Saturday December 20th
Very early good Saturday morning. Actually I am signing in now it’s Saturday to just check in and then will go to bed. Friday started too cold to go out for swimming. Later in morning , I went and bought fabric at HL while DH got grandson home from high school. Did errands then baked cookies. One batch ice box, double batch snowball, and pinwheels. Half batch springerle. Later today will bake up springerle then wash down kitchen and floor. Then I will begin to sew my bowl cozies for the grands. I have a couple of days to work on cozies. So happy MaryZ getting along as well as others mentioned. Prayers to all mentioned in posts.
Have a great Saturday.
Blessings

Re: Saturday December 20th
Good morning tina and everyone
I have been up early I'm trying to cut my be an elf quilt for next year so I can get a jump on next year.
The problem is my foot is acting up so I cut a little and sit down I'm not even giving a thought will try later.
Bill is coming along he has a follow up on Monday so we shall see I don't like Drs offices around this time of year.
Tina I tried the snowball cookies they have a number of different names that they go by but are delicious.
Also made gingerbread cookies for the first time and they came out wonderful.
Mary z so glad your making good progress.
Well that's all the news from here.
Everyone stay warm and enjoy your day.
Prayers go out to all.
Lois

Re: Saturday December 20th
Good morning,
41* here this morning. Bill & Scottie report that it's just spitting rain right now.
TINA - that is a lot of cookies - and I'd like to get in line to get my share - and a few other peoples' share, too! You have some of my favorites in there!
LOIS - good news that your DH is getting better. Pneumonia can be tough! I had it in 1977 - for 3 months! Mine was viral so abx did no good. I've never been so sick. What quilt are you cutting out? I love those snowball cookies. That's what we've always called them but my mom's recipe says "Walnut puffs". I've also seen them called Russian Tea Cakes and Mexican Wedding cakes. whatever the name, they are one of my favorites - and my son's all time favorite.
JANA - Hope the storms aren't causing havoc in your life. So, out of idle curiosity - how many gallons of milk do you buy at one time, as a rule? I know Costco sells them by two gallon packs. Did you ever make it down to your lonely batt cave yesterday?
CHRISS - I wouldn't say I 'mastered my stairs'. I drag myself up with the bannister in one hand and Bill holding me up with the other. And I was exhausted by the time I got to the top! Hopefully today will be easier. Waiting for the day I can do it by mysef! The spirit of White Elephant gifts is the most fun! They are meant to be silly, useless, and get a laugh. Thrift shops are great places to look for things like that, I'm just waiting for the next white elephant I go to: I have a statue of a white elephant! And all dressed up in his finest outfit, ready for the elephant parade! Found it in a thrift shop a few years ago.
MQ - did you ever get out to do your shopping yesterday? And how did your little post craft bazaar gathering at your neighbor's turn out? Did you sell any more stuff?
JUDI - I'm so glad you are loving your new skill! This quilt will be a labor of love - and give you a fun, interesting hand project for the year(s?) to come!
My appt yesterday went well. Bandages are off, wound healing nicely. No sutures to be removed - they glued the incision shut. Just continue doing what I'm doing. I'm planning to give a cane a try today. I'd love to shed the walker. So cumbersome! So fingers crossed! I finished the last few sections of my CW - now to lay it out and clip them together. I'll sew the white flappy things by machine (I shared photos of this process a few months ago), then add windows on top of the seams - more hand stitching. But I'm coming down the home stretch! And the good news, I can now get upstairs and into my sewing room to do this!! And my friend, Carol, was going to visit yesterday, but after two dr appts and a long errand, I was pooped when we finally got home. I waved her off until this weekend. Maybe today. It will be good to see her.
My brother had his procedure - bronchoscopy-e-BUS yesterday afternoon. I assume it was under sedation and not full anesthesia but I'm not sure. And it's a high tech bronch where they can test for so many different things. They are driving back to FBX today - another snowy 450 miles. He will see his regular doctor on Wed for results of whatever they find. My niece wishes - and my sisters and I agree with her - that they'd wait until after Christmas for that appt. Unless of course, it's good news.
Bill & I are discussing supper for tonite. While I'm upstairs today we are going to work together to inventory the fridge/freezer/pantry and plan some meals. Bill is still the main chef on deck, but he needs a little guidance as most of my prepared meals are gone now. It will be so good to be upstairs doing normal upstairs things!
I've talked to Chickie and, remember they had the fire that burned their big garage and nearly caught their house on fire, too? Well, the demolition has been done and they will soon begin to rebuild. Also, she had a new great-grand-baby this week! A boy! That makes 14 or 15 in last 5 yrs. And a beautiful new grand kitty, too! So good things are happening for her. I also talked to Tina. She and Frankie have both been very sick for over a week with respiratory/fatigue. When not sick, she is still doing Uber deliveries. Not much sewing going on for her these days.
It's the last weekend before Christmas. Are we all ready? If I'm not, at least I have a good excuse!
Enjoy your day!

Good Morning it is cold here and snowy. We were at 50 just 2 days ago. and next week we will be 50s again...Im not sure what is going on but they are saying this is not good for the farmers who have planted cold weather crops/// Sun is coming through the window this morning I was up getting some things done but Ken is still sleeping after knocking his cpap off the night stand and waking the whole town not to mention the cuss words I am hoping it isnt broke...It will be hard to get it replaced this week...Im not poking the bear right now...
I am likimg the hand work of applique, It is the interfacing method. I tried needle turn and I stink at it even after doing a small lap quilt a few years a go. this method is so much more forgiving,,,and while mine is still learning the tiny stitches I am liking the look.
I know i am crazy but i do have to go to the store today,,,I still need a few things for the EVE feast that I couldnt buy ahead of time...like the fresh fruit for a fruit salad. I will get that today, and a couple of other things,,All the gifts are wrapped and will go under the tree. I love being ready and hope all are preparing for the day. Still a few days to go...and it goes by so quilckly...then done for another year,,,Next year i will do thanksgining again its been 2 years since i missed last year and it was our off year this year,,, I am praying for all those who are not celbrating this year there are so many to list...love and prayers,,,XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: Saturday December 20th
Good morning, site was slow for me yesterday AM so went about my business and then forgot to try again later! Old age is wonderful, isn't it.
Maryz I am currently working on DGS quilt. I have the last 3 blocks to make (they are easy) sew the rows together, borders and then to the long arm. It is 88" square so hand binding will take a bit of time. It is the Pirouette quilt from Charming Jelly Roll Quilts book. There are 8 patterns in the book and most of them look pretty easy. There is an accompanying mini quilt for each pattern. Book is only $9.99 so not bad. I am doing open sew both days this weekend so hoping I can get it done by end of day Sunday. Before I leave I will cut the next block for the Plum Fusion quilt. I got my Go Cube quilt back from the long armer so will post a picture of it. The mini one the shop owner made is posted next to it. Same quilt, different block sizes.
Next I will focus on baby quilt and diaper bag for DGD in SD while simultaneously doing a block for Plum Fusion here and there. I also have 2 quilts that need sashing and borders. One of those I have fabrics for. The 2nd one, Susan who works at the shop will help me pick out today.
Lois we are told to expect 6 - 12 inches of rain this week starting around noon today. If I am right, that is probably a bit exaggerated but we will see. We are under flood watch for now. It has never flooded at my house but my back yard may get a few inches deep.
Jana I was trying to come up with a gift for you, so I sent the storm! I would like you to have a white Christmas. I don't do well without milk either. I should have had you pick me up some too.
Chriss gotta love those grandmas! My Dad used to use Glenfiddich for teething pain! He'd be prosecuted these days for that.
Maryq love the new kitchen. Looks like they did a great job. It seems brighter in there.
Lori seems as though the ortho problems are hitting you hard. I made an appointment with my Doctor for Monday to see about my left hip. It only takes a few minutes of being on it and it begins to hurt. On it consistently for 30 min (maybe less) and it's really painful. I can't exercise at all. Walk back and forth to the ironing board which is not right next to my machine by design is about all I get in. Any more than that and I just can't do it.
Well I gotta get, I am going to set up gifts for DH to wrap when he gets home. I have to put the name on them all. He was with me when we bought them but he won't remember. I also have some gifts to get ready for my friends at the shop. I may do that tomorrow. Shower, dress and eat.
So have a great day. Be careful out there, last weekend for shopping. People may not be nice.

DIANE - if you can take a picture of your quilt with your cell phone and text it to me, I can post your photo for you.
VAL - uh oh - sounds like I may be having company in the new hip club? Have to say - it ain't fun, but so worth it to have that arthritis pain completely GONE! Dr told me he'll be seeing me again in a year or two for the next hip. I'm game! You are so organized with all you have to do!
JUDI - Happy Eve Prep! Good luck at the stores today!
gotta go. Shower time.

Re: Saturday December 20th
Good morning!
Well, it's supposed to morning, it's still dark outside. And a bit rainy too. In a few minutes, I'm making a quick grocery run, the easy way, drive up, open the hatch and they load my groceries. Used the store's online shopping service. Easy for things I'm not fussy over.
Last night, late, nearly bedtime, Matt and family showed up. They were following a map showing the best Christmas lighr displays in Utah. They needed a drink and cookie. Emma saw I had saved some ornaments for her. She opened the box and found my missing mini stockings I made! These stockings along with my mantel garland have been AWOL. Garland can be easily replaced, but those Art to Heart stockings were a lot of work! I think I know where the display tree is, hope so.
I buy 2 gallons of milk at a time these days. They last about 2 weeks. I buy the farthest out expiration date I can find, usually at Costco. When we had kids, back in my younger days, we'd go get 4 gallons of milk, on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday. And even then we'd run out! 2 adults and 4 kids. Teenager boys , I needed a cow in the back yard!
Just for your information, today is Santa's birthday. Yup, he was born December 20th and went by the name of Tommy, the rest of the year. It's my brother's birthday, Tommy, who loved Christmas more than I do. He's Sandee's dad. I'm much younger than my brother and he spoiled me at Christmas. He also dressed as Santa and did many Ward Christmas parties too. Once my niece, who was about 3, had a special visit at her house to meet Santa. She wasn't impressed and announced, that's not Santa, that's my Uncle Tommy! Santa, aka, Tommy, didn't have a sleigh, he drove a 64 Pontiac GTO! That's another story. We miss Tommy.
Time to get dressed and zip on down to the store,
Hugs and prayers,
Jana

Re: Saturday December 20th
Good morning Girls
Oooppss Kind of over slept this morning and I'm still in my jammies! It's a sunny day, but sounds like it's a bit windy outside!
Tinab.... My goodness you have been busy in the kitchen! My neighbor makes bowl cozies all the time and sells them at craft fairs. Easy enough to make, but not my thing! Have you ever made "Potato bags"? For cooking a baked potato in the micro? They sure make great potatoes!!
Lois....Sorry your foot is bothering you again! Man, one of those gingerbread cookies would be so good dunked in my coffee this morning! Oh but wait, I have cranberry bread I could have with my coffee!! Made 5 loaves the other day... might make a few more for the freezer!
Maryz... I made it to Peggy's for coffee, the Post Office to send package to Jen and to Walgreens for an Rx. That's as far as I went---oh and one more stop at the Dollar Tree. I got a lot of little stuff for the grand kids and the bags I bought weren't big enough so went back for bigger ones. The little open house at Katies was kind of fun, met some new neighbors and got to see a few more I don't see often. Margie, who used to work for us at our drugstore, lives at the opposite end of the development, she's the one who told me about my place coming up for sale. She came and it was good to see her out, after she broke her hip! I sold a couple things, but I didn't care at all... I'd rather give the stuff away! SO glad to hear are getting up the steps, that opens up a whole new world for you!
Judi.... When I was a kid and complained about all the snow.... my Dad would tell to not complain because the farmers need the snow. I'm not how many winter crops are planted around here, but come spring, if we don't get enough snow, then spring rain, farmers get drought conditions--and that's not good either. You're doing the interfacing method of applique? I don't think I've ever tried that, but it will be beautiful and the "puffy" look will kind of make your quilt more dimensional!
Val... .Love the GO Cube quilt, in batiks right? Such pretty colors together. I do love my new kitchen, but I'd love it even more if somebody else would come and clean it for me this morning!
Since I did a little baking etc the other, there seems to be little spots of flour dust on the floor!
Diane,... If you go under the PHOTO topic, you might have to scroll down a bit, there are instructions by Velda from a long time ago that tell you how to do it. But you do have to go to
POSTIMAGES.ORG and kind of get set up there first. But don't hesitate to reach out to Maryz and me--we'd be glad to help.
Jana.... MANY years ago, when my 3 were in their early teens, we had a milk man!!! Man was that wonderful. He was well know around town so we could trust him to come in our house, put the milk in the fridge, leave a bill on the fridge and the next week I'd leave him a check. It was so wonderful to not have to haul heavy cartons in the house!! I've done the order on line groceries a couple times, it's kind of handy, especially on super cold days.
Chriss.... You are toasty warm now? Isn't it amazing what you can get at Amazon? When they re did my kitchen, they needed a tiny little part for my faucet that had broken... Amazon to the rescue. Are you traveling to Richard's or they come to you?
OMG almost 10:30 I better get in gear.. I really have to wash floor today!! The sooner I get done with chores the sooner I can play in sewing room!!
Wishing you all a SUPER Saturd
