SUPPER CLUB - Wed, April 15th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Apr 15, 2015 3:11 am

Good Morning! Happy Tax Day! I hope we're all good there!

VELDA - always glad to have you at the Supper Club "meetings"! And you don't have to wait for me to start it! If you are here and I'm still sleeping, have at it! I'm not the queen - just the princess. lol! Know you will enjoy the family reunion! The mammo - maybe not so much . . .

CHICKIE - yay for homemade pizza! Yay for time to quilt!

TINA - glad you got a good Outback. Actually, the only bad one I've been to is ours in Tacoma. Some people put nutmeg into their mashed potatoes. I don't mind it, but it IS a different flavor. I'm more of a garlic person, myself.

JANA - so much going on at your house! and it sounds like much of it involves bending, lifting, and carrying - 3 of my least favorite things! But it will be nice to be finally fully settled in, won't it.

IRISH - so this ham/cabbage/potatoes is really a 'thing'? Tell me how you put it together. and not in "Pittsburghese" either! Tell me in normal American. It does sound tempting.

LADY CAROL - we certainly don't want you to be Carol-No-Mates! I have to resign in several times a day. One day last week, I had to sign in twice just to get my post in sew-in. I figure they were trying to tell me something . .

JOANNE - you live from Cincy about how we live from Seattle - 40-ish miles. And we rarely go there except under protest. So sorry to hear that Earl lost his brother. I'm glad he and his surviving brothers found something to laugh about. You know what they say about laughter -it truly is the bests medicine.

Supper. Here's the thing: Company arrives tomorrow and we'll be having BBQ'd burgers for a crowd of 8. Next day will be spaghetti. Tonite I need something that leaves no leftovers. I'm considering fried potatoes and eggs. I'm sure Lady Carol has a much more picturesque name for that, but I think that's the plan here.

Happy Suppertime!

Good morning from warm, but slightly overcast, very green, SW. Pa....All at once, we're green and lots of green, which means lots of weeds that shouldn't be there and grass that is growing as we speak....
Jim decided to burn some of the brush he had raked up and then I had to try to find one of the flower beds and in turn, now I smell like smoke and can hardly breathe...I should have just stayed inside in the 1st place, lol...The living room will be done today or as soon as I get out and get new mini blinds and liners...But, it's clean and the dining room is next....

Mary, I don't know if I dare let you in on the "secret" ham/cabbage/potato recipe...It's really, really difficult to make...After everyone is tired of the interesting ways to use up that Easter ham, you take what's left, usually I have the piece with the bone, throw it in a big pot, cover with water and cook...After awhile, cut up potatoes and a head of cabbage, (no special amount), throw them in the pot along with salt and pepper and cook until done....Some use onions, some put in bacon but mine is just the basic, easy peasy......

Joanne and Mary, I am the same way about Pittsburgh...The only time I go near is to get to the airport on the other side of town...And it is a shame, Pittsburgh is a gorgeous city and has lots of very interesting things but for me, too much traffic and all that congestion.....Put me on a back road and I'm happy....
Mary, would Seattle be the nearest airport to you?
And speaking of mashed potatoes, I've never heard of using nutmeg but I do like to use a little onion powder.....

Joanne, so sorry about Earl's brother...But, it is good that the brothers were able to have a good laugh..Thinking back, it was good to hear friends tell funny stories about Chris during that terrible time...It's a good way to heal...

Carol, Oh no, you're not a "Carol No Mates"...I have to sign on at least once a day...And I'm waiting for you to come up with a good name for Mary's dinner because I'm thinking of having the same thing.....Just wish I had some of your jammy donuts........

Happy eating............

I haven't made cabbage, ham and potatoes for years (Earl doesn't like cooked cabbage, but loves brussel sprouts and cole slaw! go figure)but I think I did add onions and even green beans once in awhile!. My way to make it is just like Irish...so easy! And really GOOD!

Tonight will be dinner at 3pm so we don't starve at the layout. We have to leave home by 4pm so we will go to Mama's.

Good morning!

I got my uglies done - they were the uglies! I have a cat - need to say no more! Organized the cold storage room, where the food is kept for this house. Just waiting on Sarah to come on down with the boys to help.

It is still snowing here! As I look my clean window to the east - I have about 6-8 inches on the ground - that is probably the most that we have had all year. I can drive - it is not sticking to the roads.

Driving in Salt Lake City is not that bad - San Francisco was a whole different animal. It wasn't all that bad to drive in the city - just needed to know where you were going. When I went to the Giants games there, we would take the train in - so much easier and didn't have to find parking and walk 6 miles! Salt Lake is laid out in a grid pattern - so finding where you need to go is very easy.

Dinner - I made a good recipe of chicken parmesan - saw it on America's Test Kitchen the other day - came out wonderful - there is two leftover pieces, but I doubt they will make it to dinner - lunch maybe! LOL So I have some turkey burger in the upstairs freezer, so that stroganoff will get made.

Enjoy!

I mailed my comfort quilt to our friend this morning. Yesterday was a great quilting day, and I finished it and sewed the binding by machine with a leaf stitch since the quilt was full of flowers. Now I'm working on my next project...

Joanne--so sorry about Earl's brother... My condolences to your family.

It's a gloomy, damp day... more sewing! I have a pot of ham and beans in the oven, which means cornbread to accompany.

Irish--mine is close, but no cabbage... that's a no-no for DH... because it's GREEN and a VEGGIE... no cabbage, no cole slaw, no Brussels sprouts. Sigh! I would love cabbage and ham, even with a few potatoes. It sounds delicious. Actually, we're just having ham (bone included) and Cajun flavored 15 bean mix. I forgot to add more Lima beans--my favorite, but next time...

Back to my sewing room...

Hi Y'all.
I am here very late, in fact, I am getting ready to go and cook our dinner right now.

Tonight is pan fried chicken strips. I will do some sort of potato.
I have a package of scalloped potato, or I might do instant mashed potato????? Add a salad, and we always do a fruit bowl for dessert.

The leftover chicken will be the topping of a dinner salad for tomorrow night.

Then Friday night, we will be eating out. Saturday morning is our EXIT day. Dropping the camper off at the dealer to have the brakes checked and then we will stay at our son's house over the weekend and after DH's doctor check up and my Mamo, we will return and pick up the camper and get settled back into our summer site.

So, if you don't see me here for a day or so, you will all know where I am. LOL

Hugs to all
Vel
