Happy Sunday morning!!

JANA - happy anniversary! How was the party! I hope the memories keep you smiling for years to come! How many folks attended, aside from your own family - because they are a pretty big party all by themselves! I'm guessing it was lots of fun, food, family, friends, and frivolity. Make sure you share some photos with us! We all wanna see!!

DIANE - I'm so happy you found your quilt! Whew! That didn't take long, did it! I'm glad you like it. Every time you and your hubby use your quilts, know that you are being thought of and prayed for. But the good news is, I bet by now we have all checked our member profiles to make sure we have our correct info there. I know I have! I PM'd you my phone #. If you send me photos I can post them for you. I use Post Image and post from my phone.

LYN - thank you for finding VAL's post and reposting it in the thread for the 16th. You have a busy day today, packing up. I pray all goes well with your travels tomorrow. Between St. Christopher and your angels, all will be well, I'm sure! We're getting closer to meeting in Texas!

JUDI - Happy birthday to little Navy! You are busy prepping your blocks and I'm busy prepping my blocks. We're going to have happy, relaxing trips! Is Ken over his cold now? I hope he didn't share it with you! Is your Vintage Christmas kit tempting you yet? I've been looking at my booklet but I still have the fabrics in their box. I collect those zippered plastic bags that curtains, sheets, pillowcases, etc come in. I have lots of various sizes. I use those to pack my projects in - they can fit in cupboards, nooks, and crannies in the trailer where totes can't go. I'm going to pack those fabrics and pattern book in one of those today. Though I'm not quite ready to actually put it into the trailer yet. You never know when I might need it in the house in the next 4 weeks. . . . :D Nice that your son is helping out in the yard. We're having our supper club here Aug 28th. We'll be eating outside on the patio next to our (cold - fireban on) firepit. So I'll be needing to get some yard work done out there by then. My little gardener guy won't be back before then and Bill doesn't do yard work. And neither do Lee or Lara. So guess it will be up to me. Mostly it's a matter of raking up the leaves that have been falling already. I'm afraid if I get down on my knees to weed, I won't be able to get up again so I'll drag along a 5-gal bucket for support.

FLO - Did Joe and your son make it home OK? Now what happens? I bet your DIL is happy to have him home!

CHRISS - things are moving along quickly. Did the doctors say if your heart was damaged in some way - injury, virus, etc, or if you were born with a faulty valve? I'm glad Dad will be checking in on Moose. He is going to be pretty confused. I'm glad to see you are taking doctor's orders to heart. (you've probably noticed here on this forum full of retired nurses that you can take the nurse out of nursing but you can't take the nursing out of the nurse.)

MARY Q - did you enjoy your rain? We had a full day of rain. The house was so gloomy I had to turn on lights. It was great!!! I could have stood another day or two of it. Bill has some ideas on what is wrong with my 'puter and how he might be able to repair it. He wants it as soon as I finish this post. And he is a solid HP fan, so if I need a new one, that's what he'll be getting. And he usually buys from Costco because they give you some extras - one of the biggies is 2 yrs warranty instead of just one.

VAL - know that if you go looking for Cathedral Windows patterns, there are lots of them out there. And they all can have different finished looks. I 've seen some where, instead of white, they used red or black or some other color. Some are all by hand, some all by machine. Mine are a combo. Judi and I used the same method to prepare our whites (she taught me!), yet from there our patterns diverged and our quilts have a totally different look. MSQC's pattern uses 5" charms and is all by machine and looks different still. And all are beautiful! So much to choose from!

IRISH - if you were to happen to pop in today - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I sent you birthday wishes via a text.

I talked to Tina yesterday. They were taking Jazmyne off to college in Cruces and also celebrating a grandson's birthday. She is still working, trying to pay off bills that mounted up. Turns out it's expensive having a teenager live with you! But did say she hopes to get back to her sewing and to our forum someday soon.

Yesterday flitted right by me. I got some more "windows" prepped, and then Bill and I held a lengthy conference on the tailgate of our pick-up. The kids gave him a Blackstone Grill and he wants to build a plywood box into the back of the truck to haul it in. So we discussed at length the design of said box. He can make it large enough to include our propane firepit, too, which will free up space in the trailer storage bin. So off to Home Depot he went. Meanwhile, I cut about 200 2-1/2" squares for my CW's, and 60 more 9" white squares. I prepped supper (leftover frozen beef burgandy) and then, by 2:30 plopped myself down on the deck with a book. I have my Vintage Christmas kit and spent some time looking over those directions and fondling the fabrics. A pretty relaxing day, all in all. Tonite's supper is going to be frozen perogies with alfredo sauce and a salad.

Have a blessed Sunday!

Only 57°, sunny and breezy. I hope it warms up as I'm packing up.

I posted Diane's photo over in Quilt Photos. I know we're all happy that she found her comfort quilt.

I didn't get as much done as I wanted yesterday, visiting and starting to say goodbye got in the way.

Today I will try and get finished with packing early, so this afternoon can be for visiting.

Hope your day goes well.

Good morning, long day yesterday. Gathering items for the trip. Went to get new sheets for the bed to put on for house sitter. Then stopped by the mattress shop as the twin mattress on Dad's old bed is hard as a rock and since I am not sure if our room is really big enough for house sitter (he has an oxygen concentrator and CPAP at night). Rooms are very small and we have to turn sideways to walk between the bed and the dressers. We did find a nice mattress but then DH decided we really needed a new one too, (ours is probably 20 yrs or more old) so purchased that and a new base. That actually took a couple of hours in making decisions and the poor sales person was there alone. Saturday morning lots of traffic in the store. Who would have thought. But he did a great job. Then we went home to clear out the old mattresses etc (thank God we have an RV) Waiting for the delivery coming anytime after 8:30 AM. Now I have a mess until the new stuff gets here and I can put stuff back. Then we went to dinner and the sporting goods store. Got a new cooler for the back of the truck and a smaller one for inside the truck. Funny how I am assuming we will get the truck back one day! Also getting the bedding all washed up. We have new sheets also so the old ones will likely go to second hand store.

Chriss make sure the doctor is okay with you using the walker. Some surgeons are okay with it and some are not. The list of sternal precautions goes on and on and on. You insurance will approve the hospital stay. Don't fret that. Nobody goes home same day after open heart. Too many risks of complications.

Judi Happy Birthday Navy! Sounds like a nice quilt you have going there. DH is still talking to DS about us moving to South Dakota. I really can't see myself doing that but who knows. I will remind DS that he will likely not have many trips to Napa (where he grew up) if we move there. That will get him. He loves Napa and enjoys going to see his old friends when he comes home. Also my parents and grandparents are buried here along with an Aunt who really is not a blood relative but should have been.

Jana hope your party was everything you wanted it to be. Happy Anniversary and hoping there are many more.

Diane I'll tell you what, that was pure luck (well maybe a bit of God intervention) for you to have found that quilt. I think i would have been in tears.

Okay I am back, went to change the laundry loads, last load in the dryer.

Lyn I guess you are on the road, traveling mercies being sent your way.

Maryz I have a few projects packed in those bags. They really are nice for that. Sure wish I could help with that yard work but alas, back and knee are already screaming at me after yesterday. I think I will look around online today for a pattern as I need to rest the body today when possible. I will have to remake all the beds but that is only have to do. Can you share the name of the pattern you two are using?

Irish HAPPY BIRTHDAY! what are you up too today?

Tina if you see this, sure can't believe Jazmyne is off to college. What will she be studying?

Maryq counting the days and adding to my shopping list. Starting to get excited as I think this trip might actually happen. DH is sure the truck will come back to us this week. Then just need to get the camper shell on and buy some eatables for the truck.

Well best get this load of laundry folded before delivery gets here. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Good morning!

We had a great time, that is except for Mother Nature.,

OK, there's a backstory. On the original wedding, our reception was outdoors, in Mr G's parent's yard in Concord. Concord gets hot and it never rains in California! So we timed the reception to be a 7 pm, so it would be cooler. Mr G's parent's had a large open concept home. So Mother Nature had other ideas. The wind blew fiercely and it rained! Now to yesterday. Herriman does get hot too, and the kids wanted a dinner so we were set to serve at 6:30. So last minute decorations were being put on the tables, flowers pictures etc, and a huge squall line came in! Super high winds, gusting at around 50 mph. Blew the flowers and vases off the tables and all over the yard. Squapls may last a few minutes, so we were holding out hope for that. Nope, it continued and then the rain started. By the buckets! So I called a audible and we moved the party inside! My big boys, grabbed the furniture, recliners, sofa, end tables lamps etc and put them downstairs in my Batt Cave. We brought in all the chairs, now quite wet and set up the food buffet in my dining area, to serve and ate in the great room and my front room. We pulled it off, not quite as planned, but we had lots of fun. Mr G says it wasn't just a squall, but a huge full blown thunderstorm!

Crenda made a family photo board . Fairy lights strung on the board, with string and mini clothes pins that held family snapshots . We clipped a hundred or more to the two boards. Each board was a 4x8 sheet of plywood, covered in black fabric. Well the wind kept blowing the pictures off and the grands chased them down. Tanner and Logan carried those boards in the house and struggled against the wind. The boards acted like a huge sail! Thank goodness they are big strong boys!

The food was delicious and Aaron nailed the brisket to perfection! The buffet was a hit with how you did your choices. Everyone had a bit of all of it. We do have a bunch of leftovers. A few no shows, but still lots of friends.

Lots of good visits and good memories.

So like the first reception, the second was just the same, lots of fun! As to pictures, there were a few candids, but I haven't seen any. That to was like the first reception, we have no pictures then too..

Our kids bought us a beautiful gift. There's a company that makes figurines, named Willow. They are usually people, families etc. So I have a figurine set for each of my kids and their families. Each of the individual figures represent each of them. Karlie's is holding a kitty, Gracie is dancing, so if you know them, you can figure out who's who. It's beautiful, even one for Mr G and me. This Willow company makes a big nativity set as well. So now I will rearrange my curio cabinet and put these in there. Sarah even found a small orange kitty, like our first kitty, Ginger and included that. Ginger lived to be 20 years old.

So there are a few highlights. Church is in awhile. A Missionary farewell. One of our young men is leaving to serve, somewhere, I can't remember exactly where. So he speaks and some of his family. Easy favorite hymns of the missionary choosing . So I've got this!

Have no idea how I'm going to feed Mr G breakfast, there's a ton of clean serving pieces all over my kitchen! Big chaffing pans, etc. Sarah will be here this afternoon to pack all this away. Good thing I scrubbed the house clean! Mothers know best!

Hugs,
Jana

Starting to count to the next party, 75 years and y'all know the weather for that day, Rain, in buckets!

Good Morning Girls

YEAH, it's cooled down here!! Not much in the way of sunshine here this morning, but it's wonderful to open up the windows again--Had them open most of the day yesterday until it got up to 80 something in the house

Judi... How fun... a little girl birthday party! At one time, didn't one of your sons live there with you? I miss a lot of things from having my old house, but yard work is NOT one of them!!

Maryz... The rain for delightful, but it stopped about noon and proceeded to warm up to a very muggy afternoon. I have to say, if I had bought my own computer, I would have gone with an HP as well. I had an HP printer for years and years with nary a problem, unless it got too expensive to buy the ink cartridges--hence switching to the Epson with Ink in bottles! I think of Tina quite often and may text her myself to check in. have you used your Blackstone grill much? Do you have any of the accessory pieces? Shawn uses his all the time--even makes pancakes on it!

Lyn.... Thanks for Posting Diane's quilt!!! It was one of the first things I noticed when I logged on this morning! You are getting ready to head south? I'm guessing it's kind of a toss up as to whether you will get back up to Canada next year, so goodbyes might even more difficult. Sure would be fun if I could catch up with you on your way through Minnesota! :D

Chriss... My Microsoft Surface laptop has a very big tough pad too... so I turned it "off" and added a wireless mouse instead! It's really easy and wireless mouses are pretty inexpensive. My thumb kept hitting the touch pad as I typed and messed up everything! Yes, the boys did get the Fan up and it's so pretty. Even has an App for the phone so I can turn the light on or the fan on when I'm not even home! I'll have to text you a photo. Kris gets a lot of things from Wayfair (most made in China as just about everything is) so she ordered it for me. Waiting is the worst!!! I hope they can get you scanned, read and scheduled ASAP! I'm sure you are anxious to get it all over with!

Flo.... How is your son this morning? Did he and Joe make it home okay?

Val.... I'm kind of counting the days too!! Oh what fun!! Closer to the day, as you approach your nephews, we'll keep in touch. The biggest thing to watch for around here is road construction! Especially the closer you get to my area! I'm an easy "off" from I-94 near Albertville. If you see "Albertville Outlet Mall" that's the exit to take! Have you googled my address yet?

Jana.... OH my goodness... What an eventful day!! Sorry you were rained out but oh what memories! I've seen those Willow figures and actually have one myself--of two sisters given to me by my sister! What fun stories you will have to tell about this party and all the fun trying to get furniture inside and the wonderful food and the great family event!!

Am running a little behind this morning, tho I am showered and dressed. Now that the fan is up and that task is done, I need actually do a little light housekeeping! Definitely need to run the vac and Zara was here and I see little remnants of her hair left behind. At least there are no dishes to wash as I've had dinner at the kids for the last couple nights. Bren is an excellent cook! No big deal. I love that mutt!  She's going to stay with me while the kids head to college.

Wishing you all a most Wonderful Sunday

Good morning. It's going to be a great day today. I have no plans and am just piddling around here. I'm not cleaning or moving anything or doing anything I shouldn't be doing. I am behaving. I am not even going anywhere. I have no plans.

I've really cut down on my coffee drinking. I used to fill my Mr. Coffee pot somewhere between 8-10 cups, then went to 6. I'm pretty sure I could get a 4 cup coffee maker and it would be good. Although the cost of coffee might make me quit altogether.

Judi, I just love to watch little kids open presents, they are so excited, they shreik, it's the best ever. Have cake for me and give Navy an extra squeeze when you snuggle her.

Maryz, thank for the Tina report. I was going to text her yesterday. Good to know she is catching up and that all is well. Those Blackstone grills are pretty popular here too. Hope your plan to put it in the pickup bed works perfectly. We didn't get any rain but this morning I smelled moisture in the air and the horses across the street, or perhaps the ones behind me. Between the moisture and the horses it was a great scent, but it's gone now, which is also great. Things are moving along for me but I am also moving them along. I'm not waiting. I want this to happen, and I want to start healing. I have plenty of people to check on Moose, he will be fine, and he will be better when I get home.

Lyn, I bet it's fun to see old friends as you travel and a little difficult to say good bye. Have an uneventful trip home.

Valerie, glad you have a house sitter. New mattresses are great. hope you get a great nights sleep from here on out. Is there any updates on your truck? Have you chosen your route? I'm getting excited and want everything to fall into place for you. I know the insurance will approve the extra days. And my OCD says that if I assume without clarifying I am letting them be in control rather than letting them know I know. Silly but it's what I do. I asked AI about sternal precautions, lots to think about, thanks for letting me know.

Jana, I smiled when I read about your wedding and then anniversary and the weather. You sure know how to make memories. wow, what fun. As for Mr. G's breakfast, run him though a drivethrough and worry about clean up after church. Love that the kids thought of the willow figurines, that really is the perfect gift.

Maryq, I'm sort of hoping that after my cat scan they wheel me into the operating room. I'll be sure and not eat until after the scan. But they probably won't do it my way. Nice the kids have you to granddog sit. Do you think of getting a dog for yourself? Nice to have that fan up and whirling. I use a ceiling fn and oscillating fan in my bedroom each night, both need a cleaning but I am not climbing up a ladder to clean the fan blades, and I don't have one of those brushes so they can just stay dirty for a while.

Guess that's it for me. Dinner last night was zucchini rounds (too lazy to spiral them into noodles) with spaghetti sauce on top and Mozzerella cheese baked, It was ok, I will finish it off tonight. Tomorrow I have my cat scan and will hit the grocery store when I am done there.

You all have a super day,
chriss

It's me again, Margaret -
Remember the song by Ray Stevens who also sang Mississippi Squirrel? Love his music!

MQ - yes, we use the Blackstone Grill almost every evening and yes, Bill has gotten himself some things to go along with. We've even heated things on it in a pan - like chili, sauces, etc.

VAL - you asked about CW's. You can Google Cathedral Window tutorials and find many. Most start out the same way to make the white pods. (note: you don't have to use white for this. I've seen red and black and they are striking.) But check out the tutorials and then if you have questions, I'm learning some answers. MSQC has an interesting method, different from all the others. It's very pretty, too, but requires batting, backing, and binding. Judi's and mine don't. And yet, Judi and I are doing ours each a little differently.

VAL again - you are buying new mattresses? So, here, when we bought new ones, they swapped them out on the beds and carried away the old ones. Some places charge for this service but most don't. Ours didn't, but we did tip the delivery guys. I buy old sheets at thrift stores and use them to cover our long arm and the 11-foot frame when it's not in use. I also cut them into 4" strips and baste them to quit tops before quilting. Gives a place for the side clamps to clamp on, and also test tensions, stitch length, etc so we don't have to do that on the actual quilt. A professional quilter taught us this. And extra step, but has proved it's worth over and over. I do have to remove the scrap borders after quilting, and then I iron and fold them to reuse again.

JANA - sorry it rained on your parade, but maybe that was OK. I know you are into tradition, and it rained on your original reception - so tradition kept intact!

CHRISS - waiting is the hardest! You are wise to be your own best advocate, do research, and ask questions.

JUDI - you are at Navy's party. So sweet! I bet she loves cake! And presents!!

LYN - sorry you didn't get all your preparations made as planned, but then you got to visit with people you care about. Sounds like you've got your priorities straight! Where will you be tomorrow night?

LOIS - we've lost you again . . .

I've been prepping more white pods. They are tedious and since I need a grand total of 275, I need to take a lot of breaks. I put them together in sections of 6 for ease of handling when stitching down the colored squares. Then I'll start stitching the sections together. It's good TV work. I try to keep 1 or 2 sections ahead so I'm ready to go with my needle and thread come evening.

I think Bill was able to repair my computer. He's a good egg! And I'm glad he's my egg!

Now, back to my sewing room . . .

Maryz mattresses are delivered. We also got a new base for ours. All is set up and our bed is made. Just put something in my stomach and am watching Antiques Roadshow. I love that show. Have some dusting done, laundry done. After AR will make the bed in the back room. Yes the delivery guys took the old mattresses and the ones set of box springs. I washed the old sheets and will send them to second hand store. Went through another stack of paperwork and disposed of them accordingly.

Chriss glad you were able to get a headstart on those sternal precautions. Now you can practice and be real good at them but the time you have your surgery.

Back to my show, then the bed, then binding.

Have a great day

Maryz, I was just thinking about Tina this morning and then I saw you posted you had talked to her. I'm glad she's doing okay. Yay...Bill was able to fix the computer. He's a handy guy to have around.

Chriss, glad you are listening to the doctor about taking it easy. I don't think I will ever give up my coffee. I like it too much. Your zucchini dinner sounds interesting.

Maryq, I ran the vacuum as well to pick up more than a little dog hair. My big boys like to shed.

Jana, of course it poured. Glad you were ready with option B. I bet it was a fun evening. The food sounded amazing. My mom had several of those figurines. I put them on their mantel. Happy Anniversary!

Valerie, sounds like you are almost ready for your big trip. A new mattress is wonderful.

Lyn, visiting with friends is much more fun than getting things ready to go. I'm sure it will get done before you leave.

Judi, how was the party? Did Navy have a fun day? 3 is such a fun age.

I did house work the 1st part of the day. Laundry, vacuuming, dusting, changing the sheets. Then I finished up my "Witchy Manor." It's a cute little quilt. I got the backing for it yesterday, so I'll layer it and quilt it tomorrow. We had to turn on the A/C about an hour ago. It got a little too hot in the house and needed cooling down. We'll probably turn it off in a little bit as it is cooling down outside. Dinner will be lasagna. Here's a picture of the quilt top and the backing I picked out.
