Thursday January 15th
BRR here. Only 15 seems so cold after the 50 degrees a few days ago. Not getting snow like Indiana.
Just saying hi to all, have a blessed day. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Quilt tying this morning, yea for cotton therapy.
Blessings and hugs,

Re: Thursday January 15th
Good morning,
JANA - How are things going?? Is Enoch here? How is he? And Kate? Exciting! You better get busy sewing that quilt! Yesterday was Lulu day here. Nice to know we both have sparkling houses now! My DBIL, AL, just got the appt for his dental surgery - Feb 28. He is starting down the same toothy road you just traveled.
LORI - acupuncture works great for some people. Just not me. We know a person who goes once a month for a 'tune up'. But for me, after the first day or so, I saw no difference. I went four times. And it's true, the needles don't hurt. They used about 20 needles they said. It's a calm room, soft music, and after the needles are all inserted you lay there for about a half hour, undisturbed. For me, that was the hardest part. I don't sit still very well. I was bored silly the first appt. After that I took an audio book to listen to. The first appt cost $100 and subsequent appts were about $50. I think it's always worth a try when other things have failed. I find massage and chiropractic more valuable, but sometimes true medical is the best way to go. I hope you find relief soon. Chronic pain is no fun at all. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your painting party!
LYN - Was the meeting with the social worker helpful? Informative? comforting? I pray for you every day.
VELDA - Do you go to the church every day to sew? A prayerful mission to be sure! I put my chili in the crockpot in the morning and let it simmer all day. Smells good all afternoon. And cornbread is a big ole' yum! People praise my cornbread, thinking I have some special recipe. But I just use the recipe for sweet cornbread muffins on the side of the Albers Cornmeal box. lol!
CHRISS - glad you had a happy Smooch Day and bonus! finding a quilt shop that was willing to sell you things you didn't need! They are kind that way. Not sure when my next hip will be done. Not soon!! But I also have a back that may or may not need fixing, too. Dr. says to wait and see if fixing the hips helps the back. Everything is 'wait and see'. Will the windows be the same size as the ones you are replacing? I think you talked about making them shorter, but I can't remember where we left it. Are you doing ALL your windows or just living room?
MARY Q - how do you pin your quilts? I see QIAD has those little bent pins on sale today - 50% off 200 pins. I thought of you and anyone else here who pins quilts. You are COLD! Brrr!!! But sunny so no snow, right? Is your yard still white? Yes, I made that chaos at the Courthouse for Aut but I haven't seen it at her house in years. I'm guessing Aaron got it and a few other quilts when they divorced. Fair enough. I always liked Aaron. I just didn't like him being my daughter's husband.
VAL - wouldn't that be fun - all of us West Coasters getting together! It's 750 miles from here to there, just like for Jana. She and I can race!
JUDI - How is the cold this morning? Or maybe I should ask, how are YOU this morning. The cold is probably fine! Ham and butter beans sound kind of delicious to me. Someone else told me they were also having beans for supper. Now I've got a hankering for beans! Is today a sew day for you?
TINA B - sorry you have to travel so far for your water aerobics. It does take a chunk out of your day! We are very fortunate here - the Y is only 3 miles away and our medical insurance pays for our membership. Bill drives me in the morning to do my lap-walking, brings me home and then he goes back for his exercise class. I'm considering water aerobics after I get done with all this hip business.
FLO - have you put BABY through her paces yet to see how she is running? And have you tried those button holes? Back in high school I learned how to do bound buttonholes and I even still have my sample in my sewing basket. But I've never made them since.
LOIS - it doesn't seem to take very long to make your elf quilts. Are you sewing each one by one or are you assembly line sewing?
We'll be off to the Y shortly. I prefer to shower first because I hate dressing twice in one day. Plus - hair. I don't like going out in public with bed hair. Lulu was here yesterday so I kind of moved around the house to keep out of her way. So at one point I was "forced" to hang out in my sewing room, so I got a bit of a start on Dino#5. Today, hopefully I will finish him. Dino#6 will be same dino, but different fabrics (making them all colorful) so I haven't cut him out yet, though I do have his background pieces cut. Tonite we're going out to dinner with Doyle & Susie to celebrate her birthday. She needs spoiling. She lives in constant pain and is looking at more back surgery in a few weeks. We bought her a pretty top from her favorite store to go with pants she just got for Christmas.
I am making progress and managed to do quite a bit of hobbling around sans cane yesterday! Yay, me!
BTW, for any Lori Holt lovers, QIAD has a sale on some of her patterns today. I like her stuff, but my 2026 list is starting to expand faster than I'd like so I'm going to pass. But you all go ahead!
Prayers for Baby Enoch and his mama! Waiting to hear!

Re: Thursday January 15th
Good morning every one, are we one baby more Jana? She certainly must be here by now?
Today I hope to wrap up the binding on DGS quilt. Had to stop yesterday as my hand just didn't want to use that needle anymore. Also need to get going on the diaper bag. I did get the BR and all but one counter done in the kitchen yesterday so not going to worry about chores today.
Tony did go for his appointment yesterday. Good news and bad news from the pet scan. They did not see anything that looked like tumors, metastases and the spot on his liver is gone so who knows what that was. But the bad news is there are 25 (no typo) polyps in the colon. Most are around where the tumor was so those will need to be removed and biopsied. The PCP could not tell him how this may be accomplished but the two choices would be the normal colonoscopy or they may elect to go back in and surgically remove that part of his colon. The PCP thinks many of these may be cancerous and if they remove anymore colon the colostomy will not be able to be reversed. So next month he sees the surgeon and he will start with an oncologist soon too. If they are cancerous, he will likely need at least chemo.
Lori a friend of mine gets acupuncture and swears by it. I am not at all interested in trying it. I know people say the needles don't hurt but I can't understand how getting stuck with all those needles doesn't hurt.
Velda I cook certain things in my crockpot but not near what I used to. Many of the things I can no longer eat. Used to make Chili for dad a lot but it's off my list of allowed foods and I just don't want to tolerate the symptoms it causes.
Chriss grandparenting is so fun. I wish the great grands lived closer. It's not really that far to go but in the Winter it can be challenging. In the summer it's too far for just one day so that means hotel costs.
Tinab I have been looking for something in water aerobics around here but haven't found anything. Maybe because it's winter and as far as I know all the public pools are outside. I don't think the one or two remaining gyms here have indoor pools. Or pools at all for that matater.
DH has breakfast ready so I shall go. Have a great day everyone. I will check back later to get the baby news.

Good morning!
No little one yet. I expect in the next couple of hours. Aaron just sent out a text letting us know the progress. NICU was happy to get a second dose of steroid in little one., before he gets here. Little boy is keeping the nurses hopping, as every once in awhile, his stats dip, but come right back. Just like his father did as well. Only Aaron wasn't a preemie! I'll keep y'all posted.
So after breakfast, I'll be working on a baby quilt. If I get it pieced, it won't take Sarah long on my LA.
I've decided that Kate must be allergic to baby showers. Gracie was born the next day after her baby shower, five weeks early, Lila too, and now Enoch is doing the same! Little bugger! Kate's baby shower was scheduled for the 24th.
Thank you for ll the prayers, they are always heard!
Hugs,
Jana

VAL - thanks for the report on Tony. Amazing how we can get so involved in the care of someone we don't even know, but I do care. I pray the good news far outweighs the bad news. I wonder if they could remove the polyps via colonoscopy and then only do more surgery if they are cancerous. He must be so weary of medical stuff by now. As for acupuncture, I'm the only one I know who didn't really benefit from it. I know several folks who find it very effective. And I was of the same mind as you - how can those needles not hurt?? But they don't. Does your DD in Reno have room for you to park your RV? Or is there a Walmart or Casino nearby where you could overnight? It would save you hotel fees if you visit them. Actual RV parks are nearly as expensive now as hotels/motels.
JANA - thanks for the update. Glad your little "bugger" is hanging tight, though I wonder if Kate if feeling the same way. Funny about the baby showers! I think you may be right - that she is allergic to them!.

Prayers for Kate and Enoch.
The visit with the social worker was fine. I didn't have questions. I did tell her that I had stopped at the funeral home and spoke with them on Tuesday. Based on what they told me, I requested some things when that time comes. Hate even typing that, but I can't hide from the reality that will happen when God is ready. That conversation was away from where Garry was. Then we just visited and she told me if I needed anything to call. Very nice lady.
Praying for the other needs here. Time to get moving.

Re: Thursday January 15th
Good morning,,I was up early brousing the cooking sites I follow. looking for supper ideas. I decided on swedish meatballs and sauce over either noodles or mashed potatoes. I will cook up some causliflower and broccoli for me. or maybe brussel sprouts...( ken hates them but I dont). I got the meat prepped and will make the meatballs later today, A load of laundry in the washer and one in the dryer too.
We had 4 inches of snow between yesterday and this morning, it was 12 when I woke up. BRRRRRRR
My cold seems ( fingers crossed) to be a bit better today,,,so maybe its done with me. My nose is going to take a while to unredden itself.
I didnt go to the hockey game I decided to stay home and try the hot bath and hot toddy, the bath worked wonders and I fell asleep before I made the toddy, I slept 9 hours. so I feel well rested...there is always tonight for the toddy,,,( for medicinal purposes of course)
Val it is good to hear news on Tony, I still have him on my prayer list. along with all others that we pray for. Hoping baby Enoch stay put a little longer.. I never worked nicu, but know the long they stay put the better,
I did stitch up another block and have 3 more to go in this section...there are over 25 hand applique blocks to do.
I ordered new glasses but they havent called me to get them yet, its been over a week. but I dont want to go out today anyhow. My sewing vision ( close) will be a little stronger but far vision is still good.
Well the dryer is singing and I need to keep up with that, Prayers going out.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PS I hate baby showers,,,Just never have enjoyed the process...I understand and do attend when I have to. but when its the second third of r4th baby,,,I am done...I never had a baby shower with any of my children...I sewed baby clothes and got hand me downs from my family and friends... I watch my neice have 3 showers for one baby. given by her friends, her MIL, and her mother,,,,,I sent one gift and attended 0

Re: Thursday January 15th
Good Morning Girls
Not much in the way of sunshine around here today! Man I'm so ready for spring! I just want to open the windows!
Tinab.... a little cotton therapy always makes me feel better!
Maryz... I pin with larger safety pins! I checked out those little one on sale, I do love the curved ones but I need the big ones! OH yes, we still have snow and sounds like we will get more tomorrow. No worries, I have plenty of coffee and I just stocked up on TP. I love Lori Holt patterns... OH no I just paid off my credit cards! Happy Birthday to Susie!
Valerie... Thanks for the update on Tony. Will you have to go back to Vegas to check on him when he sees the surgeon? Do your schools having swimming pools? Up here, our Middle School has a pool and has open swims and water aerobics. But I don't wear a swim suit in public--heck I don't think I even own one.
Jana.... Lots of prayers for Little Enoch this morning! May God watch over that little boy and give him safe passage into the world!!
Lyn.... Prayers continue for Garry. You are in a very tough place right now and my heart goes out to you. Since you know what Garry wants, that has to be a huge help in planning and taking care of the details. And because we believe as we do, we do not fear death.
Judi.... Seems to be a pretty normal thing, that near vision getting worse. I'm now up to 2.75 readers! Did you have the drops to reverse the dilation when you went for your exam? What did you think? I'm not sure I thought it was worth the extra cost--insurance didn't cover. I go in on the 29th for my check up.
Lori.. Hope you slept better last night! I wonder what that's like to sleep 7-8 straight without waking up 4-5 times to go potty!
Chriss... Next time you buy a coffee, check out the ones with a 4 hour warming plate!! Oh my gosh, I can drink hot coffee all morning! My pot turns on at 7:45 and off at 11:45! Glad you had a great day with Elliott!
Sheets are in the washer and I just heard the little song that says they are done and ready for the dryer. Man I hate changing sheets! I need a Lulu that will just come wash my floors and put clean sheets on the bed!! I did manage to get the one little quilt- quilted yesterday and will finish sewing the binding on tonight.
Please send some prayers for Minnesota today. We are about to explode.

Re: Thursday January 15th
Good morning. What a wonderful day it is going to be today. The sun is out, the sky is blue and we should be in the mid 60's all week.
It finally happened. After 35 years and after a couple of months of trying this and trying that, my furnace has died. A new one will arrive on the 28th. In the meantime, I have two space heaters. and three (one flannel) quilts on the bed along with flannel sheets. And I am extremely grateful to live indoors. And, as an added bonus, my son told me that when you are cold your body burns fat to try to keep warm. Not sure of the rate in which it burns, but some is better than none. There is always a bright side.
Today the parents will be here. Dad will be working on windowsills and installing the shelf for my microwave. I am going to take Judy to get her hair done then we will stop at the grocery store. I only need three things, but might end up with more. Dad and Moose will hold down the fort while we are doing girly things.
I do need to do the dishes and put away my totes of fabric before they get here. I have been trying to sort fabric, and have been mildly successful. Long way to go yet.
Lyn, mmmm, ham. I bought some ham slices at the deli, I have some rotisserie chicken and will make chicken cordon blue. And just like that my three thing grocery list went to five things. I also checked with funeral homes when Jerry was in a board and care and on Hospice. I felt like you do, but, like you said, it is also reality and when the time does come, you won't have that decision to make. You will be able to focus on other things that need doing. I'm glad you like your Hospice people. It's not a job I could do but I am grateful for those who do it.
Lori, glad the paint party was a success. It sounds like fun. They have paint parties here but the picture isn't usually something I want to paint. A cow, or a huge sunflower in bright hang in the garage colors. I'm also glad to get more Elliott time, I guess they realized he isn't as fragile as he used to be.
Tina, I'm also thankful I don't get snow. It has snowed here but it, thankfully, isn't a yearly thing.
Maryz, you are making great progress on those laps, I bet a 5k is in your future. Hoping the hips fix the back, that would be wonderful. My windows will be the same size as the ones I have now. the three lower ones need to be tempered glass so I don't fall through them. I think the window in the bath over the tub is tempered too but it won't be privacy glass like it is now. All windows will be clear. After they are installed I will figure out curtains or blinds or something.
Valerie, in the summer they have senior swim at the county pool. Seniors only. but it's a 20 minute drive and I don't own a swimsuit. There was a time I was going to Planet Fitness but it was a 30 minute drive and I just canceled it. Wow, Tony got quite a diagnosis. Hope he is fixable. Travel costs can add up when being a grandma, For me about a half tank of gas, a toy and my son feeds me lunch. Any chance either you or the grands will move and be closer to eachother?
Jana, ugh, nail biting seems to be the plan for the day. I say you start giving post instead of pre baby showers. I think Enoch knows that it's colder outside than inside, hoping he stays as long as possible.
Judi, I also like brussel sprouts. Grandma's hot toddy's were usually whiskey and water, and were had every night, but she lived a long life and was quite healthy, glad you got some real sleep. Oh, and I'm not washing the existing windows in my house but promise to keep up with washing the new ones. I haven't been to a baby shower in years. My kids had a wish list on Amazon but no shower, it workd perfectly for me.
Maryq, my old, and dead, coffee maker had a 4 hour shut off, it was wonderful. I often nuke my coffee to warm it and keep turning the coffee maker back on. silly process. My new washer doesn't chime when it's done. and the dryer barely chimes. But I love them. I could also use a Lulu. guess we need to get MZ to not be so stingy and start sharing.
Well, I guess I have to move my body. I'd like some oatmeal for breakfast but am not that hungry. Dinner will definitely be the salisbury steak that I didn't have last night. Or, perhaps taco's. I bought some low carb tortilla's, they need a try.
Have a super day,
Chriss

Re: Thursday January 15th
Chriss, bummer about the furnace. It had a good run. Glad they figured out Elliott wasn't fragile. Just wait about a year and a half when he really becomes an all out little boy. They are in for a rude awakening. Boys are crazy. Jumping off things and such. The paint party was at my house, so I had many different things to paint. I picked things I knew they would like. We all did different pictures. So I just need to be cold to burn more calories? huh
Maryq, I was sleeping 6 1/2 hours straight before this happened. I think that's my normal sleep time. I don't mind changing sheets, but tucking in with the bad shoulder is difficult. I considering getting a Lulu.
Judi, I love Brussel sprouts. I don't have them often enough though. You are moving right along on your JA quilt. Can't wait to see it finished.
Lyn, so sorry you are going though this. Glad you got a nice case worker.
Valerie, thanks for the update. Sounds like he's doing okay by himself. Will you have to go out there again if he has surgery? Acupuncture is on this list if nothing else helps.
Maryz, you're funny. You can't sit still for 30 minutes? No wonder you get so much done in a day. Bummer about your friend Susie. Bill has constant pain in his back, but he won't do surgery unless he can't stand or walk. It takes him a bit to stand up straight, be he still can. He does exercises for strength and walks daily.
Tinab, when the temp drops that fast it's hard to adjust. Enjoy your cotton therapy.
So the 3 friends that came over yesterday to paint are all quilting buddies as well. It was fun to do something different. I saw my primary care and she referred me to ortho. I called to make an appointment and they had one available this afternoon. So I'm doing the happy dance hoping I can get some relief soon. She did prescribe a muscle relaxer to help when I sleep. I only got 4 hours of sleep in 2 hours increments. I'm going to sew on my twisty pattern for a bit since the house is clean. It's a beautiful 83* already. We have a few more days of nice weather, then back to normal again.
Have a wonderful day.
