Tuesday May 20th, 2025

Post by grammiequilts » Tue May 20, 2025 4:36 am

Good morning It is chilly this morning woke up to 41. We will only get to 58 today,,,Bring out the jackets again, I have laundry started. and the dishwasher emptied, I think Chicken noodle soup for supper.
If my LQS calls I will go pick up my new machine, She said Tuesday but we all know how deliveries are,,,I did watch the videos on Utube to give me an idea what Im looking at, If she offers me a class I will take it, but itis mostly learning the touch screen and the new bobbin system The bobbin is larger than other machines which is great to not run out of thread in the middle to sewing,,,My babylock tells you when the bobbin is running out and this machine does it too..
Speaking of sewing I still havent finished putting on all the borders and may try to get to that today,,,Yesterday I hit our spare room and packed up 6 bags to go to the goodwill/salvation army, One of them doesnt take electronics and I have an old gaming system and a vcr player to go. I did the windows in there and they were very dirty,,,I am half done with the windows...I have 15 to go...in 4 rooms. I noticed dust on the wood floors and it is dry mopping time too....
Coofee is drank and the washer is done hope you all have a great day. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

A chilly 38° here. I have been bringing my 3 outside plants in and out, but I forgot last evening. Guess I will find out how they liked the cold overnight.

Judi, I hope you get your new Bernina today.

I'm up early, have to have the Jeep to the Ft Collins dealership by 8:30 to see what's wrong with the emergency brake.

Hope y'all have a great day.

I have been working on my sunflower quilt I have 1 more block to sew together and then I can put all the rows together.
That will be done today they don't say to put a border on it but I will put one on anyway.
I might take a trip to hobby lobby for batting a backing the next couple of days we are going to get some heavy rain storms so I think I will go today.

Well that's all the news from here.
Have a great day.
Prayers go out to all.

Good morning,

JUDI - yay! It's Tuesday!! New Bernie Day! Being on my third Bernie since 1990, I would recommend taking a class to learn how to use it. I bought my current machine in 2018. It's a B480 (much like your B570). My old Bernie (B430) at that time was 10 years old and basically the same model. And yet I was very frustrated learning the new one until I caved in and went for the class. My problems were solved in that class. We were at our Sew'n'Vac store yesterday looking at new sewing chairs (didn't buy one) and checked out your new baby. It's almost identical to my machine except the bobbin alert and the embroidery capacity. I hope you love it! Congrats to Ken! 80 pounds is another small person! I bet he is his doctor's star patient. You are closing in on those windows. What's the word on the hearing aides? Didn't find a chair any better than the one I already have.

LORI - If you don't mind, I'm going to pray for a cat (or two) to wander by and adopt you. Giving you a heads up . Be prepared. Stock up on tuna.

VAL - I Googled Blueberries and Cream quilt and there are two by that name. One is by Bunny Hill. The other didn't give a designer. I liked them both, but wondered which one you are doing. Or perhaps there is a third one??

LYN - That must have been scary for Amanda, driving while dodging tornadoes! When I was 16, my younger sis and I were on a trip to the east coast with our parents. I recall Daddy pulling off the road and they got out to watch a funnel cloud and my parents talking in hushed tones, probably discussing what to do, where to go. I didn't pay much attention as I was in the back seat, writing a letter to my boyfriend. I couldn't be distracted by a mere tornado! $10 seems a lot to pay to park for a small town quilt show. Did that include entrance fee or just parking? Or did you hang around to find out? I hope the Jeep repair isn't too expensive.

JANA - what a great gift you found for Andrew! 1400 pages should keep him occupied for a while! I Googled that author just for kicks. Though his genre is not my thing, his books looked very interesting for someone who does love sci-fi.

LOIS - I'm looking forward to seeing your sunflower quilt! Are you using the sew kind of wonderful ruler?

CHRISS - did I miss you yesterday? A day without Chriss is a day without sunshine!

MARY Q - you are home now. I hope you have a great time! Did you go garage sale hopping? Find anything? Welcome home!

My chiropractor said to find a sewing chair (and adjust the car seat) so the leading edge of the seat cants downward a bit and the back backward about 10 degrees. We went to Sew & Vac store and I tried all their chairs. None seemed to fit me and for $400 I didn't want to buy one and hope for the best. But they did tell me about a "bungee chair" and showed me the manager's chair. I sat in it and it was probably the best of the lot. They don't sell them, but found them for me on several different websites, Amazon, Wayfair, and more. The manager adds a cushion to her chair. I'm still thinking. These chairs run about $200. We came home and I decided to weed out my cookbook collection. Most of them were the annual Taste of Home and LIght & Tasty editions which I rarely use. I had a few recipes marked, so I copied them to recipe cards, and pitched the books. This left me with 1-1/2 empty shelves to move some quilt books into. Which then gave me more space in my sewing room for fabric, tools, supplies, whatever.

This morning we are going to the ENT about the lump on Bill's thyroid. His biopsy results came back "inconclusive". Frustrating. Not sure where we're going from here but maybe we'll find out today. Just wish it didn't take so long to get these appointments. My sciatica is still here but I think I might have it on the run. Taking two days off from life seems to have really helped. After Bill's appt I have eye dr appt and then another acupuncture appt. A full day!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Good morning!

Bright and lovely and the rain has moved on, somewhere else. A nice thing to share water!

Don't have much planned for today. I got the pantry organized yesterday and everything put away. Now I can see what I may need that I forgot from the restocking run the other day. I didn't notice that I missed much. My freezers need a bit of attention today. Mr G says there's no room for anything more. I really doubt that. His idea of not having any room, is that there's one thing on a shelf, so the shelf is full! I'm sure there's plenty of room.

So now my dilemma is, what do you wear to a 50th wedding anniversary party? Mine. It's in my backyard and casual. In August, around 6 or 7 in the evening. Utah can be warm then, 100 is quite possible, and it could be in the middle of monsoon season, with a thunderstorm. Sandals are a definite. I'm a jeans and t-shirt girl, so what do I waer? Your help is soooooo needed! All suggestions are needed! There is only one local store that carries large sizes, so I order mostly on line and need time for the shipping.

Time to get going, I have a bathroom that needs cleaning, then feed the zoo, and then I can play!

Hugs,
Jana

JANA, our friends just celebrated their 50th anniversary. She ordered two or three different gold tops from online outlets. When they came, she made her choice and sent the rest back. A gold top with black jeans would look great.

Mz
PS. And I think some gold deely- bobbers on your head would make a nice fashion accessory.

Good Morning Girls

"Lulu's back in town!!!" That's what my mom used to say all the time when she returned from a trip!!! Remember last week when I was debating about turning on the AC.... this morning I had to switch the system from AC back to HEAT! We are at 44 this morning, and raining and it sure doesn't look like there's any improvement in the forecast. Think I'll stay kind of tucked in for a few days!

Had a great time over the weekend. Spent one day going to various garage sales and the biggest score was a bag full of baby girl clothes for $1. each outfit ---new with the tags still on! Picked up a Christmas wall hanging and table runner kit for a few bucks and some yarn. Since I certainly don't need any more doo-dads around here, I kind of concentrated on baby clothes. Kris and I worked a little on (attempting) to organize Viv's sewing room. Picture a quilt shop after a tornado went through and that's Viv's room! Kris knows how to run the LA so she did a little of that for Viv. Always great to go, but always great to get home. Had planned to stop at a couple Joanns on the way, but just couldn't do it. Nothing I needed there anyway.

Judy... I looked up your new machine!! OMG it's gorgeous!!! You got the one with the embroidery unit? That's a whole other learning curve from the regular machine. You will have so much fun with that. If you decide to tackle some embroidery with it, I have a source for great embroidery designs! Be careful tho... it's easy to go crazy busy designs--I speak from experience.

Lyn... A little chilly in Colorado too? Snow in the mountains? Probably a good idea to get those brakes fixed!!!

Lois.... You are getting rain too? Sounds the whole country is having some really nasty weather. Over the weekend I heard little bits of the news about tornados and thunder storms. I'd love to see you sunflower quilt.

Maryz.... I'm chuckling at cleaning out the cookbooks!!! You know how much I like to cook---NOT--- but guess who has a collection of cookbooks! My "go- to" is a Betty Crocker one I think I got as a wedding shower gift in 1973. It's taped together here and there and has lots of notes written all over it. Yes, I had a great time in Wisconsin. Kris made Chocolate Martinis!!! I think I had too many one night!!   Hope you can find the right chair. Kevin got me one a few years back that's just an office chair and seems to work ok, but I have looked at others too that look to be more supportive! It's on the list of "when I win the lottery" to buy

Jana.... Here's my little piece of advice for an outfit for your 50th Anniversary--BE COMFORTABLE! If you were going to have to be dressed up for just an hour, I'd so go with something fancy, but for a big party.. Be comfortable!! When we had my folks 50th party, we hired a photographer, so if you are planning that and would like nice formal family pictures, I'd say find an outfit for pictures and then go back to comfy clothes.

Lori.... When time to get a new cat comes, you'll know.

Chriss... How are things going at your house? How is your little Elliott doing?

Well, I suppose I better get going. Last Wednesday I went to run the dishwasher and it totally broke down-- all the lights on it went crazy so I had to turn the circuit breaker off and leave it until I got home!! Not sure what is going on but looks like I'll be washing dishes by hand for a while. That's first up on today's to-do list. Then I'll sort through the baby clothes I bought and give them a wash up. It was so fun shopping for baby girl clothes!

And of course I need more coffee!

Wishing you all a wonderful Tuesday!!

Good morning ladies, in the midst of cleaning the kitchen and taking a back break. Have one more counter, the sink and the floor and then done.

Maryz I am doing the Bunny Hill one. I didn't even know about the other, it looks pretty simple though. I told DH to go look at the blues on the wall last night and he never came back and said anything. So, did he look, or does he not like them. I will have to wait until tonight to find out. Kinda wanted to maybe start cutting today, but........

Jana I vote for jeans and a gold top also, or, you both could get matching custom T-shirts. Google it, there are many to choose from and they aren't really pricey. I went shopping yesterday and didn't take long after I got home that I missed some things. We make our shopping list as we go along here, the only problem is DH forgets to put it on there, or waits till we are down to 1.

Lyn no driving in tornados for me. I have actually thouoght about that when we are off for our trip. Is there anywhere in the country that has tornados in September? I am pretty sure they are seasonal aren't they. Hope the plants did okay. At least at 38 it's not quite freezing but it depends on the type of plant.

Oh Lois, thanks for the reminder, I need to get batting. Was at the shop yesterday but they were having some sort of issue so just picked up my KT quilt and went on about my business. Maybe I can go to hobby lobby too today, it is closer than the quilt shop. I rarely go there but for batting it might be a good choice.

Judi 62 here, supposed to get to 82 so I best get the AC going. It is small and if I want the whole house to be adequately cool, I need to get it on early. If the house gets much above 70, it just is not powerful enough to cool.

Lori the Kira pattern is so much easier than it looks. If you are using a layer cake though, it requires a full 10 inches to cut. I would measure them first. I have considered the guilds here but I hear a lot of negative stuff from the girls that belong to them or have quit. Not my idea of fun. I don't think they have well known teachers either. Many of the participants teach the classes.

Well back to my cleaning, break is over. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning. It's going to be a wonderful day today.

Judi, keep that phone near by you at all times today so you don't miss that call to pick up your new machine, how exciting for you.

Lyn, hoping the plants are ok. I planted the garden and even had a few green tomatoes on the vine when Mother Nature chose to dump hail on the whole lot. Thankfully they were ok, maybe yours will be too. I also wouldn't pay $10 to park at an event. Our localish quilt show is $10 to get in but free parking. I also like potatoes, preferably baked, lately I have been using cauliflower in place of potatoes for potato salad. I buy frozen, let it thaw and dry and add the salad fixin's, it's pretty good.

Maryz, chairs are important, amazing how expensive they are. I have sat in those bungee chairs, they are very comfy. Hope Bill get some thyroid answers.

Jana, happy 50th. Grandpa always had a Blair catalog that he ordered from. He would call it "An affair from Blair" I was more a Woman Within girl. Both have great selections in all sizes. Whatever you chose to wear be comfortable, it will be quite warm and a back yard sould be comfy.

Maryq, I have one cook book, it's from the local historical society. I have some printed pages in the book from recipes off the internet but that's it. I also don't like to cook. Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend.

Valerie, happy kitchen cleaning. Your bunny hill quitl is going to be so pretty.

So yesterday I walked down to get the mail and on the way back up the driveway I was feeling dizzy, I actually passed out. I think the lack of water during the day didn't help. I woke up on the ground and thankfully no buzzards were flying around. I have a sore side but no bruising. I will be glad when I am done with antibiotics and can get back to my old self.

Today I need groceries. I won some gift certificates in a raffle for the grocery store in town so I will go spend them rather that go to bigger stores in another town.

But first, breakfast and a shower. Dinner tonight will be something chicken.

Have a groovy day,
Chriss
