THURSDAY, January 22nd

Good morning,

It's going to be a great day! I slept! Almost 6 hours, waking only twice. My best night in at least 2 months! Hooray!! I almost can't wait to get to the Y. Almost. :D

CHRISS - If those 'sideways' screws don't come out of the pantry/coat closet, I bet Dad can do it. He seems to be able to do anything. They can be little beasties. We have lighters all over our house. Only we call them matches. They work pretty well for lighting things. How long is that store going to give the other person to pick up that quilt panel? I hope you get it. Did you get your sewing room cleaned? And yes, I still have that cat pattern you gave me, but the books will be the focus of this quilt since it's for a library fund raiser. I just remember there is a pattern out there of books with cats sitting on them. (and cats do do that!). I thought it would be fun because I raised my children right - they are ALL cat lovers. Autumn has three. (Sunny, Alki, and Ninja).

LORI - when is your next dr appt? Have you told him/her that you can't sleep? Did I mention baking powder? Oh yes! Chickie's biscuits! Mmmm..... Bill still talks about them from when we visited there - gosh - must be about ten years ago. We camped in the pasture with about 40 head of cattle. Good thing I grew up with cattle and love them! :D

JUDI - I'm happy to hear that Val likes her new therapy and I pray it helps her. Happy birthday to your son! How was dinner last night? Did everyone show up? You know, as I read all the neat things about your B570, I realized I have all the same things on my B480 except a larger throat and the low bobbin alert. I have tons of decorative stitches and just realized a few months ago that I have a button on my machine I can use instead of the foot pedal. I tried it for fun. Would take some getting used to, but I could do it if I had to. So I probably don't need a new machine. Mine is only 7 yrs old.

MARY Q - maybe I will give leeks a try some day. I always think of them as an "add in" rather than a side dish. The calf pain is just about gone. Now it's my shin and ankle that ache in the evening and at night Chiropractors worked on that - held a pressure point at my knee, while I did an exercise with that leg. It really helped, but it's not completely gone yet. Did you get those little quilts finished yesterday? You've been doing some really cute ones! Purrfect size for laps. Glide thread is really nice and looks so pretty, too. We've used it in our longarm, but once Bill discovered Magnifico (by Superior) he won't go back to anything else. Our Nolting loves that thread, and it also gives a pretty sheen to the quilting.

JANA - I can't imagine driving in the fog you described. But pulling over isn't a great option either unless you have a parking lot to get into. Ooh, a new car in your future? I hate when Bill gets itchy for a new vehicle. Fortunately that only happens about every 12 years. I don't like car shopping, not do I like having to learn all the new gadgets, most of them useless to me. Glad to hear your little Enoch, aka Spike, is doing well. Almost all babies lose about 10% of their birthweight in the first few days, but usually gain it back quickly. Is he still on O2? Is he eating yet? Six pounds for an NICU baby is pretty big, so no wonder he gets the blue ribbon! My smallest baby I took care of was one pound even at birth, but went down to 11 ounces. He survived though! Praying Sarah is improving. Pneumonia can be very serious.

LYN - glad you've got El's Victory book. Maybe if we all work together we can remember that ribbon border is in there if one of us ever needs it. Your birds are really putting on a show for you. All we have right now are dinkly little brown birds. I don't know what they are. If I kept my feeder filled all the time, we'd probably have more. It's a great idea to take some photos in for Garry. As much for the staff as for him.

LOIS - I was wondering if you have that pattern of books with cats? Seems someone here bought it a few years ago. I was drooling over that pattern but I'd just bought Book Nook, so I didn't get it. If you have it, can you tell me the name of it?

VAL - if you are waiting on money from the government, don't hold your breath. Because of the 6 week shutdown last fall, it slowed them about 6 months - or at least that's the excuse they use. Lee still hasn't started receiving his retirement checks yet. His official retirement was 5 months ago. And we're still waiting on a refund from an amended tax return from last year.

Yesterday I walked a mile at the gym! A whole mile! Nine laps! Bill is still walking with me. Now, though, he's gently suggested I begin this Tues/Thurs exercise class. I went last Tues. I admit I need it - core and upper body and some hip. It's not too strenuous. But I only made it halfway through the class. I'll give it another go today. I HATE exercise classes! Just putting that out there. I was wearing a quilting tee shirt and immediately another quilter and her friend came over and introduced themselves to me. So that was fun. I'll see what today holds for me. I have my dino quilt all together. I'll add my outer borders today and prep my backing. I might have enough large batting scraps to piece together so I wont' have to open my new bolt of W&N. Then it's going across the hall to the quilting department. I got my sewing room cleaned up and Bill vac'd it for me. It was a MESS!

Our chicken rice soup was tasty last night. The thing with homemade soup is I don't know how to make small amounts. So we'll be eating this again tonite - and maybe tomorrow, too. Or I might freeze it.

Hoping we all have a good day!

Good morning everyone,

PT starts today. I think they will give me exercises to do at home and then return visit in a couple of weeks or something like that. Other than that, probably just sew. DH is off work. They do their holidays weird now since the new company took over. Today is his MLK holiday. I am not sure if he will have something in mind to do.

Lois in my area BJ's if a restaurant. They are pretty good. They do have a few gluten free choices. Reasonably priced.

Maryz I got in over 5 hours straight sleep and then 3 or so more in intervals. I really try to get that 8 hours a day but don't nap because then I don't sleep at night. I am finding it odd that you don't know about leeks. Not sure why I though you should, but?

Lori I think I will try to find my Circle Back pattern and look closely at them. Now you have sparked my interest.

Judi that is scary to be out on those roads. But guess it's not easy to rearrange appointments. We used to live in Quincy, CA. It is mountainous and roads good get hary. I would never drive on them.

Maryq unless I can win this appeal, my raise is now making me $350 less every month! I keep telling myself even if I don't win, it will only be for this year as they look back two years.

Chriss I decided to send the quilt USPS. I do have a tracking number. Almost $50 but I think UPS would have been more. MY son knows it's coming and is home this weekend so hoping all goes well.

Lyn I think I have that book. I will have to search for it. Somewhere in the shed I have a box of books and magazines. It's likely in there.

Well I am not sure why we are eating breakfast so early today but it is ready so I must go. Have a great day everyone. I will try to come back later.
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

Good Morning, Up at 530 this morning,,,Ken was a bit noisy. I did some stuff and drank coffee and started some laundry, towels. Ken brings towels home from the rink. The young hockey players from all over the country and world come in for tournaments and bring the hotel towels with them to shower after the games. They leave them there, (The hotel charges the team for the towels) but they are left behind. The rink donates the left towels to the mens sheltr and woments shelter in their city, But Ken is free to take home as many as He wants, I havent bought towels in years, I wash them in hot water with some bleach and they are good to go...So both my bathrooms have large white fuffy towels..When they get a little grey and worn I take them to the animal shelter along with a large bag of cat food. ( I am partial to the kitties)..and those towels live for a long time there, This last tournament netted about 150 towels. Ken brought 6 home for me to wash,,,
I am working on the Jane blocks. I have 21 more hand applique blocks to make and stitch .
Dinner was sooo good last night my 3 sons were there and 2 daughterin laws.
I got to see ome of my grand daughters and little Navy, We call her Miss Personality. She informed me last night that she was graduated to full time big girl pants and she is very proud of that . ( her words)..
Well I need to tend to the laundry Hope you all have a great day,,,Some one in the weather deot has said we are going to get a big winter storm again,,,Predictions range from 1-3 new snow to over 8inches new snow...I see bright sunshine and 22 out my window...the snow sparkles in the sun...XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

High today should be high 60's.

MaryZ, You go girl, burn up that track. How's your blood clot, dissolving? As for the book quilt with a cat, I think you better add a dog on the floor in front of the bookshelf. After all, you have to be fair to dog owners, too. Lol

MaryQ, I stopped at the eye Dr and gal said because I have VSP eye insurance, my glasses are sent to the same place every time. I know the reading part was adjusted. My phone screen is flatter today, so I my eyes are adjusting. As for the meds for Garry, I have gone over them with Hospice and the nursing home in the last couple days. Some drugs were stopped, like insulin.

Not much change with Garry yesterday. I was there longer than I planned, but it worked out that after his shower I was able to Q tip his ears and he should be able to hear better. I stopped at Walmart and the big HEB in Marble Falls. It was after 6:30 when I finally got home. Poor Minnie was looking for me at the sliding door.

I talked with friends who have a MH and with the cold weather coming I asked him about the diesel tank. They sent a photo of what to buy and put in, then run everything for 5 minutes. Diesel will gel at 14° he said and reports are, we'll get to almost that Saturday night.

I fill prep the MH today. After I see Garry, I'm going over to Bob and Carol's to drop off some diesel additive and a couple other items I picked up for them. I'm loaning them the new machine I had just bought for Garry back in November. You can exercise your legs while sitting down.

Stay warm.

Getting ready for the freeze storm here for the weekend. No fun=everyone is spook, we have no plows and I don't know if salt for the roads is available. We are a 3 season area LOL. Don't believe it. With climate changes going on-its rough to figure out weather patterns now-fingers crossed we don't lose power. Joe powered up the generator (never used and over 8 years old.) Hopefully we do not have to use it.

Joe had a bladder scope this morning 7a.m. YUK! I'm not an early get up and go person especially without coffee. But the doctor found a small spot that he feels is from the bcg, like scar tissue. He is being followed in the study-so it was noted and he'll have another scope in a few months as usual. Now I can breathe for a while.
I also have the El's victory quilt book-what are you looking for in it or have you found it?
Hope the storm does no damage and please stay off the roads if possible.

Good morning!

Another day of rinse and repeat weather here. No snow storms in sight. Mr G has a Dr appointment this afternoon and I will go over to the other store and get things they carry, that yesterday's store doesn't. I need a run across the valley to Trader Joe's as well. Can't wait, we get a new Trader Joe's in a few months. Right next to Costco! Finally, no more traipsing all over the valley! Sarah is doing better, she took Ethan to orchestra and is taking Mr G today.

"Spike " is doing well. Still with the lowest setting of oxygen, but it's really not needed. He's starting to eat, but is a lazy little bugger, doesn't want to work for it. Wants the easy way.

Andrew, in the Dallas north area is getting ready for the cold storm approaching. He has a winter coat ready and knows how to drive in the snow, he's a Utah boy!

Logan is cutting back on his after school doings. When the high school does their big play production, Logan has been the lead on the back stage technical side and told the school he's not doing that now. Logan is working hard at earning money for a trip to Hawaii this summer.. it's a church youth conference and also involves learning to surf. Logan is all over that idea!

Not much else here. Still getting Spike's quilt made.

Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning All

Guess what??? It's cold here!! And once again it's warmer in Anchorage than it is here! We've already hit our high temp for the day 4*--above zero!!! Only place I have to go is to go pick up the dog--2 miles down the road.

Maryz... SIX straight hours!! Now, can you remember what exactly what you did before you went to bed so you can repeat that routine? Did you see the big banner at the top of the screen? Server maintenance on Sunday!!! How fun to find other quilters, are they in that same class you are taking? Or just fellow track walkers--either way it's fun to make new quilting friends. I'll have to tell Viv about the Magnifico thread--she usually orders Glide and watches for when it's on sale and orders several cones at a time. I think Shawn and Kris are going down there next weekend, so I may send one more quilt down for her to do. I think she might have a couple others of mine done. (crossing fingers, as I forget even which ones she has of mine)

Lois..... Coupons? Do places still use coupons? I don't get a newspaper, so I never see coupons anymore. But I sure remember going through the Sunday paper and clipping everything I could find, that I used, when everybody was home and I was cooking for five!! Katie's daughter does that "extreme" couponing and ends up getting a bunch of stuff for free!! Not sure how that works--coming out for free!

Valerie.... $350.00 LESS a month!!! Oh my goodness, Are the taking out Medicare for you and 5 other people!!! What the heck? Or did they think they overpaid you and want it all back now? That's crazy!!!! I can't imagine that it's easy to even talk to a human being at SS these days! Sure hope they figure it out... $350... is a LOT of money---you could buy a lot of pretty batiks for that!! Or FOOD!!

Judi.... Oh gosh, I love those big white towels at the hotels (the good hotels, not Super 8's  ) I haven't stayed at a hotel for a long time, but I have been tempted to ask what they charge for those towels!! Little Navy is in big girl panties!!! Oh what fun!!! Can't believe that little baby Girl is that big already. 3?

Lyn....OH man does 60's temps sound wonderful to me!!! Glad to hear you are getting used to your glasses. Were you able to test them looking down at your cutting matt? That was the big test for me. My brother Greg pulls his big Airstream with a diesel pickup truck... I bet he has to use that additive up here for the cold weather.

Diane.... Freeze storm? Does that mean you will get freezing rain? I don't suppose they have plows down there, but do they put salt/sand on your roads? They use so much of that combination up there, that in the spring they have to come with big sweepers to sweep up all the left-over sand. At the cold temps we have this week, salt and sand don't even work anymore. Thankfully, for now our roads are clear and dry except for an occasional icy patch at intersections. Highways are bone dry.

Jana.... You know, I don't think I've ever been to a Trader Joes, there's one about 30 miles from me, but I rarely go that far from home---not this time of year anyway. They are building a new Costco about 2 miles up the road from me, supposedly done this fall, with Aldi's next door, which is also a place I don't go to, but have heard I should. Everybody is so excited to have a Costco out here, it's going to be crazy for a long time. I think I'll wait to check it out until it calms down.

Chriss.... How did you do with the plan for the pantry closet? Has Dad been able to get the shelves put together where your oven was? How did you do in your sewing room. Seems to be a daily project around here, cleaning the sewing room. It's on the to-do for today too. I clean, then I sew, then I make a mess, then I clean....

Lori.... Yes.... SS raise every year is supposed to Cost of Living raise, but the cost of the Medicare portion is almost more than the cost of living percent! There is some weird formula for how they calculate the keep reminding my kids to save money NOW for when they get old because SS isn't going to cut it! I had a choice of getting all my amount or 1/2 of Ex's... I took mine but it came out about the same.

Guess I'll go warm up my coffee and get busy. I did get a little quilt (about 50"x50") quilted on my Janome yesterday and got the binding stitched down. I'll throw in the wash today and get it fluffed up and cozy. I like to wash quilts after they are done to get the starch or Best Press out of them. I got one other little top put together yesterday, and will get borders on it today maybe. After lunch I'll go pick up Zara and we will have a sleep over---Shawn will pick her up on his way home from work tomorrow nite.

Wishing you all a most wonderful day!!

Good morning. We won't quite see 60* today, but it will be close. Thankfully the fog is done for a while. There is a bluejay sitting on a branch outside my window. I think he stopped at Lyn's bird feeder on his way here. He's a pudgy little dude.

I was unable to get my closet shelves out. they are screwed in at an angle and my drill can't get in there. So I will go with plan B. Not sure what that is yet but it may be to just keep it as a shelved storage closet. I also tried removing a tree stump, guess that will stay too. I do need to get it at least below the ground, probably have someone just cut it down and cover it with dirt.

Today has no plan, Just little things here and there, I will clean my stove. but that is the only necessary job I have.

Lori, I usually don't know what leftover bacon is. Moose has his own bacon, bought in bulk. How was the chili? I've had the Costco chili and it's pretty good. I add cheese, onion and hot dogs.

Maryz, I have trouble making small amounts of anything too. Once you add a little of each ingredient you end up with a 5 qt pot of it. Funny about wearing a quilt shirt and attracting quilters. You could get an "I climbed Mt. Everest" t-shirt and see what happens, just experiment with different shirts. You'll find the perfect cat book quilt pattern. I do have wooden matches but didn't want a box of those to go in my purse. I'm only lighting a few tea candles for the butter warmers.

Lois, hope that bj's list is complete, you don't want to go back out in a storm.

Valerie, sending things in any way is pretty much a crap shoot. Between weather delays and porch pirates you have to kind of be there to receive it. Glad your son will be home. Nice thing about USPS tracking is you can sign up for text updates and your phone will ding to let you know it's been delivered. Hope the PT helps.

Judi, I saw the picture of little Sophia in her snow suit, that is what I see when you mention her. And high five to Miss Navy, big girl pants are a big deal. So glad you had a nice dinner with the kids. what fun. Cool deal on the towels.

Lyn, I didn't even think of vehicle fluids getting too cold. Glad you thought of asking about it. Bob and Carol are really good friends to have it seems. They sound like they are more family than friends. Glad you got your shopping done. Grandpa would ask, as the storm approaches, did you baton down the hatches? and at bed time you got under the feathers.

Diane, hope that storm skips you all together. I also have a generator but no clue how to hook it up. If our power goes out it's restored pretty quickly. We almost never get snow but when they threaten snow there is a Cal Trans snow plow that parks with a paid person in it in our town.

Jana, I smiled when you said Logan is going to learn to serf. But what an experience for him. I'm like Spike, I like to eat but don't want to work at it. Preparing or cleaning up aren't my thing.

Maryq, Dad is doing some things around his house through the weekend. I have to say I am glad to have the time to myself. My sewing room is partially done. I'm going through everythign. My quilt group has a swap at their October meeting, bring what you don't want and take what you do want. I might need a dolly to haul it all in. I also putz all over the house during the day. So many things are partially done.

I've been sidetracked all during this post. guess it's time to have somethign to eat and get moving. I'd like to go get a head of cabbage, I have a couple of garlic sausages in the fridge and I think if I fried it all up with some onion it would be a perfect meal.

You all have a warm uneventful day

Chriss -

Closet shelf removal tool - a Sawzall - it has a thin blade that can cut through the screw - it goes between the wall and shelf , near where the screw holds the shelf in place - your Dad , I'm sure has one, they are the best deconstruction tool ever! Think of it as a over grown seam ripper.

We have those small lighters, with the long tip, to start my stove or BBQ. Here, we call them Flame throwers. Always asking, where did the flame thrower go? Here one lasts forever!
