We're to be 90* today, but just for the one day. The forecast is to cool down and rain by Thursday. My thirsty yard is liking the sound of that!
Has anyone heard how Diane is? She had her surgery yesterday. She should have received her comfort quilt last week.
JUDI - oh, I never thought of backing for my Vintage Christmas. I wonder what I have in my Christmas stash. . . But since my kit isn't even here yet, I guess I won't worry about it. my plan is to take the kit to Texas for winter sewing and bring it home next spring to finish it. But I see many here had a similar plan but couldn't resist digging.in for just a few blocks.

CHRISS - your doctor appointment is today - again. I've cleared my calendar and will be riding shotgun in spirit.

LORI - So sorry to hear about your friend's cancer dx. We are planning to leave Sept 13th (about 4-1/2 weeks - 2 months earlier than usual). All the Christmas stuff goes with us to my sisters and to Autumn's. It all has to be made or bought, wrapped, packed, and stowed. I have a staging area for all the boxes, totes, etc that have to be stowed in the trailer. What goes in first comes out last. I'll be with my sisters by Sept 16 so their Christmas stuff comes out first so everything has to be stowed in order. Your Halloween project is cute. Halloween sewing is fun sewing!
MARY Q - I don't collect machines (do I?) - I have a 15 yr old Bernina 430 "Stitch", a 7 yr old Bernina 480 "Chip", a Featherweight, a serger, and our 18 yr old Nolting Fun Quilter LA. My sister insists more than 3 of anything is a collection. When I see machines in thrift shops, I'm tempted! But so far resisting. I just don't need them. And no, Scottie doesn't wake me up at 0500 to go out. He wakes me at 0430 to feed him!! lol!
LYN - what's the SPOTD? (Sewing Project of the Day). The 18th is getting close. Or have you decided yet if you are upping anchor (oh wait - you already did that!) sooner than that?
VAL - it's possible that push for comfort donations was 4 years ago rather than 5. Time is a funny thing. Just trying to remember - I spent an entire Texas winter squaring blocks and making tops. And that was before Autumn was pregnant. And Amara is now almost 2-1/2 yrs old. Funny how we mark time by events in our lives. I'm so sorry to hear about your DGSs friend's cancer dx. It just shouldn't hit the young. You say you are backing and binding your current project and now casting about for another. Don't you have several "current" projects - WIPs - to work on? As far as you know is your trip still on? Any news on your truck? I haven't heard the term "double zigzag" either but do you think that would be an overlock stitch on your machine? I have an overlock and it looks like it could be called a double zig zag.
JANA - funny - I was thinking your JN is the quilt you should put out on display! Do it! Are you all ready for the party? Is the deck all finished now? Yard ready to go? Food bought or at least planned? Outfits ironed? House cleaned? Extra TP out? Sounds like it's all systems go!
FLO - glad to hear your DDIL is doing well after surgery.
Yesterday I had my first PT. Ahhhh..... I really like my therapist and we think we might even be related! We are both checking our family histories before my next visit. I have all the Christmas stuff taken care of but one last little thing. Well, two. Bill wants to get DBIL, Al, a special flashlight so he ordered it. When it comes, I'll wrap & pack it and that will be done. And when we get to CO, I need to buy a bottle of 'something' for the other DBIL, Dick. "Bottles" here in WA are just too expensive when they are so much cheaper in CO.
Today's plan is to maybe pull some fabrics to make a few kits for my quilting class at Aut's library. This year I'm going with a simpler, smaller project - a 21" table topper that takes a total of 4 fabrics - 1/2 yd print, 1/3 yd white (or light), 1/4 yd for binding, and 24" square for back ing, plus a 24" square of battingI I've also been looking again at Cathedral Windows videos. I'm trying to decide if I want to do it by hand or machine. MSQC's machine method looks easy and quick, but I've sort of been looking for something to keep my hands busy in the truck while we travel. So I'm leaning towards the hand method. And if I do that, then it's time to start prepping the blocks. Though I'm afraid of getting bogged down with another 12-yr project. It's a conundrum.
My brother, Gene, is having his prostate removed Sept 4th. It's been causing him a lot of problems, but thankfully none of them have been cancer. And also, their priest has finally agreed to marry him and my SIL, Terry (my other brother, Jim's, widow and who is technically a member of this forum). The hold up has been trying to find his baptismal certificate from our parish here in 1935. Not sure why that mattered so much. She has been in Alaska since last April. My sisters and I gave them their wedding gift already - gift certificates to 6 different restaurants in North Pole and Fairbanks.
I don't have any appointments today! Yay!! I can just stay home and putter around. A real treat these past few months! Supper tonite is going to be a chef's salad.
Over and out for now!
