SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Sept 29th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Sep 29, 2013 3:32 am

We are having near record-breaking rain this weekend. Boy, is it wet! Part of a maple tree crashed down in our front yard, breaking off our power-meter pole and taking down the wires. This happened while we were gone for only 45 min. We had to get a power crew in for a temp fix and Monday they'll put in a new pole and repair it right. Then the crew had to race off to another emergency. A busy weekend for them.

I think I forgot to eat yesterday. We had so much going on - uglies, laundry, errands, the tree, a separate power failure. I never even cooked, let alone posted about it. We ended up heating tomato soup on our wood stove.

I think tonite's supper will be fried potatoes, eggs, and ham. If the power holds out. If not, we have our flat-topoped wood stove and another can of soup to fall back on!

Got power?

Mary, I'm so glad the tree didn't fall on your house. We had that happen a couple years ago. I noticed you were not eating yesterday, since you didn't start this post.

We have a few days of good weather before more rain is coming.

If I have the energy dinner will be chicken and peas, don't think we have enough lettuce for a salad.

It is slow going, but DH and I are making progress. I'm going to get all the fabric containers out and spray or wipe down, then bring them upstairs today. Once that is done I have to empty the bathroom cabinet, then start on the garage. We got several things out of the garage yesterday, but it is so full we would probably qualify for that hoarder show. By the way our garage and unfinished area is equal to a 7 car garage. DH has lived here since 1983, so he has lots of stuff!!!!

Nice overcast cool day here.MARYz When we had our blizzard we were without power for 5 days.It is no fun.Glad the tree did not get your house.

Lyn It sounds like your work & cleaning is on going.Praying for you.

JOANNE Sorry about your friend but the quilt on top was very touching I am sure.

Yesterday was quilts of Valor all day. They are wanting 64 quilts by mid March for our local troops who are going to Afghanstan.Said they are all young. We are trying to get as many as possible. Some others here are supposed to help.It is over whelming. Two of the ladies made us lunch yesterday.Homemade soup, crusty bread, fresh fruit salad, & brownies. It was so good.We plan to start working another day each week to try to get enough quilts.

Today after church we had salad,& sandwich. No afters.Plan to make biscotti tomorrow.Gingerbread.Sounds good.......Becca

Hey Mary, can't you use a cast iron skillet on your wood stove??? Or if you have a covered area outside, DH can fix one of his famous Dutch Oven dinners! We were watching the US weather and saw all your rain! A little too much of a good thing..

We're supposed to get some rain today through tomorrow...

Last night was burgers on the grill from Market Day and a big salad and corn on the cob...from Krogers and probably the last of the fresh stuff...no more farmer vendors.

Tonight??? who knows. I'm kind of achy today and don't really feel up to cooking.

Lyn, I must have missed something...what's going on with all the cleaning????

Good afternoon from warm, sunny, SW. Pa...So far, no rain in our forecast but I do see, while watching the Pirates and the Reds, it is raining in Joanne's area....

Oh Mary, how scary...We have a few big trees near us and when we get a bad wind, which doesn't happen too often, I pray they don't come down...And by the way, for those of us who aren't on facebook, we also need to see the pictures of Autumn's quilt..Please............

We did go to Mass and then stayed for a pancake breakfast made and served by the Knights of Columbus....Very, very good....

We're also staying home today. Kevin and his DW were invited out so Jim and I are on our own...Which we all know, if left alone too long, is not good!

And as far as our dinner, it's going to be hot dogs and sauerkraut....Jim and I both have been hungry for hot dogs and why not dress them up a bit......So there it is, easy peasy............

Joanne, sorry to hear you're hurting....Does the weather have this affect or are you doing too much? Also sorry our Pirates aren't being nice to your Reds...But, they promise to be extra nice on Tuesday, especially is we win......

Happy eating..............
