Monday Novemeber 10 2025

Post by grammiequilts » Mon Nov 10, 2025 5:01 am

Good morning, 26 and clear this morning,,,we still have about an inch of snow on the ground but the roads are clear. I was not quite ready for winter weather, but here it is.
Today is the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the freighter Edmond Fitzgerald THis means almost nothing to most, but here it is a history we remember, That ship was built here in southern Michigan and my father in law was a ship fitter back in the 50 and helped build it. When she was launched Ken was a youngster and was there when this great ship was put into the water, So that is why we are sad to remember it sinking in the storms of Lake Superior..and of course the song by Gordon Lightfoot brings it to all of our attention,
I am still plugging away at the t shirt quilt I will put it away till I get the final jersey and buy backing fabric,,,so now I am without a quilting project, But I have a backpack to repair for my grandson and I need to finish a gift for my friend,,I am making her a kitchen Witch,,(A little doll that is said to protect you from boil overs, burnt food, and generally bring joy to your kitchen, ) I have made a few but it has been years, I found the box of goodies and decided to make one for her, we were all talking abut our other projects and hobbies...I used to make dolls before I had a daughter,,,With 3 boys it was the only girlie thing in the house...then DD was born I returned to the girl aisle of the stores...and gave up dolls. Colleen still has her collection of dolls at her house...
Well that is it for today Sunshine outside and in,,,Have a wonderful day,

Good morning and welcome to a brand new week! Do you realize only 5 more Mondays until Christmas! At the rate I'm going I won't even have my table runner for us finished!

LORI - What wonderful treasures you've been finding! Journals and in your mom's and gramma's own handwriting! My mom was also a bookaholic like her daughter -me- and her DGD - Autumn. But watch out for money hidden in books! It's a common place to hide some big bucks! Sorry you are still feeling bum. I'm sure you've been asked, as we all ask everyone these days, but have you tested for Covid? Especially being so tired.

CHRISS - we are all entitled to a day now and then where we accomplish nothing! Especially when recovering from surgery! I'm had a lot of those days lately. Glad your workaholic dad gave you a day off from flashlight holding. Whew! It's hard work! And we will take you for camping! Or Thanksgiving! Or camping over Thanksgiving!

TINA B - your Sunday was filled to the brim! And all five of your grandkids together! A treasured blessing! How far is your airport? Nice of you to bring your relatives home so late at night. And snow!! I love it! We hardly get any snow at all anymore.

CHICKIE - I'm so happy you stopped by! Happy Birthday on Wednesday! I'm so sorry the computer screen makes your head go "screen scream". That must be awful for you. But I'm glad your "dizzies" don't get in the way of sewing - much. 💗

LYN - you mean you only got one wine pour?? From a box?? Well, it's the thought that counts. Bill has a tee shirt that has a "dictionary" word and definition on it: novinophobia - fear of running out of wine. Your little humming bird is so sweet! How big is the painting? It will look purrfect in your sewing cabin and nice to know it was painted by a local artist. We also have met Chickie - and her DH, Doyal. We overnighted in their pasture a few times. First time Scottie ever saw cows! And I believe first time the curious cows ever saw a sheltie! Funny reactions all around. Scott is a herd dog, though he does specialize in sheep. But when he tried to herd the 30 or so cows and they all gathered around him curiously, his bravery kind of went "POOF!* and he ran for us, cattle trotting after him.

JANA - you are inspiring me to get out my fired nativity set and get busy. I have all the paints. It's the purrfect time in my life to do another craft for a while. No big quilts happening at the moment. And I'm not able to get around to do much else at the moment. How big a dots did you need for your roosters? Could you have just used a sharpie? I do that now and then - use sharpies for tiny areas or to color wrong color thread that accidentally shows, etc.

MARY Q - You can come here for TG! We won't make you eat veggies, either! And yes, the boys adored their little cousin and vice versa. I just wish they could see each other more often. 2,500 miles is a pretty big distance to cover for just a quick visit! I hope you can go to WI for TG, but ya gotta stay safe, too! I have to ask, though, other than it would simply be fun, is there a reason that Viv needs a sewing buddy? I know she had knee replacements last year. Is she OK? I feel like we all know her! Bill always loads my quilts even when I'm doing the quilting instead of him and his Q-bot. He uses red snappers and it makes it so much easier. They do loosen a little up with use and after a while aren't so hard to put on. I use my crockpots a lot! I love having supper cooking while I do stuff I want to do. And it smells so good!

VAL - I'm glad you got out of the house - and on your own must have been nice, especially to a quilt shop. We have friends who live in Henderson. They LOVE the heat and simply bask when it reachess 105*! I think you left on your trip Sept 4th~ish, didn't you? So it's been that long since you've been home except for a few short visits - and even then with a very long drive! I hope there are chiropractors in heaven because you're going to need one to fix your neck with the weight of all the rubies in your celestial crown! You are a blessing to Tony and to so many others. For fun, I Googled Shiny Objects fabric. There are lots of different ones!

JUDI - I'm jealous of your snow! None here for us - we were 63* yesterday! So if we can't have snow, I'll take that! Did you bake cookies? Choc chip? When Ken goes to the rink, is he just BS'g with the guys or does he still sort of work there when he's around? I remember the Edmund Fitzgerald. Mostly because of the song by Gordon Lightfoot, but also because we've traveled so much through Michigan to see Bill's relatives (now all gone). What a feeling it must be to have such a connection to that ship.

LOIS - I'm glad you got such a swift and heartfelt response from Melissa's mom about your flamingo quilt. And I'm glad you made it for her. She needed it and I'm sure it brought comfort to her. After losing your mate, people are helpful and thoughtful - for the first few weeks and then everyone drifts away. To receive even a phone call or a card is so comforting, but to receive a gift like you sent - over the top with comfort. Rubies for you, too! How did your pork tenderloins turn out? I saw a recipe for Jackie Kennedy's baked potatoes. Haven't tried them but I might soon. Mix up S&P, minced garlic, and soft butter. Poke lots of holes in the potatoes, rub them with the butter mixture, wrap them up in foil. Put a cup of hot water into the bottom of the crockpot, set in the potatoes, and let them cook all day.

Yesterday I swapped out my everyday dishes for my Christmas dishes. Of course, there was more to it than that - I had them packed in small boxes so they weren't so heavy, but still - lots of carrying back and forth down the 20 foot hallway. (Christmas dishes, cookie jars, holiday linens, etc are all stored in quilting room closet). I got it all done but I overdid and spent the afternoon with the heating pad in front of the Seahawks game And they won! So did Judi's Ken's Detroit Lions - and by the same score! 44-22. Sadly, Jana's 'Niners lost by a similar score.

I found a 28" square very detailed Nativity wall hanging I made years ago when digging around in Christmas stuff yesterday. Yay! So I'm going to hang it today after I press the folds out of it. I'm also going to sit and mark squares to make 56 HST's for my table runner. Not sure what all else I'm going to do. I need to water house plants and fill the bird feeder. I've developed carpal tunnel, am now wearing a brace, and trying to be careful of how I use my right hand. And hand stitching CW's isn't helping! I've been trying to clear out the quilting room, which had become a real catch-all during the A's visit, so Bill can put my VC on the quilting frame and get busy! Rainy days are coming up - purrfect quilting weather!

Supper tonite - We've been eating sloppy joes last two nights - but maybe that steak I mentioned a few days ago since it will be a fairly warm day - 57* - for grilling. Maybe I'll make Jackie Kennedy's baked potatoes and see if they are different from any other baked potato. But then, I just thought - I have LOTS of broccoli that needs to be used - so maybe I should make some broccoli cheddar soup. I think the soup is winning . . . (I won't let Bill vote!)

Hope you have a great day and a tasty supper!

Good morning!

Bright and sunny, but cold. I get to stay home, Mr G has a follow up demonology appointment this afternoon...

My rooster eye needed a small circle, about a skinny quarter inch. A black sharpie was on the list of fixes, so was craft paint. To make a circle with paint, use the tip of the handle dipped in the paint, makes great circles. But I was leaning toward a fix, that if I goofed, it was reversible. That's why the electrical tape and round hole punch. So happy it worked.

Not much on my docket. A bit of laundry and a small bd cake. It's Crenda's bd tomorrow and she'll be out to clean. She's my Lulu. Does a wonderful job! I'll use my small wedding cake, top tier 6 inch pan to bake the cake. Leaning towards filling a white cake with lemon curd and frosting it with a yummy butertcream .

Well, it's been my 4 month, and 2 days, since my dental surgery, so hopefully I get the final permanent implants. I'm debating calling them, I don't want to be a pest, but I do want to eat normal food! Something that doesn't have to be cut with a plastic fork! The office opens in a hour, humm...... The wait time was for the implant posts to grow and attach to the bone.

Well, off to find some trouble,

Hugs,
Jana

Happy Monday!

Chriss nice to have a do nothing day. I am planning many of those into my future. A walk is always nice too. DBIL has already stopped his walks. I was pretty sure it wouldn't last.

Lori sounds like you are finding lots of treasures. Hope you find many more. Prayers you get better soon.

Lois you Flamingos are adorable. I saw Maryq's when I was there. Love the picture but seeing them in person really makes a difference. I envy the person who received them.

Maryz I can't wait to get home to my heating pad. I have IBU and my cream with me. They don't really work though. Love a hot bath (I haven't had one in the last 2 months). First thing I will do when I go home.

Chickie good to hear from you. Great 80th BD pics. Time to start planning the 90th!

Just a few more days then I can stop this finger typing. I don't voice type as Tony is sleeping. He sleeps in his recliner.

So for now, I will go get more coffee and figure out my day. TGIM nobody ever said! Have a great day
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

Good Morning Girls

Here we are, Monday again!!! Today is my Dad's Birthday--he'd be 103! I miss him every day!

Judi.... As much as I remember 50 years ago (because of Shawn's birthday) I don't remember hearing about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald at that time. I did google it once and read all about it. You have some neat connections to it. I did know a guy once tho, that was in the Merchant Marine and was on the lake, just following the EF. I saw somewhere on line that they now ring the bell 30 times---29 for the men and once for Gordon Lightfoot.

Lois..... Funny you mentioned Katy!!!! Just as I was reading your post, she called me!!! She is fine, super busy with work around her home--since she sold her farm. She'll be back, but is having trouble getting logged on--password issue or something.

Maryz.... OH Viv is just fine, knees are good etc. She had a good friend----long long time friend ---- they would spend a day a week sewing together in Viv's big room. But there's been a major blow up---long story. And friend is no longer welcome. They were the kind of friends that you would trust to check on your cat.....with keys to house----no more. Knowing this friend as I do as well..... it's for the best that she "no longer exists"! Amazing what you can find in the back of the closet!! I keep hoping I'll find some hidden cash in the back of mine.

Jana.... Oh my goodness... that cakes sounds delicious!!! White cake is my all time favorite, but if I bake one... I eat the whole thing and the is not good for my A1C!!!

Valerie..... I can only imagine how anxious you are to get home!! Do you have a list of the projects you want to do when you get home?

Lori.... Oh my gosh... that's a lot of books!!! I do love books too. My Evie wants to have a what she calls a "Beauty and the Beast" Library--like in the movie!!! I've been collecting a few here, but have run out of room, so best not wander through the book department at Goodwill any more!

Chriss..... Every once in a while.... we do need re-charge day! Do you have any sewing projects in mind these days?

Chickie.... Just in case you are able to peek in.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! So good to see your smiling face and all those littles with you!!! Your family has been very busy!!!!

I'm up and showered and now need to get in gear---do face and hair and run up to drugstore to pick up meds! Friend Peggy is having trouble with one of her sewing machines so will stop by her house and see if I can help. As soon and I know when HD will deliver my new sink, we are going to plan a trip to Hobby Lobby with a lunch outing.

Wishing you all the best the day can bring.

Sunny, but cool. Tonight we'll hit mid 30's.

MaryZ, The painting is 5x7.

I was trying to find a recipe for my Ninja dual heat oven/air fryer last evening and a recall popped up on the Ninja foodi that has the pressure lid. I didn't take time to read it and I failed to take a screenshot. But, if any of you have the Ninja foodi you should Google it. I have one in the MH I need to check.

We are going to see the movie Sarah's Oil this afternoon. Then maybe a stop at Whataburger, Garry likes the patty melt.

Hope everyone has a good week.
Lyn
