No sewing this week but after threes are up I usually get back into the sewing room to catch up/ on projects I want to do...Gifts are starting to come in and they will need wrapping,,,and I wrap the ornaments with gift cards for the bigs,,,and the 3 littles get toys. Ryker is 9 and he is getting harder to buy for. we also have a white elephant exchange so I need to come up with a couple of gifts for thst yet,
Well hope you in a festive mood and also a thankful one...I rememeber Chris used to come up with the word of the day,,,My word today and all week will be Gratitude...I am thankful for everything i have XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning and Happy Monday.

Spent yesterday at open sew. All the blocks for Cataleia's quilt are complete. The rows are sewn together but now have to sew the rows to the rows. Today is MAD Monday. I have a new pattern to try. It seems quite easy.

Lori glad you are finding many hidden treasures. I have had my parents Christmas stuff for quite a while now. I am not sure I have ever gone through it all. With just us, we done really decorate anymore. My granddaughter used to like to help decorate the tree but she is grown now and working so has no time. Too be honest, she has made a poor decision in men and I really don't want him in my house so glad she doesn't come around much.

Lyn is Garry still having additional or worsening symptoms? So sad about the children. My DBIL has a similar situation with his 2 girls but sometimes there is just nothing you can do about it. Prayers for both of you. I'll bet Garry will be thrilled to Minnie. When my sister was sick, we snuck her dog in. I think it made her day.

Jana funny the older computers, yes you could just turn them on. Now, we usually have ours set up from the place we purchase them at.

Maryq, no I was born in Aurora Colorado. My Dad was in the military (22 yrs) so we were stationed in Germany for about 4 years. We did not come back to the states until 1964. We also did not have a TV in those years. While full occupation was over, there was still a strong military presence in those days. I was young enough that I did learn to speak German and often translated (well as best a 5 yr old can) for my Mom. When we came back here though, many still had ill feelings towards Germans and therefore I was not allowed to speak it and lost the language. I remember the people across the street were quite hateful as they had lost their only child in the war.

Maryz we are having fog challenges these days. We are currently at 49, may get to 61. No rain so far in the forecast. I have a binding tool, funny, have never used it for binding. How wide do you cut your binding? What was explained to me, was cut your binding 2.25 inches. Sew to the front as you normally would but at 3/8 inches instead of 1/4. Then when you flip it to the back, glue baste it down and stitch in the ditch from the front on the seam where you sewed the binding on. Maybe when I get through my current rush, I will do a small block and give it a whirl. That's not many UFO's, I may count mine one day.

Judi I didn't get to the sheets yesterday. Maybe today.

Lois yes, I think it's a good idea to leave all your education with Sandi. Funny yesterday at the shop my Daughter dropped by. I told her she should have brought her machine. She said she thought about it but couldn't find her fabric. Now mind you, we were at a quilt shop. We let her know there was plenty more!

Well if I am to get everything done before leaving for Mad Monday I need to get started. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning,

It's Thanksgiving week! So much to be thankful for! Our small gathering will be on Friday rather than Thursday. It's also my older sister's 83rd birthday today. She's in FL at the moment, visiting their friends. I wish she were here.

LORI - That's such good news that Black Jack is able to do a whole mile! He's such a good boy! Funny how he dragged rugs out of the house. Scottie just scrapes them all up into nests. I'm glad you are keeping the Jim Shore. Cindy collects Jim Shore art - it might be just angels or it might be anything - I can't remember. I wonder what other wonderful surprises you'll find in those boxes! How was the watercolor art show?

LYN - Such a sad story about Garry's children. Our friend, Tex, also lost a 17 yr old son the same way and about the same time. Also ruled a suicide, but Tex feels there was more to the story. Garry has been through a lot in his life. Thank you for explaining the stroke to us so well. It scares me to think of this happening while you were in Canada or on the road. I hope as you settle into a bit of a routine, you can get some rest for yourself.

JANA - glad you were able to provide some fun for Aaron! I think I'm more into traditional Christmas reds & greens, so I'd be a rogue, too. I usually am. I am my mother's daughter! I love handwork, but hand applique not so much - I've done two full quilts, applique all by hand and decided all applique from now on will be by machine. Cindy loves hand applique and needle turn. Different strokes. I also use batting for "snow".

MARY Q - One thing I plan to do during my recovery is weed through my binders of patterns. I have 11 binders - big quilts, Christmas, Other Holidays, sm projects, kids & baby, etc. Many I've made and many I no longer find interesting, but some still - maybe - God only knows when - I might decide to make. Oh, I love the name Weston. Kind of like Easton, only 'opposite'! I like the name Wes even more. Did you get your hair cut? How did it turn out? I have to say, I think I like my new 'do'. Short! It makes my round face look a bit thinner. I just might keep it. It won't be long until Jen moves back to MN! Next summer, right? Will Eli like that, do you think? And it looks like a cold front moving in on you! Brrr!! Maybe you'll have a white Thanksgiving?

JUDI - Just reading your post puts me in a happy mood! I can visualize your house and it must look like a Christmas Wonderland by now! Such fun! Next thing you'll be making wassail and cookies for Santa! I'm glad there was such a nice turnout for Gloria's birthday. A 75th birthday should have a nice turnout!

LOIS - So let me get this straight - is the binding tool really for Sandi or is it ultimately for you?   How was your spinach and gnocchi soup? it sounds pretty good to me. I still need a couple of things for TG - frozen rolls and I can't remember what else. Susie is bringing dessert and Lara is doing asparagus and fruit salad. I'll do turkey breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, and the olives, pickles, and cranberries.

VAL - your post is sounding more like your old normal energized self! Glad you are back! I remember people being less than friendly towards anything/anyone German back in the 50's. My first husband, Mike, took 6 years of German. He could speak it quite well. When we were 16 and went to a movie, two German ladies sat behind us, and were talking about us in German. Never occurred to them they would be understood! I've never tried machine binding the way you describe. Maybe I will take an orphan block (I seem to collect them for some reason) and try it. Maybe it's better than my method.

Well, all y'all talked me into it - I put away all the fall stuff yesterday and packed it into my big orange tote when I remembered the straw wreath on the front door. Bill got it, brought it into the house and flopped it onto the downstairs floor and suddenly there were BUGS!! A hundred little box elder roaches scampering all over the place. They had settled into the wreath to hibernate! He was stomping as fast as he could, gathering up some in tissues and tossing them into the wood stove. He came up to tell me, and we both went back downstairs and continued the bug hunt. The wreath went into the garbage! It was old anyway and getting a little tacky from the weather. Double ick!!

In my craft cabinet I came across a couple complete Nativity sets and a few stray pieces - all fired ceramic but not painted. I found them in thrift shops in CO last year and couldn't resist. I love Nativity sets. The stray pieces match the big set I made when I was 18/19 yrs old and gave to Autumn a few years ago. It took me 8 months to make that one. The others - One is the same set I made 55 years ago and the other is only 5" tall. Maybe I'll take the easy way out and paint the two complete sets cream-colored and antique them to look like carved ivory.

I have all 4 of my UFO's still sitting out on my sewing work table. Staring at me. I could start putting some of them together. Or not. I have chiro this morning, then going to Michael's for new, bug-free wreaths, and some candles. And maybe some garland. And we might swing through the grocery store for milk and rolls. Then home to sew, paint, or do laundry.

Happy Monday - and praying for all but especially Chriss, Dad, Garry, LYN, Diane, & Joe.

Good morning!

We are below freezing! And it's cold! I'm sitting waiting for Mr G to get his blood draw for the upcoming cath procedure. So I'm hoping it's a short wait!

Not much other planned for today. Most everything is caught up. So hopefully I can sew. I am scheming with myself to use my stair lift to carry up a few Christmas totes. Here's the plan - I'll put one tote on the chair, use the remote to run it to the landing, where Mr. G will put it, temporarily, run the chair back down and repeat. W or three times. Then I ride up to the landing, and repeat the process to the main floor. In my brain seems like a workable plan. Just a few totes at a time. Hope hope hope. Oh, there's a seat belt on the chair to hold things.

Well, I'm on my phone, so all typos, please excuse.

Prayers and hugs,
Jana

Good morning. It will be a day full of chores here. I've decided to skip cardio rehab and catch up on things I need to do here.

Dad is doing better. His leg is still swollen but he is walking a bit. My thoughts, and I am no doctor, if he would keep it elevated and use the walker the swelling would go down. But what do I know, he's much older and wiser. They have enchiladas for last night and spaghetti for tonight, I don't need to go there until tomorrow unless my phone rings. I clearly have daddy issues, ha ha

Lori, that Jim Shore sleigh and reindeer will look beautiful in your house, what a great find. I was collecting Jim Shore angels then one year Jerry bought me a JS angel that was easily 2 feet tall, I quit collecting them. My angels are maybe as tall as a barbie doll. I bet it's fun going through those boxes and totes not knowing what will pop up. I feel like you are going through what will be happening here in the not to distant future.

Lois, I think it's great that you and Sandi are quilting together. Bonding over needle and thread, very cool.

Judi, I did my bedding yesterday too. It took all day but it's so nice to get into a clean bed. Glad the surprise party was a hit. I bet your house will be beautiful all decorated for Christmas. I am no decorator. My Christmas shopping is done except for my grandson. My son and his wife don't want anything, and I don't want them to get me anything, it's a working agreement. I've already sent Marilyn her gift card, she will get it this week. She needed the $. Santa will write a letter to Elliott and send a toy especially for him because of his name being on the nice list. I think the toy will have something to do with the wheels on the bus going round and round. It's his new thing.

Maryz, how long will you be in the hospital. The two things I found I needed were a long corded phone charger and a pair of sleeping pants. I slept a lot. I am trying to not get my parents premade or take out meals. Dad certainly doesn't need the salt. His BP is a bit high. I know of a little girl who is going to love getting a scrap book in the mail soon. Your box elder story reminds me of growing up. whenever we stayed at grandma's we had to shake the bedding and out clothes before putting them on. I never saw bugs but grandma once got bitten by something and that made shaking the rule.

Lyn, I'm sorry that the stroke is progressing for Garry. I'm also sorry that his daughter isn't involved. I know the sadness that Jerry felt when his daughter disappeared from his life. I am sorry that Garry had to go through that too. After Jerry died my concern was that his daughter (Marilyn's birth mom) would try to come back and collect. We had it in Jerry and my trust that if his daughter did come back, she would get $1,000. My new trust eliminates her completely. I have no clue if she is even alive.

Maryq, Weston is a cute name. congratulations on being a great aunt. When you go see him remember my smooch rule. My parents live about 30 or so miles from me. Pretty neat that you look in the mirror and see your mom, she must have been a beautiful lady.

Valerie, I do my binding similar to yours. I cut mine at 2 1/2 inches, sew to the front, clip it and sew it on the back. I don't use glue, but have heard it works great. I also have the binding tool usually refer to You Tube. Enjoy Mad Monday. My madness will start with cleaning bathrooms and then the kitchen.

Jana, you use that lift for the totes but don't let the grandkids see it. They might get ideas.

I think I will go have some breakfast, enchiladas and fried eggs, then start getting to work here. You girls have a superb day,
Chriss

Well, the cath lab had another cancelation and we are now scheduled for tomorrow morning at 11 am. I have a long list of dogs and don't. Nice to get it over with and not worry so much. Busy busy busy! Good thing my laundry is done, so I can pack him a overnight bag, for a just in case. And we did the blood work this morning early.
