Re: Hip Replacement
Yes, Caroline. I had my right hip replaced in February of 2008. I had a great experience and am so happy I did it! Before I had it I couldn't do so many simple things that I can do easily now - like tie my shoe or trim my toenails. For about 4 years before the surgery I wore slacks to church because I could not possibly put on pantyhose! (That turned out to be a good idea, and even though I can do it now, I VERY rarely wear pantyhose!)
My new hip turned out to be one of the ones that were recalled, and I had to go back every year to be checked, but mine is A-OK. The doctor said last year that it didn't look any different on the X-Ray than it did 6 weeks after the surgery. I walk 5 miles a day with no trouble. My hubby tried to tell me it was only guaranteed for a million steps! The Dr. Said probably 15 years, but I'm hoping for 20. When I'm 87 I think I'll be content to sit in my rocker and knit!
I would encourage anyone who is considering it to 'go for it'.

My hubby has had both hips replaced. His was because of a side effect of the Lukemia he had. But, like Gmann it was the best thing he ever did. When he woke up from surgery he said he felt so much better. He had pain from surgery but not the problem. I hope this makes sense. I wish you luck.

Re: Hip Replacement
I'm pretty sure our forum friend Sew Glad (Ruthie) has had both hips replaced since the forum started in 2006 or 2007. Perhaps she still lurks occasionally and will see this post and be able to give you her experience.

My husband Troy had it also and has done great with his new artificial part. Just wish all the arm prosthesis works as well as his hip replacement

Re: Hip Replacement
I had my right hip replaced in October of 2009. Before I had it done, I couldn't even walk on it because of the pain. I had a very good experience. When I woke up from surgery, NO MORE PAIN!! I was ready to get up and get going. It felt wonderful. Since I've had it done, I can do anything. We walk during the summer, and this past summer, I even rode a moped. I just pray that you do have the surgery and have the results I did.

Re: Hip Replacement
My mom had two hip replacements and said the hip pain was gone from Day one. But the IMPORTANT thing is following through with the P.T. And we have friends - he had a hip replacement and she had her knee replaced - one week apart. Both did their P.T. as ordered and were back on the golf course within 3 months.
