SUPPER CLUB - Sat, Aug 16th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Aug 16, 2014 3:58 am

I saw on FB only 19 more Saturdays until Christmas - after today. Are you ready? What are you serving?? lol!

CHICKIE - so after all that trouble, how much marinara sauce did you end up with? I have a homemade sauce I make sometimes that takes the prep plus 3 hours of simmering. I never thought of canning the sauce. I make it for baked ziti and my recipe makes 2 9x13's - one to eat and one to freeze. Is Big Ed's where we went?

BECCA - is your garden winding down yet?

CAROL - I love it when the little kids come! We need to get some of those. We're all out of little ones in our family.

Interesting that so many of us are having potato woes. What's with them this year?? I store them in a bin at the bottom of my pantry. Maybe it's just too warm? Our garage is even warmer so I can't put them out there.

Once again, it turned out that I lied to you about supper. I ended up making homemade pizza. It's so easy and so quick that it's one of my go-to meals. So finally, for tonite, we'll be having those pork chops. I already have them out, thawing. Not sure what else yet will join them on our plates but something will happen, I'm sure.

I hope something happens for you for supper tonite! Maybe a waiter will bring it to you . . . .??

Good morning from sunny, but still chilly....Warming up to the high 70s, thank goodness....I'm tired of this "winter" weather, need some heat!

I keep my potatoes in the basement and it's really not that warm down there but they aren't lasting like they used too.....

Today, Jim is taking care of the menu...He made up his mind yesterday that today we would have pizza...Not a bad birthday dinner and better yet, I don't have to do the cooking or the cleaning up.....(I'm sure Jim will pull out the paper plates)......

Happy eating.....................

Good morning,

Tonight or this afternoon, may just be eating out. It is our 39th anniversay - does not seem as long as long sounds! LOL

Feeling much better today - that 24 hour crud did me in yesterday and DH the night before - but we are doing well.

Enjoy -

Forgot -

Chickie - you can cook your sauce and then run it through a food mill - that will let you run the pulp through and the skins stay in the mill. Saves peeling and most of the seeds stay in the mill as well.

Mary - Sarah and I have a friend that pointed out the same fact about Christmas - we decided that she needed to be beat - guess that there are 2 for that! LOL

Irish—Happy birthday to you!!! Hope this is a special day and that you have a special year and many, many more happy birthdays! Pizza definitely works for me! And, no cooking or clean up—perfect!

Mary—I ended up with 9 quarts of the “scratch” sauce and 5 pints of the Mrs. Wages’ package one. I also made 9 more pints of salsa since between DD and I, there were only 4 pints left. I may make another batch of spaghetti/pasta/pizza sauce, or I may just make some fresh salsa and eat as many of the other tomatoes as I possibly can before they get bad. Big Ed’s is where you went. It’s still delicious—really good last night.

We have leftovers for dinner—steak and potato, and I’ll be adding salad, tomatoes and watermelon.

Last night, our friends came by here and we sat outside and visited. The dogs were locked inside as one of the gals hates dogs—can you imagine??? Each couple took a watermelon home with them.

Jana—I don’t have a food mill, but the food processor worked like a dream. I don’t mind the skin or seeds—bonus fiber and just adds body. Happy anniversary to you and many more! I had that 24-hour crud last weekend.

Becca—that’s a LOT of green beans!!! I would have to get another freezer to take care of them. I would have frozen my sauce if I had more freezer space.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend—bon appetite!
