Good morning, Everyone,

We're to be 90* today, but just for the one day. The forecast is to cool down and rain by Thursday. My thirsty yard is liking the sound of that!

Has anyone heard how Diane is? She had her surgery yesterday. She should have received her comfort quilt last week.

JUDI - oh, I never thought of backing for my Vintage Christmas. I wonder what I have in my Christmas stash. . . But since my kit isn't even here yet, I guess I won't worry about it. my plan is to take the kit to Texas for winter sewing and bring it home next spring to finish it. But I see many here had a similar plan but couldn't resist digging.in for just a few blocks. How are things going with Grizzy and Pepper? Is Pepper missing mom?

CHRISS - your doctor appointment is today - again. I've cleared my calendar and will be riding shotgun in spirit.💗 Sometimes when I'm in a sewing slump I just go into my sewing room and play with my toys - look through my patterns and books, watch videos and tutorials, pet my machines. Or plan a special project for a special person. And I think we both have very similar "special little people" to sew for. ;)

LORI - So sorry to hear about your friend's cancer dx. We are planning to leave Sept 13th (about 4-1/2 weeks - 2 months earlier than usual). All the Christmas stuff goes with us to my sisters and to Autumn's. It all has to be made or bought, wrapped, packed, and stowed. I have a staging area for all the boxes, totes, etc that have to be stowed in the trailer. What goes in first comes out last. I'll be with my sisters by Sept 16 so their Christmas stuff comes out first so everything has to be stowed in order. Your Halloween project is cute. Halloween sewing is fun sewing!

MARY Q - I don't collect machines (do I?) - I have a 15 yr old Bernina 430 "Stitch", a 7 yr old Bernina 480 "Chip", a Featherweight, a serger, and our 18 yr old Nolting Fun Quilter LA. My sister insists more than 3 of anything is a collection. When I see machines in thrift shops, I'm tempted! But so far resisting. I just don't need them. And no, Scottie doesn't wake me up at 0500 to go out. He wakes me at 0430 to feed him!! lol!

LYN - what's the SPOTD? (Sewing Project of the Day). The 18th is getting close. Or have you decided yet if you are upping anchor (oh wait - you already did that!) sooner than that?

VAL - it's possible that push for comfort donations was 4 years ago rather than 5. Time is a funny thing. Just trying to remember - I spent an entire Texas winter squaring blocks and making tops. And that was before Autumn was pregnant. And Amara is now almost 2-1/2 yrs old. Funny how we mark time by events in our lives. I'm so sorry to hear about your DGSs friend's cancer dx. It just shouldn't hit the young. You say you are backing and binding your current project and now casting about for another. Don't you have several "current" projects - WIPs - to work on? As far as you know is your trip still on? Any news on your truck? I haven't heard the term "double zigzag" either but do you think that would be an overlock stitch on your machine? I have an overlock and it looks like it could be called a double zig zag.

JANA - funny - I was thinking your JN is the quilt you should put out on display! Do it! Are you all ready for the party? Is the deck all finished now? Yard ready to go? Food bought or at least planned? Outfits ironed? House cleaned? Extra TP out? Sounds like it's all systems go!

FLO - glad to hear your DDIL is doing well after surgery.

Yesterday I had my first PT. Ahhhh..... I really like my therapist and we think we might even be related! We are both checking our family histories before my next visit. I have all the Christmas stuff taken care of but one last little thing. Well, two. Bill wants to get DBIL, Al, a special flashlight so he ordered it. When it comes, I'll wrap & pack it and that will be done. And when we get to CO, I need to buy a bottle of 'something' for the other DBIL, Dick. "Bottles" here in WA are just too expensive when they are so much cheaper in CO.

Today's plan is to maybe pull some fabrics to make a few kits for my quilting class at Aut's library. This year I'm going with a simpler, smaller project - a 21" table topper that takes a total of 4 fabrics - 1/2 yd print, 1/3 yd white (or light), 1/4 yd for binding, and 24" square for back ing, plus a 24" square of battingI I've also been looking again at Cathedral Windows videos. I'm trying to decide if I want to do it by hand or machine. MSQC's machine method looks easy and quick, but I've sort of been looking for something to keep my hands busy in the truck while we travel. So I'm leaning towards the hand method. And if I do that, then it's time to start prepping the blocks. Though I'm afraid of getting bogged down with another 12-yr project. It's a conundrum.

My brother, Gene, is having his prostate removed Sept 4th. It's been causing him a lot of problems, but thankfully none of them have been cancer. And also, their priest has finally agreed to marry him and my SIL, Terry (my other brother, Jim's, widow and who is technically a member of this forum). The hold up has been trying to find his baptismal certificate from our parish here in 1935. Not sure why that mattered so much. She has been in Alaska since last April. My sisters and I gave them their wedding gift already - gift certificates to 6 different restaurants in North Pole and Fairbanks.

I don't have any appointments today! Yay!! I can just stay home and putter around. A real treat these past few months! Supper tonite is going to be a chef's salad.

Over and out for now!

Good Morning I was up at 530 listening to Ken trying to be quiet as to not wake me or the dogs...HAHA we were all awake the dogs will not get out of the bed til I do. they lay there watching me, I played ( Lyn swallow your coffee) dead for about a half hour then finally got up. ken left and the dogs went out. they don't eat til 9 am that is their schedule here, They normally sleep with Liam at home and during the summer if nothing is planned he doesnt get up till 9 or 10 so the dogs are used to waiting, It works here too.
I stitched a few hexis to the waterwash quilt. Im not going to finish this any time soon, just need some hand work to do. I havent opened the Vintage Christmas yet, I watched a few videos and looked over the pattern, then I remembered I still have to make my first t shirt quilt too, I guess i should look at some videos on that,
In my closet I did find a piece of fusible stabelizer so I have to see if this is tshirt quilt usable.
Well I need to get myself presentable a friend is coming for coffee and I need to dust off a clean spot for us. Hope you all have a great day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning!

Stuck here at home today. Maybe not so bad, but my brain keeps thinking of things to do, away from the house. And the city with it's infinite wisdom, closed our street and it election day! The state changed some of the rules on mail in ballots, so ours need to go to a designated Dropbox, which we can't get to, so Sarah will take ours down to the box. She'll stop at the end of my street and come get them, on her way with Aaron to Costco for party food. To which, Aaron will smoke a pork butt, some brisket. Sarah is making our family recipe potato salad, Crenda is doing her fabulous baked beans, Matt is smoking the chicken and I don't know who is doing coleslaw. Sarah is also picking up chips and salsa. And the rest of the fixins for the tacos. A really good Mexican restaurant is doing the taco shells. Dessert is a bunch of finger type desserts from a local bakery. Sarah has some young women in her Ward that will keep the food stocked and help serve. We're paying them

Daniel worked 9n the electrical part of the deck last night. I have the Edison string of lights for the top area and he is lighting each stair tread with a LED strip light, tucked up and under the tread. Ethan and Tanner are weed wracking this morning. Down to bare dirt, in a garden bed and the gathering area, ie, the fire pit. Sarah picked up some cheap black fabric to hide the under area of the deck, that's not finished yet. My deck is off the ground by about 5 feet, so that space will eventually have framed lath panels, that open to get at the storage area under the deck. Great place for extra deck chairs, etc.

Yes, the JN will get put out. Sarah is cutting back on dealing with her out-law family. The drama on that side would fill a reality TV show and no one would believe that it's really true! Suffice to say, living and being honest in all your doings, personal and business is a absolute necessity in life! You don't have to live looking over your shoulder.

Talked to our missionary yesterday. He's doing well. I'm gathering up neckties for him. Seems that it's a thing with missionaries to have a huge collection of neckties and trade the neckties with other missionaries. So I'm going through Mr G's stash to send to Andrew. He's enjoying speaking Spanish now.

So I'll get the rest of uglies done today. Thanks really not many to finish. Breakfast is 8n a bit.

Oh, I don't rescue sewing machines, but do have a collection. My big Pfaff with embroidery, another Pfaff, a feathweight, that's exactly the same age as I am, a serger, a treadle sewing machine and the machine that was my grandmother's, that was a treadle, that my grandfather electrified. That machine I did rescue, from my mother who tried to throw it away! In the trash. It's also the sewing machine I sewed my wedding dress on, 50 years ago. My grandmother sewed her first child's diapers on that same machine in 1900. And it was a previously owned machine then.

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning everyone, temps to drop at bit today. Expected to be around 78. A bit more tolerable. MAD Monday went well yesterday except the backing I had picked out was no where to be found. Who knows? I also got one "Sheep" block done. I am thinking of making 9 of them and putting them together with sashing and borders. I think that will make a nice "kid" block.

I am making progress on DGS and friends quilt. 16 blocks done, 20 to go. They go fairly quickly. It just gets warm in the room and then too warm to stay in there. I am working on that one at home and Friend's quilt at Open Sew which is Thursday. The friends quilt is guitars and it goes together a bit differently. The blocks are from a paneI. They have a black border which is on and the other blocks I am chain piecing. think I will stay for slow stitching Thursday evening to make progress on the binding for baby quilt. One of the knitters is going to loan me a book to take along on trip. It shows where quilt shops and yarn shops are across the US. I know it won't be completely up to date but that's okay. There is always "google". Starting to plan for next year projects starting with finishing up "Windsong". I also have two Halloween quilts to get done and one for the new baby. She is due on the 26th of this month. I will be pleased if I can get them all done.

Maryz is rain common up there this time of year? My yard is quite thirsty too but we have water it. No rain here until earliest October. I have the black with little red flowers for my backing for the Vintage Christmas. I will likely only work on it while I am at my Kansas Troubles group. Wondering is you should call and check on that quilt pattern? Possibly you could get from KT directly. September 13 we will be in Washington DC. (Just in case you are looking for me) I think you are confusing my MAD Monday quilts with my own quilts. MAD monday is twice a month and I only do charity quilts on those days. The other projects I mention are all separate from that. No news on the truck.

Chriss did you have your appointment?

Lori condolences on your friends cancer. It is definitely a difficult diagnosis to adjust too. We were all shocked to hear of Babba"s cancer. He was around 20 or so when it hit. So young.

Maryq I did not think I was collecting machines. I just thought I had too many. 9 and a Serger. Two Baby Locks and 7 Janome's. The serger is a Bernina.

Judi I am always up early. If I am not up by 5, I think I am dead. For years before I worked the night shift with hospice I aways worked days. So my body is used to up and at it.

Lois sorry to hear the Gout is flaring up. That can be quite painful. Hope it passes quickly.

Today I really want to get the fridge cleaned out and scrubbed. Plus sewing on the DGS quilt.

Hope you all have a marvelous day, may all your bobbins be full!

Good morning Girls
Looks like it's going to be a lovely day... not even getting up to 80 today so the windows can stay home and I can enjoy the light breeze! Might even take a cup of coffee out on the patio for a bit this morning--tho I won't be able to sit still for very long---looking around here at the things that need to be done! AAARRGH!!!

Maryz.....Prayers for Gene today and good news that the priest has agreed to go ahead with the ceremony--I'm mean serious.. he's worried about a baptismal certificate from 1935? If more than 3 is a collection--I guess I do have a collection of sewing machines. I'm contemplating selling the little Brother machines KC left behind as they really aren't all that wonderful in the first place. I think my Janome has a double zig-zag option but I don't think I've ever used it.

Judi.... Have you made a T-shirt quilt before? I've made two and swear I will never do another one. The first one was much harder as all the t-shirts were vastly different sizes. The 2nd was much easier,--same size shirts--but still----not doing it again!!!

Lois... Sorry to hear Bill is having trouble with his gout again. I've heard that's really painful! Have you been able to start your Mine Craft quilt? I've seen it on FB--Is it a gift for someone?

Jana... Sounds like things are all falling into place for your big party!! I too had my Grandmother's treadle machine--it's what I learned to sew on when I was oh about 14 or so. My Mom told me it had been a wedding present to her parents. I have no room here for it so my baby brother took it and has been kind of restoring it. Same Brother had my other Paternal Grandmothers Singer--maybe about 1960 vintage but he THREW IT IN THE GARBAGE!!!! I could have "choked" him   He did save the cabinet which I have and use. I also have my maternal Auntie's 1951 Singer in a Cabinet--tho It's kind of tucked away and I can't get it to use it--it does work.

Valerie.... Man, you have a lot of projects going on!  How do you keep them all straight? Some people collect salt and pepper shakers, some people collect sewing machines!

Lori...That's one machine I don't have is a Serger and have contemplated getting one--tho I'm not sure where I would put it my house. Katie has one and mentioned if she got a new one, she'd give me the old one. Do you use yours very often?

Chriss....Thanks for the craft fair Idea.. I couldn't figure out how to download that pattern from the link you sent me! I'm going to try another way --maybe from my computer rather than my phone!

Flo.... How is your DDIL doing this morning?

Speak of craft ideas.... I spent the WHOLE day yesterday cutting out aprons--about 14 I think and the 10 minute table runners--about 15 I think (I've lost count) so they are piled up and ready to sew as soon as I clear the deck of other things. Corinne and Nolan are coming over this afternoon to help me repair a very very large curtain that goes in Kevin's Golf shop! Maybe tomorrow I'll actually start sewing !!

Time to crank up the music, wash a few dishes (still no decision on what to do for dishwasher--kind of waiting for a Labor Day sale at HD)

Wishing you all a Terrific Tuesday

Good morning girlfriends. Hot, blah, blah, blah. Same story different day.

This heat (I imagine) and very slight breeze makes the leaves fall from the trees. It looks like it is raining oak leaves, kind of cool to see.

Yesterday I dusted and vacuumed. I pulled out the living room furniture to vacuum behind and under it. Moose has been storing his hair under my recliner. He hates the vacuum. He barks at it the whole time it runs. He chases after it and runs away from it. Kind of like a tug o war game.

I also sort of fixed my recliner. I need a new T-nut to do it properly. And I see a table I failed to dust I also cleaned up the spare room and am well on my way to making it an office of sorts. I will look for a filing cabinet so that I can get things more organized. I also have a trunk full of stuff ready to be donated.

I just need to mop and clean bathrooms and my house will be clean. That will have to wait until tomorrow.

Today is my cardio surgeon appointment. I'm ready, have studied up on three ways to replace my valve and like the J incision the best. Also studied on the types of valves, I like a cow valve over a mechanical valve. I've also studied about my surgeon and the hospital that he uses. I'm happy with everything so far, I have a list of questions and will see what his answers are. I haven't had any issues with my heart since my angiogram, Not sure if God will fix me before the surgery or fix me through the surgeon but I do know He has this and I am not worried or stressed over it.

Maryz, what kind of flashlight did Bill order. I have a flashlight that I love. Streamlight Survivor. Jerry used it as a volunteer fireman. That thing lets me shine it into a dark yard and see if something is out there. Dad uses it when he works here and knows the importance of putting it back where he found it. Jerry also knew the importance. Enjoy your all about you day. I think iced tea and a good book out on the deck sounds peaceful.

Judi, don't dogs just make you shake your head? they watch our every move. Moose keeps an eye on my feet in the kitchen because if something drops it will be near my feet. He lays in the living room as I type and if I move slightly he opens his eyes to see what I am doing. Enjoy your coffee date.

Lois, I also do a sort of shop hop when I can't find the fruit or veggies I want at the fruit stand. One place will have excellent produce until they don't, then you have to go to the next place. It's a crap shoot.

Jana, Andrew swapping ties reminded me of Marilyn swapping pins at Disneyland when she was young. Glad Andrew will have a lot of ties to swap. Sounds like yours will be the party of the decade. The food sounds marvelous. How many are going to be there. Is it a sit down dinner or fix and eat.

Valerie, I love when the fridge shelves and drawers are all clean and shiny. I got rid of some of my machines. I had 5 and if I saw one at a thrift store I bought it. When I moved my sewing room to the master bedroom and had to move those machines I felt like I had way too many. Now I have a Jazz 2 that I rarely use and my Singer that I love. Funny, I felt like I had too many machines but don't feel that way about my fabric.

Maryq, I'm thinking of waiting on a labor day sale too. The microwave I bought for over my stove is just way too big. I need to replace it and since I can't find the size I need I will go back to a range hood and when I remove the wall oven I will stick a microwave in that hole. Do you have your eye on a specific dishwasher?

After breakfast I will head into town, drop off my thrift store donation, so some thrift store shopping and stop by HD and Lowes to see if they have a discounted microwave for me. After the doctor I will stop by the parents and then head home. It will be a long day but I will sleep good tonight.

Dinner tonight might be a leftover bacon cheeseburger.
Have a faborific day.

Another day of windy and possible rain.

Chriss, Sending prayers that your appt goes well. Will Richard be on the phone to listen?

MaryZ, One of the things I was going to mention about the pattern, maybe it should note no stripes or one way prints.

Judi, Thanks for the warning, I had just taken a sip. Minnie lays under her blanket, hugged next to me until I get up. If I get up early, she moves up and lays against my pillow and I cover her up. She's in no hurry to go out or eat in the morning.

Lois, Sorry to hear that Bill has gout again. When a friend had gout, I remember him drinking alkaline water which was supposed to help.

Jana, Sounds like everything is coming together for the party. Just don't tell the street guys or they may decide to finish next week.

I am a machine collector cause I have more than 3. I have the Bernina that Garry's wife before me had. My Bernina 440QE and now the B570QE, also a Bernina serger. I have 6 Featherweights, one is a 222. I have the little toy machine I found at an antique store earlier this year, I hope to get it to work.

Yesterday didn't go as planned. Minnie wasn't feeling good, so some of my day was holding her and reading. When she decided she could sleep next to Garry in his recliner, I turned on the sewing machine. I decided to use my rulers and #72 foot for quilting the table topper sample. That became a learning curve and a call to the shop where I bought the machine. I had to make some adjustments on the presser foot cause it wasn't coming down close enough. The rulers are not Bernina brand and are not as thick. By the time I got it set up, it was time to walk and feed Minnie then get our dinner cooked.

The boat is ready but we'll pick it up tomorrow. Today we're going to lunch with friends. I will try sewing later.

Hope y'all have a good day.
Lyn

Ok, not sure if I should scream or cry. DH went to the dealer to check about the truck. I have decided they are incompetent and so is the insurance company. The insurance company sent the check several days ago but it went to the dealership next to the dodge dealership. It's the same corporation, but two separate dealerships. Now you would think a reputable company would take the check right next door or at least call the insurance company to find out what it's all about. They did not, nobody knows where the check is. So the dodge dealer has not ordered any parts. DH let me know, I told him to let them know under no circumstances Am I at all happy. He has gone to see if he can figure out where the check is. And what can be done about it? In the meantime, I told him to tell the Dodge dealer to order the parts today right now. I'll put it on my credit card if I have to And fight this out later. I also let him know. This is the last time we will take our truck to that.Dodge dealer. The first time we had a major repair it took a month. This time we do not have a month. And I told him that he better make sure they know that because if I have to, it won't be pretty. Bad word. Bad word, bad word!

Oh Val!

I'd be yelling too! Rental cars out of California are had toget to be able to take out of state. The rental car companies have rules as to which states you can take a rental too. We had a hard time getting a rental to travel to Utah, when we lived in Concord. We used Enterprise. And they were fussy about no farther than Utah. And no trucks were ever available for rental. Start looking now, for a backup plan.
