JANA - said a prayer for Kate and baby Enoch. The good news is in an NICU - a 30-weeker is rather routine - Baby should do fine, though I know it's really scary when it's YOUR baby (or grandbaby!). And if they can hold off delivery even a day or two, the stress of early labor will cause production of surfactant, a substance that helps in maturing the lungs - the last of baby's organs to mature. It's Nature's way of stepping it up. Please let us know how things go. We all love your family.
In other news:
LYN texted me late yesterday. Garry has had a bit of a setback and was transferred back to the regular hospital, which is about a mile from the rehab. She and Garry could also use some prayers.
JUDI - did you go to the concert last night? what instrument does Ryker play? Seems like he was just born and suddenly he's doing concerts! These babies are growing up too fast!
CHRISS - congratulations on your cardio graduation! For all you have done, and all you have survived in the past few years, you deserve a standing ovation along with those brand new windows! We couldn't believe the difference when we got our windows about 4 years ago. Only drawback is now we can't hear the owls at night. But a big advantage is we can't hear the owls at night! Scottie can't stand owls and he goes into a barking frenzy when he hears the owls at night.
LORI - thanks for the wool tips. If I do use glue, I'll try for just a small dot of it in a spot where I wouldn't stitch - though some of these pieces are pretty small! I also have Sewline glue sticks. I'm using those on my CW's - but I'll try your tips before any glue. Thanks! Yay for a day with no appts!! Today, I have 4. Ugh. Any new treasures turning up at Mom & Dad's?
LOIS - Several quilters advised me to use pen and paper and make swirls and loops and sharp turns over and over again - while watching TV in the evening perhaps. It develops muscle memory and makes following those pantos easier. You'll get it! Like everything else in life - it takes practice.
FLO - sorry you get bruised when you have blood draws. Do you take blood thinners? Do they have a difficult time finding a vein? Some people have rolling veins that are hard to hit. If you're not already, try drinking lots of water for the 24 hours before your blood draw.
TINA B - nope! I see no sense in driving in snow for 25 minutes to jump in a pool to exercise! And I noticed a lot of dr appts in your post yesterday, Hope all is well for you both.
VAL - I think you said you had gotten a start on the KTVC? Check out the Pro Tip on bottom of pg 13 in the directions. To look ahead and cut biggest pieces first. Most experienced quilters would know to do this in a project like this, but just in case . . . Judi and I felt that this tip really should be at the very beginning.
MARY Q - what were you doing yesterday? Isn't today your Community Christmas party? And Saturday your craft show? I'm guessing you are busy.
Yesterday morning I made cranberry muffins for breakfast and then got crackin' on some more cards. They are like having a having a short visit with all the friends and family we see so seldom. LuLu was here so I kind of moved around the house as she cleaned, working at various things. I stitched CW's in the living room, wrote cards in the dining room, and finally moved to the sewing room where I made my label and put binding on my Vintage Christmas. It's ready to go on the bed today. Then we left for dinner in Bremerton (27 mile drive) and met Drew. It's always so good to see him. We're looking for a girlfriend for him if anyone has any granddaughters up for grabs! He's 32, handsome (no, really!), good job, has owned his own home for 10 years, drug-free, non-smoker, loves animals and little kids. And he did tell me if he is able to get out and about while working in Japan and sees a fabric store, he'll go look for some fabric for me! He's a good boy!
Today I have 4 appointments starting with massage at 11am. Then at 3pm I have last appt with surgeon's PA, a CT scan, and some XR's. Fortunately, those last 3 are in the same building one right after the other. In between appts, we're going on a round of gift-delivering - we have cookies for the staff at UPS store where our mail is delivered, Hickory Farms for my massage therapist, and bottles of wine for my old dentist who is retiring and his hygienist and receptionist. After so many years I'm going to miss them all!
Supper is going to be leftover pork tenderloin, sweet potatoes, and apples, with salad on the side.
Saying prayers for everyone - but especially for Kate & baby and for Garry & Lyn.
