Happy Hump day, ssssllllooowwww again this morning and I am on my laptop. I wish they would go back to the other system. We rarely had issues then.
Today is mail the DGS quilt (DH took off with my car key yesterday so the day got messed up). Then I will try to finish the new baby quilt and work a bit more on the diaper bag. The pattern is weird but I will take it one step at a time. I wish Annette had more than one Finish It class a month.
Well SS did take out the extra this month for the enormous amount they think I need to pay for Medicare. I have not gotten a response to my appeal so I may call soon. The site says it can take up to 60 days.
Chriss we have been hearing about your fog and yes, I too would rather drive in rain than fog. One time going up the Hiway 70 through the Feather River Canyon it got so bad I couldn't see past the front of my car. What can you do but slow way down and hope the person behind you does too. Gee Sonora is a 2.5 hour drive from here. A bit far to go if supplies are getting low. I will just have to wish you luck. I am also praying you get back to sewing soon. I lived long enough to see the grandkids all grow up, wonder if I can make the great grands?
Judi good luck on your journey. I really am going to try to give it some serious though. My breathing and joints really need a break. I need to set a date, get prepared, and so on. I am hoping after the PT sessions my pain will get better and exercising will help.
Lori I figured it out, the name of the pattern is Circle Back. I don't remember how big the blocks are.
Maryq DH likes to watch the news so we do watch a bit every day. I don't like all the negatives on the news these days. And if I want to know the weather I can look out the window. Right now it is 46* and still dark. Should get to 53. I see the central parts of the state still have dense fog.
Jana how is the new addition?
Lyn how nice of you to bring me some pie. Wish I could have gotten there in time to eat it! It's hard to believe they have that weather in Texas. The last time I spent any time there it was hot, hot, hot! DS was graduating from Basic Training. And yes, despite the heat, the ceremony was held outside.
Flo so happy the machine is working well. I just go off the deep end when something happens with mine. Luckily, at the shop, the owners husband does the machine repair and he is there frequently. So if something goes amiss, we can call him. He will do little things for free.
Tina lots of luck and prayers for your daughter.
Well I need to get the box out of the car to pack up this quilt. I may send it UPS, I am trying to decide. UPS or USPS. Hope you all have a wonderful day and can get on the site.

Good morning,
A mostly sleepless night again. I wonder if I will ever be a sleeper again. I finally got up and moved to the upstairs living room recliner and slept solid for 2 hours. Woke up just in time to go to the Y where I walked 9 laps, 5 without cane! That is a full mile! Yay!! Not to mention it's another full lap to/from the parking lot. Imagine what I could do on a good night's sleep!
VAL - congrats on finishing projects. I've been told if your package is kind of heavy, UPS is cheaper. Otherwise USPS is the way to go. True? Not sure. I do know if you USPS anything from the UPS store they add like 30% to the postage.
CHRISS - glad you got to go to the store that is closing. I hope you get your moose panel. It would be cute hanging in your house. I've seen it or one similar. Sounds like divine intervention to keep you from driving in the fog. You missed Elliott Day but you didn't get into any foggy mishaps. Did you see the 100 vehicle pileup in Michigan? I think that was fog and ice there.
JUDI - good luck on your weight loss journey! I have about the same amount I should lose. Sigh. I'm not very good at losing. Though I have been cutting back on everything (even wine!) since my surgery and it's sort of starting to show on the scale. When I've done hand applique, the interfacing method is my preferred method, too. I tried needle turn but it's ain't for me!
LORI - we have been in Texas when it was a week of 15*. And it does have snow sometimes. That freezing week we were there in the RV park (same one Lyn parked in last month) with my sis and dbil next to us in their RV. Pipes froze in Autumn's library, which was closed due to weather. Then pipes burst, water everywhere, and they lost 1/4 of their books, some walls, carpet, HVAC, etc. Because it was closed, the damage wasn't discovered immediately. Autumn is the director and she had a real mess on her hands. Also the year we were down there when my sister fell and shattered her knee (5 yrs ago) we had two big snowy/ freezing systems. We left between them and prayed our way back to Colorado to get my sis home. So yes, don't let Texas fool you. 100+ degrees in summer, but winter does happen there, too. How is your son doing in Jasper? How is his house coming along? I hope your knot is easing up for you. I hate that you are in such pain.
MQ - it looks like you are in for a deep freeze again. You aren't much warmer than my DB in North Pole, AK! And no I've never tried leeks. No idea what to do with them. I don't even know which part of them you eat! lol! But I would probably like them if someone made them for me. I like nearly all veggies - except beets.
JANA - I love Longhorn restaurant! I'm not much of a red meat eater, but once, on NYE, we went with 3 other couples to the Longhorn in Georgetown, TX and I ordered a filey mignon, butterflied and well done. Best steak I've ever had! Could cut it with my fork. Can't remember if we got brussels sprouts, but if we did, I'm sure they were delish!
LYN - like I just mentioned, we've been there in weather like you are looking forward too. I hope you are prepared as much as you can be and that you suffer no damages. Keep Minnie bundled up! BTW, I love cherry pie. Just sayin'.....
FLO - glad your baby is purring for you! Makes things go so much more smoothly. At one time my hubby talked about taking the course to become a certified Bernina tech. He would have had to go to Chicago or someplace like that for a few weeks. I was all in on that idea! But he never did it. Rats.
Our site is slow this morning. And I'm later posting. But there is good news. Soon, QIAD is moving to a new server. It's the server that is slow - not QIAD itself. To do this they will have to interrupt our forum for possibly up to 24 hours. And Tom, their It guy, told me he will give us notice before it happens. Otherwise, we won't notice anything except hopefully better service.
So, I reached my mile marker this morning! Not to mention all the walking I do at home during the day. I figure if I can reach 5,000 steps at this point I'm doing well. Yesterday was 6,300. I am going to assemble my dinosaurs today. I have brightly colored dinosaur fabric for borders and backing. I don't know what project will be next. I'm in no hurry at the moment, but I'm giving it some thought. I'm thinking of a book themed quilt to make for Autumn to raffle off at her library as a fund-raiser. I have a few patterns, but isn't there one with cats sitting on books? I need to look through my patterns. Maybe I even have it!
I'm going to make chicken/veggie/rice soup for supper tonite. I'd love some baking powder biscuits to go with. I use Chickie's recipe which makes light fluffy biscuits. But there we are with the carbs again. Sigh. So I probably will skip the biscuits.
Why are mountains so funny? Because they are "hill areas". Hilarious, get it?
have a super day!

The birds must know bad weather is coming, they have been busy at the feeders this morning. Daddy Cardinal, a Lesser Goldfinch, House Finch, Pine Warbler, Carolina Chickadee, a momma Cardinal and several others I'm trying to identify with my Texas Bird pamphlet.
Lois and MaryZ are responsible for me going out to the Cabin at 7:30 last night, to see if I have El's Victory Quilts book. I do. Not using it anytime soon, but I will remember it has the ribbon border.
MaryQ, Our adopted Canadian family had a fancy tent they set up on a lake near Winnipeg. Frank thought it was great to sit out there in below zero temps and catch walleye. I like walleye, but not that much.
Jana, The Resort we go to in Ontario, have built new cabins overlooking the marina and they are heated by thermal. They have pipes running out on the bottom of the lake.
Lori, MS now has 17 themed shops.
Valerie, I maybe watch the news for weather. If you want some good news or fairly reported, try these email newsletter. The Brighter Side of News. The Pour Over, is Christian based. The Flyover is news from all over, it gives some info and then if you want to read the whole story you can click on link.
The site is being difficult today. I have typed this on another app on my phone and will copy and paste.
A different Hospice nurse saw Garry yesterday. It was her first day back after 6 months of maternity leave. She took Garry's blood pressure and it was 90 over something. After she left, I talked to the nursing home nurse and found out they are giving him two blood pressure meds in the morning. He has been on Losartan twice a day for a long time. I called the Hospice nurse and she's checking into it. I found a good photo of Minnie and went to Walgreens and had an 8x10 made. It's sitting on the chest of drawers at the end of Garry's bed. There's room for one more and I'm trying to find a good one of him with a fish or one of us together.
I will be shopping after I see him today. With the very cold weather and possible ice coming, I want to be prepared to stay home for a couple days. I already talked to the nurse that will be there on the weekend. She plans to stay overnight at the facility, so she doesn't have to drive on ice.
Y'all have a good day.
Lyn

Good morning!
Well my weather is the same, sunny, cold and no snow! Tule fog, or sometimes called valley fog, is no fun to drive in! One time I remember driving in it, had to to get home, with my head out the window to see the lane marking right next to me! Not fun! It was Hwy 4, in Franklin Canyon, between Martinez and Hercules.
Enoch, or Spike, as we call him, is doing well. Lost a bit of weight, but has gained it back and some more. Opening his eyes and looking around now too. One of the NICU nurses is a friend of Kate's. Loves to get her hands on our little guy. He's the biggest baby in the NICU.
Today we start PT. 3 times a week, for 6, maybe more weeks. The horse, um, car, knows the way! I will make use of that hour, getting a few groceries at a time. The store is about a block away. In days past, I would do all my shopping in one big trip. Not any more, too much to put away, all at once.
Good to hear the news on the site here. My techies were all saying it was the servers. Let's hope the cut over goes smoothly. That's a Mr G term, fron his days of replacing new stuff to run the railroad.
I hogged the laundry room yesterday, sorry, but got caught up on all of ours, even the ironing. Had too, a Mr G needs button up the front shirts for PT. They hook him up to monitor everything.
Sarah has been sick. A simple cold, easily turns into pneumonia. It did. So after I get back from PT, I may be taking Ethan to orchestra practice this afternoon. Sarah has meds now and is getting better.
So that my day, in the car, going all over. Oh, that reminds me, the beast needs fuel! Mr G is kicking around the idea of a new Highlander. I'm sitting on my hands until he's done with PT. He has problems with bending and getting in the Highlander. With a new seat that can move up and down, it maybe easier, but hopefully PT will help with the movement. I'm not in the mood to buy a new Highlander that costs nearly twice as much as my first house!
Hugs,
Jana

Good morning. It/s going to be a beautiful day today. I see blue sky with white clouds and a hint of sun trying to peek out and shine on the green grass making the dew look like sparkling diamonds.
My friend invited me to the Elks crab feed next month. I ordered the butter warmers from Amazon and will buy something to light the tea candles, I don't own a lighter. Before going through this house and purging the excess I could have come up with 20 lighters, but now, nothing. I'll buy one and it will last the rest of my life.
Valerie, UPS or USPS, hard decision. It seems Amazon has been using USPS recently. During Christmas the USPS really couldn't keep up. Crazy thing about the fog is that it could be clear at my house and I can drive a couple of miles and it would be a wall of fog. That Sonora store doesn't have much left. But if they call me to say I can have that Moose Christmas quilt I will go back and get it.
Maryz, I think, unless I am wrong, that some time ago I gave you a cat themed pattern, it was black cats in different positions climbing stairs? you could make the stairs look like books. If you don't have the pattern I think I have a copy. Or google cats on books quilt pattern and get ideas. I like Sew Fresh Quilts. Yay for reaching that mile and more. High five to you. I also believe it was divine intervention my not driving in the fog. Leaving home and coming home in the dark when it's foggy isn't my favorite either.
Lyn, Garry is so blessed to have you be his advocate, and to make his stay more comfortable. I am so glad you won't be traveling during a storm, a couple of days at home will be a good rest for you. Hope your shopping is quick, don't forget the birdfeed, sounds like your birds are telling their friends where the good stuff is.
Jana, while I love my new car, learning how to use it has been very slow going. I don't think about what I need to learn until I am in the car. And I have to take the book out to the car and try the tasks with the car running. I still don't know what my car does. And yes, they are expensive. Glad Spike is doing well. Funny about babies, they eat and gain pee and lose.
My goal today is to clean my sewing room and hopefully figure out how to dismantle the pantry Jerry made and turn it back into a closet. He made things to last forever. Someday, when this house falls down, his shelves will still be intact. Wonderfully frustrating.
This site is still quite slow, so I will hit submit and go get dressed, hoping it actually submits by the time I am done.
I have leftover hamburger and bacon in the fridge and that will be dinner. You all have a fantastic day.
Chriss

Good Morning Girls
A tad late this morning, but it was running super slow when I tried earlier this morning, so I thought I'd give it a little while.. Sandwiched and pinned a quilt while I waited. In a little while I may go get it quilted. With luck I'll be able to check it off on my DONE list!
Valerie.... Don't you love getting a raise from SS, then having them take out even more for Medicare! My raise this year amounted to about $25.... I thought YIPPEE...that will barely buy a couple yards of fabric! But I can pay the electric and heat bill (two different things in MN) so I can keep warm while I run my sewing machines!!
Maryz....Now you can be a member of the MILE Club (not the mile high club!) Sorry you aren't sleeping so well again. Is the pain in your legs getting better or is that what is waking you up at night? I wake up several times during the night, tho can usually fall back to sleep. I did take a Benadryl the other night and slept 6 hours straight---that's so rare!
For the leeks, you cook the bottom about 1/2-1" of the white part
"
Leeks (Allium ampeloprasum) are a bulbous vegetable closely related to onions, garlic, and shallots. They have a long, cylindrical shape with a white base that transitions to green leaves. The edible part of the leek is primarily the white and light green sections, which are tender and flavorful. Unlike onions, leeks do not form a bulb but consist of layered leaf sheaths. They actually aren't too bad, very mild but of course very good in melted butter and seasoning.
Lyn.... Losartan twice a day? I only have to take mine once. Here's a question for your hospice team. Sometimes, nursing homes have a consulting pharmacist on staff or at least available for consultation. They will review Garry's meds and given his diagnoses, determine/suggest some changes in his medication orders. When my Mom was on hospice, especially in about the last 3 months of her life, they determined that it really wasn't as necessary for her to be on cholesterol meds, so they dc'd her Simvastatin. They may have already done a review when he was admitted, but I have worked with pharmacist who did that kind of thing--reviewed all meds taken and evaluated whether the patient actually benefited from them.
Were you ever able to get your new glasses checked out. You are a pretty busy gal!!

Jana.....Doesn't it feel good to get all that ironing done!! Call me crazy, but I used to love ironing Dex's shirts, get the ironing board all set up in front of something good on TV and iron away---starch on collars and cuffs! Good to hear little one is doing better. Would they let him go home early if he gains enough weight? Amazing what cars cost these days,.... which is why I'm hoping my 2016 Escape lasts until the kids take away my car keys!
Chriss... Is your pantry closet big enough to be 1/2 panty and 1/2 broom closet? Did you ever finish your ottoman project? I seem to be getting a lot of Amazon stuff in the mail lately too. A while ago the guy at the Post Office told me that they PO only gets $1.00 per package to deliver Amazon packages.
Guess I'll go get that quilt done. I have one little project sitting next to the machine that I'll finish first before I change out the threads for the quilt. I use cotton thread for pieces, but I love Glide thread to quilt with ---and my machine does too!
Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday! Will hit submit and hope this goes through.

Good morning I was here this morning but the site was so slow I had to leave. It was therapy day for Val and I am her lovely assistant. the roads were terrible I mean very terrible it took us an hour to get to a 20 minute drive. But we made it and she has started her new therapy. they speialize in MS and Parkinsons and strokes. She liked it very much and eveeyone there was so friendly.
O got home had lunch and did some putzing around. opened mail and now I will maybe sew a bit before we go to dinner, Today my oldest "Baby" turns 59. I cant believe I have a child thinking about retirement,
We will go to dinner to celebrate and might even be joined by grand daughters and Navy will be there too.
I hope the new server is better, Ken also said it wasnt my computer or our service but the server that was slow. I gues QIAD found that out too. I am so grateful for them letting us have this forum,, and keeping it running, I try to shop with them when ever I can,,,just to show my support...
Back to some stitching Hope you have a wonderful day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOO

Chriss, I have some matches if you need some. Hope the disassemble of the closet is easy for you. What is leftover bacon? I've never heard of that. lol We had some crazy fog at midnight but it was cleared out this morning when I got up.
Judi, you are brave to go out on the roads when the weather is that bad. Happy birthday to your oldest.
Lyn, when I was at MS there were only 14. I guess I need to go back and see the new ones. Hope you get what you need and stay put if the weather gets crazy.
Maryz, I know how you feel. I wonder if I'll ever get a good night sleep ever again too. I got up at midnight and went to sit in the recliner. It wasn't any better so I went back to bed. I remember when it got really cold in TX a few years back. You're doing great on walking. Now if only you could sleep. Thanks for mentioning baking powder. I'm almost out and needed to put in on my grocery list.
Maryq, Leeks are good in Potato leek soup too. They are very mild. Funny about SS/Medicare. I just started receiving it in November and then got a notice that I got a raise. Then a notice they upped how much they take for Medicare. Really what's the point. It's like a little game. We're going to give you a raise, but then take it back. Just seems like more work for everyone.
Valerie, funny how sometimes I log onto the site easily and then others not. Today has been a bit of both. I looked at the Circle Back pattern and it looks the same.
I have sheets in the dryer, so when they are finished I'll make the bed. I got 7 Wonky Heart blocks done yesterday and several ready to go. I'll work on them a bit today. I didn't run the vacuum yesterday, so today it is. Our weather is back to normal. Much cooler. I guess I'll get out my long sleeve shirts again.
I think I'll make chili for dinner. That could change though since I need to grocery shop today. I might come home with something I want more.
Have a lovely day.
