Need advice...re: books on sale

Post by Susie » Fri May 11, 2007 4:48 pm

OK...I feel like spending some money tomorrow when the sale starts!
Since I am a beginner I am thinking I would like to buy the Log Cabin book and the Flying Geese Book and the Quick Trip Book. Are these good beginner choices? And...if I buy these books are there certain rulers I should be buying to go along with these books? What size Flying Geese ruler do I need to get for that particular book? Also....what other rulers should I be getting to make this process the easiest possible? All I have is a big cutting mat and a 6" X 24" ruler!
Thanks for your help....

Ok heres the great thing about ordering books on here,,,,,,,,,

When you click on the book you want it has a list at the bottom of the page that says what supplies you need to get with the book!

All the books your thinking about are great but I believe you should also get the "through the seasons" book too. It had so many quilts in it and they are all very easy! NO Y SEAMS! when you have made those than you should move on to egg money. Egg money is also wonderful but IMO more for the advaniced quilter.

Susie, welcome and hello! Go ahead and get both sizes of the Flying Geese rulers, they are great and you'll use them both for many projects. A 12-1/2" square up ruler is very nice to have and a mainstay. A 6x12" is very handy, too. And a 6" square ruler. The Clover rotary cutters are very nice. Your book choices sound great, you'll enjoy them a lot. The first QIAD quilt I made was the Flying Geese and it was so much fun. There's a ruler combo pack that's a good deal and if I'm not mistaken, it has both sizes of Flying Geese in it plus a couple other rulers, too. QIAD methods are the absolute best. You learn the basics and are so much easier to understand than other methods. You may want to get a DVD that goes along with your books, too. Eleanor takes you step by step thru everything and follows the books, so it really is very helpful. It's like taking a class right in your living room. Log Cabin is a classic and I dearly love Flying Geese. So happy to have you join us and look forward to hearing more from you! Happy Quilting!

I also recommend Still Stripping. All patterns based on the 2 1/2" strip. I just recently finished the "Don't Fence Me In" quilt top which was very easy to do.

I like that, "winging" it with the "Flying Geese" rulers!

Susie,
Great choices for books for beginning! Quliting is addictive but completely legal. I would second the suggestion for getting Still Stripping. It is a great book with cool quilts that are easy. Lots of variety. Welcome to the sisterhood of forum quilters. Pull up your chair and enjoy your time here.
