I have a front loader, HE version that I love. I am so thrilled to be able to wash a whole quilt piece of fabric in one load.

Gotta say that I love my front loader.
I was told by a repairman (not for my machine) that one of the reasons for the odor was too much laundry soap being used....I think he may be on to something. I have been using my homemade laundry soap (one TBSP per load) for about a month or so now and there has been NO odor! Clothes are super clean and fresh smelling and are much softer...

I got a top of line front loader but would not buy another one that front loads didn't realize how often I use to add another item after I had started it and you no longer can do that not to mention you have to buy special cleaners to try and get rid of the bad smell that don't work

If I were getting a new washer, it would be a front load.
I used a front load, at the laundry mat, to wash some of the fabric to remove possible mold spores. I used a delicate cycle and there was very little fraying of the fabric.
