FRIDAY, June 6th, 2025
Good morning,
LOIS - I love batiks and think they give depth and texture to almost any quilt but I think it would be especially pretty for stained glass.
VAL - When in Sept are you planning to leave on your trip? We haven't set any dates yet, mostly because we've had other things to think about, but after Labor Day when the summer traffic is off the highways. Now, we're not sure if we're going to be selling our house and property. We may have to hang around for that. Plus, Bill might be having the lump on his thyroid removed so if that happens, not sure when. But we'll see what happens. Wouldn't it be a hoot if we showed up in St. Michael at the same time??
JANA - Summer vacation! I remember how exciting that was when I was a kid! A whole summer, stretching endlessly in front of us - SUMMER!! You do have excitement in your life! I'll be looking for the rest of that story! Don't forget - Irish has a half-dozen kittens looking for good homes! She doesn't deliver. But PA would be a fun road trip, don't you think? Our Michael's sells fabric, though a limited amount, and it's in the far back corner of the store. You would miss it if you didn't know it was there. Maybe now they'll add more.
LORI - Our elder law attorney advised that a revocable trust is best - for us anyway. And we are both trustees. He said this will streamline things for our executrix (my niece, or if she can't, then Bill's niece), when the time comes. I love Primitive Gatherings stuff. I should do more of that kind of stuff than the big cross stitch projects I tend to work on.
JUDI - I think a card for the extra graduate is nice and maybe $20 would be appreciated. Have you had much quality time with your new machine? Have you decided yet what your first project on it will be?
TINA - we all need a day off from life now and then. I hope you're not too busy to stop by and say 'hi' tomorrow!
CHRISS - how did your day with Elliott go? Did you stock up on hugs and kisses? What is the kids' new house like? Did they buy or are they renting?
MARY Q - Heads up! You might be having company this fall!
FLO - roofs (or is it rooves?) are very expensive. Our friend just redid his to the tune of $30,000. That is a big hit to the bank account! Hope your weeds are down to manageable size now and you are in your sewing room, and smiling!
Now sewing yesterday. Though I did go look at my red/white blocks a few times. I had to stop at the store after my appointment to get sugar and pectin. Then I made two batches of strawberry jam. Turns out a half-flat is exactly enough for 2 batches of 8 oz jars. I have a total of 19 jars with a half jar in the fridge to use now. Then I spent an hour or two fixing our happy hour foods - cheese/meat/crackers, olives, fruits, pickles, veggies, chips, cookies, chocolates. We had a great visit with our friends and everyone went home by 7:15. Leftovers were put away, kitchen cleaned, and I was in my jammies by 7:30. Today I have no plans. I might do some laundry. I might sit on the deck and read. And I hope to finish my Ohio Star top. Then I guess next I'll start quilting my Mr. and Mrs. Santa Posh wallhangings on my Bernie. I could also make labels. There are, or will be after today, 4 quilts in the QQ - GMFG Hexie, embroidered Through the River..., BeWitched, and Ohio Star that will need labels soon.
Also, because I'm slow at noodling things out sometimes, I've been thinking on what simple thing to teach if I'm asked to teach another quilting class this winter. I was thinking of a single block this time. But what block? Thoughts? Suggestions?
My daughter, Lara, and her hubby, Lee should be here this weekend! I'm excited! I haven't seen her in 3 years and then it was just for a short visit over a restaurant dinner. They won't be staying with us but have rezzies at a hotel closer to Drew's house, 30 miles north of us. (Drew is their older son). But we have all their stuff so we'll be seeing them.
Well, your eyeballs are probably twitching by now so I better close this and go shower. Have a marvy day!

Re: FRIDAY, June 6th, 2025
Good morning It is rain again, so no windows..but thats ok I have another friend that is picking me up for breakfast/lunch in about an hour. I offered to make lunch but she said nope too much work...So this mornong I made a loaf of Maryq's Moms cranberry bread, and cleaned up the kichen...I hoping it turns out as good as the last loaf...I kind of boo bood instead of the baking powder i grapped the corn startch,,,but Im sure it will be ok..I did add the baking powder too..( my baking supplies are in canning jars to keep in the pantry longer. I was in a hurry) House is semi cleaned up and I did get the binding on the garden quilt...My new machine did fine, After i get the binding sewn I will take some time to research the stiches on this new machine,,,documenting where they are with a stitch book. I did this with my babylock and it was valuable and saved time when I was looking for stitches,,,
I cleaned up the sewing room since my friend wants to see my new machine, And it was sort of a disaster...but al is well now.
Maryz I hope you get to spend quality time with your DD and family.. 3 yrs wow I cannot imagine, i will be fun Im sure, My next project after all these UFO are done is a quilt called "Made in America" By Laundry Basket Quilts...Its an easy pattern and I may make a second one for a female QOV quilt it can be made with more feminie RW&B...
Flo when we had a septic tank it was a challenge what to use and what not to use to keep it working well...I rememeber putting Ridex in the toilets..
Lois house is cleaned and a new lawn chair...I would be outside with a book or some hand sewing,,,
Everyone I will give the boy a card and some $$ THey wont open their cards at the party and I doubt he will even know if we did or didnt, ( kids care about how much not from who) but I will know I included him and that is ok.
Hope you all have a great day. We have a basebal game to go to at 630 if it dries up. Ryker is playing so a "take me out to the ballgame" kinda day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning!
Sizing up to be a wonderful day here. Warming and most likely a thunderstorm too. In a couplecof minutes, I need to jump in the shower and find a not so scary face 8n the drawer. Sometime later this morning I need to get Daniel and Sandee from the car dealership after they drop of the truck. Daniel is making sure that Sandee doesn't get taken advantage of. He watches out for her.
Not much going on here. Sarah's DH is picking up his bib number today. He's running a marathon tomorrow. That's the 26 mile type race. He enjoys that. I think he's nuts! This is his fun. LOL! No more story from Aaron. Much of the time, he can't say and this one involves a teen, so Aaron behaves. It's getting to be that time, when Utahns burn down the state. Fireworks season. Each loc city starts in about a week, celebrating that town's heritage and has firework shows. Herriman is in about 2 weeks. A big parade, rodeo, carnival and firework display. Then comes the 4th of July and the people go ape , shooting off personal fireworks. Well, I have a nice new deck with expansive views of the valley to watch. Just need a couple of nice new deck recliners.
My Ethan is no longer a little. That boy has shot up and towers over Sarah, but that's easy, she's short, but he's now taller than me, by a bunch. I'm not short! And has feet to match, size 14! Good thing it's summer and shorts season. We can't keep him in long pants, they become shorts on their own! Ethan is getting close to a 36 inch inseam!
Finished the quilt binding. But I will ship it to Texas for Andrew. No room in the suit case. He's allowed a regular suitcase and a carry on and a backpack. That's it for all he's wearing for the next 2 years. His clothes consist of slacks and white shirts, with ties.
Well, time to shower and feed the hungry Grump.
Hugs,
Jana

Re: FRIDAY, June 6th, 2025
Good Morning Girls
Guess I better type fast this morning, I'm still in jammies and have a few things on my to do list--like clean up messes from yesterday's to-do list!
Maryz.... Have you ever heard of Quilters Cache web site? When I first started quilting I ran across that site and it literally has THOUSANDS of quilt block patterns. I've printed out 2 huge binders for of them. You can search by size and by name alphabetically. If you need help, I can send you a link--or to your IT tech. Oh how fun it would be to have lots of company this fall! Save enough time for a trip to my fabric warehouse! A total of 4 baby quilts this year:
Meaghan's little girl Norah, Samantha's little boy Everett, Dan & Erin's little girl due in August and Mackenzie & Nate's unknown due in December.
Flo ... Oh what fun.... getting the "Honey Wagon" to come drain the septic tank. Do you have drain fields too? I had a septic at the house from 1986-2001 (when city sewer was finally put in) and the lovely green streaks through my yard where the drain field went!! Yikes... that's a lot for a roof!! Are you sure you don't have some hail damage up there?
Lois... Now that sounds like a perfect patio chair---Adirondack with the ottoman!! Sorry it was such a challenge to get it put together! Hope you get to spend some time on it!
Judi... Not that I'm a baking expert but I'm thinking 1 tsp of corn starch shouldn't make much of a difference--who knows, it might improve it! I think back in the day, My Mom's original recipe called for water and we changed it up to orange juice--thinking it would have better flavor! Great Idea to stitch out your fancy stitches! I usually do a little practice swatch before I actually use one on an item---on my machine a lot seems to depend on the fabric I'm sewing.
Jana.... Isn't it amazing how those boys just all of a sudden just Sprout up! Nolan is taller than I am now and when I see Eli in AK in July--he will be at least as tall as me--he's 5-1 and I've shrunk to 5-2.5". I saw the news about Michael's too--buying Joann's brand. When I was in Canada when the kids were there--the Michael's store carried really nice fabric. At $22.00/yd in Canadian $ of course - which today would be about $16/yd. I hope they will carry more here as there is a big beautiful store not far from my house!
Valerie... We must be quilting twins---I too get bored very easily and often sew on 2-4 different projects in the same day! Some days I sew at my Janome, while my embroidery machine is running and then since my featherweight is on the dining room table--I'll sew on that while supper is cooking. It used to bother me that I kind of went from one thing to another, but I've accepted it and it's just the way I roll. I just have a short attention span and wonder how I stayed married for 28 years---except that marriage is rarely boring!
Lori... Are you able to get good fruit and veggies at your farmers markets? The stuff we get up here and only so-so. The strawberries are often terrible and not even all the ripe. I'm hoping to get to a local farmers market sometime this summer and I'd really like to can some tomatoes and make some salsa, and maybe some good pickles. I have a recipe for pickles that only need to be overnight in the fridge!! --not sweet ones--good dill!!
Chriss... I had to count on my fingers-- Elliott is 9 months old???? Holy cow!!! Did you say Marilyn was coming to visit? How is she doing with her boyfriend? She is the same age as my Kaya--who has started her own house cleaning business in Anchorage! Did you get your new microwave installed?
Guess I better get in gear. going to throw on some grubby clothes for now and do a few chores . Will take my shower later. Tonight is Evie's High school graduation and I'm crossing my fingers that we don't have rain pass through as the ceremony is scheduled to be outside! If they have to move it inside there is no room for grandparents!
Wishing you all a delightful day!

Re: FRIDAY, June 6th, 2025
Maryq, yes, we get great fruits and veggies from the farmers market. California is the biggest agricultural grower in the US so we get pretty good stuff at the grocery store as well. It's fresher and more flavorful from the farmers market though.
Jana, Jonathan's ex runs marathons in Utah all the time. She would sign up for the Disney ones too. I don't run unless someone is chasing me with a knife. So that would be never.
Judi, you are quite busy with friends this week. How fun for you. I like that quilt by Laundry basket quilts.
Lois, pancakes sound yummy. I might have to make some.
Maryz, if there is more people in the trust to inherit, it's better to have it irrevocable. My parents did it because my brother was bi-polar and I was to take care of his needs should he have lived. I bet you are excited to see the kids. I sorted my wool and got it down to one box. Yay me.
Chriss, how was Elliott day? Did you get lots of snuggles and kisses in?
It's cool again this morning. We've already walked and I'm currently on hold with Talbots for a return/reorder. I called last night and left my number for a call back. They called back and no one was on the line so I decided to do it this morning. I'm heading to AZ on Monday and need to pick up some things today. Probably leftovers or cereal for dinner.
Have a lovely day.

Re: FRIDAY, June 6th, 2025
Good morning everyone, TGIF!
Lori we rarely go to the farmers markets anymore. The one in town is just not a safe place, and the ones in Napa Sonoma, Vacaville, are pretty close to the same price as the grocery stores.
Maryq just as soon as I figure out how to use my embroidery machine, I will be using my Janome to sew, while the embroidery machine does its thing too. I'm thinking of next weekend trying to figure that out. DH it's gone fishing with his cousin this weekend, and I'll need him to help me put the embroidery unit on.
Jana sometimes I feel bad for the missionaries.Especially when they're in a hot weather, climate. Shirts with ties can get quite uncomfortable in the heat. But I do understand the reasons for them.
Judi i have given up on trying to keep the sewing room clean. It is as clean as it's going to get. The rest of the house is not bad but it's never perfect. I just don't have the back and arm power to do that.
Lois i love those chairs, but I really have nowhere to put one.
Flo roofs are getting quite pricey. I don't remember our exact cost, but we are paying it off at almost two hundred and sixty dollars a month.
Maryz we are leaving bright and early on september fourth. And I believe our return date is the twenty ninth. We will head to south dakota first and from there, onto minnesota. So minnesota will be somewhere around the eighth. Still mapping things out. I wanted to spend this weekend starting to make reservations but somebody got into my checking account. So my atm card is null and void. Waiting for the new one, but 7 to 10 business days. Today is the fifth.
Chriss report on Elliott please. Oh, and by the way, there is no way he can be nine months old already.
Need to get some cutting done today and my hair washed. Not sure what else. Have a great weekend everybody

A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

Re: FRIDAY, June 6th, 2025
It happened again! Went across the valley to pick up Daniel and Sandee at the dealership. Daniel said, use Bangeter Hwy , it's faster. NOT! Just as soon as we were past the last place to get off before all the road construction, poof, all stopped, three freeway lanes worth of traffic. So we crept on and came across the accident. No one hurt, bat about 5 cars totalled. It was a mess! Too much speed, too close together.
In living here for nearly 14 years, it has gotten so much worse! Saw a license plate holder once, it said, pray for me, I drove in Utah! So true!

Re: FRIDAY, June 6th, 2025
A late hello check in.
Jana, Traveling several states, sadly I have to tell you that that's the norm these days.
We've had a hick up here and won't leave until maybe Wednesday or later.
A happy report, I received my Sew-Ezi insert to use my 570QE on my table. I will set it up tomorrow after I get some laundry going.
Chriss, Congratulations to your kids getting a new home. As like everyone else, Elliott report please.
MaryZ, Did your kids get there, or that's tomorrow? Sorry, I read your post several hours ago. I bought the book you recommended, came yesterday with lots of supplements from Amazon.
To those with working down the stash, don't get too carried away. Memory just popped in my head. When I lived in West Jordan, UT, 1985 - 1992, which is a little east of Jana, I went to a sewing thing. It may have been at a JoAnn's. Anyway the presenter noted that having a fabric stash was a good thing. Knowing how those of the L.D.S. faith stored food, she reasoned that fabric was just as important because it could be traded just like food if something really bad happened in our country. Good memory, thanks Jana for jogging that one.
After 9 p.m. CDT. Watching the College women's softball world series. Texas Hornhorns against Texas Tech. If we want to stay friends with our BFF, we are cheering for the Texas Longhorns. Lol
A contacted Sharona, please keep her in your prayers.
As I have always told my kids, God Bless, Good night, Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite.
Lyn
