Good morning, Ladies,

It's going to be another great day - I can feel it in my bones!

LORI - I'm doing stretching exercises for both my feet (got to keep them even!) and ankles now, too. I also switch feet with my sewing machine pedal. And no, I don't unplug my iron unless we're leaving on a trip. My ironing surface is a backless cabinet with a wide top nailed onto it. I have to get down on the floor, unload the cabinet, and reach through to the wall to get to the plug. It ain't easy on this old gal! I'd rather buy irons every two years. I'm wondering of us all here how many leave their irons plugged in at night. Am I the only one??

CHRISS - Yay for your new stove being there! And yay for Dad on his way! Were you able to cook last night? Maybe if you offer the squirrels something better than your fruit - raw peanuts for instance. And put them as far as you can from your trees . . .

JUDI - I never think of Michigan as having such hot weather! Maybe up in UP they don't? That's where we've always gone when visiting your state - back when Bill's relatives were alive. Sorry you will be retiring at hockey cheerer onners. But maybe Ryker will change his mind. Didn't Liam say the same thing a few years back? I hope your friend will be OK.

JANA - I hope you don't heat up too much but then, when I think of Utah, I think of HEAT. It seems every time I've spent time in Utah, it's been between 86 and 106. I'm a 76 kind of gal! Did y'all figure out where the BIL is staying?

VAL - Have you looked into motel travel clubs. I know Motel 6 and Best Western among many others offer discounts to their club members. Some motel chains offer free breakfast, too, which can be a real money saver on a long trip. Did I read that your first night will be in Rock Springs, WY?? That's nearly 900 miles. Have you ever ridden that far in one day? I have. Once, 25 years ago.

LYN - I hope your weather improves - or doesn't so you can play with your machine! Well, now I'm not sure what to hope for for you! Except that you can get your tag axle repaired without too much difficulty or cost. Seems like you're going to be needing it before long.

MERRY Q - thanks for co-hosting the Christmas Swap! I love Christmas quilts - I put them on the bed, over living room couch, chair, and in the family room. If we're home for the season. But as long as Amara lives in Texas I guess I'll decorate my trailer with them instead. But there's always room for one more! Love your Alaskan quilt! I have patterns for wildlife in AK, wild flowers in AK, life in general in AK. All a mixture of piecing and applique. If you want to make more AK quilts, talk to me!

LOIS - missing you!

Yesterday was so productive! I finished Drew's 6 placemats (tops only - still need to quilt them), passed the halfway point quilting "...River", and got 1+ flowerbeds cleaned out. Then I took a shower, gathered up all my Christmas books and patterns, and settled down on the deck with a chilled V-8 to get some ideas for the Christmas swap - which we posted yesterday morning. I even cooked supper! Yay, me!

Today's agenda includes a 9am chiro appt, dr appt at 10:30 for BP check, tidy up some messes, more quilting on "...River", make a sample Christmas block for the swap, and maybe get in another hour or two out in the yard. Doctor appts really cut into my day. I have to try to stay clean and dressed for going out and half a day is wasted.

Tonight's supper is going to be homemade pizza.
Wishing a good day to everyone and prayers for everyone's needs.

And please, do check out the Christmas swap. They are fun and you have 8-10 weeks to make the blocks.

Good morning!

Yes, we're hot again! And again and again. Not bad, if you can stay inside! 😀

Sandee had her one cataract surgery done yesterday and can already see a great deal of improvement. The other eye is scheduled in a couple of weeks.

As to irons - mine does stay plugged in all the time, sort of. Mr G has a additional switch that my iron plugs into. To use, I flip that switch to on and when I'm done for the day, I switch it off. I do not rely on the irons internal timer for on and off. It's a safety issue and y'all know Mr G and safety! My garbage disposal has a momentary on off switch too. It requires you to hold the switch in the on position and is a distance from the garbage disposal unit, so you can't reach in to it while running. Then ther all the rules about leaving appliances running, etc. Some drive me nuts, but oh well.......

I play more with OWL today and make sure the guest room is ready.

Valerie - 900 miles is ridiculous in one day! You will be exhausted! Many times in our younger years, we'd push through from Concord to Kaysville (Salt Lake) with 2 drivers trading off, and that was about 750 miles and were so tired, we didn't do much the next day! We recuperated! The drive from Concord here, averaged about 12 hrs, with the time change and speeding across Nevada at about 90, when there was no road construction. There's many miles of one lane road construction, with no passing to get around trucks and traffic. We'd stop for fuel in Reno, Elko and get to Kaysville with a half tank left. Always planned not to push the tank, there's nothing between towns but sagebrush! Just a word, from someone who drove i-80 across Nevada, on average of three times a year, for more than 20 years! And kept a log of the time, along the way - that kept the kids busy! Prevented the proverbial question of, are we there yet. 😀

Well, time to scoot, Grumpy is at it,

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning its almost afternoon here, I as up early to beat the heat I baked a loaf of bread and did 3 loads of laundry, I still will mop the kitchen floor and the bathrooms...It sounds worse than it is,,,they are very quick mops. I will then work on the CW blocks and fill my needles cases with threaded needles. When I do hand work I thread about 30 needles with the thread I am using, It makes the sewing go so much faster,,,and these olds eyes like to get all of that done at one time.
Ken is home today with sciatica he has been icing and resting and whining for 2 days,,,he will finally get into the chiropractor today at 4, its not the dr of his choice but he cannot wait for her to coming on thursday, I usually ignore him when he has a problem due to the fact that he never does what I tell him anyway. I handed him an ice pack and 2 tylenols this morning with no word exchange,,,He knows and i know....he made the appointment, Im sure he will be laid up the rest of the evening,
I will make chicken tenders with dipping sauce and air fryer fries, My DD gave me an air fryer she was going to throw it out. It is huge, We were going to buy one but this was free, Trouble is it is so big I am having a hard time finding a place t put it and I have no clue how to use it, She got a microwave with an airfryer and she likes it better, I will look this model up and see if there are directions...and recipes/
Well i need to fold the last load and get that put away, then I will stittch for awhile...Hope you are all having a good day, It is 85 and I dont want to see my electric bill after the 2 ac units have been running almost non stop...(We have 2 central air units one in the attic and one in the basement.)XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Overcast with a chance of rain this afternoon, may hit 74°.

Trivia question on iron. I leave mine plugged in when I'm at a house, but unplug when we leave. In the MH, it's usually unplugged after using or when it's time to fix dinner, because it sits next to the cook top.

MaryZ, Why don't you buy a small surge protector with a flat plug head? Then you wouldn't have to climb under the cabinet, just unplug from surge protector and switch it off. I hope your appts go well.

Jana, You had mentioned the Great Salt Lake and that it stinks. I don't remember it that way back in 1958 when we were on vacation, and being 5 yrs old that would have stuck in my memory. When I lived in West Jordan 1985-1992, we went to the Lake a few times, it had a slight smell then. Too bad it's gotten stinky.

Valerie, Best Western hotels do have breakfast and it's pretty good at the one's we've stayed at. 900 miles to Rock Springs is a lonngg drive. I just looked up the route and right now there's at least 10 highway construction sites on I-80, from your place to Rock Springs. I hope they are done come September. I envy your sewing days at the shops you go to.

I got a few things done yesterday but didn't get the boat in the water. I do have the old numbers off and new ready to be put on. I needed to replace the license plate and that ended up with having to hacksaw off 2 bolts. These were locking bolts so no one could steal the plate, but if you forgot what you did with the tool, you can't get them off. 2003 when Garry put them on, he thought it was a great idea. So I don't recommend a bolt head that is smooth, round edge, with a hexagon shape inside and a tit sticking up in the center.

I will get the numbers on, remove cover and get stuff arranged. A friend came by yesterday and offered to help me get the boat in the water. Don't know what dinner will be, maybe we'll go to town to one of the 3 restaurants.

Hope y'all have a good day. Prays for those in need.
Lyn

Real quick and then I will come back later. Yes did Rock Springs on the motorcycle on the way to Sturgis one year. HD Ultra Classic but still a motorcycle. Yes it's a long way but then we will get to Rapid city that much earlier.

I'll be back later. DH Back to work today. Chaos, then off to quilt shop

Good morning. Things are heating up around here.

My stove is in. The plan was to make spaghetti squash with spaghetti sauce. I made the sauce but when I cut open the squash to cook it the seeds had sprouted and so I threw it over the fence. Something will eat it or it will grow where I tossed it and I will have an endless supply of it. I didn't have much else here so I put my sauce over cauliflower rice, not nearly as exciting but when I was finished I wasn't hungry.

So far this morning I have two loads of laundry done and hanging on the line. The house was only opened for a couple of hours before it started getting too hot. And the garden has been watered. My beefsteak tomatoes are starting to turn color, They aren't as big as I had hoped but the summer is young and there is time.

Today I plan on taking all of the tools that dad has been using in the house back out to the garage. That will mean some sorting. It will also mean clearing off that very cluttered workbench. Either I am too tidy or dad is too messy, ugh. I imagine my kids will say kind of the same thing when they go through my sewing stuff.

Lori, guess we aren't identical twins. Your sheets got done yesterday, mine are on the line today. I also have Christmas blocks from a swap needing to be put together.

Maryz, today I will be offering the squirrels a mixture of cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes, I'll mix it with a little Dawn and some expired olive oil I found in the cupboard. It will go down every hole I can find and is supposed to be a deterrent. If that doesn't work I know my pellet guns do. Hope all your appointments go well.

Jana, I have to agree with Mr. G about the safety issue of irons being left to hope the timer inside of them works. 900 miles at 65 mph is a 13 hour drive. Jerry and I drove from here to Illinois in a couple of days but that was more than 25 years ago.

Judi, There are so many exercises for sciatica, one will surely work for Ken. I can smell that bread from here, I think honey and butter would be good with it. I have the same air fryer issue. Mine is big but the smaller ones are too small. Mine will likely go to Marilyn if she ever comes this way. I've used it a handfull of times, but now that I am all fancy and have a brand new oven I will use it instead. I like propane better than electric.

Lyn, remember when a ratchet and sockets solved all the bolt problems, Back when metric wasn't a thing and there was only slotted and phillips head screw drivers? Glad you had a hack saw. I'd really like some fish, hope you get that boat in the water soon.

Valerie, whatever route you take and however long you choose to drive each day, I hope it's the best trip ever.

I need some breakfast and to get my day started. I have a to do list staring at me and tomorrow will do grocery shopping after my thyroid doctor appointment.

Not sure what I will have for dinner, I have chicken thawing, but who knows what I will end up eating.

Have a fantastic day
Chriss

Maryz, I put in strip plugs when the outlet is behind a big cabinet. That way I can turn them off when out of use. I've been thinking about my block for the swap, but haven't decided yet.

Valerie, thing are more fun and easier when we are younger. We used to drive to Alamogordo NM straight though. It was a 12 hour drive and we only stop to used the restrooms. It's 816 miles.

Judi, when I sew binding, I thread all the needles prior. That way it goes faster. If I'm traveling, I just load the needle on the thread and pull them as needed.

Jana, glad Sandee's surgery was a success.

Chriss, did the pepper deter the tree rats at all? There was one in my backyard this morning and I yelled at it to leave. It looked at me and then left. I need a cat. I bought beef steak tomatoes one year and they turned out to be not so big either. I hope they taste yummy though. Bummer about the squash.

Lyn, I've been to the salt lake many times and it didn't smell. Maybe it's a certain time of year that a bacteria grows that makes it smell. I don't know that much about it.

I've had my iron for about 7 years. It's a Rowetta and I unplug after using it. It will still draw power if it is plugged in. I also unplug my machine because I worry about power surges. Surge protectors don't always work correctly.

Does anyone still have contact with Kathyquilts? She vanished after having some health issues. Our group keeps getting smaller and smaller.

I have no plans for today. I will probably sit on the patio and read a bit. Maybe pull out a project to work on. I've been in kind of a funk lately. Need to get past that and move on. The other appraisal in NorCal will be done today. Hopefully I can get everything transferred over within the next month and be done with it. Dinner will be chicken on the grill with potatoes and onions. Probably a veggie as well.

Have a lovely day.

Good Morning Girls

Little late to the party this morning, but I'm up, showered and dressed. Enjoying a nice cool day with the sound of light rain in the background! Perfect day to stay in and sew---after a quick trip to Walgreens for an Rx.

Maryz.... Doesn't it feel great to get so much accomplished in one day!! I'm anxious to look for a Christmas pattern to do for our swap! I know there is a book in my garage cupboards (where most of my patterns are) that's just CHRISTMAS! I may have to go digging out there! And there's 3 tote boxes full of Christmas fabric, so I should be set to go!

Jana... Getting a power strips for the irons is probably a good idea--even with auto off-. I've made the mistake of not reading all the directions on an iron I bought once--NOT auto-off and I left it on over night! NOT GOOD. I do unplug when I go out of town for an extended period of time--I even unplug the sewing machines.

Judi.... I don't think I've ever met a man who does what he's told. How do you make your chicken tenders for the air-fryer? I have one Kevin gave me and it tucks way back in a corner, but it is a beast! I'm trying to get in the habit of using for things like frozen chicken nuggets, but I haven't been very adventurous with other things.

Lyn... You are wonder woman taking care of all the stuff with the RV and the boat!! Could that bolt need an allen wrench? They suck--as they are easily stripped!

Valerie.. .. That will be long drive to do in one day! It would take me 15 hours as I'd have to stop and potty every 100 miles!

Chriss.... When we built our house in 1986, we had to have a big gas tank outside for the furnace and water heater, for some reason it made me nervous to have my stove be on it-so I went electric stove, it was what I was used to since our house in No. Minnesota was all electric. I can see advantages cooking with gas, I know Kris prefers it, maybe because he dad worked for the Gas company here for 40 years! Do you put epsom salt on your tomatoes? Or fertilizer? I'm hoping that the farmers markets around here have some good ones, as I'd love to make some salsa!

Lori.... Sometimes I wonder how long QIAD will keep the forum active/open. I know there a tons of "members" but so few of us left to keep it up. Checking in here is such a part of my daily routine--wake up, pee, grab coffee, sign on! My quilting funk comes when I have too many things I WANT to do and can't decide which one TO DO!

Half the day is gone and I haven't done a thing. I woke up at 0930!! I couldn't believe I slept so late!! And I was only awake once during the night, which is quite rare. So I better get going. Am waiting for it stop raining so I can run to Walgreens for my Rx and stop at the local greenhouse to get a pot to replant my orchid in--though knowing me, I will probably kill it in the process!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

ps.... who needs arm twisting to join the Christmas Swap... I can happily provide!

Chriss, You are right, life was much easier without these fancy headed screws and bolts some doofus came up with.

MaryQ, An Allen wrench would work if it was hollow in the middle to go over the nipple that is sticking up in the center of the bolt. My guess is Garry put them on in 2003 when we bought the boat and put the fancy wrench in the garage. Since all tools were moved around after the floods in 2013 & 14, hard telling were it might be if it's even there.

Garry says he's not feeling well. I don't think he's drinking enough water.

Back to projects. Projects sounds better than Work, doesn't it?
