesn’t like pot roast. I think he never had it when he was a kid. His mom bought the expensive loin roasts, but I grew up with pot roast … maybe once every couple of months for Sunday dinner. We didn’t have beef very often, and then it was hamburger or a cheap cut that had to be cooked low and slow… still my favorite! I like to throw potatoes and carrots in it as well as celery and onions… just like Mom and Grandma made! And, BROWN GRAVY! DH hates brown gravy and when he was six years old, he ran away from home rather than eat it. He got about six blocks from home before he came back at dark. No brown gravy for him!!! For a guy who usually eats anything that doesn’t eat him first, he has some definite druthers!

Tina—you are so lucky!!! Give Sue a big hug and tell her hello from me!!!

Becca—I like chicken pot pie… with the veggies… and rather than make crust, I’ve put sliced (like noodles) filo dough over the top of it sprayed with butter-flavor spray… or you can brush the sheets with real butter if you are not watching the scales. DH does like it, but he would like a beef pie better. LOL!

Jana—I’ll bet someone smells out your chops! I’d be sniffing the air if I lived close to you. Who knows, I might bring a salad or dessert…

Enjoy!
