TUESDAY, December 9th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Dec 09, 2025 5:23 am

Good morning,

I'm still here! Don't have to be at the hospital until noon so I have some to spend with my "peeps". Thank you all for your prayers, supportive thoughts, and texts. They are appreciated more than you can know!

LORI - Your hand painted Christmas cards are going to be lovely! I love water colors and I can't wait to see your work - or at least a picture of your work! Our SIL had a shoulder issue for no good reason while they were living in D.C. (last 6 years) and I think they gave him cortisone shot(s) and PT. I will ask him to tell us about it again.

LYN - do you know all the meds Garry is on? And the side effects? and the times he receives his meds? I was wondering if, when you visited him and he was so sleepy, if he was on meds of some kind. Like when they did the first swallow test. I thank you for the good wishes and prayers you've sent me, even while you're dealing with a much larger issue. More prayers coming YOUR way now!

CHRISS - I agree with you - a pink Christmas tree is the purrfect landing spot for a shimmery blue dinosaur! lol! I like what your town does, bringing gifts and household items to that vacant lot. 55 businesses in our town have Giving Trees, including our little LQS, Sew Hip. All the gifts are gathered at the "Y" for distribution, plus our Food Bank partners with the Fire Dept every year for a toy drive. I was the associate person-in-charge of that toy drive for 12 years. It was great fun and so satisfying to be involved in such a thing, and a wonderful side effect - I could count on losing at least 5 pounds every Dec instead of gaining them!

LOIS - I'm sure Bill loved his backpack. My Bill has one, and uses it whenever we go any place where we'll be walking and carrying 'stuff'. Did you bake your cookies? Do you make cookie platters to deliver to neighbors and friends? None of our friends eat sweets much - not even Lee & Lara. I started to get out some cookie baking supplies and Bill asked me not to - because he can't resist them and would eat 3 dozen in 2 days.

MARY Q - All those bows must make for a beautiful waterfall of color as they tumble out of that big bag! I have a small half-size tote not quite full of mostly package bows and nice wire ones. I salvage what I can every year. I haven't bought bows in years! Maybe after you weed out your decorations, will they fit in your garage instead of the attic so you can get them when you want? That is a great story about your Aunt Ida. One of my mom's cousins, who became Sr. Agnes, came from one of the orphan trains that circulated through the country in the early part of the last century.

JANA - so is the decorating all done now? Except for the new white tree coming tomorrow? Your house must look like a Christmas Wonderland! How is Mr G doing/feeling? Nice to take cookies to your neighbors. And do you stand outside their house and sing carols when dropping off the cookies?? :D

JUDI - All your food sounds delicious! And no one has to wonder who might be eating your cookies! Bake them and they will come! I will ask what meds I'll be getting but I doubt I'll remember them! I did ask when I got my call early yesterday morning, but she said dr will decide when he/she meets me today. Just how much applique is in your JA? I liked doing hand applique. It was a nice, longer term, calming activity that I did in the evenings, or in the car, in waiting rooms. But you might want to give it a try before committing yourself to the entire quilt. I know one year my Secret Santa (who turned out to be Cindy!) sent me a teaser - it was a clamshell quilt pattern all foundation paper pieced! At that time I didn't know anything about FPP, but I gave it a try, stumbled quite a bit, but stuck with it and eventually, I started to love it! I learned a new skill! So that alone was a gift, and the finished quilt was the cherry on top. So you never know . . .

TINA R - HAPPY BIRTHDAY a day late. Sorry. I got pretty busy yesterday and I did remember to text you in the afternoon. I hope you had a happy gathering with all your family!

I see VAL isn't here again. I've learned that if you try your password too many times you can be blocked from a website. Not sure if this is one of those websites, but if it happens, maybe it's just a matter of changing your password to get back in.

We've been watching episodes of Sweet Empire Baking Competition. Only 5 episodes and finale is Sunday. These bakers are professionals on the competition circuit. Last night they had to bake North Pole animals. The polar bear was almost as tall as I am! (though that's not saying a lot, I know). Made of cake and Rice Krispie treats. A walrus took first, about 3 ft long. And a Snowy owl perched on a large chocolate post with 4' wing spread. The feathers were individual, made of chocolate, sprayed white, and tipped with gold. Spectacular! Everything has to be edible! And they were all incredible. Even Bill was fascinated.

I've decided on my next quilt! Now that QIAD's sale on Elizabeth Hartman's patterns is over, I realized I needed the dinosaur pattern! There is a little birthday coming up in early April and I want to be ready with a birthday quilt #3. But a good friend is loaning me her pattern so as soon as I'm able - I'll be getting down to business! In the meantime, I still have my CW's and also my wooly mittens for a change of pace.

I'm ready for the hospital. Since my surgery is 2pm - late in the day to get through recovery and PT - they said I'll probably spend the night, which is fine with me! Surprisingly, I'm not too nervous. Partly because of all the success stories friends have shared with me! And partly, I'm sure, because of prayer. I thank you all so much!

I'll be seeing you on the flip side - after my nap!

Good snowy morning we got a squall through here and it was a white out. But it is gone now,,we got another inch, Gloria is brave and on her way to my house. she lives about 20 minutes away. I hate driving and hate driving in the snow.
Maryz you will be in my thoughts all day today,,,Once you check in at the hospital things move so quickly you really dont have time to worry, and before you know it you are waking up in recovery,,,with some lovely nurse calling your name, My first reaction was done already??? it seemed so quick.
I am waiting for GLoria to come we will do brunch and then quilt.
I broke down and started puttering with the JA quilt...There are a ton of quarter inch stems to do so I am making them and cutting them right now labeling them I think for asthetics I am going to hand applique this quilt. I watched a few videos and did a little sampling,,,It is not needle turn,,,I wont do that (did try that and it was really bad) I have a stash of 60 wt thread in a good selection of colors. Wish me luck...I love hand work and there is a ton of it, This was designed as a BOM and I see why, it will take a long time to complete...if we have a really bad winter,,,more quilting,
I hope Garry has good news today,,,and I had the same thoughts that he might be on meds that are keeping him sleepy or a combination of meds.
Tina happy Birthday a little late,,hope you had a great day,,,you are in my prayers also...
any one else that needs prayers hope you get the answers you need,
THose of you who can post pictures here. How about some pictures of your decorated homes.???.
Have a wonderful dayXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Another chilly morning, but hope to see 70° this afternoon.

MaryZ, You are in my thoughts and prayers. I don't know what all the meds are. It doesn't seem to matter the time of day, he's sleeping.

Lois, I like King Arthur flour. Enjoy the cookies.

It may take a couple days to hear back from insurance. I just pray they will pay, at least for a while.

Kaylyn is working on a Christmas projects for her BFF and boyfriend. She needs to go back to HL today, I may go with to break up my day.

LOIS - I can smell those gingerbread cookies from here! They are so fragrant! What is your DH hunting for? Deer? turkey? Duck?

JUDI - I knew it!! I knew you couldn't resist! I'm glad you are giving hand applique a try. I loved it, but I love most handwork. As long as it doesn't involve yarn.

LYN - I hope you go to HL with Kaylyn. You need a change of scenery! And HL with Kaylyn is purrfect.

Good morning!

A bit cloudy, but alas no snow in them thar clouds!

Not much here. Crenda will be here today to clean. She won't have much to do, as every surface is covered with Christmas! 😀

I, too, was wondering about Garry's meds. Mr G takes some that do have the sleepy side effects, so we plan those at night. Praying for the insurance to step up. And the billing reps to code it right! I have been fighting with the billing people at the hospital here. They make numerous mistakes and Sarah has the patient advocate on speed dial!

I will take some pictures today. Hopefully post image and Gmail will cooperate.

My new tree just left Tacoma this morning. I watch the tracking. But it's shipped with FedEx and they lie big time on delivery dates. They always say one date and then it's pushed off for another several days. The old tree is still up, no ornaments, in the window for the time being. The new tree is smaller in width, so won't take long to decorate. When I was a kid, we never decorated until the 20th of December, which was my brother's Tommy's birthday. Then the tree came down on January 2nd. Boy, would my mom be shocked at my house now! I remember, she wasn't very crafty, she saved three wax paper tubes from the center of the roll, and covered them with red foil wrapping paper. They became candles, stuck in Styrofoam, that was wrapped in aluminum foil. And the other she made was three fake plastic poinsettia flowers, attached to a board, covered with red felt. That was the extent of any decorations besides the tree. I guess I was decoration deprived! LOL! All my mom's Christmas, ornaments, lights, etc, fit in a box, that was a old cardboard egg carton shipping container. About 18x40x12. Later when I was 12, she added a artificial Christmas tree -one of those silver aluminum trees, without the puff on the end of the branches, just plain. Along with the obligatory wheel light that changed colors. I even remember buying that tree at Montgomery Wards! She picked out turquoise plain glass balls, one for each branch. There are a few of those ornaments still surviving on my tree today. Sorry about waxing reminiscent today. Today many many years ago, my grandmother passed away and tomorrow is when my mom passed, 25 years ago. Those two always did everything together!

Well, time to get busy. I have a list of errands that need running. I still a sloth, but graduated to a three toed sloth, they are slightly faster than the two toed ones!

Keeping all close in prayer today, Maryz and Garry especially,

Hugs,
Jana

Maryz, a couple more hours and you'll be starting a new journey. Today is my mom's birthday, so I think that's a lucky omen for you. She was such a wonderful soul.

Jana, that's what makes me crazy about decorations. You can't clean.

Lyn, I was thinking about going to HL to see if they have the pillow forms I need. Take a break and go to HL with Kaylyn.

Judi, you could just do a block a month on the JA. Enjoy the process.

Another beautiful day here. Supposed to be in the 80's. It warms up just enough to enjoy the outside without it being to awful hot. Painting yesterday was so much fun. I may do a bit today. I can set up on the back patio. I need to do a few errands today first though. And also work on the Joy pillows.

Have a lovely day.

I did go to HL with Kaylyn, Walmart and ate at Ben Miller's. Lunch was OK, but I don't need to try it again.

Garry is only receiving insulin and antibiotics, the nurse said. They were giving him a blood thinner, but Dr must have stopped the one that was a shot in his stomach area, because nurse said she hadn't given him that one today. So, sleepy is all Garry's body.

Good evening. what a long and chilly day. But it's over now and it really wasn't bad.

My furnace has been acting up. Dad came over to check it out. That man can fix anything. He undid some wire nuts, checked the thermostat, then redid the wire nuts. and poof, all is working now and my toes are thawing out. Such a huge blessing.

Tomorrow the person will come measure my windows. I guess the first guy was the estimate person and this guy will measure exactly. I will have him give me those measurements so I can think about window coverings. Still not sure if it will be blinds, shades or curtains. It worked out well because I was able to put the cost of the windows on my Amazon credit card and not have points to purchase curtains

Lori, YES!!! lets do a road trip to Judi's house. Sure would like to see the 80's. I am not sure it's reached 50 here. Happy birthday to your mom. How great it must have been to grow up with a mom who had a wonderful soul. It's good to be you.

Maryz, Our town does the giving trees and Kops for Kids too. There is also a group who puts gifts together for seniors. There are lots of good things that happen during Christmas. The Sheriff's association gives out turkey dinners to people who need help buying all the ingredients. It's pretty cool, what good people can do.

Lois, does DH get a deer every year? Do you cook a lot of venison? I've eaten venison but am not a huge fan.

Judi, lucky you. You are on my and Lori's bucket list. How was Gloria and brunch?

Jana, you, like me, watch that tracking like a hawk. I usually order everything from Amazon and rarely from Etsy. Well this year I ordered from Etsy and WMart. I had to remember to look at their tracking. Hope that tree arrives early and fits perfectly,

Lyn, I'm glad you took a break with Kaylyn and went to HL and to lunch. I'm glad she's able to distract you a bit. Any news on Garry's gallbladder test or did they not do it? Hope you get the insurance stuff straightened out. I had a few insurance billing issues after my surgery, but stayed on them and It's all been resolved. I told the girl who wanted me to call back next week that I would be calling her daily instead. I do still get a bill for Jerry that I just write "not at this address" on. He's in collections now.

I really had hoped that MZ would have updated us, but nooooo, She's probably sleeping it off.

You all have a fun night, sleep well
