Post by grammiequilts » Fri Sep 26, 2025 4:09 am

Good morning,it is still sort of dark but is supposed to be a beautiful day, In nee to be redy to go and take my DDIL to the drs appt today, val is doing well for those of you who always ask, No miracles but a lot of progress.
I am still in a funk over the block. I set it aside to do a few of the other things on this quilt. Everytime i try to pick it up I end up doing it wrong at least on time...My new stategy is to label each piece again and try gain, I had to cut a couple of new pieces due to ripper mishaps ( I cut off my seam allowance) I think Im ok with fabric pieces...there seems to be enough, hoping to get this done as other projects await...
Hope you all have a great day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXooooooooooooooooooo

Good morning, Everyone!

JUDI - I'm sorry this block is giving you fits! I went and checked it out in my pattern. Oh. I see. Each round of logs has 'stones'! Two stones in fact, so little gold squares run diagonally through the blocks! Lots of room for trouble there. I've ever made a LC like that. If you run out of fabric, I'm hoping that I can share. I'm still on the stocking blocks - haven't even got them cut out yet. I plan to work on them today. I'm not looking forward to the LCs now! Glad to hear Val is doing well. She is so determined. She really is an inspiration to us all!

CHRISS - you sound like you are doing so well! How long does cardio PT go on? Did you say 6 weeks? Every day you are able to do more and more. Good to hear Moose isn't starving no matter what he's been telling Scottie. Scottie is absolutely certain he is on the brink of starvation at all times. We disagree with him, but he can't be convinced otherwise. Yes, daughter day was a great day. And yes, my toes match my fingers. It's taking me some time to get used to color on my nails. I keep thinking I've got something on my hands and try to wipe it off!

VAL - glad you will get to go home tomorrow, even if only for a week or two. I'm sure you've written out a schedule of meds, drinks, etc for Tony. You can only do what you can do. But when you return, bring extra projects to keep you busy. You just never know how things are going to go and you may end up staying longer than you first intend. Unless, of course, you aren't adverse to going out and buying new projects! ;)

LORI - you are making progress on the house. I hate to see useable furniture go to the dump. Though we have two loveseats and a recliner that may end up there. But not before we talk to some charities and the local food bank. We have seen, when we've been in CA, some folks just set stuff out on the curb and it disappears! But that's not a thing in WA. As for Christmas lights, October is optimal time for hanging Christmas lights. While the weather is still OK. Come Nov it's usually cold and wet, which means slippery ladders, frozen fingers, etc. And if you have a lot of 'light clients' you get started as soon as you can. We are tacky folks here. Our lights (LED C-9 multi-colored that follow our roofline) are up all year. My light-hanger is 77 years old and he doesn't need to be on the ladder hanging lights on a 2-story house. when the LED's die, we'll either go without or hire them. Signs advertising light-hanging people have been posted along our roads since mid-August.

IRISH - always glad to find you here! The big pick-ups can be fun to drive! I used to drive our old ones all the time, but our latest, BART (Big A$$ Red Truck), seems so much bigger than the others. He's a 1-ton Dodge single rear wheel. His mirrors always look to me like they are going to take out other vehicles parked along the street. At one point many years ago, my brother's vehicle died and at the time they couldn't afford a new or even used one, so my SIL had to drive their dump truck everywhere - church, grocery store, post office, etc. lol!

LOIS - thanks for the link for the scissors.

JANA - Every time I need a smile I think of The Three Little Kittens at Daniel's house. Just watching kittens play is better than any TV show. Did you finally get your uglies done? I hate to think of them taking up your valuable sewing time! I see Kimberbell has a new (to me, anyway) pattern out and the kit is on sale at Q today - 35% off. Enchanted Winter. Are you tempted??

LYN - how was the ride?? I wanna see those pictures! I hope all went well and the weather was purrfect and the aspens put on a brilliant display for you!

DIANE - I hope the next few weeks bring you relief from your 'bumpy spots'!

FLO - is the visit on now?

MARY Q - I know you were probably here somewhere yesterday but I think I missed you.

My walking neighbor, Lori, and I went thrift shopping yesterday. Only two stores but they were big ones. I found 3 little dresses and 3 little tee shirts. Halloween yoga pants for one of my daughters. Lara gets first choice since she's here. If they don't fit her, they go into Aut's box. I found jammie pants for my BIL, Dick, a shirt for Bill that I think he won't want, and a few small knicky knacky things. But my big score of the day - a really nice walker for $5!! I know I'll be needing one after surgery. And by the end of the second store I seriously considered using it to get to the car! After shopping I took Lori to lunch at a Chinese restaurant that was new to her. I'm not a fan of Chinese food, but I know she is so she was very happy. I got home about 2pm and sat for a while with the heating pad, and then watched our Seahawks win their game in the last 2 seconds! A very good day!!

Today's plan is NOTHING!. I'll work on my KTVC some, finish a book and find another, and maybe talk with the A-Team. Antonio texted last night and asked, if they were to come visit what would be the best dates? Woo Hoo!! Any dates would be great! So, just maybe..... we'll have some company soon! Fingers crossed, prayers said! As Chriss often says, it's good to be me! Now I need to start getting a toy box ready for 'visitors'! . . .

Have a Fantastic Friday, my Friends!

Good morning, up a bit earlier than I planned. The hips just wouldn't stay in bed any longer.

Judy I haven't gotten to those blocks yet so thanks for the heads up. I had started working on VC before my vacation that didn't happen and was watching the videos. Might watch some on my way home.

Chriss they say cardio rehab is very important. I think Dad went about 6 weeks and really liked it. They say it takes 21 days to develop a habit.

Maryz I have written everything out but it's not working. I remind him when I am here but he still doesn't take it. I am looking forward to being home and sleeping in my own bed, laying on my own couch, and all that wonderful stuff. Not looking forward to the driving back and forth. My current plan is to come back on October 4 and go home again on the 23rd. I will probably do a lot of back and forth over the next several months.

Sewed a bit yesterday on a Sunflower panel quilt. Will sew a bit more today but also need to do the chores before I leave.

Lori no rush to get things done. It will happen when it's supposed to.

Well my finger is tired. Have a wonderful day.

Good morning!

Hopefully a quiet, stay home day. The littles have a no school day, so that school running is not happening.

I have plans to sew. Yes, the new Kimberbell pattern is Enchanted Winter and the whole kit and accessory embellishment kit are already sitting on my island. I have 2, as one is Sarah's. I fell to temptation and pre-ordered it from My Girlfriend's Quiilt, a couple of months ago. It's really cute in person! My Girlfriend's Quiilt is home to Kimberbell. The instructions call for several different types of stabilizer that are up at the My Girlfriend's Quiilt shop in Logan, so we will take a drive up there to get what we need. That shop is great and very dangerous! Especially to the credit card! Probably next week, as snow season makes it difficult going through Sardine Canyon. Many years ago, we put a car on its roof in that canyon. Not fun!

Chriss - yes, cardio PT is three days a week. A hour each session. I know it well! Mr G's, got interrupted and had to start again. We even got the t-shirt as a graduation present! You will do great!

Well, time to scoot, I'm being slowly driven bananas this morning, by you know who.

Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning Girls

Yup, I was absent yesterday.... I started to type a post, stared at the screen for a few minutes, then decided I really didn't have anything wonderful to contribute to the conversation, so I got up and got busy.

Actually I was up at 0730 and showered/dressed right away as I was expecting an early visit from the plumbers to give me an estimate on the work in the kitchen. I mean, don't they all come super early? Nope, they didn't make it until 3pm which was fine! Now I just have to pick out the color of counter top--found a few samples I like and will go from there!

Judi... OH man, don't you hate that.. when the seam ripper eats up your seam allowance!! If you get desperate and run out of the right fabric... I've found that sometimes you can find the same fabric on Etsy. It worked out that way for my Christmas quilt I'm working on anyway.. I so hope for your sake that you don't have a problem!! Be sure save the salvage or the name of the fabric line so you can "google" it on Etsy if you need it!

Lois... Thanks for sending me the idea for the Dinner scarf!!! I made one yesterday and it turned out pretty good--super easy! I'm trying to decide all what to take to my little craft fair as I have limited space--I think I took too much last year and it got kind of crowded on my table. If nothing else, I can use up some of my boxes of fabric and take them to a local nursing home.

Maryz.... Have Bill Check out a "Buy Nothing" Group for your area on Facebook--You just never know who might be needing a couch/loveseat!! It's a great way to get rid of stuff. I'm sure with you in not wanting things to end up in the dump!! I take all my fabric/batting itty bitty pieces--the trimmings etc--up to the St Vincent store--it goes in a big truck and is recycled and St. V gets paid for it!! I took 3 big bags there yesterday! Even Viv sends her scrappy stuff up with Kris and I get rid of it! https://buynothingproject.org/ OH MY GOSH.. The A-Team is coming to visit!!!! Best news ever!!!!!

Valerie... You've been away from home for almost a month!! No wonder you will be anxious to get home!! I've heard that about cardio rehab too.... my brother did a lot after his aortic valve surgery too.

Jana... I googled the Enchanted Winter kit --- so cute!! If it's the one I found--blue with appliqued parts? I haven't done applique on my embroidery machine yet---too chicken to try!! I might have my friend Peg show you how!--she's done it!

Chriss... Have you been able to drive yourself to re-hab? Or does somebody give you a lift? Do you have your counter top picked out yet? What's your time line--I'm looking at early November before I get mine done! I'm so excited!!! Last project around here will be to get rid of the beige mini-blinds!!! Then I'm done with home improvement!!!

Lori... It certainly is quite a job to get rid of all that household stuff isn't it!! I know my kids are going to be swearing at me when I go to the great quilt shop in the sky for all the stuff they will have to get rid of---and all the funny things in little drawers and nooks & crannies of my house!!

I have Miss Zara for the weekend again---heck I'm almost tempted to keep her full time!! Since the kids are at college-she's alone all day. Though I do go over the kids house once in a while and let her out. She's fun to have around. The couple days I didn't have her, it felt "quiet" around here--I didn't realize how much I talk to her during the day when she's here! Not sure what Plan of The Day is here--I'm ready to put my Christmas Kit Quilt together and might do that this morning. Watched a tutorial on how to make a cool tote bag with a pocket so I might try making one today--just for well.... why not!! If you guys every like to do things other than quilts you have to check out "Christine's Home Affairs" on Youtube--so many cute little things you can make for gifts!

Guess what... .my coffee is cold so I think I'll go pour another cup, wash up last nights dishes and then get to sewing!!
Wishing you all of God's Blessings today and every day!

Good morning. It's going to be a beautiful day today. I have my rehab this morning, then will do a bit of grocery shopping. Having rehab three times a week sure fills up the calendar

Laundry either today or tomorrow. and maybe some light housework. I'm leery of doing anything until after my chest xray and surgeon visit. I know my sternum is healing but I really don't want to screw it up. I see the surgeon on the 30th.

Judi, sorry about the block. I guess the pattern testers missed some important steps. So glad Val is making progress. I love the way she just goes and tackles whatever comes her way.

Lois, how many quilts are waiting to be quilted? sounds like you will be a busy girl.

Maryz, glad you found treasures at the thrift stores. I never even went to look yesterday but after rehab I may go look today. I am not a huge Chinese food fan. My go to is almond chicken. That Antonio sure asks silly questions. Like you, I'd clear the calendar for a grandkid visit. Cardio rehab is 30 sessions, three days a week. After today I will have 28 to go.

Valerie, I'm pretty excited about cardio rehab. It's going to get me off my butt and show me what I can do. I'm being overly cautious and know I need to move more and push myself a bit. but I'm also chicken. In the rehab setting I will have to push it, it will be so good for me. I guess some things you just can't make happen. If BIL isn't taking his meds or drinking enough water, sometimes there is nothing you can do. Hope things improve for him. Once you get to Cali tomorrow it will be like the horses who smell the water. DH will ask if you want to stop to eat and you will say no, just get me home.

Jana, I guess if you are going to fall into temptation that quilt stuff is the best kind of temptation. I am really excited about cardio rehab. I think it will be a huge help for me.

Maryq, having a dog around is really wonderful. I talk to Moose all the time. He's a pain when I need to go somewhere and have to either have him wait outside or take him for a walk so he can be inside, but I can't imagine not having a dog. He keeps me moving. I wish I was soon to be done with home improvement. I have a chunk of money coming from a class action settlement from my old employer. It will be used to put new windows in this house. After that things will slow down. I'd like to redo the bathrooms, and have new flooring put in, but those are future projects. I've ordered my counters and they are saying 4-6 weeks. Sure wish I had a magic wand. What will you replace those blinds with.? I'm thinking of a valance and some kind of blind or shades. The sun just blares in those windows as it goes down.

I think dinner will be tri tip and heaven knows what. Maybe I will pick up a potato while grocery shopping and make kind of a loaded potato with tri tip. I seem to be able to add a few carbs here and there and maintain my weight. But, according to the charts I need to lose 10 pounds to have my BMI in the right spot. Perhaps cardio rehab will help with that.

Time to start my day, hope yours is the best ever
Chriss

Maryq, It's funny how I think I'm making progress, but there is so much stuff it doesn't look like I even touched it. Dogs and cats are wonderful listeners.

Chriss, PT will be good for you. They'll guide you in the right direction of what you can and cannot do. I need to buy steak and potatoes for a dinner soon. That sounds really good.

Jana, that Kimberbell is on sale today at QIAD. It's a cute one.

Valerie, typing on the phone is no fun. I bet you are ready to sleep in your own bed.

Maryz, I had throwing things in the dump as well. Yes, a lot of people put things out and they are gone the next morning. We can do that here year round because we don't get much rain. I might put things at the curb on trash day and see if someone takes them.

Judi, moving on to another block sounds like a good plan. I have a quilt that I think I made 3 times because of all the ripping out I did.

Lyn, How was the ride?

The other day I was going through a box of stuff that was in the garage. It was mostly used gift bags and wrapping paper. In between a few items was a little fake spider. We like to put them in different places around the house to try and scare each other. I laughed. Mom still doing funny things. I cut out the first 2 blocks in the KTVC last night. I'll get those sewn up today. Not much else going on. Autumn has decide to show up and our weather is on the cool side. I'll take it over the 90+.

Have a lovely day.

Another nice day on the Mtn.

Yesterday's trail ride was wonderful! The Aspen are turning and the mountains are beautiful. I will get some photos posted at some point. Sadly I didn't get one with the 4 of us together on the horses or off. Kaylyn had 4 other people, 2 couples, on the ride with us, so she was all business.

I post from my phone 95% of the time. If I posted from my laptop at the desk, Minnie would be upset with me. We sit in the recliner as I post and drink coffee.

Must run. Amanda and I are probably going down the Mtn to shop and I'm not sure what else.

Lori, great spider story. what fun. We had a fake bug that Marilyn got in a gumball machine. The three of us hid that silly thing all over. It was hard to wait till someone found it. We had fun, great memory and I am glad your mom is still up to her old sneakiness. what a smile maker.

Lyn, I am glad you had a good time with the girls. It sounds like a beautiful ride. Stay out of trouble as you girls go down the mountain today.

I am loving rehab. I'm not over doing it but am pushing myself a bit. It's an hour on different machines then a half hour class. Today was all about blood pressure and the things that raise and lower it.

Well, off to think about baking an unpoked potato and heating up leftover tri tip. You girls have a great night.
