THURSDAY, January 1st, 2026 Happy New Year!!

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Jan 01, 2026 5:10 am

Good morning and Happy New Year!

TINA did you make it to midnight? And all your crew?

CAROL I liked When Harry Met Sally, though it's been decades since I watched it. I don't know what the other movie is about. We also have quite a DVD library, a DVD player, but DH is starting to stream shows. But me? If he dies I will probably never be able to watch TV again.

CHRISS - so nice to start your New Year with a clean house and a plan for getting back in the groove. I think it's harder for heart surgery people than hip surgery people. But we'll both get back on track soon! I'm glad you like your W/D. I hope you got a good set!

LORI - I hope you had a better night last night. I finally got a little bit of sleep between 1 and 3 this morning. First nighttime sleep I've had since Sunday. I also have tried heat, ice, Tylenol PM, Gabapentin, IBU, and Tizanadine. Does your shoulder pain get worse at night? Does it inhibit your arm Range of motion?

DIANE - happy birthday to your son! My oldest will be 54 in a few weeks. I'm with you - where have all those years gone??

JANA - that Fabrage Egg story about both you and Crenda getting eggs is funny! That story will be one you tell over and over again!

MARY Q - emptying your closet gives me a visual of Fibber McGee and Molly's closet! lol! So you've emptied one closet of all those pre cuts and blocks and filled another with "kits"? So your water isn't HOT HOt when you wash clothes? What is your water heater set at? I think ours is about 130*. And the hot water heater is about 8" from the washer.

LYN - old appliances used to last for decades. But newer ones, if you get 7 years you are lucky. Houses built in recent years - all the appliances went in at the same time. Makes sense that they would all start to fail about the same time. You had a very busy day a few days ago. I do hope life settles down for you soon and you can concentrate just on Garry. Did Minnie go visit yesterday?

FLO - buttonholes! I avoid them when I can. I thought the buttons on your dress were more decorative than functional and you wouldn't really need buttonholes.

JUDI - did you stay awake until midnight? And did you get the QOV loaded? You'll have that baby quilted in a snap!

Our nurses BD/Christmas party was fun. A "new" person joined us - also a long time co-worker and she fit right in, was fun and funny. I hope she comes back - we'll party again in March or April. But after no sleep for several nights I wasn't so much fun. By the time D&S came over at 4pmI was done in. Very tired and slightly nauseated. We visited, had supper, and when we went to play cards, I kind of hit the wall. They could see that and decided to leave earlier than planned. A felt badly but was relieved. I was in bed by 7:30.

No sewing yesterday but hope to get to it today and finish up my CW and maybe sew a dinosaur. LuLu is coming today and I have a massage appt at 11:00. So things will be happening. I have no clue about supper. I think I'll wait and let Bill surprise me. Today is my niece, Carmen's birthday. I will need to send her a text. Five of my parents' 20 grandchildren were born in January, my Autumn being one of them. Going to be a busy texting month!

Happy New Year to everyone!

Happy New Year!

I slept through all the fun. Well, we did have a few fireworks go off somewhere in the neighborhood but it has been raining so guess that kept many indoors. It was a quiet night in Vallejo.

I just did 3 days of Open Sew. I only have to add the bottom portion of new baby's quilt and then it can go to the quilters. My long armer did a rush job in DGS quilt so it is quilted, trimmed and ready for the binding. I have most of what I need for the diaper bag. My friend took home the rest of the Owl fabric and she is going to put together a small quilt for the baby. Then baby and Mom can have matching quilts. I have also started putting the sashing on the Gem Tones quilt. So I am making progress.

Tinab I wonder what is making your feel scared? Has something happened? I sense you are a strong woman but sending prayers for strength and endurance.

Carol we still have a DVD player too. It's a good way to watch the movies you want to watch! I frequently have a hard time finding something on TV.

Chriss glad you like your new machine. I debate all the time whether I should get a new one or not. The old one (about 23 yrs old) still works but tends to be a bit loud. I do have a maintenance agreement so I can get it fix for $100 (I have done that more than once!)

Maryz so Happy you made it through those CW. They are time consuming. I wonder if my friend ever finished hers. She was working on it at slow stitch but then had a heart attack with open heart surgery. I really haven't seem her since.

Maryq I hope you can get through those totes of fabric sometime before say 2050! It will take that long if you don't buy anything else. That is the operative statement! And I have a hard time, NOT buying anything else.

Lori the last two nights I have slept decently. Never sleep through though till morning. May one day. I also take stuff to help me sleep.

Lyn how is Garry and Minnie getting along? I am continuing to think about you all and sending prayers for peace and comfort.

I am off, I am hungry and DH is home today so maybe I can get something done. I will try to convince him all the stores are closed!

Have a blessed day everyone! Bliadhna Mhath Ùr !

Good morning everyone! Hope you are doing fine!

Wishing you all an "Happy New Year"! All the best!

I am doing fine. It will be quiet here today. It is snowy. Where I live, they have kind of a coffee meeting every afternoon. I will go and join the fun.

Presently, I am working on a table runner. The pattern is called "A Pack of Posies" from Vicki Bellino. The pattern is in her book Bloom Creek Quilts. There are 4 appliqué blocks. I am hand stitching the appliqués, slowly but surely.

Wishing you a wonderful day! Love & hugs

Good Morning I am late to the party. I actually slept til 7 and got up and putzed around made panckes and sausage for breakfast. Its not diet day til monday, ( i made up that rule) It wil be monday before I can get more healthy food in the house.
We had more snow yesterday and it was pretty but the roads were bad for a while. I didnt hear from all my kids or family. I fell asleep just before 10. I really tried to stay up later but couldnt,
I sorted out the bins and have them out of storage, Ken said to wait till tomorrow to put way,,,( he knows if I start more today it will somehow involve him and he hates doing the put away,) I will do some of it but try not to involve him. I have filled 2 boxes to go to the goodwill or where ever and I even cleaned out the kitchen shelf in the basement and got rid of kitchen stuff I will never use, ( a deep fryer we havent used in 5 yrs) there will be more Christmas stuff to go. If I havent put it out in a couple of years and it doesnt have sentimental value I think it will go.
I did get the QOV loaded and more Jane blocks ready to sew the applique pieces. so it might be all that gets done..
I hope you are all having a good New Years day, Arent we supposed to eat black eyed peas today for good luck..I hate black eyed peas so is there something else I can eat besides them...???

Happy New Year Everyone 🎉

Judi, I hope someone has a suggestion, because I'm with you, no black eyed peas.

Denise, It is soo good to see you post. I hope you will post a photo when you have the table runner done. Are there lots of activities where you are living?

Yes, Minnie went with me yesterday. It was cool out and I parked the Jeep in the shade. She stayed in the Jeep while I fed Garry lunch. He must not have eaten much for breakfast, because he ate everything for lunch. Just as he finished, the Hospice aid came looking for him. She took him back to his room for a bed bath. I went out and checked on Minnie. I went back in and visited with the aid as she finished. Then we walked out and I got Minnie. The aid thought Minnie was cute. I took her in and set her on Garry in bed. The little quilt a church group made was on top of another blanket, she did snoop around a little. I think something was spilled on it. I got her to hold still and put Garry's hand on her back, he petted her a few times. But then Minnie wanted off. I pulled a chair next to the bed and she laid in my lap. We watched the end of a Wagon Train movie, but Garry mostly slept. I don't know that I will take Minnie again. I don't want to traumatize her.

Time to hit the shower and get over to see Garry. I hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning!

Well, fell asleep around 11:30, but was rudely woke up by all the fireworks! They were noisy, but not quite as bad as in July. Firework restrictions are back in place now, until July.

I have 2 DVD players and even a working VHS tape player. Not a lot of old movies, but tons of old TV shows that we like. MASH, Perry Mason, Magnum PI, WKRP, and tons more. Then plenty of trains! I have one grand, who loves trains, nope not the boys, it's Karlie! She's the biggest train fan of all of them!

Plugging along on blankets. My hand isn't so achy today. We have storms coming today. It's anybody's guess, rain or snow.

We'll go up to Sarah's forcake and ice cream with Ethan. He starts all our January birthdays. 4 and hopefully not 5. Enoch is still staying put, for the time being.

Happy New Year! May this year be a great and wonderful one for you!

Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning All

🎇🎇🎇🎇HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Do any of remember, when oh much younger, figuring out how old you would be at the turn of the century?. To the year 2000? I remember calculating that I would be so old---all of 49!!! NOW here it is 2026 and I wonder how I got here so fast!!

Maryz.... OH that closet isn't EMPTY!! It's just rearranged! I'll have to send you a new picture! My hot water heater is set pretty high, I like to have HOT water when I do dishes and run the dishwasher. I think it's an "environmental" thing that the washer doesn't let you wash in straight HOT water--it adds a little cold. Since the laundry tub is right next to the washer, I've been known to add hot water from the faucet into the washing machine. Man, I sure hope you can get some better nights of sleep. Might be something to discuss with MD? Some other options available? I'm a firm believer that sleep helps heal, and if that is the case,... you need the sleep to heal up!!! Good old fashioned REM sleep!!! Is it pain that wakes you?

Tinab... Oh what fun... to have little sleep over night under your tree! Little elves!!! All my littles are now "Bigs" and wouldn't fit under my tree!!

Valerie.... I think I heard a few fireworks around here last night too, but when the temp is below zero, whoever was setting them off, sure didn't want to stand outside and light very many! I better get through those totes before 2050-- I'll be 99 years old if I make it that long. Your Pirouette quilt is gorgeous! So glad you posted it, the batiks are what make it I think. I do have matching charm pack and strips, but I'm reconsidering that idea and going out to my garage and seeing if I can pull it off with the batik pieces I have on hand.

Denise.... OH how wonderful to see you pop in!! I hope you can come back often. Are you living in facility that you have lots of friends around. How fun to go for coffee in the afternoon! Glad to hear you are still sewing!!

Judi... I love your rule --let's start Monday!! I'm trying finish up some left overs--like cranberry bread and pies! When I packed up Christmas, I put all the donating stuff in one tote box, with a big sign on it! And noted on my calendar to have Brennen come and get it down in August--before he goes back to college, then I'll take it to a donation place as I'm sure no thrift store wants Christmas stuff now!

Lyn, I wonder if Minnie is kind of confused seeing Garry at the Nursing home. Does she walk around the house kind of looking for him? Is Garry ambulatory? My heart sure goes out to you in these days.

Jana.... So what was your first great meal with your new teeth? Good news that Enoch is still tucked inside where it's nice and warm. At this point, every day counts!

Chriss... So how late did you stay up?

Got together to play card with Katie, Gary and Peggy last night! Most of time I've stayed tucked inside my warm house on NYE, but it was fun to connect with neighbors and share stories. Gary has a bit of dementia so he is very "imaginative" with his stories. He will tell a story and Peggy will be behind him shaking her head "No, that never happened" But I was home by 11, was probably still awake at midnight, but in bed. Didn't sleep all that great during the night, so a nap might be in order. Plans for today include finishing up the organizing project I started. The kids came over yesterday and moved somethings around in the garage and set up my table for me so I can easily sort through stuff.

For now I better get to work.. I'd so loved to have messes all cleaned up so I can start sewing first thing tomorrow!

Wishing you all a delightful, relaxing day! With prayers for all of us, that in 2026 there be more joys than sorrows, more laughter than tears, and more love!

Good morning. The flood in the pasture across the street has taken hold. It started raining yesterday evening and as far as I can tell has rained all night. I am so grateful that I live on a hill and don't need sandbags.

Today I have no plans. Still learning about my washer and dryer. It appears that I don't have to set a water level (load size) the machine senses and uses only the water needed. And the dryer senses when the clothes are dry and chimes when it's done. I did find a skinnier garbage can to fit in the space between the wall and washer.

I signed up for a class with my quilt group, I need to get some high loft batting. If I can't find it at HL or WM I will need to travel further. We are making an ottoman. One lady is buying some of our supplies in bulk to save money and another is selling the pattern and teaching. This will cost more than I thought but it won't be crazy expensive. And it will get me out and hopefully back into sewing.

Carol, seems when I see the list of movies people binge on New Years day Harry met Sally is at the top of the list. Hope you enjoy movie watching and have some popcorn to go with. I also have a DVD player and a VCR. Neither are hooked up but are ready to be hooked up if needed. I really don't think I have tapes or dvd's to go in them but I have the machines.

Maryz. I feel really good since my surgery. No aches or pains. I do feel my heart beating once in a while, and I know that things aren't completely healed, but I feel completely healed. I wonder if a different pillow situation would help you sleep.

Tina, I've probably asked but what is the age range of your little people. sounds like a great night and a fun day in the works.

Valerie, I also slept right through the page turning of the calendar. There were two big booms here, sounded like big fireworks. After the second one I texted my neighbor and asked him if he heard it. He gave me a story about fireworks and rain and green grass, so no threat of fire he said. Unless something landed in the wrong spot I thought. But after my text I didn't hear another boom. Either he quit or whoever had the fireworks only had two. I am glad to have new machines. I don't wash like I used to. No real dirty clothes, it's just me. It should live a long life. I'm hungry too. Not quite sure what I want. Still trying to stick to low carb. There are 15 pounds (it was 10 before the holiday) that need to leave.

Flo, it's not cold here but it certainly isn't sunny. Enjoy getting to be outside.

Denise, it's so good to see you. What fun to have a coffee get together. If your table topper is the one I saw when I googled it, it will be very nice.

Judi, Monday is a great day to get started. It sounds like you will have a truck load for Goodwill. It feels so good to get rid of the excess. I'm not sure that I have ever had black eyed peas. I was thinking a pot of chili would be a warm cozy meal, especially if it was over hot dogs with some onion and cheese. There is a recipe called Buter Bob's Famous Chili that is low carb but I add a can of kidney beans so that adds carbs.

Lyn, Minnie probably isn't liking the "new place" it's unfamiliar, new smells and people. Glad Garry had an appetite.

Jana, hoping that Enoch stays put. Enjoy cake and Ethan today. I wouldn't mind some carrot cake. Yesterday at the grocery store I walked by the cakes twice and didn't buy any.

Maryq, it was just another night for me. I like to be up by 6am and almost always go to bed at 11pm, after the 10:00 news. Yep, I'm that exciting. Cards and stories sound fun. I think it's just wonderful that you tell your kids what you need and they help make it happen. You are set up in the garage and can work inside, you mentioned it and they did it. My son lives pretty far away for that, you are quite blessed.

Lori, hoping that you are still sleeping, would a wedge pillow help?

Dinner tonight will be taco salad, I need to use up avocado's, black beans and other stuff in the fridge. Or maybe it will be nacho's. Same ingredients but pork rinds instead of lettuce. I was able to talk myself out of going to the Mecxican grocery store and picking up freshly made tortilla chips.

Hope everyone has a blessed year,
Chriss
