MONDAY, December 8th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Dec 08, 2025 6:11 am

[*]Good morning,

For once, I woke up the dog instead of the other way around. But he never grumbles. Any time I move, day or night, he jumps up and comes with. There just might be food involved.

CHRISS - Glad you are keeping Dad busy. It keeps him in touch a little bit with his old lifestyle. Have you given any thought to any sewing projects? The presents you've got for Elliott will be the best! He's going to love both of them. Didn't you make him a stocking last year? That is ringing a bell with me. You seem to win prizes everywhere you go! A few weeks ago you won $75 at Bingo! Girl, you must be Irish!! And yes, dinosaurs belong on trees. And this year, the tree is fake and pink flocked!

JUDI - glad Ken survived the MRI. I think the MRI people have been working to help patients with claustrophobia. Smart move to order chicken. How did you order it fixed? And did you get your ham pre-sliced, too? You are so ready! Now, what are you going to do with your time between now and the Feast??

LORI - do you know how you hurt your shoulder to begin with or was it just overuse? Underuse? Not enough sewing?? If it seems like I do a lot each day it's all smoke and mirrors. Some of the errands, I just wait in the car. And Bill did most of the laundry (yesterday) and made the bed. He's already got the sheets back in the washer this morning - Dr orders fresh sheets every night for 3 nights pre-op. But I did travel the grocery store, hanging on to the cart - just like my mom used to do. That Christmas program must have been beautiful - especially with your own friend playing the bells.

MARY Q - did you get all your Christmas stuff down yesterday? Is today decorating day?? You know, I LOVE real trees, but this year we're using Drew's 6' pre-lit fake tree because we needed a tree in mid-October before any trees were available. And you know - it's not bad! There are advantages - A big one is that you can put it up in October and leave it up until Jan - or the next Dec! The problem is storage. One more thing to try to fit on the shelves in our shop - with the other fake stuff - poinsettias and garlands. Did you go and look at that flocked tree? In the little video kids sent of Amara hanging her dinosaur ornament, I saw the tree is fake, and pink flocked! It looks fun! I saw a similar one at Michaels and it really caught my eye.

JANA - Glad Mr. G is feeling a bit better. My brother, Jim, who had Parkinson's, was pretty wobbly, too. Walking is IMPORTANT! Any exercise. He and Terry walked 2 miles every day. Jim used a walking stick for balance which helped a lot. And made him look more athletic than a cane (though he had a cane, too). That was a cool story you shared about the temple in Hawaii during the Pearl Harbor attack. I'm sorry you won't get your new teeth until after Christmas, but you can always puree your turkey and spread it on toast points with a dab of cranberry sauce. Try it! You (and Mikey!) will like it!

LYN - I'm not fan of roller coasters either. And you are riding a big one! My heart is with you as you rush through all the ups and downs. Trying to send you hugs, support, and strength through "subspace". I'm happy to hear Garry passed his swallow test. How is his limb movement? Is PT still working with him? Is he alert and oriented when he is awake?

DIANE - I had the same experience yesterday, trying to get on our forum. When this happens I usually just sip my coffee and check e-mails/texts that came in through the night while I wait for it. And it's most likely not QIAD, but their internet provider. If that makes me sound smart, don't be fooled - I live with a retired network engineer.

VAL - I hope you can get on the site today. I e-mailed them and told them what you are experiencing. In the meantime, feel free to text me anything you'd like posted. Though there will be a short interruption in my services while I go for my new hip.

Well, let's see - what did I do yesterday? Helped Bill fold one load of clothes, watched two football games (both of my teams won! Hawks and Broncos), and stitched about 4 Cathedral Windows. Bill heated up the bean soup on the wood stove as we watched a baking competition show. I do empty the dishwasher most mornings if it has been run. That can be problematic as there is so much turning to put various dishes, utensils, pots, and pans away. I have to take several short steps to make turns, rather than just pivot. If I forget and pivot, I am very sorry.

Today's plan - chiropractor with my red laser treatment. Then Lee and Lara asked us to go with them to Three Hearts Bakery in Tacoma where Alec is the new head baker. I'm still waiting for my "pre-screening for anesthesia" phone call that I was supposed to get last Friday. There is nothing else on my to-do list except remove my nail polish and pack a small bag because I will probably be spending tomorrow night in the hospital as my surgery is scheduled for so late in the day. Unless they suddenly change the time which is always possible. I am so relieved that I'm finally getting this new hip, but also a bit anxious. Surgery is surgery. Bill will text one or two people here and maybe one of them will post a quick update like "She survived!" ?

Tonite's supper: Poached eggs on sour dough toast. Something light.

Wishing you all a good day to begin a good week.

Good Morning all I was awake at 4 and so was Ken, why? have no idea. I got up sat on the edge of the bed Ken went into his office and I am not sure what he was doing in there, I was planning my day,,,I dont have anywhere to go so I will bake cookies. today is oatmeal. pecan cranberry cookies. I am waiting for the butter to soften up a bit more but all the ingredients are prepped and the pecans are toasted. oven is preheating...
After cookies I will make meatballs and gravy with mashed potatoes fr supper/ with a veggie of my choice,,I havent looked in the freezer to see what is there,
The chicken I ordered is fried chicken and the place I ordered is called Chicken Shack Im not sure if they are a chain or local but they make very very good chicken...
I did watch a few JA vidueos by 2 different people and now my delima is.....to hand applique ( which I have never done) or machine applique which is faster but doesnt liike as "quilty" I may go to Lori Holts page to see what she does and see if she has made this quilt, hand applique will slow me down considerably but all I have is this project to do after Liams grad quilt is done. What do you all think...???
Well my butter should be soft and oven preheated by now...Have a wonderful day..
Maryz preop gitters are normal and no one should tell you otherwise...hope the anethesia call is today...while your still lucid..(lol) make sure you ask what type of anethesia your getting and ask about the preop drugs too
I voted for local and a nice dose of Versed to make you forget everything. And a year later I still cannot rememebr any of the surgery part til I woke in recovery, I also had a nerve block and it kept the pain at bay for the first 24 hrs, Then they have all kind of fancy stuff to ease your pain,,dont be afraid to ask for it,,,prayers all will be well and by tomorrow evening you will be ready for some dancing,,,( maybe at least some walking)
Im off to the kitchen,,have a wonderful day, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning!

I'm awake, but not up. Tucked nicely under a warm quilt. It's barely light. A few minutes ago, our phone rang, just once, so no idea who and that rudely woke me up. Oh well ........

Aaron and the girls came and my big family room has ornaments. While the girls and I did that, Aaron got the wiring setup on Dickens. That's a huge help for Mr G. And also setup up Mt white tree in the front window. There's a problem with that tree. It's supposed to be white, but the pvc material has now turned a very ugly yellow/brown. I've had it a few years and it was a cheap tree, so last night at midnight, I went shopping for a new one. Ordered it, the tree is shipped and hopefully will be here Wednesday. So the old will stay in the window, no ornaments until then. The New tree is white, 7ft and what is called a pencil tree. Only 30 inches wide. It I'll fit perfectly in that small room. So today I'll get the rest of the empty totes corralled and the house straightened. Bake a batch of cookies and get them gift bagged. Monday nights in our church culture is Family Home Evening. Families do things together every week, so this Monday, many ward families bring by neighbor treats/gifts. So i can share our cookies with them.

Daniel is running the permanent power to the yard decorations. He's frustrated with some car maintenance on Kari's Charger, so this gives him a break. Eventually the power will be totally automatic, just plug and play as they say.

Maryz - lots of prayers from here. I remember all the pre-op fun! And the worry. Wish I could take it all on here for you. Soon, you'll be back dancing a Irish jig!

Well, need to get my whip and chair and tame these boxes,

Hugs and so many prayers,
Jana

I'm back - showered, hosp bag packed, and I'm ready for today

JUDI - I would try a sample block of hand applique to see if you like it and to build your skills. And then compare to how much applique is in this quilt. I love the look of hand applique. Don't you dare get me enthused about something else! I'm still working on my CW's! Thanks for all the tips, reminders, etc. It's one thing being the nurse, but it's an entirely different ball of wax when you're the patient. I do know I am having a general anesthetic. The PA seemed surprised when I asked about it. She said, "do you WANT a local, because we can do that if you prefer." Nope! Not me! I was just assuring myself that I would be having a general!

JANA - I bet that white pencil tree will look amazing! In her old life, Autumn had a gold 5' pencil tree that was only about 15" wide. Didn't take many ornaments to bedazzle that one!

Good Morning Girls

Up, showered and dressed ... well sort of..... Same temp here as in Anchorage and we are getting snow flakes! No worries, I only have to drive down to Shawn's house--2 miles!

Maryz... Yes, all my Christmas stuff is down! It looks like Hobby Lobby blew up in here! Shawn accidentally took my box of lights to his house, so I have to run down and grab them before I can get my tree up. I'm finding a lot of stuff that I've had for years and now have no room for (or desire to keep) so am giving away on FB. I have one large black garbage bag full of bows---the wired ribbon bows.(not package bows) that I spent last night sorting. Some I'll keep, some I'll donate. I do loves me some big old bows! You will be in my thoughts and prayers all day today and tomorrow, for you and your surgeons! I'll anxiously await news! OH heck yeh... put me UNDER for hip surgery! They even put me totally under for carpal tunnel! A little versed and fentanyl!

Judi.... Love the look of hand applique, but you're right, machine is faster. If my stitches were pretty and consistent I would probably give it a try, but even doing hand sewing of binding, ---well let's just say, it's a good thing the stitches don't show! You know who does the most beautiful hand stitching.... Denise! I have a couple items she made for me years ago and they are spot on perfect. Sounds like you are baking up a storm! I'm going to make a little cranberry bread and that's it. Kris and Sara are doing cookie exchanges with their families, so they don't need Nana to bake too!

Jana....Just for the heck of it this morning, I googled trees on Hobby Lobby to see if the one I want is still available. Nothing in Stock online, but I'm thinking that pencil tree sounds like a great idea, I have a tiny area to put a tree. My Ex has Parkinson's too, so I have heard how important exercise is. He goes to a gym a couple times a week and does boxing there. At least that's what the kids tell me. I don't talk to him a lot. He also has memory issues with his Parkinsons.

Chriss... Oh how I wish I could tell you all sorts of stories of my Aunt Ida! She really wasn't technically an Aunt. My Dad's parents took her in as a small child--she spoke only Norwegian and had been abandoned by her family. We found a brother after she passed, but he wanted nothing to do with her. Sweetest lady that had a rough life. At some point in time, my Dad became her guardian. Later on I'll text you a picture of her. How fun that the kids will be at your house for Christmas!!! Oh my gosh the fun you will have and the wonderful memories you will make!!!

Lori... The craft fair I did this year was only for 5 hours... so $130 for 5 hours I guess isn't too bad. I didn't do the all-week one this year as set up was on a Sunday and I thought I was going to be in Wisconsin for that weekend. IF (BIG BIG IF) I do another craft fair, I'd do that one again--so that I don't have to sit there all day!!! I found a whole big bag of wrapping paper in my Christmas stuff.... I have plenty to share... come on over!!

Guess if I'm going to get this tree up I better run down to Shawn's house and get the lights --need to stop at the Post Office and maybe the Dollar Tree--as it's right next door!

Wishing you all the Very best today!

Good morning. The fog is rolling in and out and the heater is running constantly. I love both but am ready for the fog to go away.

I have no plans for today. I'd like to do the housework I didn't get to yesterday and I'd like to work on my jigsaw puzzle but have no plans.

Maryz, Hoping you get that phone call today. don't forget to pack sleeping pants. Everyone at the hospital knows it's cracked but they don't necessarily want to see it. Enjoy your bakery trip, what could be better than a grandson hug and an apple fritter all in one day. Prayers for a successful surgery and a complete recovery. I don't always win prizes, but yes, I am part Irish. Mc Elligott is the Irish family name. I think a pink flocked tree is the perfect dinosaur resting spot.

Judi, in my next life I'm coming back as your kid. You make the best meals. I love meatballs with gravy over potatoes. Just mix it all up and add peas. I like the look of hand applique but seem to always go for machine applique. I have seen a video of someone doing hand and marking their thumbnail with quarter inch lines, so they make even stitches. Hmmm, I didn't know there were anesthesia and pain choices in surgery, I was just thrilled that the hospital had a rule that if the anesthetist worked in their facility they had to accept my insurance. I also don't remember going under or the surgery. I do remember seeing my son briefly afterwards.

Jana, I remember buying my first artificial Christmas tree. It was in a box at a yard sale. Who knew that you had to read the box and see how wide the tree was. This one was very skinny. I donated it when my grandma gave me her artificial much wider tree. That tree now belongs to Marilyn, if she ever comes to get it.

Maryq, I remembered that Ida wasn't really an aunt, but didn't know she was abandoned. Glad she found your parents. We will actually be at my dad's on the 21st. No big dinner. I will make a macaroni salad and bring sandwich fixin's, build your own. It's sort of what we do because my parents and I don't eat as much as we used to and my son doesn't ever want to take leftovers home. Our town has a yearly give away. People bring toys and household items and things, there is a vacant lot, you can bring and take whatever you want and anything left goes to Safe Families who is an organization that just has stuff people need, food, hygiene items, clothing, household items etc. We also have the buy nothing site on FB.

Lois, dang girl, You've gotten a lot done and it is only noon your time. Hope Bill gets a buck, unless he's hunting for bear, then I hope he gets a bear. actually, I have no clue which hunting season happens when.

My stomach is growling, guess I should feed it. You girls have a groovy day,
Chriss

Maryq -

Ol' Scrooge here says, if your house looks like Hobby Lobby blew up, this house was Hobby Lobby's Central warehouse that went boom, big time!

He's being a good Scrooge, helping me clean up. Almost ready for a picture or two.

Good afternoon. Sunny day but only 62°.

Yesterday I found Garry sleeping soundly. He didn't eat.
There's no PT.
I had hoped that Garry would wake up enough that the Dr and I could have a conversation with him, but that didn't happen.

Today the insurance is being contacted, hopefully Garry can be moved to the Oaks Nursing facility soon. Our friends Bob & Carol came to visit. Then the 3 of us went to lunch. I came back to find the Speech Therapist trying to wake Garry and give him ice cream or a straw full of soda. She couldn't keep him awake and finally gave up trying.

MaryZ, You are in my prayers. I hope and pray that you'll be dancing up a storm soon.

Prayers for your needs.
Lyn

Maryz, I'll be thinking about you tomorrow. I know you'll be glad when this is behind you and you have no pain. Don't know what I did to the shoulder. They said sometimes it just happens. Well lucky me.

Lyn, hopefully Gary will get approval and get moved. How are you holding up?

Jana, I decorated the communications center like that one year. People made comments, but I know they liked it.

Maryq, is the tree up and lit? I've never had an artificial tree. We buy fresh or go without.

Chriss, let's take a road trip to Judi's. She's always cooking or baking something yummy.

I cleaned up a few things this morning, then made a list of things I need to buy and do. Then went to my watercolor class, which was very fun, this afternoon. We painted Christmas cards. If I plan ahead, I make all my cards next year. I'm going to heat up some leftover potato ham soup for dinner.

Have a good evening.
