Good morning It is cloudy and steamy outside. we will go to 95 today and humid, Not fit to be out unless you are floating in a pool or the beach, I am neither. I am closing all the blinds and hoping the house stays semicool without the A?C running continuously. I have nothing planned again today, My DDIL cancelled therapy yesterday with stomach issues so I got a bit of sewing done. I think I might be able to get the top assembled today, Supper might be salmon for Ken and ? for me ( Dont like Salmon) he loves it but we shall see,
Hope you all have a great day.
Lyn I have never used that Moda fabric nor seen it in the shops, I rarely use anything but straight up quilting fabric on the back of my quilts. I prefer 108 backing with no seams, Minky seems like it would be hard to work with but others love it.

Morning
I am still learning about chickens, but I have heard it's normal to not lay every now and then.
Roof supposed to start tomorrow! Yay! Lots of clean up and tool wrangle today. Plus DDIL having procedure on 2 weeks for kidney stone, so I'm watching DGD daily because of pain DDIL is in. Plus I have my 3 yr old friend tomorrow...can anything else be dumped on my plate? No sew time for me.

Good morning, Ladies,

JUDI - I can't believe you are already nearly finished with your Made in America quilt. What is the plan for this beauty when it's finished? 95 and high humidity? Good plan to hunker down inside and turn on the A/C. I hope Val is feeling better today.

LYN, I've never used that fabric at all. I know Cindy used Minkie once and, while she loved the fabric (after the quilt was finished), she hated working with it. I like to back my quilts with cotton or flannel. Are you liking your new Bernie? I love the knee lift feature on mine and use it a lot for applique and paper piecing. I don't think I hear any extra noises. But I do like the satisfying little sound my Bernie makes when I use the automatic thread cutter. It sounds like TV sewing!

LORI - You always manage to fill your plate up with fun stuff! All you need to add to your list of activities is to join a bowling league! Do you know yet when you will be starting your renovation project? We really liked Glide thread for the LA but then we discovered Magnifico and that's pretty much all we use now. We buy it by the cone from Superior Threads.

CHRISS - everything is moving right along with your medical stuff. Good news that your angiogram went well yesterday. Wishing you nothing but more good news today at the neurologist. I've got your appt with the heart surgeon as Aug 6 on my calendar so I know when to send prayers and good karma your way. But now you say Aug 8. Which is correct? I thought your kitchen work was kind of up in the air, looking for a contractor. I missed that you decided to go with having Lowe's do the work? Probably a smart and more time-efficient decision. Your dental plan is $350/yr and it includes 2 free cleanings plus XR's, plus a percentage off on any other work? That is a GREAT plan! Our cleanings now are $400 each. XRs add another $100.

JANA - glad your eye is holding well. My DBIL's is also doing well. He gets his shots about every five weeks. Good to hear things are keeping on an even keel at your house for the moment. But I expect anniv. party preparations will begin before long.

MARY Q - what do you mean, "even at my age I should probably go get 'the girls' checked"??? First of all, I'm older than you so please don't be hinting at elderliness! Second of all - you don't get annual mammograms?? Girl, get yourself in there!! We know a gal who is a few years older than WE are and she's never had a mammo because she says, she doesn't need to because there's no family history. Yet only 1 in every 9 cases of breast cancer is there family history. I will take up Chrissy 1's battle cry - get those girls checked!!

VAL - glad you figured out what was "wrong" with your M17. Just like my iron that "quit". I hate when it's operator error but I guess I hate it more when it's not! Sorry you aren't liking your blue stars quilt. That's the Blueberries and Cream quilt, isn't it? I Googled that and have to say I really do like it. Kind of looks like a Milky Way quilt only in blue. But I do get falling out of love with a quilt as I made a sawtooth log cabin once for Drew - about 20 years ago. He loved it but I still hate that pattern!

FLO - I remember when you were battling breast cancer and also your reconstructive surgery. It was a rough time for you. And I would think it would be natural to be concerned about a recurrence. Glad the roof is going to start! Sorry our DDIL is in so much pain. I've never had stones, but my SIL says they were worse than labor pains - she's had both.

DIANE - We're here for you to vent as you start your journey. If you have need down the road please check out Knitted Knockers https://www.knittedknockers.org/. It is an organization that provides lightweight knitted knockers - prostheses. They are given out free and are knitted by volunteers. While camping a few years ago we ran into the woman who had a double mastectomy and she made the first pair for herself and said they were much more comfortable than regular prosthetics. And from that the charity was born.

Yesterday I finished my table runner and posted a photo. Not sure why my pictures sometimes post sideways or even upside down because that isn't how I take them! But it is what is is. Now I'm turning my attention to the baby clothes quilt. I started quilting it about 3 days ago, but haven't touched it since then. I also pulled my red/white/blue fabrics for my Hero's Stars. I don't have enough of any one fabric but I guess I could make the stars from different fabrics but in the same basic colors. Couldn't I?

Then we cleaned the house and shopped for our BBQ tonite. We did find steaks at Costco. I'm not going to say they were affordable - because that would be a lie! But except for Lara and myself, this crowd is a bunch of serious carnivores and red is their favorite color of meat. I'm also going to make twice-baked potatoes, grilled asparagus, salad, and homemade brownies with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Still not sure if we're having 7, 8, or 9 folks for dinner. Hopefully we'll know by later this morning. In the meantime, I'm going to be making brownies, baking potatoes, washing asparagus, and tossing a salad. I'll work on quilting during any extra minutes I have this afternoon.

My brother, Gene, is home from the hospital. He's tired and has some resting up to do, but his wonderful voice sounds strong and his mind and sense of humor is sharp and intact. His voice sounds much like Brian Keith's if any of you remember him. He came home with 30 days worth of oral ABX and orders to rest.

Prayers for all! Seems we can all use a few these days.

Good morning!

Happy Pioneer Day! A great day to celebrate all the pioneers in our lives. Those who went before us, blazing paths for us and our families. We all have pioneers in our lives, let's remember and learn about them! Pioneers are everywhere!

Got woke up to the sounds of sirens headed up the canyon. I got a whiff of grass fire smoke, but only one set of fire engines. So I hope it was caught early. Aaron will let me know later. His duty time hadn't quite got started, but he'll be called out early. As you hear the sirens, there's a difference in the sound between fire and PD. I've learned to hear that difference. There's a difference in smells of different combustible fuel.

It's a state holiday and we'll see a abundance of local neighborhood fireworks tonight. The big Days of 47 parade starts at 9 am in downtown SLC. It's a big deal, people campus on the parade route overnight, it's a big family party, for the best spots. Days of 47 is from when our pioneers entered the valley on July 24, 1847. The parade started the next year and since then. We'll watch the parade with all the floats on TV.

I have some dishes needing my attention and then I can play in the Batt Cave.

Hugs and prayers,
Jana

Good Morning Girls

Another muggy day--not quite so hot, so I think I've leave the AC off for a while and enjoy the little bit of breeze coming in the window!!

Judi... Not of fan of salmon? I love it! When I was in AK Jen fixed some Halibut and I made salmon--both so good. I might look for Halibut at the grocery store. I've sewn little baby blankets with Minkie and made scarves out of it.. It is NOT fun to work with--like trying to nail down a cloud! I have some beautiful pieces that Katie gave me because I couldn't resist, but not sure what to do with them. I did make myself a little strap for my seatbelt, to soften it as it goes across by my neck.

Flo... I suppose your chickens are a lot like a lot of us Moms... sometimes we just need a break! YEAH for the new roof... finally!!!!!

Maryz.. Ok, ok.... I'll call and make appointment for mammo!! My Dr says I'm good to have it every 2 years. I usually used to schedule it around my birthday--because it was always a good reminder to do it! I checked out the knitter knockers! What a great idea. I just might have to print out that pattern and see if I can stitch them. Hope you have a great time with all your guests tonite... if it weren't for that asparagus I'd be tempted to join you! Glad to hear Gene is home from hospital with a full regimen of ABX! Hope he feels better soon!

Jana... How convenient that you can watch the big parade on TV. I do love a good parade, but so much easier to sit at home at watch! Do they have big marching bands?

Lyn... Thanks for the rain.... it landed here mid afternoon yesterday. We like rain around here as it keeps our grass green and we don't have to pay hundreds of dollars to water our lawns. Some folks here seem to prefer to have lush green grass--not realizing how much it costs to keep it that way. I saw a thing on FB about using the knee lift thing.... Now I'm trying to remember where I put mine so I can try it out.

Chriss... What fun.. a new sink!! Oh how I would love to do that too!! My neighbor Peggy just got new granite counter tops and a stainless sink--I'm so jealous!!  I wrote down today as another appointment to send prayers for, but not which Dr. you are seeing today. I missed quite a lot when I was gone and didn't realize you had more than one issue to deal with! Do you have anybody to go with you to your appointment? Can Richard join you for the cardiac surgeon appointment?

Lori... Zippers? That would be awesome if you can send what you won't need! I usually get them from Amazon, but bought a few from Katie yesterday as she has quite a stash too! On Amazon they come out to about .35c each--much better than over $2. at the store--IF you can find them!!

Once again, my coffee is cold, so think I'll warm it up and get to work. A few of last nights dishes in the sink--will wash then head to the sewing room. Working on my Christmas Swap blocks and will likely finish today--then it's back to pencil cases. I'm already trying to plan what to make for the craft fair in November -- but trying not to get ahead of myself!!

Sending prayers for all this morning!

Maryq, I think there is a dozen zippers. I packaged them up and will send them off. They are from Amazon. Fresh halibut is the best. We have a market that carries fresh halibut but it's really expensive. A 6oz piece is usually $12-17 depending on the season. I also like salmon if it's caught wild. I don't do farmed fish at all.

Jana, hope they were able to get the fire out quickly.

Maryz, I have some Magnifico too. My Janome does not like it. I'll have to try it on the Bernina. I like Superior threads. Use the Bottom line in my bobbin most of the time. I could never join a bowling league. They're 38 weeks long. I do have my own ball and shoes and occasionally bowl. Love your table runner. Brian Keith was one of my favorite actors back in the day. Glad Gene is home and doing better.

Flo, chickens like meal worms. My friend used to raise them and she had a meal worm farm to give to the chickens. It was quite disgusting. She said their favorite food was cantalope.

Judi, 95 and humid is a stay inside kind of day. Growing up we didn't have A/C. In fact, I've only had A/C for 15 years. I don't know how we survived. It's not so bad during the day, but when the house doesn't cool off at night it's rough.

Lyn, I have seen that soft fabric at the LQS. I haven't tried it yet. I will though. Quilting with Minkie isn't really that difficult. It's just messy.

The boys walked me and Bill is out golfing again. I already watered up the street today. I'll probably work on my Christmas swap blocks today. They're nothing fancy. Dinner will be BBQ chicken and mashed potatoes with a veggie.

Have a lovely day.

This should be interesting, I decided to clean the pantry today instead of sewing, I did find one spice from 2021 and tossed it, Dont know how that one got by me. I also had to toss a few things that had no date and I dont think I will use them again, I have one of those jar vaccume sealers and keep all my dry good sealed in mason jars, I did some of that today too...TOnight is a hockey game so I wont finish the quilt till maybe this weekend....xxxooo PS IN CAPITAL LETTERS....GET YOUR MAMMOGRAM.. While working in Oncology I had a patient who was 80 yrs old newly diagnosed with breast cancer ( rare but possible) no family history there either I get mine every year. I will get Chrisy1 here if I have to...xxxooo

Hi there! Just checking in as I have a few hours to goof off.

MQ - have you made that appt yet? And if not, why not?? If so, then you get an atta girl! I never miss my yearly mammo or my 6 month dental cleanings.

JUDI - I just did that big pantry cleaning about 6 weeks ago - and then the master bath 3 or 4 weeks ago. How does it all accumulate??

Lee & Lara are on their way back to us from Wilsonville, OR, south of Portland (about 175 miles). And their brand new truck (still sporting the temp plates!) is giving them trouble. They are traveling up I-5 at a very slow speed with their hazards on. Bill told them if they can't make it, he'll go get our truck out of the body shop and go fetch them home. They have an appt at Dodge dealer at 10am tomorrow morning. I feel so badly for them that this has happened on their first trip out. But all of us RVers have been down this route. Bill has rescued many friends - some 2 or 3 times. And a few strangers. And we've been rescued BY our friends - 2 or 3 times. And everyone who is coming to BBQ tonite has been rescued by Bill at least once. So I can guess what the conversation will be centered around tonite!

We finally, this afternoon, got started on Amara's scrapbook of our visit down there last winter. This will be good to get her warmed up for our visit this winter. We'll have it sent directly to her. So far we've got the front and back cover and the first page done. 19 pages left to go. It's fun, doing it on the computer. And far cheaper and faster than doing it the old fashioned way. I also washed some of my American fabrics for my QOV quilt. Dried them on the line and Maybe I can figure out a way to make them be enough to do this quilt. Or I might go shopping . . . . But for now, I'm going to relax on the deck and watch some Cathedral Window videos.

Good evening. what a long long day.

The neurosurgeon didn't ooohhh and awwww over my Meningioma. He said, oh, it's ok. We'll do an MRI and establish a baseline and keep an eye on it. First the thyroid doctor only wants to see me yearly to keep an eye on it now this. I bet the heart surgeon doesn't treat me like this. I bet he will want to do some major work on me, actually I'm pretty positive he will.

I've put off the countertops until after my heart surgeon appointment on the 5th. I don't need to have surgery and replace countertops at the same time.

I also went to two goodwill's. Do you know they want just over $5 for a shirt. Then I stopped at the fruit stand on my way home. The lady who owns the fruit stand is so nice. She gave me so much stuff to take home. I'll have to give some of it away, I just don't eat that much.

Lyn, I've not heard of that fabric but I have heard that with mineky it sews easier if you use a walking foot. But I've also not ever tried it. When Marilyn was young I had a piece of Mineky that I was going to use for a baby quilt but she decided she needed the fabric because it was so soft.

Judi, I'm not a salmon fan either. I like other fish but salmon has never been something I would order. Hope DDIL is feeling better. So? did your house stay cool or did the a/c come on. It's 85 in my house and 85 outside, but the sun is going down and it will cool off. I was behind a jeep today with a red wings logo on the spare tire, must mean they will win. I do my mammo in October. The hospital where I have it done gives out free things in October. I also have my yearly bloodwork done at the same time.

Flo, when grandpa's hens wouldn't lay he would tell them they had best get to it or they would be soup. He also put a golf ball in their nests and supposedly that helped Yay for the roof.

Maryz, love the table runner, very cool. Glad Gene is home, bet he's also glad. I'd fit right in at your dinner party, hope it was fun.

Jana, hope the fire was nothing. We've already had a few around here. Happy pioneer day to you.

Maryq, today I went to WM and guess what they had? school supplies. I thought of you the whole time I looked at them. I bet your friends counter tops are gorgeous. Richard is on baby duty when I go see the heart surgeon but he told me to call him so he could join by phone.
