Wednesday, July 30th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Jul 30, 2025 5:59 am

Good morning,

It's 60* here this morning, going to 85* today. Lovely! I'm sitting out on the deck at 0500 typing this. But the air is different - starting to feel and sound like fall.

JUDI - is today the day America comes off the LA? When you bake bread do you knead it by hand or use a bread machine? My mom won blue ribbons for her breads, cakes, and pies. When all my older brothers were still home she baked 6 loaves a day. The boys (and all their high school pals!) knew they would be coming home to warm homemade bread spread with homemade butter. Yum! Mom always scraped a little cross on the bottom of each loaf with her bread knife and whispered a little prayer that it be tasty. And it always was. She bought her flour in 50# cloth sacks and when the flour was gone she made a dress from the flour sack.

JANA - we have those lights on our deck. Plus a10-foot "curtain" of light strings, 4" apart and hanging down about 10 feet. They flash in different designs or can be solid. We really like them. As for rainbows, who cares about the back! What I wanna know is which end has the pot of gold!

CAROL - so nice to have you join us! And with one of your famous recipes, too. I never think of making sloppy joes, but maybe I'll get them into the rotation soon. Thanks for that reminder! I used to make them all the time when I was a young mom.

MARY Q - what a nice charity you are supporting. One of your many good deeds! You got a $225 parking ticket! Yikes! That bites! How many pencil cases did you make this year?

CHRISS - Good news that your heart seems to be behaving the last few days. Maybe you fixed it with prayer! It happens. On your question list when you go to the doctor, please ask if you are one of those heart patients who should take antibiotics for dental procedures. My Roy even needed to take them for a cleaning. Many people don't realize the direct connection your teeth have to your heart. What did Dad do yesterday at your house? Great score on those jeans! Some days are diamonds at the thrift stores. Some days are stone. It's all about the fun of the hunt.

LYN - sorry the fishing has been slim and the store doesn't have turkey burger. But you always make sunshine out of your rain so the livin' seems to be good no matter.

LORI - Did you have a steak for your anniversary dinner? Our dinner was delish last night. It morphed into a pesto with the diced chicken, onions, peppers, garlic, basil, walnuts, olive oil, and parmesan over spaghetti noodles. I have the locking stitch on my Bernie B480. If there is a way to turn it off I haven't found it yet.

LOIS - Were you here yesterday and I just missed you? Are you still uber hot?

Yesterday I mostly just puttered around. I cut and sewed some pieces of my QOV for Lee. Then I pulled out all the stuff I've been collecting for the last 6 months to take to my sisters and to the A-Team, sorted it out, made lists, etc. Some is Christmas gifts, some is just stuff. Then I boxed it all up and stashed it back in a closet. Then I sewed some more. Finally, after making salads and prepping everything
for our supper, I just sat on the deck with a glass of ice water and my book. What a nice day!! Today I have chiropractor and later a doctor appt. My hips have been screaming at me the last 3 weeks or so. I can barely step up on the stairs. This all started about a week after my BP med was changed. Suddenly I thought to look up side effects of Losartan - muscle and joint pain. Dang! So I'll be talking to her today about that.

Supper tonite is going to be sloppy joes! Thanks to Carol for the idea! I've run it by the HOH (In the medical world this means Hard of Hearing, but Bill seems to think it means Head of Household. ) and he has OK'd it. I think I"ll make a sort of biggish pot so I can freeze some for quick future meals.

Have a wonderful Wedesday!

Good morning ladies. Have spent the last to days at the shop and will be spending the next two days there as well. My most recent charity quilt is done. Just need to wash the backing and make the binding. We then put it all together in a toes for the long armer. I will need to come up with a next project. I have also started DGS quilt and a Friends quilt. We have known him for probably 55 years. He will be house sitting for us when we are gone on our trip. He is a musician and I am making a quilt called Rhythm. https://quiltingbookspatternsandnotions ... ble-rhythm? DGS quilt is called Pirouette (sp) and is from a jelly roll pattern book. I have a bit of a list for packing but still much too do.

I heard from DBIL (Las Vegas) yesterday. Since he called and didn't text I had a feeling something was up. He went for his yearly CT scan to check his aneurysms and sure enough they (4) have grown and he is now in need of coiling. He heard from his doctor within a short time after the test so thinking it may be urgent. Not sure. They have been stable for several years so why they have suddenly grown, I am not sure. He did not say anything about the girlfriend (remember her?) so I am wondering if that is over. I said I would try to be there and he said it would be nice to have someone there? Sounds like maybe no more GF? But my trip is coming up and I have reservations made and now what? I am hoping this is either done soon, like next week or something or delayed until October. I would rather cancel my open sews as opposed to my trip!

Maryz I did buy some stabilizer for quilt labels and do plan to start making them. Oh and by the way, remember nurses on many occasions have to keep track of many patients, pills, etc at one time so it is in my nature. I am also very type A. Lean back and relax is not easy for me. Right now I am doing DGS at home and Friend quilt at the shop. Yeah for winning the parking ticket saga!

Maryq I may need some embroidery thread. It is 14.99 a spool here. That is quite pricey if you have to have a number of different colors. I will need to look into the ones you suggested. I will also check with the other shop. Oh I keep forgetting to ask, does the warehouse have batiks?

Carol good to see you. Hope you are doing well. Have you been sewing at all?

Jana I never thought about a backside to rainbow. Your theroy makes sense though. Here is AI's take on it:

No, a rainbow does not have a back side. Rainbows are not physical objects; they are optical illusions created by the interaction of sunlight and water droplets. Since they are not tangible, there's no "back" to turn around to see.

Uhm, is AI always right?

Chriss any new doctor words?

Judi the site is intermittant for me. Sometimes it loads great, other times I just don't have the time to wait for it.

Our weather has heated up some. Have had to use the AC the last two days. We had a tsunami warning but it didn't hit here. It sounds like Hawaii may have had some big waves. Up north Creasent City had some close to 4 feet but we are still here. Dry as a bone. I wish they would be more accurate in their predictions. My sister in Virginia was on the phone at just after 4 am my time. I guess she forgets about the 3 hours difference.

Well lots to do before I leave today so best get to getting. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

Hi Mary,
Glad I could give you a idea for dinner! Here is my recipe, just in case you want to compare with your recipe. By the way the chili sauce I use is not hot and is often found on the top shelf in the grocery stores.
Turkey Sloppy Joes
1 lb 99%Fat Ground Turkey
1/2 cup medium chopped onion
1/3 cup chopped celery stalk
1/3 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 can diced tomatoes including juice
1 14 oz can Tomato Sauce
1/3 cup “Homemade” Chili Sauce
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
½ teaspoon ground mustard
6 hamburger buns
Method
1. Cook ground turkey and onion in skillet over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown, drain. Stir in remaining ingredients except buns.
2. Cover and cook over low heat 10 to 15 minutes or just until vegetables are tender. Fill buns with mixture.

Hope you enjoy dinner!

Valerie - Yes, I am well and I am sewing several projects at once which is crazy! I am busy with Guild as well as I am Membership Co-Chair.

Good morning!

Rinse and repeat weather, just wish some of the rain in the surrounding area would make it here to the valley. We are dangerously dry.

Daniel got the barn red paint and is ready to do that. He picked up a couple vof fine grit sanding blocks and Karlie will help sand. It's just the final sanding before paint, nothing much. We ordered the stair lighting too and it was to be delivered on Sunday, but I got the notification it will be here today. And I didn't even request fast shipping! How nice., it doesn't hurt that Amazon shipping warehouse is just down the road in West Jordan, right next to the landfill.

The party - awhile ago, I told Sarah since no one of them or the grands were around to help with finishing or getting the junk out of the backyard, that we should just forget the party. Well, I was ignored and the party is still on. I am in the dark as they have kept the planning a secret. Daniel answered a few questions, but he stays out of hen cackling meetings, as he says! So all I know, is we're having a party on the 16th and we're to be there. The there is still here.

Poor Aaron gets called out , seems like all the time, on another fatal accident with a motorcycle. The rider, like the other ones, thought he could race around on the streets, doing between 80 - 100 mph. He crashed into a SUV and died from his injuries. The other driver is not hurt, but will have to live with the memory of this accident. Very selfish on the motorcycle rider. The rider had a go-pro camera on his helmet, so everything was recorded. Made this accident a quick resolution as to fault.

So another Batt Cave day. Costco run early this morning first. Not for the parking space, but for the electric shopping cart. They are used quite a bit, and the store only has 4 available.

I've been in the bread baking mood too. I make a yummy whole wheat, fluffy bread. Even grind my own flour from whole wheat kernels. One loaf is plenty. I need to freeze half of that! It doesn't take long, and my Kitchenaid mixer does the kneading and then I loaf it. After it doubles, in the pan, abo 30 minutes, it bakes. Total of about a hour. The house smells so good!

Well,, off to get the day under way,

Hugs,
Jana

Oh, the site here loaded up one two three, very quickly

Good Morning Girls

Looks like it might be a tad cooler today, so I've opened the windows and set the AC to come on if it gets up to 80* in the house! Definitely need some fresh air in here. Doesn't seem to be too humid this morning so that helps.

Maryz... So far I have stitched 88 pencil cases. I have more cut out and will stitch them later today and then call it good. I'll probably deliver tomorrow or Friday. I'm guessing some kids have their pencil cases from the last 2 years I've sewn them. Jen uses ground turkey all the time--can't say I'm a big fan, but in Sloppy Joes it sounds good. A little extra frozen Sloppy Joe sauce would be a good take-along in the camper. Have you ever put sliced cheese on your Joe! And/or added a slice of dill pickle? nummy! Sorry you have that nasty side effect of Losartan--come to think of it I ache all the time too!!! What the heck! But then the leg aches I get, I have had since I was a kid.

Valerie.... Does the warehouse have Batiks? Oh MY Gosh!!!! They have TONS of batiks--all 1/2 of bolt price so your net cost is about $8-9/yd TONs of gorgeous batiks... you better bring lots of money or credit cards with high limits!! Will send some prayers for your BIL that they can fix him soon. My Mom had a cranial aneurism in 1980... and lived another 29 years with a carotid artery flowing on only one side of her neck. She was a little miracle.

Carol... You've joined the "Several projects at the same time club" Welcome aboard!

Jana.... Don't you love the smell of bread baking!!! I so love scratch bread, but a little too much as I could eat 1/2 the loaf right out of the oven with butter and/peanut butter! I have to google up some recipes again to make regular sandwich bread, my last attempt was a disaster. I think Judi sent me a recipe I'll have to try too.

Chriss.... Ok, marking my calendar for next Tuesday for the cardio appointment!! Have you seen the new blinds they have that don't have brackets but the ends have hand screws that you tighten to fit the inside of the window casing? I'm thinking about replacing my blinds with something like that. I have the slat blinds and I hate them, but not a huge fan of the honeycomb ones either because you can't see through them. You have the best Dad ever!!!

Lyn... I'm headed to the Post office this morning to mail about 14 blocks off. They were super and I have more cut out I can sew up later if needed.

Judi... Do you use warm milk instead of warm water to activate the yeast? I might try baking again when I have one of the "what am I going to do today " days. I wish they could take the carbs out of flour! I did look at almond flour once and decided I wasn't paying $10/lb!!!

Lori.... Last night when I heard about the Tsunami, I checked the locations of all you California girls and was happy to see you are pretty far inland. Do you know if Laguna Beach got hit at all? My BFF has family in Hawaii and they were preparing to evacuate. I think your blocks are scheduled to arrive today! Once I get all the blocks I will sort them out and return ASAP!

Going to make a mad dash to the PO this morning and the bank. Saturday morning I've driving up to my DB Greg's place about an hour and 1/2 north of me for a little Hanson Family Picnic. Going to stay over night at a little motel close by. All of my siblings will be there --- we haven't been together for a couple years so this will be fun. Weather will be nice enough to sit outside and visit. We all like to brag about our Grand children and pass our phones around with the beautiful pictures.

Better get in gear -- will make the made dash and come home and finish pencil cases!!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday

Val Rhythm is a really cool quilt..I love that pattern,

Maryq yes warm milk instead of water,,,

Lori It is bad when you first start baking bread it is a novelty that you keep wanting more...But I have found that after baking my own bread for sometime its just like Jana I freeze half of it,,,Now it isnt as good after being frozen but we just use it as normal around here even when it is fresh baked,, i also make my own buns for hot dogs and hamburgers and they are so much better and NO ADDITIVES,,,and I think every ones gut feel better about that, I use the same recipe for the buns but I cover them with a towel to cool so they soften up ...
Carol welcome,,I love your "Joe " recipe but I will stick with ground sirloin,,,we dont do turkey here,,,and yes we add a slice of cheese and pickles too..
Maryz America is half bound as soon as i get off here I will try to finish it before guild.
I did bake 6 dozen CC cookies this morning the kids at the rink will be happy...My CC cookies arent pretty but they are yummy. I made the bed and straightened up the kitchen. I put a lot of the mess away in the sewing room. Still debating on the next thing to do...I still have a dozen CW to finish and some honeycomb block I can embroider,,,I think I will wait for fall weather to starrt the Christmas quilt...I am looking for videos that show the makings of the KTVintage Christmas quilt to look at but cannot rememebr where i saw them...Was this quilt a BOM somewhere?
Hope you all have a wonderful day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Maryq, we're 15 miles from the coast. We joke that one day we'll have beach front property because of a big earthquake. That's a lot of pencil cases. You must whip those up fast.

Jana, what a shame for the family of the person killed. Some people think they are invincible. Sorry Aaron has to deal with that. Not everyone has that ability to deal with trauma. Bill and I both did it a lot.

Carol, thanks for the recipe. Sounds like yo are keeping busy.

Valerie, sorry about your brother in law. Hope the time line doesn't interfere with your trip. Our weather is starting to heat up too. I think I might turn on the A/C at some point today.

Maryz, funny you're starting to feel like fall and we're just starting to get summer weather. I have the Bernina B570 QE and can change many of the settings. There are a lot of differences between the series models. The main reason I bought this machine was for the dual feed. It's really nice.

Judi, I think if I made my own bread I would gain a lot of weight. My dad used to make bread during the holidays and it was so yummy. He made sourdough start and kept in the fridge for years.

I already had my appt with the financial advisor. Later I go to SSA to sign up for my Medicare. I need to do a little cleaning this morning. Then tomorrow is a free day with no plans. Looking forward to that.
I don't know what's for dinner just yet, but I do need to go to Trader Joe's. I'll probably pick up something to make there.

Have a lovely day.

Good afternoon.

This morning it got warm quite early so I had to close up the house and turn on the A/C. I figured since the house was closed up I should go do some grocery shopping. I bought something I hadn't had in a very long time. Cottage Cheese. Oh my gosh, I had some peaches from the fruit stand and sliced them up with some cottage cheese. it was heavenly.

After I get done here I need to repackage some meat, cut up a pineapple and do dishes. I'm sure I will also find other tasks needing my attention.

Lori, wow, that is a lot of years to be married. Yes, the peaches this year are just amazing. I have been having one every single day. Judy did enjoy her outing. She loves getting her hair done, the man who does it went to school with her and my dad. He dotes on all the ladies, and they flirt back. Then on the way home she looks in the mirror in the visor and tells me how pretty she looks. It's a good day for her, and me. I saw your Laguna Beach pictures, really looks like a fun time. We are about 3 hours from the coast and also joke about having ocean front property one day. Hope the SSA appointment went well.

Maryz, I think a day relaxing with ice water and a book sounds wonderful. Hope there are better meds for you to take so your joints don't ache. Enjoy those sloppy Joes. I have hamburger that I will cook up tonight, but it will turn into a taco salad.

Valerie, I was wondering if the tsunami fizzled out or not. The news casters last night had actual news to report, it was quite interesting. No doctor news until Tuesday. I don't know if AL is always right but he gave me the same story he gave you. My dad calls AI AL, I think I am going to call him AL too. Sorry about
BIL, hope everything works out for him.

Jana, guess you just got to let the kids handle the party and do what they are going to do. sit back and let them take over. What ever it ends up being it will be a memory making event.

Maryq, what fun that all the siblings will be there. I sure hope that someone takes a picture so you can frame it. I just think it's so cool that you all get together for a picnic. I have seen those blinds with the screws on the sides. I just wonder if they would come undone. It's not a spring like a shower rod. They also have some blinds that you can pull down from the top or raise up from the bottom, not sure how thye work.

Judi, I am not a bread maker but did almost buy bread today, does that count? I have never ever seen an ugly chocolate chip cookie. Bet the kids at the rink never saw one either.

Someone sent me a package from a town 20 minutes past me, Mariposa. That package had to pass my house, and go to Sacramento to be processed, back to a town 30 miles before my house then to the post office about 2 miles past my house and it was just delivered to my mail box. Moose loves to go get the mail. He doesn't like that it takes me a second to put on my shoes, he wants to go now.

So, off I go to get the mail, tomorrow I go see my grandson, I'll see you when I get home.

Have a great night,
Chriss

Y'all joke about beachfront property, we do here too, just waiting for California to fall in! 😀
I'm technically on the Provo Lake level of the great ancient Lake Bonneville, and have the rocky shoreline too. So maybe I already have a waterfront lot. Waiting for the Lake to refill!
