Tuesday June 17th

Post by grammiequilts » Tue Jun 17, 2025 6:01 am

Good morning my friends It is a beautiful day here but we are getting hot 86 for today. It is sunny but i decided to do my sun room since 4 of the 7 windows are in the shade right now and the dust under the furniture is enough to cause several species to move in. It is a tiny room (7x9 or 10) with 7 windows but it is a room we sit in and chat often. Have coffee or other beverages in the winter too...I will do the windows and floor today. I have a large tulip tree that shades this room in the morning and afternoon.. Right now I think I can get at least 4 of the windows done without sun on them. the other 3 later this afternoon when th sun moves. All the plants have been moved out trimmed and watered.
Had a nice visit with Val yesterday as i took her to therapy. She is doing good in her water therapy she is able to do a small marching step in the water and uses a walker some more in the house...To prevent her from getting worsr in the goal here,,,Liams team lost the hockey game last night but it was fun to see him play again,,He does hate that high school hockey is all year,,,He so wanted the summer off,,but here they are with 9 games to play.
Best get back to work,,,Hope you all have a great day,XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning from Salem, SD. Might get rained on today, had a little yesterday.

MaryZ, Hope you are feeling OK and may your camping be relaxing.

Jana, I don't have to worry about the wiring in my Sewing Cabin. The electrician put in a lot of circuit breakers. They only have 2 or 3 outlets on each.

As for irons, I only use distilled water and I have never had a problem. I didn't need to buy the Panasonic 360 cordless, but wanted it, even though my Maytag cordless was still working great. I got tired of waiting for it to break so I could buy the Panasonic. Lol

On to Fergus Falls, MN. We'll stay in the Walmart parking area for RV'S and truckers. I will take inventory and buy whatever else is needed before crossing the border tomorrow.

Have a good day.

Good morning!

Another repeat of hot! Sloths move slow and even slower in the heat! I made the sloth look like a road runner yesterday. Today I must do better! I really don't like being a sloth!

I do have to run to the grocery store, heat or not. We need some fresh veggies. I am thinking of making a copycat recipe from a restaurant that had fried zucchini with a cucumber dip sauce that was yummy! That can be dinner.

Not much else here. My big boys are hauling junk off from Sandee's house. She's trying to clean out junk and have a yard sale. Maybe she'll be ready next summer, she's been trying since last summer to do this! Sandee saves everything! And then add her siblings junk.

Off to practice my not being a sloth skills,
Hugs,
Jana

Good morning,

Hope everyone is well. Yesterday I did go ahead and drive up to the shop in Dixon. Didm't buy much. A couple spools of thread, some more prewound bobbins and a bobbin holder, 3 yards of fabric. Good new! The shop is going to be able to stay open. They are restructuring and taking another go at it. They still have lots of fabric on sale. Skip was ordering machines yesterday. So some good news in the quilt store industry.

I then went to the vacaville shop and got the rest of the fabric I need for a baby quilt. My little lady I used to take care of in Napa is having a great grandbaby and she wants a baby quilt. So I then went and visited with her and her son. They sent me home with lots of herbs from their garden. My house smells wonderful this morning. I am just going to do pinwheels so it should go together quickly.

I never put water in my irons either. I don't wear clothes that need ironing. I do have Rowenta. But I am with Judi, the best iron I ever had was a black and decker. I use Best Press on my fabric before cutting but I dilute it with water 1/2 and 1/2.

Maryq that would be fun to bring my machine along but alas, it is just too heavy. And too big, I wouldn't be able to bring much else. It primarily uses JEF, JEF+, and JPX files. It can also use some DST. It has 1230 built in. Still trying to figure out driving plans. I was going to go straight across Michigan to Eastern NY and up to Vermont and then realized that is through Canada and I don't want to mess with that paperwork. So back to the drawing board on that. I see Hotel prices have gone up along with everything else.

Lyn your about 300 miles from my son in Rapid City. Maybe you could wave as you go by. Safe travels to Fergus Falls.

Judi will be hot here today. Heading into the 80's for the next few days, Should be back in the 70's by Friday. I don't think I have ever heard of a tulip tree, or is I have seen one I didn't know what it was. I don't think we have them in California. Is there any expectation that Val will get somewhat better or is this strictly maintenance? Keeping motion is important.

Jana I have days I accomplish nothing. But I have to trust my body, it seems to know when day offs are needed.

Chriss glad you are getting time with your Dad and DSM. I think your Dad really enjoys his time away. AS you know, caring for Alzheimer's patient can be taxing.

Lori the sking is Ice. It is a pretty popular place. They have lots of events there. It is the 23rd anniversary of the museum this year and I know some things are planned around that. The rink has been there 56 years and was opened by Peggy Flemming. I wish I had kept up ice skating, who knows, I could have been an Olympian! Well maybe not.

Well not many chores accomplished the last few days so best get to getting. Also have to clean the CPAP today. Phone appt with RT is also today. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning Girls

Looks like it's going to be a hot sticky day here! I can feel the humidity in the air this morning!!

Judi.... What's your trick for streak free windows? I think I've tried every formula out there and I still get streaks. I do need to do the outsides of my windows this year as I think I never got around to it last year, but might wait until fall---as soon as I get them all clean, it will rain again and they will just get all dirty again.

Lyn,..... You will be so close and yet so far away ! 138 miles! Hope your drive today is an easy one.

Jana.... If I was showered and dressed, I'd meet you at the grocery store as I'm in need of veggies too! mostly just salad fixings as I have some left over taco meat and I'd love a good taco salad for supper. Hard to feel ambitious when it gets hot!!--Do you guys get much humidity or is Utah pretty dry like Colorado? Always use unsoftened water in the coffee pot! I much prefer bottled water to our city water, but I hate having so many plastic bottles to throw--recycle-- so I use a brita filter for drinking water in a Cirkul water bottle.

Valerie... Man, if I had a guest room at my house you'd be welcome to stay here!!! Closer to September, when your route is firm, I'll see if I can help you find a good place to stay, whether you want to stay near me, or head out after the warehouse trip. You can find hotels etc at a lot of those web sites for hotels. BUT here's a thing I learned the hard way---- I took Jen to a convention in Las Vegas and she got sick, so we had to cancel a couple days of our stay---no refund as we booked it through a 3rd party. So now, if I do need a hotel, I book it directly with the hotel.

Lori.... Have used the same dryer sheet method for cleaning the iron too, 9 times out of 10 is works pretty good!

Chriss... I think it must be something in the male DNA that doesn't like to ask for help--especially when it comes to care-taking. How great it will be for Dad to be able to go to his firefighter breakfast. There was book for Alzheimers family that Maryz recommended so I found it for my neighbor Peggy -- as I browsed through it --there was a mention that a caretaker needs to have 2 days a week on their own.

So yesterday the d/w repairman came back--UGH!! It needs a whole new control panel---sit down for this $600 parts and labor!!! Shawn came over for another project for me and looked at the owners manual--turns out that part has a five year warranty!!! YEAH--machine is only 3 years old. SO I just have to get LG to send an authorization for the service company to order the right part. I'll still have to pay for labor! For a minute there I considered just getting a new d/w as it would be cheaper than the repair bill! In the meantime, I'll just make sure I have a lot of Dawn liquid on hand!
Speaking of which I should probably go do some clean up then hit the sewing room. I'm trying to finish up some tops for Bundles of Love before I leave for Alaska.

Wishing you all the most wonderful day!

I have decided everyone needs to make this quilt!

Mary I think we are heading out after the warehouse. Vermont is 1300 miles from you and we will need 2 days to do that. So if we can get a few miles under our belt (engine) that would be helpful. I just had no idea Michigan directon would take us through Canada. Glad I looked before I made any more reservations.

Good morning. Lots of busy on my agenda today. Nothing too important but little things needing to be done. If everything opened at 7am I'd be done with my running around and be back home.

The parents didn't come up yesterday, seems they had phone issues. I received a call from a lady who said found dad's phone and saw my name in the emergency contacts. it had been run over. Well, I heard her to say my dad had been run over, I was putting on my shoes and grabbing my purse as I talked with her, she clarified it was just the phone. She lived a block away and took the phone to my dad. So the parents, who don't do anything early in the morning, spent the afternoon in the busiest Verizon store in town and both walked out with brand new phones. Dad said there are rebates and trade in's in the works. Not sure if they will be here today but I will surely get a phone call letting me know.

Judi, I have also been through a couple of Rowenta irons, same issue, water. I will never buy that brand again. I bet Ken is appreciative of your cleaning the basement for him. Tulip trees are beautiful. I think my favorite trees are Catalpa, Magnolia and Tulip, in no particular order. Glad Val is doing well, will she have to go for more treatments?

Lyn Fergus Falls sounds like a town that would be in a kids cartoon. You go through some fun sounding places. WM is smart to allow RV's to part in their lot, it surely adds to their bottom line.

Jana, let me know how that recipe comes out, I love zucchini. Hope the upcoming garage sale goes well. We've had two garage sales here. The first one I sat outside all weekend and made $175. Not sure how much we made on the second sale but Marilyn set up a table and sold popcorn, lemonade and other snacks or drinks she found in my cupboards. She also had a tip jar, she came up with all of this on her own. Now I don't want anyone here so I just donate whatever I want to get rid of.

Valerie, so glad your stores are staying open. The fabric store choices seem to be dwindling everywhere. Even a shop hop is so spread out that it just isn't worth going. Love the quilt you posted. And I really like that it uses 10 inch squares, my favorite precut. And it looks like HST's, also my favorite.

Maryq, Yay for the warranty on the DW part. I have a wall oven that has a circuit board issue, it hasn't worked in many years. It will be gone and something figured out with opening. I also don't have a spare room with an actual bed in it. I do have a blow up mattress. I'm not a good hostess. You'll have fun with Valerie, she's pretty cool, but don't tell her I said so.

The outside watering is done. Eggs have been boiled. I think I can close up the house, and head into town to get my stuff done, but first, breakfast.

you girls have glorious day

Chriss, did your dad even know his phone was missing? That's odd. I too have a busy day. I walked Jack, got the car washed vacuumed and dusted the house. Now I need to hop in the shower. I have a pool party this afternoon at a friends house. We're going to play some games as well. When my mom's dementia progressed, she like to color in those adult coloring books. She had all kinds of colored pencils and felt tipped pens. Maybe your stepmom would like that.

Valerie, I love the colors on that quilt. And definitely we should all make it in honor of our friend. Yay to keeping the quilt shop open.

Maryz, I think your are traveling today. Hope your drive is uneventful.

Jana, I give stuff away. I don't like to spend my time out front selling stuff. Hopefully Sandee will get it done soon.

Lyn, my friend has that iron. I really like it. I will buy one when mine goes kaput.

Judi, I need to do window, but they are on the back burner for now. Maybe when it cools off next week.

I cleaned the house, washed the car and now I need to shower. I'm heading out to a pool/game party this afternoon. It's supposed to be 90 today so a good day to be in a pool.

Have a lovely day.
