SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Sept 5th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Sep 05, 2014 3:55 am

Good Morning! another day, another bottle of aspirin. We'll get all this work done soon! Carpets are in, we love them, and most of the big furniture is moved back. Today, the smaller stuff, then empty the last two rooms for more washing walls, painting, rug ripping for the second install appt on Monday morning. All this is only upstairs but some of the furniture is getting changed with downstairs stuff so that's causing a whole shift there, too! Last night on my several trips to the bathroom, I had to make sure not to run into the hall tree which is, for now, parked in the middle of our bedroom! lol!!

ABITA - Jo-jo's are like big fat french fries. I quarter potatoes the long way, coat them with seasonings, and bake them in the oven. I've been meaning to ask you - when we were in N.O. in 2002 we had some terrific beer, I think it was a name LIKE Abita. I could be a bit off on that. You brought back that memory. But now can you clarify that memory for me? Is there Abita beer? And are you related to it? If so - cool!!

LADY CAROL - My mom, who would have been 100 in July, always said her kids' age was their business and her age was her business! lol! Rhubarb and custard sounds so tasty. But while I do find husbands who hate liver and f---, it's a trade-off because they never like rhubarb, so I get deprived.

JANA - will race you on the painting! I have two more rooms to do this weekend. I'm so tired and hungry the last several days even your "PNW mac & cheese" sounded tempting to me! (and yes, I 'caught' it.)

BECCA - I'm praying your DH is showing some improvement today. I have one more dentist story. My LDH#1 was 14 y.o. and sitting in the dentist chair, waiting on the doc. They were on the ground floor. It was warm. The window was open. A rabid dog jumped through the window! the dentist saw it, reached over the back of the chair, grabbed Michael by his shoulders and hauled him over the back of that chair, out of the room and slammed the door. Needless to say, he didn't have to have any fillings that day! True Story!!

IRISH - my young at heart friend! You're so right - anyone with heart problems needs to take antibx before any dental work - even cleanings. My LDH#2 was such a person. How is your Chris doing? Is he still on dialysis 3x/wk?

CHICKIE - you are my dental mentor. If not for you, I probably wouldn't have ever gotten my implants and I am so happy with them. And yes, they were truly painless! You promised me that, I trusted you, and you delivered!

Needing another easy, simple supper plane I went rooting in the freezer again and I found a container of homemade chili. We're going to heat that and have it over baked potatoes, topped with sour cream, shredded cheese, and chopped green onions. Add a salad and we've got us a supper!

Good morning! We aren’t going to be quite as warm today (93 yesterday), and hopefully there will be rain tonight.

My LDH used to have to take Xanax or something stronger before he went to the dentist. I’d have to get a prescription for 2 pills, then get him to take them, hog tie him and get him to the dentist. He was such a wuss, and our dentist was painless with happy gas.

MaryZ—I’m so glad you are happy with your implants! I love mine, as you know. I also love my dentist. He’s close to my age, but he’s not planning to retire any time soon. My RDH said he is taking CE classes in orthodontics, so I’m good to go for some more years. Even if I do have to drive to the south end of Joplin, it’s worth it! Besides, I get to see a friend from work most times. Holy cow! That’s some story about the dog, the dentist and Michael!

I think we may have something with my pasta sauce—tortelini or rice pasta, with some ground turkey for the meat. Hopefully DH will eat it… even if he’s not crazy about tomato-based anything. Too bad, I’m the cook! You know he never goes hungry for long!

Good late morning from warm, sunny, gorgeous, Sw. Pa....I think another day of "real" summer weather and then we're going into the mid 70s with sun.....Just so that 4 letter word stays far away......

Mary, You are going to have a brand new house when you're all done....I love to hear about it and so anxious to see the pictures....And, yes, Chris is still on dialysis 3x a week...He is really, really getting depressed...He doesn't sleep and can't eat because everything tastes like metal...He said, they have talked about the dialysis at home but he doesn't want to hear it...He's still hoping those kidneys start working....Who would have thought???
And your Mother had the right idea about ages...I always think, it's just a number, lately that number has been pretty high, lol....
And today is oldest DS's 59th birthday...He had been born on Labor Day back in 1955....

Well, once again, yesterday's dinner turned out pretty good so we'll repeat it again today....I have been trying to watch and not cook as much but it's hard....I really don't like leftovers after the 2nd day, except spaghetti, lol.....
So, tonight will be stew (made without the beer) and a salad....We have some ice cream sandwiches for after.....

Happy eating.............

Mary, you make me sore with all you're doing :o) Your supper sounds yummy as usual :o) You wouldn't have wanted to be in my house last night for ours LOL but it was yummy too, just not in your eyes ;o)
Tonight DS is going to be here along with DD and the grands so I figured I'd make a meatlaof, it stretches good and it's Jaz's favorite thing in the wjole wide world to eat and that's a quote! LOL Everytime she stays or wants to eat here that's her request, she cracks me up. She's forgotten most of her dentist ordeal and is talking about when she goes back next week and she'll be happy to be done. I just hope DD helps her take better care of her teeth so she doesn't have to go through this again. I might as well hope for ocean front property in the desert.
We are having a very cool beautiful day, I'm starting my Fall cleaning :o) maybe I can talk DS into helping me move some things when he gets here :o)
Becca, I think I'll make the T--a for lunch today with tomatoes and avocados :o)
Chickie, these sauces you've been making make my mouth water, they sound sooooooooooo good!
Later gaters

Let's try this today...the other day my computer shut down!

I think tonight will be burgers on the grill..I put together some Southwest Penna pasta from a box, by Hidden Valley. And made some green grapes with cream cheese, sourcream, sugar and vanilla..and a tiny bit of brown sugar...it is awesome!

We ate at Mama's Grill on Tues, Wed, and Thursday, so it's either burgers or Wendy's! lol!

Good Evening All......weather still good.....no jackets needed yet...

I did think it was going to be an "alright"day.....until I found my first swiggley row of the quilting was all bunched up on the back.....so guess what I"ve been doing all afternoon....and still haven't finished.....what is sewn in minutes takes hours to undo.....aaahhhh.....slowly going off my head......

Tomorrow could be a better day.....I live in hopes.....

Maryz....at the moment I am so glad I am not in your house......well....when you have finished....I will be glad to visit.......but Sir is still painting all our fences......and that is quite enough to be going on with......quite excited to say though....while he was painting near the pond....we discovered we have frogs.......

todays menu......Duck and Orange Pate Salad with Tiny Potatoes......
Fruit Cocktail and Cream for afters......

Maryz, You are correct - we are in the same Abita Springs as Abita Beer Co. No relation though! They do make some delish beer and their root beer is wonderful.

Becca--I pretty much eat tomatoes at every meal and less of everything else. I'm always sad to see the season end. The watermelons are winding down, and cantaloupes are finished. Tomatoes are still producing. You are right--DH doesn't survive without his red meat (I have to sneak other types in on him.)

I made lasagna tonight using turkey burger, my pasta sauce, mushrooms, baby spinach, ricotta... you know how it goes... I didn't tell DH it was turkey. Some things are better left unsaid. He liked it!
