SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Feb 26th
Good Morning!
In case you missed it late yesterday, I sent a note, via FB, to Lady Carol and she answered in FB. It's in yesterday's S.C. thread. She says 'hi' to all of us and says she will be back.
It's a drizzly morning so I think I will skip my walk - at least for now. Scottie, who's beautiful sheltie coat is, in places, 7" long, becomes such a muddy mess as most of our morning route is through muddy woods. I think DH and I will go later, together, and take him to the paved walking trails instead. He gets wet there, but not so muddy.
TINA - we were camped in Quartzsite once in a dust storm. I can't imagine driving in that! Glad you made it home safely!
IRISH - I KNEW we were related! We have a mattress warmer and I've kept my nightie under the covers at the foot of the bed for years. I always turn the bed on an hour or so before bedtime and everything is nice and toasty!
BECCA - your soup sounds tasty - and healthy! And you're so right - when you are a caregiver, you really need to consider that person when you are considering putting yourself at risk. My SIL takes wonderful care of my DB who has Parkinsons Disease. If she got hurt in an accident, I don't know what we'd do.
JANA - I'm trying to visualize you with granite countertops in hopes that will help them show up today! Our carpet isn't finished yet. They are coming back tomorrow and hopefully that will do it. Thankfully, our couch isn't back from the upholsterers yet because we can't put it back in until the carpet is done.
CHICKIE - Jana mentioned using polenta for the tamales. I'm not sure what you use, but I was wondering if you put a layer of polenta in a casserole, topped it with your tamale filling and then another layer of polenta, maybe that would be an easy way to have your tamales - in a casserole. Might shock the purists, but I'm all for easy!
I have just a few more leftovers in the fridge - kielbasa, rice, chicken. If I add in some onion, maybe some veggies, or ?? I think it might be soup, though it could be a scramble. Then we could move on to new food tomorrow - which at this point I think will be meatloaf, baked or mashed potatoes, salad, and carrots.
Do you have a plan yet for tonite?

Good early afternoon from Sw. Pa...Not telling you what weather we're having but it stinks.....
Oh Mary, I was all set on putting a patent on my "toasty PJ" idea, lol..But, I'm so glad we're related, love having you in the family...Last night, Jim was so thrilled that he remembered to turn on my side of the blanket when he went to bed...He's having some trouble with his memory and this little thing really meant a lot to him and to me....Bless your SIL, she has to be special...
Becca, Did you get a lot of snow? From seeing the news, NC really got hit...I'm waiting for my DIL to report in...We also have an electric throw and in the evening, I'll be in my chair with the throw (cat on lap) and Jim is in his recliner with an afghan and the other cat on his lap...I don't ever remember being so cold but then I'm usually not in Pa. at this time of the year....But, we all do what we gotta do...Zucchini bread, yummmmmm
Well, Jim has gone to help with the elderly bingo and the cats are sleeping...Not sure what I might get into, probably trouble!
But, I did mix up some meat balls, made some sauce and threw it all in the crock pot..Found more cookies in the freezer so I didn't make the gingerbread yesterday so maybe today........
So glad Carol is OK....Really, really miss her posts.....
Happy eating...............

Good morning,
We have SNOW! That is a big deal here - supposed to snow for a week straight.
No granite people yet - they have to come out here, measure and make the templates for the counters. Then I wait another 10 days before installation. Now you can see why I am antsy to get them here to measure.
I need a few groceries, so later this afternoon, we will make a run to the store. Something will jump in the basket.
Enjoy,
Jana

Today, we still have old snow...on the ground about 6 or more inches...the sun is shining, so the ice "sickles" are slowly melting. The temps are in the 20's, so not too bad. "They" are calling for the 50's next week! lol!
We will have Kielbasa, wild rice and some veggie...and maybe a salad tonight.
Joanne

Good afternoon!
Oh! The mattress warmer sounds lovely! Odie and DH are my dual mattress warmers. I’m all wrapped up in my cocoon of quilts, and DH needs no covers, so a mattress warmer is out of the question. I can still dream… Too chilly to walk here. I spent yesterday afternoon outside in 50 degrees. With the sun shining, it wasn’t too awful chilly.
I didn’t make tamales last evening. Tina talked me into soup, so I put a crock pot full of taco soup on while I was outside. It was delicious when we came inside. I have made tamale pie, but I didn’t like it as much as tamales. I think I’ll experiment with polenta rather than massa.
Jana—the granite people live with a different calendar than you do. It is always frustrating to wait on someone who was supposed to be here yesterday or the day before.
Irish—I can’t get warm enough in the wintertime. My internal temperature goes down—must have no metabolism at all. I know I just need to hibernate and wake up in the spring. Gingerbread sounds so good. I love how it smells! Maybe you will talk me into making some like Tina did yesterday with the soup!
Joanne—Old snow just gets gray and sad. Hope yours melts soon. 50s is our normal this time of year. Today we are 26 with a wind chill of 16.
Becca—I can’t imagine anything more satisfying that a soup when it’s cold outside. I need to bake something to get the house warmer… maybe gingerbread or zucchini bread… Maybe cornbread to go with the taco soup… nah… tortillas or chips for that. Gingerbread for dessert…
Enjoy!
