Good morning,
Pets are fed, dishwasher emptied, first cup of coffee downed. Now it's chat time!
Some thoughts occurred to me yesterday - and I've done this. Those of us who are looking to "rehome" clothing, dishes, decor items, even furniture - high school drama departments can use some things for costumes and stage settings. Also Community Theaters. And Food Banks often know of families who need clothing and household items. As do churches. Just some thoughts. I had several dressy dresses at one time and donated those to the school for girls who couldn't afford prom dresses. The school was kind enough to call me after the prom to tell me that 3 girls were able to go to the dance wearing those dresses. All better options than the dump.
LORI - good thing Wrigley was on the job to alert you to your dead CO monitor - you know - just in case you didn't hear the alarm. Good boy, Wrigley!!
MARY Q - didn't you say once that your kids just unlocked your door and let Zara in so she could spend the day with you? She would quickly learn to just lay down quietly until it's time to wake Sleeping Beauty with a slobbery kiss.
I was thinking of making my sisters bibs using half of a thin bath towel for each one, and adding neck ties, apron string style. Kind of a joke when I first got the idea, but as time has marched on, not such a funny joke anymore! Now I need one for myself! Love your Christmas quilt!
CHRISS - nice that you received a Wreaths Across America dinner. Enjoy that! When Lee & Lara lived in D.C. they volunteered to lay those wreaths. A moving and worthwhile experience. Just as an FYI, we priced having our 2 loveseats recovered. They are a simple, basic style - $8,000. And that was 5 years ago. Our new full length couch and 4 recliners (upstairs and downstairs) all together cost less than that (on Labor Day sale). I'm not surprised you tire easily. I'm sure they told you it could take many months, even a year, to regain your former level of energy. When I had my hystie back in 1997, it turned into a kind of big surgery. It took 8 months before I felt myself again. And the older we get, the longer it takes to heal. I remember when Marilyn came to visit for Thanksgivingmas. How is she doing now?
LYN - glad the trail ride was such a success and your fun day with Amanda, shopping. Phone dictation does take a little practice, and if you speak too slowly it will print out punctuation instead of the symbol. But once you get the hang of it, it simplifies and saves much time. BTW, back to CO monitors - we do have them. Bill reminded me . .
VAL - Your week at home will go quickly. You will have lots to do plus I'm sure you'll be making many phone calls to DBIL checking on him and reminding him to take meds, etc.
JANA - excitement over. Sticker shock on the fancy Christmas lights got to Bill. Since the LED C-9's we got at Costco are still shining brightly, we're staying with them. They are paid for! But we still, hopefully, have the A-Team coming, just don't know when. Or really, even IF. They took a 2-week vacation in June. And Aut, as the director, has a lot of balls in the air managing two libraries and all that staff, plus projects and events each library is holding. So we just are waiting to hear if they can make it work.
JUDI - I'm kind of hurt that I wasn't invited to Chriss's in your dream. After all, I live closer than any of the rest of you and I even know where she lives! I could have brought a coffee cake.
And a bummer about accidentally buying a second JA kit. Did you by any chance ask anyone at your guild the other night if they wanted to buy it off you before you pay to return it to Q? Glad you beat down the LC block. The other three will be a snap now!
LOIS - did you find lots of wonderous stuff on your shopping circuit yesterday? And yes, if A&A&A visit it will be a busy holiday, whether it's actually holiday time or not.
We're going to make it holiday time!
FLO - how long will your company be visiting?
Yesterday I cut out peppermint candy blocks. And sewed a few 6-block CW sections together, prepping them to add a few more "windows" at the connections sites. So much easier to work on these in smaller sections and then combine them into ever increasing larger portions of the quilt. I will soon (maybe in about 10 days) be halfway done. We hit Costco for a few items, then Kohl's for new pillowcases and bathroom rug. We treated ourselves to new flannel sheets a few days ago, and put them on the bed yesterday, but we needed pillowcases. Then we had 4 hours to rest, read, sew, before our HH friends came. What a great visit we had. L&L joined us, too.
Today - no plans at all! I hope to get my 6 candy blocks together, which means next up in the pattern booklet after them is Judi's 4 log cabin blocks. I'll also work on my CW's, and I got a big fat skein of yarn at Goodwill the other day. Just for practice. I want to see if I can resurrect my scant crochet skills. I haven't crocheted anything in over 30 years but lately it's been calling to me. Supper is going to be leftover sandwiches, eggs, olives, pickles, etc. Today is our last nice day. Tomorrow, temps drop into 60's and the rains return. I'm ready, but then again, I'm not. I love living on our deck.
Have a lovely Sunday!
