Good morning!

Have no clue on what's outside, except a sky full of smoke! The wildfires in the southern part of the state has finally migrated north to us. Yucky!

This morning, Matt is bringing up the side by side and he and Mr G are heading out to ride some trails down in the delta area here. About 2 hours south of us. So while they are gone, Sarah and I will hit a LQS or two. My tote supplies will be delivered here today.

So not much else here. Sandee is doing great with the second eye. Daniel will get her car battery charging, so she can drive again. The car hasn't been driven in several months.

Off to get stuff ready for ol Grumpy,

Hugs and prayers,
Jana

Good morning and happy weekend!

FLO - happy new roof!

VAL - That is amazing about your nephew's heart story! So glad he survived!. And I bet he got an immediate medical discharge. God bless him! Odd they didn't find the problem during his military physical. You are really going to town on finishing your quilts! So sorry you have had all this dental trouble. And you didn't even whine a bit! You get a gold star on your forehead for bravery. And my wishes that your jaw feels better today. You would think something like pasta or bread would be classified as "soft". However, when chewing, it kind of forms a vacuum and can suck a temporary right out. I've lost temps 3 times that way. And I didn't realize until my dentist told me 2 weeks ago, that if you lose your temporary and don't put it back, things can shift in your mouth even in just a few days and your new crown might not fit. The moral of the story is - don't lose your temporary!

LYN - sorry the fishing didn't fill your net yesterday. On the plus side, though, you didn't have to eat fish!! :D :D I did look up walleye. They aren't an ugly fish at all. Rather handsome, actually.

JUDI - Yesterday I watched several videos and tutorials on cathedral windows. And I even tried a few. Grandson Alec is going to Japan for 10 days in October. I told him if he brings back any fabrics I will reimburse him for it and make him a quilt. I think a CW would be a great way to showcase any of those lovely Japanese fabrics. Have a great time with your sibs!

LORI - We order our threads right from Superior about every 18 months. We buy neutral colors in cones for piecing (white, beige, gray, black). I don't usually use other colors except when the stitching is going to show - like for applique. I have a lot of spools of Gutermann from Joann's for that, though I guess when they run out I'll be adding spools of colors to my Superior order. And we do have the black goldendoodle, Beatrice. She is like a puppy, only she's 6 years old. Very active, very friendly, thinks she's a lap dog. Today is the day we babysit her. I thought it was going to be yesterday, but I was wrong.

CHRISS - so, other than swelling, bruising, and soreness your arm is healing well?? You are the most positive person I know, Chriss!! I love you for that! Our Rite Aid is closing, too, and since Rite Aid bought our Bartell's a few years ago, it's closing, too. But I quit using Rite Aid years ago after they messed up 3 prescriptions in 2 months. CVS is moving into the Rite Aid store next month and that is where we get our scripts filled. It's going to be much more convenient for us - 2 miles away and next door to the UPS store where we get our mail delivered. Leftover steak on a baked potato, topped with grilled onions, sour cream, and cheese doesn't sound bad at all. My mom used to make tomato and onion salad with Italian dressing, too. Gene loved it. I was little and so since my big brother liked it so did I. I called it Gene's Salad.

LOIS - tell us about your poppy blocks for Texas.

MARY Q - you may not have made the hand towel, but you gave it to me. I keep meaning to make some more for myself, but just never get around to it. Have you been researching dishwashers so when Labor Day sales come along you will know what you want - IF you decide to go new? Our truck repairs are in progress. Not sure just how longer it will be but hopefully by the end of this week. Next week for sure. We're coming up on 8 months since our accident.

JANA - You described how I blanket stitch to a "T". I use the knee lift. I didn't use that for the first several years I had my machine, but decided to give it a try once, LOVED it, and kicked myself for not using it sooner! I don't have that automatic partial lift feature though. Sorry about the smoke. Do you know what caused the fires? Are they guys riding parts of the Piaute Trail? The best ATV trails in the country!! They will have a great, tiring day! Lucky them!

Yesterday Bill went to Tacoma to meet Lee at the Dodge dealer. As long as he was relatively close to the Sew & Vac where I take my machines, he took "Chip" along and left him for a spa treatment. And since Joann's closed, the Sew'n'Vac upped their fabric selection. Bill looked for and found a purrfect white with little stars for my QOV for Lee and bought 3 yards for me. And as for Lee & Lara's truck it was a software update. Already! They've only had this truck 6 weeks! But supposedly it was fixed and Lee was out of there in 2 hours. He didn't need Bill for a ride after all. Our friend, Bob, who trailered his motorcycle up from Oregon was gone most of the day visiting other friends. Beatrice went with him and rode in the sidecar, though she refuses to wear a helmet or goggles. I ran up to our little LQS, Sew Hip, and found the light blue I needed for the QOV so I'm now in business! But first, I need to finish quilting the baby clothes quilt. That will be today's plan.

As for supper last night - it turned into another dinner party! Friends called and thought they were invited so, of course, I said 'absolutely'! So we were 7 last night. 8 the night before. I sliced up the rest of the 2" thick steaks into 1/4" slices. I pulled a carne asada marinade recipe from the internet and let those slices sit marinate all day. It was delicious! We also had refried beans, salad, Mexican rice. Lara made margaritas, squeezing limes and oranges rather than using a ready made mix. Also very delicious but strong enough I knew to stick to just one. Tonite is Bob's last night here. We have leftovers, but I think something simple is in order, like grilled cheese and salad. It's Scotties 12th birthday today so he will get some special treats.

That's all for today! Time to roll by the coffeepot on my way to shower.

Have a great day!

Good Morning Girls

Going to be a hot one again today 88*--supposedly a "heat watch" for our area. Fine by me, I'm not going anywhere. First load of laundry is in the wash and it's most definitely chore day around here--floor and toilets need scrubbing and there's dishes in the sink and threads on the carpet! So that's my day!

Lois... Poppy blocks for Texas? Tell me more! I'm almost done with pencil cases and not that I don't have a zillion other projects lined up--I'm curious!

Judi.. We will be twins today---same projects going on at my house! Now you have me really craving Mexican food! There's a brand new Mexican restaurant up the road from me, I'm itching to try--along with everybody else in the area--so it's been pretty crazy busy. Guess I'll wait for it to calm down a bit!

Jana.... We are getting smoke here too a little bit--only ours is coming from Canada! How fun for Mr. G to get outside and ride the trails with Matt!!

Maryz... Haven't really been looking at DW's yet. Kind of waiting to hear what Tom suggests as he knows much more than I do about dishwashers. I'm not feeling too bad about it as I wash so few dishes--and I do have a pair of rubber gloves! As soon as I can find my knee lifter I'm going to try it. St. Anthony hasn't pointed me in the right direction yet. Crossing my fingers that your truck is ready soon!!

Chriss.... I started the school supply shopping trip tradition when Brennen started Kindergarten. He's now in his 2nd year of college and doesn't go along any more! And now that the kids are older--Evie in College, Corinne a Junior and Nolan in 8th grade--they don't need the supplies like they used to, but I like to take them out to lunch anyway. They all use computers so much more these days than when they will in elementary school. I may adopt a kid for the "project pencils" program I'm making the pencil cases for,... but we will see. How great you can get all those fresh veggies near you!!! Do you like cucumbers? I chop up those with the tomato-onion combo and maybe a little celery!! SO nummy and pretty much carb free!!!

Lori... Thank you so much for the zippers!!! I will put them to good use! I'm trying to use up a lot of my "scraps" for the pencil cases, but did find some really cute fabric in AK to make some. I think my neighbor Connie has a Memory craft in a cabinet in her house---I'd love to get my hands on it!!! She used to make square dancing costumes!! How was your day in the pool? We had an above ground pool when the kids were young--it was great on a hot day!!

Lyn... Hope you can catch some fish big enough to bring back with you!! Man, I love good walleye!!!

Valerie... Root canal? I had always heard they were the worst thing ever--then I had to have one and it turned out not quite so awful!! I had to have a tooth pulled a while back and I think that was way worse--I had much more pain!!! Tylenol just didn't cut it. Hope each day finds you feeling better and that you have something strong for pain! So excited to take you to the fabric warehouse!!! You will be amazed!!!

Time to swap out loads in the washer then do dishes and after that the floors and after that the dusting and after that vacuuming.. No sense taking a shower until I'm all done being sweaty! With luck I'll be able to hit the sewing room early afternoon!

Better get to it.. need to coffee up first!!

Have a Super Saturday!

Good morning beautiful ladies. My goodness it's been gorgeous weather. I just wish it would stay like this forever with a light rain shower here and there to clean the sky.

I need to head into Costco today for my prescription. I really don't need anything else so I should just go in and come out, but will likely have to park in the next county. Funny isn't it. People will circle the parking lot looking for just the right spot. They will wait untill someone unloads their entire cart, straps their kids in and put's their cart in the spot where carts go, get in their car, start it up, put on their lipstick then back up so one person, idling their car in wait, can get that spot finally allowing the line of idling cars behind them to move forward and do the same. Just find a spot and walk the walk. I realize there are some who can't walk that far and have trouble, but mostly it's just the "I need to get the spot nearest the door" syndrome. Cracks me up.

Lois, thanks for sharing that poppy block with me, it's pretty cool and a very nice thing for you to do. What will you do while the boys and on mancation? How long will they be gone?

Judi, that's a big dinner party, and a real blessing that you don't have to cook or do dishes. Enjoy your family time.

Jana, Enjoy your girls day. Nice that Mr. G gets to go have a play date too.

Maryz, hope you saved me some hot water, I also need a shower. Your dinner sounds like it was wonderful. Fajitas are really good. Nice that your prescriptions are in a more convenient spot. My only other choice was a grocery store, Raleys, or Walmart. Not a huge fan of either. Yep, my arm is fine. There is a very small dot where the procedure started and if I didn't know where it was, I wouldn't even see it. I have to be positive, negative is a road I don't want to travel, it inspires hate and causes ulcers. Besides, God always makes things work out for me, He doesn't let me fail. He lets me have trials, but He always lets me come out ahead. It truly is good to be me in spite of whatever is going on. I really do have a good life.

Maryq, I hadn't used my dishwasher in years, one day I opened it because I was going to use the rack for drying and there was a drinking glass inside, no telling how long that was in there. Each year when school starts I call Richard and ask him if his lunch is packed and his pencil's are sharp. Then I ask if I can come walk him to class. He chuckles and says no.

Alrighty, I have one hour until Slim comes and gets my trash and hauls it off. I just think the world of this man. He is so helpful, and has been such a blessing to me and others in this community. I pay him, but he would do it for free.

I finally thawed something out for dinner. it will be chicken and I think broccoli, yep, that sounds good.

So, I need to hit the shower, get some breakfast and start my day. You all have the most wonderful day ever.

Have a peaceful day

Rainy day, no fishing. Slept in, which was a treat.

Yesterday was a beautiful day to fish, though a little more breeze than I like, so we couldn't try a couple of spots. I found a cove out of the wind. I caught a little Walleye. Then a Loon popped up by the boat, I think it was a good luck charm. I then caught a 15 1/4" and a 16" Walleye, both good keepers. I changed Garry's bait to what I was using but he ended with zero. I watched a video, to remind myself the best way to clean walleye. I did pretty good if I do say so myself.

Lois, Are you sending the Poppy blocks to My Fabric Friends in Victoria, TX? I did a search and found they are collecting to the end of July, hoping to make 100 quilts by Sept. I'm going to call and see if they will take blocks after that. I might do some but mail takes a long time. My friend is still waiting on the labels I mailed.

MaryZ, Glad L & L truck was an easy fix. We had a similar problem a few days after we bought this MH. Luckily we weren't in Canada yet and took it to Fargo for a computer update on engine.

MaryQ, I will dedicate and eat a piece of Walleye just for you.

Today's dinner will be Walleye and wild rice, also fresh corn on the cob.
Lyn

New info on the Poppy quilt block drive. I called My Fabric Friends, in Victoria, TX. First, someone posted that they were excepting blocks to the end of July. That is wrong and they don't know why that was posted. They are excepting poppy blocks for an indefinite period of time and people are also sending them other quilts they already have made. I took a screenshot of the post and a screenshot of the pattern, though it might be easier to look it up on YouTube.
