Saturday June 7th

Post by grammiequilts » Sat Jun 07, 2025 4:55 am

Good morning I am up and dressed and trying to decide whats for breakfast,,,Ken is still out cold. It is sunny and going to 77 today here should be a beautiful day, I will do some windows today is the sun goes away on that side of the house. I also have 2 bqthrooms to clean.
On the quilting front I have binding to hand sew on the garden quilt then I might get to the stitch book on the 570, I am doing a sample of each stitch on the machine just to see how they stitch out. I am using solid white charms ( got a pack at a thrift store a long time a go..I will use a stabelizer and punch a hole in the corner and use a ring to keep them together, I pretty much know much of the machine operations now except buttonholes but I dont make any of those anymore, If I do I will learn that too I guess.
Well that is all for me..Hope you have a great day,,,Safe Travels Lyn and prayers for sharona and all...XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Morning Judi and all to follow,
Judi, we use ridden also. I grew up on a septic tank, so it took awhile for memory to kick in. Enjoy new sewing machine. I need to play with mine soon, it's felling neglected.
Maryq, we do have leach lines. Main problem is leach line field is so soggy from all the rain. Here in Ozarks we broke record for rain fall for April & May. And its still raining!
Today Rotorooter going to jet clean all drain lines. We get a mold slime here in lines. Joe snaked them last spring but they didn't stay clean. Plus mass tonight. I'm tired already.

Good morning,

CHRISS - sorry you missed your neurosurgeon's call but for the best reason ever! Glad you love the kids' house. Soon Elliott will be running around outside in that back yard! Is he walking around furniture yet? That's funny - "under new management". Thanks for the chuckle. So it looks like Dad wants to make sure you are as set as he can make you. What a great dad you have! Fun to go shopping for new countertops. My pro tip to share is this: don't get black. Ours is black and we keep losing out phones, the top to the olive oil cruet, and anything else that is dark in color.

LYN - Sorry you have a hick-up and need to stay a few extra days. Hopefully this time next week you will be settled in Canada, though with the reports we're hearing on the fires, maybe you don't want to rush. I think you will find that book not only informative, but a very interesting read. Hook 'em Horns! (Aut is a Longhorn, working on her MBA.) Saying prayers for Sharona. She (and her family) have had so many health struggles.

JANA - I have to agree you do have some - um - interesting traffic issues. We are all too familiar with them. Sorry you got caught up in a snarl. Hard to imagine your Joseph running a marathon when just a few years ago he had a broken leg! Can't believe Baby Ethan is so big now! Our Drew was in size 14 shoes when he hit about 10th grade. And my Mike grew 8" in one year when he was about 14. I couldn't keep him in clothes! Do you have your deck railing finished yet for the big fireworks show and the anniversary party?

VAL - my sewing room is rarely what folks would call clean. Quilting is not a tidy endeavor. It's only clean if you aren't using it! And no one wants that! So revel in your mess! It's a sign of your creativeness. Did you say once that your DH retires in about 2 years? Do you plan to move out of Vallejo then? Doesn't sound like to a very fun place to live if it's not even safe to go to the farmers market. Bet you are counting the days to your vacation. We're not sure of our dates yet. This house business - to sell or not to sell - might put a wrinkle in our plans. If they give us the price we want, we'll sell and will have to start looking for a new place. If they don't, we won't. Still waiting on the developer. I'm just worried about where all the owls, bunnies, and squirrels will live if we sell because they will clear cut our woods and Vicki's. Plus, there is slight chance that Gene and Terry might come "out" (as Alaskans call it when they leave the state) and may travel with us - at least as far as our sisters in CO. So if they plan to do that, it will also dictate our dates. We would love if they did that.

LORI - how long will you be gone to your friend's? Taking some quilts along to quilt? Enjoy your trip! We will miss you. I got my wool down to a small tote, about the size of 1-1/2 shoeboxes. Includes patterns and my two Buttermilk Basin books.

MARY Q - oh yes, I know about Quilters Cache. It's one of the permanent tabs when I turn on my computer along with QIAD forum and Ancestry.com. I also have some of their blocks printed off and put in a binder. 4 baby quilts in less than a year. You are a lucky quilter! And as Lyn pointed out, you are also lucky to have a large stash to see you through the tough times - quilting times and maybe even, as Lyn pointed out, bartering times! So, did it rain last night? Or was it nice and there was room for grandparents at Evie's graduation? Was there a party afterward?

JUDI - you are really chugging along with your sewing projects as well as everything else in life! I like that Made in America quilt. I've seen it before, though maybe it was you who sent me a photo some time back. You are so organized to make that stitch book. My stitches are on the front and back of a plastic card I keep with my machine. I don't use 98% of them. How did the cranberry bread turn out? If you ADDED the cornstarch I can't imagine it would make much difference, but if you didn't put in the baking powder, you might have cranberry pancakes! Which would still taste good! Did you go to Ryker's game?

LOIS - we have an adirondack chair. It's all heavy duty molded plastic with a separate ottoman. In the summer, when I go outside looking for Bill, I often find him snoozing in it in the back yard under a tree. :D

FLO - I don't know how big your house is, but that's about the going price here for a roof for a moderate house, Our roof is about 8-10 years old. Prices have skyrocketed since then. I think Bill said he's going to go up on the roof and blow off the fir needles today and clean gutters. Good luck with your drainfield. We also have a septic tank and drainfield. Our county has a new law now that the tank has to be pumped and inspected every 3 years and if it fails, you are required to connect to city sewer - at a cost of about $15,000.

Lee & Lara are in Washington! Yay! They are in Vancouver, across the Columbia from Portland. Lee ordered their 1-ton Dodge duelly from a dealership there and they will probably be picking it up today. So they might be here this afternoon. Or maybe tomorrow. They aren't great communicators. And it will just a quick driveby to gather up some of their boxes and take them to the storage unit they've reserved in Silverdale - 30 miles further north. They won't be staying with us. Their trailer will be ready to move here on Wednesday. Then they will stay in our yard while they move into their new fifth-wheel and until they decide to start traveling. Our yard is free. The nearby RV park is $75/day.

I finished my Ohio Star yesterday - 61" square. I found backing in my backing stash - narrow red and white stripes, so I'll wash that today and I'll have another quilt ready for quilting. Our owls have been showing themselves near our deck in the evenings. A big mama owl and at least one junior. Last night junior was sitting on a big limb watching us while we talked to him. Mama swooped in and there was a bit of a rebellious 'teen' argument, junior got all fluffed up, and finally Mom flew off to another tree. They are so fun to watch! I will miss them if we move.

Wishing everyone full bobbins today!

Only a quickie from me today, lucky you. I need to be at the parents soon.

We will be shopping for a stove and eventually counter tops. I want to replace my gas slide in stove/oven but just want a basic turn it on set the timer oven. Not quite sure they make those anymore. Seems everything is wifi based.

My counter tops will not be Formica like my current tops and they won't be grouted tile. I don't need anything costly. Hoping I can find something reasonably priced, but that won't happen until after other kitchen things are in order.

No clue yet about what is for dinner, probably some rotisserie chicken with maybe broccoli or green beans, Yeah, maybe that.

Well girls, if I don't get started I will be behind. You all have a fantastically wonderful day

CHRISS - on countertops, granite prices are based on where they granite is extracted from - if it's really difficult to get out of the quarry - the price goes up. And, after having granite for 10 years, I personally think it's overrated. There are lots of new products now that fall between formica and granite. I'm sure you will find something that suits your tastes and your budget. And I agree - I don't need all the bells and whistles on my appliances. I don't need to have conversations with my refrigerator or stove. Just turn the dial and cook or bake. This is why I hope my fridge dies soon and my stove lives on forever!

Good morning!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Daniel has my credit card and is picking up more steel that he needs for the deck railings. He has been recycling the old and is fabricating what else he needs.

Yes, Lyn is right about about food storage and fabric too! The church teaches that we need a supply to eat and I also used that as I needed a large supply of fabric! I had four kids to keep clothes on! Mr G agreed and I now continue to use that same theory, that all the grands need quilts to stay warm with! Still works here! LOL!

Not much here. Sandee's truck will be at the shop awhile. A ton of recall issues and a couple of other things.

After breakfast, I'll be down stairs.

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning,

I was just on Facebook and Suzette posted something about the 4 major pattern companies are in liquidation so I also read that it's because of tariffs and due to Joann's going out of business.

Today I'm in my sewing room I have started my snowman quilt the background I'm using is a gray with snowflakes also going to be Scrappy.

Dinner tonight will be stir fry.

Mary z enjoy your visit with Laura and Lee.

Have a great day.
Prayers go out to all
Lois

Chriss - here's my 2 cents on counter tops too.

I ave light granite. I do love them. Easy to wipe off. But expensive to put in. And then, because of their weight, the cabinets have to be built sturdier. There are many composite counter tops. Back years ago, my friend went with a brand name Corian, a composite type. She set her waffle iron on the counter to make a batch and the space under her waffle iron, burnt, turned a black color on her white tops! She was mad! So beware, as the resins have issues. Sarah has soapstone, which she loves, but has to maintain often. Oh, the edges can chip if you drop something against them. No one told me that, so I have a couple of edge chips, which you can't see because of my coloring.

Overcast and rain in the forecast.

Judi, I think I will copy your idea on a stitch book.

Chriss, We have granite at the Colorado house, Corian in the MH and the people that built the Texas house liked tile and grout for counter tops, I hate it. The Corian looks like marble, a swirl type look, it's off white. I hope to replace the Texas counter tops in a year or two.

MaryZ, You are more patient than I. I would tell the Realtor you need their offer by a set date or they can come back next year and try, but you're going on a trip and not waiting around. As for your animal and bird neighbors, I would think the plans the bulider has would include some open space to preserve some trees and such. In Ft Collins, CO, the city requires builders to leave some big trees and develop around them. If you're going to teach again at the library, there was that square in a square table topper I sent you a photo of. I can send again if you're interested.

Well Minnie and I aren't moving very fast today. It's nice not to have to be anywhere today. I need stock up on Minnie treats, so may run to a pet shop that's near a QS. Then I could also buy some stabilizer for the stitch book. And laundry will be waiting when I return.

Prayers for those in need of them. Have a good day.
Lyn

Buttonholes -

On my Pffaf, i have a automatic buttonhole stitch. I put on the special foot and mine has a plug in the machine. Call up the program. There's a number - it corresponds to the number on the card of buttons. Like, 13, 14, 15, etc. I select the right size and place the fabric, voile, perfect buttonholes every time! They have made it so much easier than the old days! Now you know, if you didn't already what the number is used for. Now I don't use the inch reference anymore. I also use tear away stabilizer underneath, keeps the hole smooth as it stitches.

After reading about the pattern company issue, I am very glad I have carefully saved all my patterns! I have 4 file drawers, double wide, holding all the patterns. I have them all cataloged by number, so I can find what I want.

Now to worry about zippers and thread!

Jana
