COLD morning here. 4 degrees windchill =3 too cold to drive to go to aerobics, sew it will be a sew day. Finished laying out quilt top pattern and made 8 pocket quilts yesterday. Will be like Eleanor and put pedal to metal and would love to get that top put together only 48 11 inch squares and finish putting another one together. Really trying to get ahead, everything goes slow.DD1 finds out if surgery is needed on bicep tears. If so up to six weeks helping her in future, hence trying to stock up on tops. Slept restlessly last night like the rest of the group.
Time for coffee. Proud of Judi for losing weight, really struggling with that too. Wish it came off as easy as it goes on.
Prayers to all in need, stay save and warm with the changing weather.

Good Morning I was up at 630 Ken had already gone to the rink. I dont have much to do today so I will empty the dishasher and prep supper. ( take something out of the freezer) I did tidy up Kens office this morning and get the coffee cups out of there, I tend to tidy up little messes around here all through the day. ( part of my OCD) I started another set of blocks on the Jane quilt will get 4 blocks ready for hand sewing and continue with them.
We are 4 this morning with a WC of -7 sun is shining but I hear we are expecting more snow. It s winter next week we will probably be in the 30s and 40s. ( fingers crossed)..
Thank you TinaB for the kind words..You are so encouraging
Lois We can only hope for warmer weather but fridged snowy weather makes for good sewing days...hope your hubby is feeling better,
Everyone have a great day,,,,XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning,

We are chilly, but not like some of you! 35* and mostly cloudy. Northern Lights are supposed to be maybe possibly visible, but probably not with our cloud cover.

LOIS - much as we love our sewing, sometimes other things have to come first. Glad you got your shopping done yesterday without any snowy incidents. What is this new panel you've ordered? Thanks for reminding me where the ribbon border is. El's Victory Quilts. I have that!

JANA - haha! you reminded me of when Lara was about 1 yr old, sitting in her high chair. She'd never seen or tasted a brussel sprout. I put half of one on the tray and she took one look at it, hollered "NO!" and threw it across the room! She still won't eat then. Never tasted them, but still refuses to eat them. I dont' care for them just steamed or boiled, but I roast them, halving the big ones. Drizzle with olive oil, garlic, S&P. Let them get a bit charred, and top with parmesan cheese. Yum! That's a whole different critter than steamed.

TINA B - I didn't know your DD had a bicep tear and may need surgery. Is this the DD that lives in VA or a more local DD? I know whichever, she will greatly appreciate your help! Hope you warm up! I wouldn't be going anywhere in your temps either!

CHRISS - I also love where I live. Summers average about 78*. Winter days are usually in the 40's. We rarely see 90's or temps below freezing. Hardly ever get enough snow to even measure. We do get rain, but not nearly like we used to. We are still somewhat rural at our house, yet everything we could want is within 3 miles of us, or less. Our politics suck but, like you, I ain't leaving. This is home. Good that we are happy with what we have. :D And your casserole the other night didn't sound half bad! That's kind of how I cook - by trial and error.

LYN - I get what you are saying about your and Garry's house. My friend was in the exact same situation and felt the exact same way as you, even after remodeling. They eventually sold and moved to a place that was Theirs. Bill hasn't had a problem moving into my house. I think men are different, though. I bought this place on my own 40 yrs ago after Mike died. Roy was only here for 15 months before he passed away. Bill's been here now for 34 years and really settled in, making improvements, including building his own "cabin" (his 24x36 ft shop). It has become Our house. That's important. I hope next trip to Texas I can get over to see your and Garry's home.

MARY Q - did you babysit Zara? And I bet she didn't want to go outside for even a necessary minute! Dogs are smart! And they can hold it for a log time! What's on your docket today? Hope you warm up soon! About 12 yrs ago, my sis and I got a wild hair and flew to Alaska in January to visit Gene for a few days. Most days were 25* below, but one day it was minus 40*. We went outside long enough to take pictures of each other taking pictures of each other and ran back inside. And yes, our nose hairs froze! Along with other body parts!

LORI - when I was at MS they only had 7 stores. I know they've added on, and I think there is now a hotel or motel and I've been told an RV park is nearby. MS is the largest employer in town. I'm going to get there again one day. I need nothing, but I'm sure that won't stop me from buying something - maybe a lot of somethings!

JUDI, you are really rockin' that quilt! I hope your sewing machine isn't getting lonely. BTW, how do you like your B570? Apparently I almost got one for Christmas, but, not knowing that, I guess I inadvertantly talked Bill out of it! Though Lee reminded him that my birthday is coming!

Yesterday was 7 laps. The long walk from/to the parking lot adds up to another lap. The day I make 8 laps I know I'll be walking a mile! Puff puff! Bill has my old Fitbit watch all charged up so I can start counting my daily steps. But today, there is a class at the Y for people like me - with a chair if you need it. It is gentle and works on upper body and core. I need that so I'm going to give it a try even though I HATE classes like this. I got a brachiosaurus built yesterday and today is stegosaurus day. The very last block in my little quilt. It's been extra work to re-do three of them, but I'm much happier now. Tomorrow I plan to start assembling. Tonite's supper will be bacon and eggs. Tomorrow I plan chicken rice soup to use up leftover rice.

If frogs wore shoes, what kind would they wear? Open-toad!

Make it a good day!

Morning
Lois I miss Shop Rite. Years ago I was a cashier in the Manahawkin store.
Yesterday I finally got to sew with my freshly tuned baby. She's purring like a kitten. Should have taken her in a year ago.
Today is brrr cold, so staying home. Maybe more sew time.

Good morning,

Hope all is well. Still having issues with this site and trying to get on. It doesn't want to work on my phone at all. Guess I will attempt to keep my laptop charged.

Yesterday I finished DGS quilt. Today I will round up a box at Walmart to get it in the mail. I also have to pick up a few groceries. The diaper bag is all cut out except the stiffening stuff so I will get started on that today. I should do some chores but maybe tomorrow.

Chriss I80n has had a lot of fog starting about Fairfield but so far Vallejo has been clear. Looks like we will be in the 50's for the rest of the week. I also try to keep a running grocery list. That way I get what I need and not a bunch of stuff I don't.

Lori I have looked at that Jolly Twist pattern several times. I may try it sometime. Although I think it's the same as a pattern that has circle in the name. I actually have that one started. The last I heard MS had 9 different stores.

Maryq just for your knowledge, I am never visiting you in the Winter. It is much too cold!

Lyn Cherry Pie is my favorite! Hope you saved me some. There is no place like home.

Judi I have got to work on my weight too. I think I should Call Dr. Now!

Maryz Delane (my sewing friend) is 84 yrs old. Sometimes she scares me. I do believe she has a dementia starting (her memory is horrible). She lives alone so that is also a bit scarey. Other than a niece in Sacramento she has no family. Her sibling has passed, of course her parents. her husband and she only had 1 son who passed away in 2023. We take turns calling her just to make sure she answers. She does drive (just bought a new car) but I don't drive with her. The shop does have the niece's phone number just in case.

Lois best to stay inside in that kind of weather.

Well I really must get it in gear. Need to get dressed and out the door. I don't want to grocery shop in the middle of the day. Way too many people for me. Hope everyone has a marvelous day.
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

So y'all feel the need to share your northern weather later this week. At the moment they're talking possible snow and worse, ice, come this weekend. And they are concerned about the power going out. I will be prepared.

Valerie, I did bring a piece of cherry pie home, but I don't think you'll get here in time to beat me to the fridge for it.

Yesterday Garry asked me how long my sister and BIL had lived there. When I got home, I worked on breaking down some boxes that are in the garage and filled the recycling bin, then took it to the road. Today is trash and recycle. Recycle is every 2 weeks. Minnie spent the time wondering in the yard and garage.

Time to get moving. Have a good day.

Good morning!

Dinner out last night was nice. The restaurant is named Longhorn, not Lonestar. We have enough for lunch today.

Bright and sunny. Definitely cold, but warmer than some of y'all. We're about 28! And I have to go out. I have stalled, put off, come up with all kinds of excuses not to go to the grocery store. But it's a necessity now. Milk is dangerously low.

So not much here. A Dr appointment for Mr G was postponed until Thursday and PT starts tomorrow afternoon. This morning's discussion is about geothermal energy. Mr G is trying to convince me that you can get heat out of freezing ground. There's no way on this green earth that you will ever convince me that it works! It's junk science using smoke and mirrors! My opinion. Big argument here.

Well, I'm off to do what I have to, not that I want, but have to, so not in the mood!

Hugs,
Jana

Good Frigid Morning!

Yup, It's cold here. Even Alexa says it's "Brutal" .With luck we will hit14* above today. I do need to run a quick errand this afternoon and I should have the car run for a while every once in a while. Not good to let sit for weeks without running it every now and then.

Lois.. I was trying to picture ribbon border, but now that you mention it, I have the Victory Quilts book, I should haul it and check it out. I'm usually in such in a hurry to get a quilt done that I just slap a plain old border on it, but a fancy border would really add to a quilt!

Tinab.... That's right, you make those little pocket quilts too, I have the one you sent me! My neighbor Katie makes them too and sells them at a consignment store nearby. She's trying to talk me into trying to sell one of my quilts there--I'm considering it.

Judi..... That's the only consolation with this weather.... good sewing weather! Kind of like rainy summer days when "oh darn" I can't work in the yard, guess I'll sew" I can spend a whole day cleaning up messes, by evening I've made all new ones. There are usually several projects all over my couch. I do have to clear it off soon tho, so Zara can have her spot!

Maryz....I'll babysit Zara on Thursday, probably overnight. It's the kids 22nd Anniversary, so they are going out and won't get home until late. Twenty-two years ago, we were standing on a beach in Hawaii!!! You know how I feel about vegetables.... but I did try a brussels sprout ONCE, Kris roasted them---can't say they are something I'd buy! She's been making Leeks a lot lately. Have you ever tried Leeks? They actually aren't too bad. You should get a big prize when you hit 8 laps!! Like a trip to the LQS or at least some ice-cream!!

Flo.... Doesn't it feel great to have your machine work so well. The quilt I finished yesterday, I sewed the whole thing on my little featherweight---such a sweet machine!

Valerie.... I sure don't blame you for not wanting to come here in the winter. I don't want to be here in the winter. I was telling a friend of mine yesterday.... I should have married the guy I dated in high school--retired at 62 and owns a home in Arizona!! I'd be nice and warm now!! But, on the other hand, I wouldn't have THESE kids and they are the best!

Lyn..... sounds like you're going to get a "blue northern" Is that what they call it when Texas temps get cold! In Minnesota we are used it, not that we like it, but there are folks that plant little houses out on the middle of frozen lake, so they love the weather. I call them crazy!!

Jana.....You know how you feel about Brussels sprouts, that's how I feel about peas, asparagus, cauliflower and lima beans!! I can tolerate a pea in soup, but the thought of eating peas straight up--I gag!
I agree, I don't quit understand the concept of thermal energy, but way down deep below ground it's much warmer.

Here's my new mantra.... my BFF shared this with me and I'm kind of wigged out over all the mess in Minnesota.

"Turn off the news.
Go outside. Breathe.
We're not meant to
carry the burdens
of the entire world"

If I was 20 years younger, and had the $$$ I'd be so OUT of here!! For now I've quit watching the news and don't go on Facebook anymore. I need to take care of my sanity and that stuff was not helping!

Time for a refill of coffee and then I'll head to sewing room. Working on another MQS pattern using up some layer cakes!

Wishing you all a happy Tuesday

Judi, so is Ken done with the consulting job now? I know you had mentioned he was going to stop doing that. I bet it's nice to have him home all the time.

Maryz, you're doing great. You'll be passing everyone on the track soon. When I went to MSQC there were 14 stores. I do know that they brought the town back to life by building there.

Flo, I bet it was nice to get the machine out and sew. Looks like it's fixed.

Valerie, I think the pattern you have is a little different. These blocks are 10 inches finished.

Lyn, Snow in Texas is just wrong. It snowed here once in February 2023. It was the craziest thing every. I like a good cherry pie too.

Jana, glad dinner out was good and you have lunch for today.

Maryq, there is a lot going on in your neck of the woods. Something else will happen eventually and they move on. Probably here in CA. I stopped watching the news years ago. It was just making me angry. I block everything on FB that isn't kitties, puppies, quilting, or stitching/crafting. I spend way too much time watching cute dog and cat videos. I guess that's what replace the news. lol

I woke up with a big knot in my back again. I guess the drug my doctor prescribed isn't working. I wrote and asked if there was something else that worked better. I did get some Wonky Heart cut out yesterday. I had a layer cake I didn't know what to do with, so I used it to try out the new block. If I can get rid of the pain in my shoulder, I'll try and sew them today. I also need to run the vacuum around the house.
I think I'll make chili for dinner tonight. It's easy.

Have a lovely day.
Lori 8-)
