Sunday April 6th 2025
Good morning it is cold and cloudy today, high 47. Low in the 20s...not very spring like.
Today i will try to tackle the basement storage, Ken saves so much stuff it is time. A friend is having surgery and might need to borrow all the medical equipment that is stored there,,,so it will be a good time to sort it out.
We have a lot of old paint that needs to go to the recycling center too...if it is liquid the Habitat for humanity will take it, so that is my plan...Ken is working on making the bar he wants in the basement, We ordered some cabinets and bought a sink for there, so maybe he can mark that off his bucket list now that the truck in done...Liam has other ideas about the truck but then again Liam isnt buying,,,lol
I did work on the embroidery still not happy but I will keep trying to get it neat, This quilt might be a lot smaller than I planned,,,it originally calls for 72 blocks...we shall see...
Well I hope you are all doing well and having a great sunday,,,XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: Sunday April 6th 2025
Good morning,
I slept late this morning. To make up for going to bed early, I guess. I slept 8-1/2 hours. I'm usually happy if I can get in 7. I tired myself out with yard work yesterday but sure got a lot done.
JUDI - Liam has really had a lot of fun with Ken's pick-up and learned a lot no less. And not all about mechanicing, either! What a lucky kid! What lucky grandparents! Good luck cleaning the storage area. And about your embroidery - perhaps you should do the easier blocks first to build muscle memory and get some more practice under your belt, then the harder ones, aka, the ones that require satin stitching. That's what I did with my NYB and it's really helped me tackle the more intense blocks.
LOIS - Funny how plans morph into something other than what we'd planned! I cleaned my linen closet last summer and wonder of wonders, it's still tidy! Though I should ditch some more things for sure.
JANA - I looked up your L.H. pattern and I saw that it's name is Flea Market Flowers but I say you get to call it whatever you like. I changed Gypsy Wife to Gypsy Dancer and Dear Jane to Crazy Jane. If I can do it, you can, too! Do you plan to start it soon? If I remember correctly, your Mr. G had Covid in October~ish and his heart surgery was in June of the next year. Was it 2021? I know both really messed up your lives for a long time.
CHRISS - Did you find anything irresistable at the garage sales? Garage sale season is just starting here. I love them, but don't go nearly as often as I'd like. But if I were there, I'd go with you! I like your dad's philosophy - do what you can as long as you can. It keeps you moving. And yesterday your gramma was advising peanut butter whiskey at bedtime to help me sleep - or maybe that was brandy. Either way, I love your family!
MARY Q - I wouldn't worry too much about those memory issues. There is a big difference normal memory problems and Alz and/or dementia. Everyone I know has them. And once, when I was in my late 30's I found I'd put the milk into the dish cupboard - which has clear glass doors! I often have trouble calling up a word I want to say. And I'm going to call that NORMAL! Have fun at the shower. Do we know yet what name they have chosen? Though I won't hold them to it if they change their mind when they meet their little daughter.
LYN - see!! More "pedestal work"! How you do it all constantly amazes me. Putting your fabrics on those shelves is going to be your reward for your patience and perseverance. I know you've got this covered, but if your fabrics are going to sit on shelves through the summer, have you thought of covering it all with old sheets to keep dust at bay and avoid fading? Ditto your LA and frame. I got old sheets at thrift shops and keep everything covered when not in use.
LORI - I think taking a break from dad's house is a good idea. Do you have eventual plans for it as in selling, renting, or moving into it yourself? There's probably no rush. Enjoy your own stuff for a while. And yes, we did make out great on the food. Our entire supper last night and the night before was courtesy of G & T. And we still have lots more.
Yesterday morning I prepped the last 3 regular NYB blocks. Foxy was sleeping in my sewing chair so I decided to prepare my foundation patterns and pull fabrics instead of sew. After these, I'll start the four center blocks. I'm starting to chew my nails at the prospect of paper piecing the border. I spent the afternoon in the yard and got one whole section of the back yard cleaned, and 'refreshed'. I dug up what turned out to be about 35 iris rhizomes that had been there for many years and replanted them in Foxy's favorite flowerbed. I hope he doesn't dig them out! I got in a full 4 hours of yard work which anymore is a lot for me. My broccoli cheese soup, which I've never made, turned out pretty tasty. Bill even commented on it as he went back for seconds! And he hates broccoli! I added in diced celery, onion, carrots, garlic. Turns out the flavor-enhancing herb in the recipe (which I made up myself from 3 other recipes I found) is nutmeg. I would never have thought that.
Today is going to be chilly and rainy so guess I'll go back to my NYB. And I might do laundry. We might have leftover soup for supper. But maybe I'll make some baking powder biscuits to go with. I have Chickie's recipe (and I've had her biscuits, too!) and mine aren't as good as hers, but they are tasty.
Wishing you all endless bobbins!

Re: Sunday April 6th 2025
Good morning!
Beautiful, bright and sunny. Warming up too. Maybe Spring is back. While Sarah was on their trip, it rained, thundered and snowed. Spring is finicky!
Today are the last two sessions of General Conference. Yesterday's were wonderful! Fussed around in the Batt Cave and will do it again today. My little girls want to come and decorate my Easter bunnies through out the house. They'll come over after Conference this afternoon.
We have fun with memory issues here. Mr G has started calling things by the wrong name since covid. The TV remote is referred to as the water meter. We have always called some things by our own names, even street names . After all these years of being married, I understand what is what., and smile. My kids have done word switching since they were little. Sidewalk is a walk-side, lawn mower, is a mow-lawner and boxcar is a car-box. Even into the grands do it. Lots of fun here!
I don't plan to start the LH quilt for a short time. Just getting my ducks in a row, with all tools needed. I have the kit of fabric already and the rulers and templates will be here next week. So I'll just keep plugging away on OWL. I would like to have a few of the stash kits done before my new one arrives in September. That's the one that Sarah wanted too. It was a pre-order Kimberbell kit.
Time to make breakfast. I think the orange stuffed french toast croissants won out. The croissant is split, stuffed with a sweetened cream cheese and a layer of orange marmalade. I make a syrup using orange juice, sugar and thickened with cornstarch. The croissant is soaked in the standard French toast batter and then cooked. They are yummy. I have some sausage too.
Hugs,
Jana

Re: Sunday April 6th 2025
A chilly 45°, feels like 39°, this morning and very breezy.
Memory, I do some of the same things both Mary's have mentioned. I do take a supplement that's for memory, PhosphatidylSerine. Years ago I read a study that was done. They gave some college students the supplement and some a placebo. The ones taking the supplement did better at recall on tests.
I unloaded a few more things out of the trailer, as I was hunting for the bag of plastic connectors for the shelves. I still haven't found it. I even called DGD hoping she would remember, cause she's young, but she doesn't know either. I'm now thinking I may have put the zip lock in a box with books. I will pull them out and look. I'm trying to not unload a lot until I get the shelves up. I guess I was so intent on packing the trailer, that I lost sight what should have been at the door and needed first, when I opened it.
If it gets to 55° as they claim, I will open the trailer and hunt. In the meantime, I will print off the needed forms for the boat.
May you all have a Blest Sunday.
Lyn
Oops, forgot to answer MaryZ. My fabric is in totes, or plastic bags. I will have the windows covered with the blackout curtains to keep it cooler this summer. I will get a sheet to cover the HQS16, thanks for reminding me.

Re: Sunday April 6th 2025
Good Morning Girls
So nice to see the sun shine this morning, and it just might warm up enough to leave the winter coat in the closet!! My Corinne turned 16 the other day and the party is this afternoon at Sara's folks house, just down the road from me!
Judi... Always interesting to clean out a storage area... who knows what all you will find down there! All my "stuff" is stored up in my attic in the garage and since I can't climb up there, I have NO idea what is up there other than Christmas stuff! I think the kids will have to deal with it after I'm gone.
Lois... When you are on a roll for cleaning and rearranging it's not hard to get distracted! I do my best closet cleaning when I'm looking for something and can't find it!! How fun to get new towels etc. Every time I walk through Target and see pretty new towels---well it takes all my strength to keep them from jumping in my cart!
Maryz... The Shower was wonderful and Meaghan received a lot of wonderful gifts, lots of darling baby girl things and the bassinet she was hoping for. I wish they had some of those great baby things in our day!! I think she has narrowed down the name, but wasn't telling yesterday. I suppose you make those biscuits from scratch!! I do love a good BP biscuit with honey butter, but I'm lazy and grab the frozen Pillsbury ones!
Jana... Funny what kids will call things.. My nieces would call sunglasses "Tongue gaggies" and chap stick was "yik yik" Every family I think has their own kind of internal language! And I bet it differs a lot even in different parts of the country!
Chriss... I have to say, I don't envy you doing all that weed whacking... that was my least favorite part of doing the lawn. I loved riding around on the tractor, but hacking weeds was not fun. Here's a little hint, be sure you wear long pants... I think I have scars on my legs from whacking my legs!! I'll come wash windows for you, call me crazy, but that's one job I enjoy!
Lori....Thanks for the encouragement!! I get that forgetfulness happens, but I sure don't like it especially when I can't remember where I put things. I can't remember where I put the wrapping paper, but I can remember every phone number I've ever had! And I remember my old Sears Credit Card no.! Go figure.. How are things going with taking care of your Dad's house?
I'm showered and dressed but need to go finish hair and face for the birthday party--and wrap up Corinne's gift. Tuesday she will go take her driver's test and I'm sure she will pass! Remember how great that felt to be able to drive yourself anywhere you wanted to go!! This is where my memory kicks in and I remember that little girl in a while dress at Jen's wedding in 2010... Now she's a gorgeous young woman! I get schmoopy jus thinking about it!
Better Run
have a wonderful day everyone!

THANK YOU TO THE EL'S GROUP
The quilt that was sent to my hubby came Sat. He was so very surprised that a group of never seen people would even think of him. I am grateful for all the prayers and thoughts for him in the past year.
He wants to send picture-how does he do it?
Again thanks to all.

Re: Sunday April 6th 2025
Good morning. Today will be a wonderful day.
I had fun garage sale-ing yesterday, I don't know why but I bought a box of wooden baseball bats. They are about 3 inches long. I had thought they would make a good clock but I'd have to slice them in half so they have a flat side and in doing that would surely slice my fingers. They will go to a thrift store as another stupid purchase. I also bought an apron that I will likely never use. Breakfast wasn't as great as I thought it would be. The syrup seemed thin and not sweet as I wanted. I think I can safely remove syrup from my list of cravings. But the day spent with friends was a lot of fun.
Today I want to go get a few groceries. Since I only need a few things I will probably go up to Mariposa instead of down to Merced. And I want to do some more weed eating. It's a slow process but I am cruising right along and getting things done. I love listening to audio books or pod casts, it's my newest thing.
Lori, I think it's good to take a break from the "have to's" glad you are doing that. Time is on your side. I will keep chugging along with the weed eating but probably complain about it for a while. Funny about your finding tools. When you are done we can both laugh at how we have more tools than we will ever use. One day our great great grandkids will hold up a screw driver and say this was handed down over generations, it's a family heirloom. ha ha. MZ has been quite laxed about the bobbin wish thing, hoping she straightens up and doesn't make us go over there.
Judi, our local hardware will take liquid paint for recycling. If it's dried it has to go to the dump. My dad suggested I take those not quite liquid paint cans, open them up, and let the sun heat them so they are more liquid. Instead I just took them all to the hardware store, they didn't look inside the cans and just took them all. I had a lot. As for your embroidery quilt, there is a lot to be said for smaller
Lois, I can hear your house sigh as it realizes it's got more room. I know it feels good to clean out the excess. I also bought new dish towels and am using the old ones to clean. I'm going to do a load of laundry this evening so I don't interfere with your washing.
Maryz, broccoli cheddar soup sounds wonderful. I'd add some bacon to it. I come from a philologically minded family. Grandma's suggestion was brandy for a cure all. Grandpa would say hit it with a board. He had a lump on his wrist. and he hit it with a board and it dissolved??? Garage sale season is almost year round here. I think people really need the money. Then, on the last day of the sale they post on FB, come and get it free. Sometimes they say "must take all" like someone will really be there to enforce that. I also have been sleeping in a bit lately. I'm usually up at 6am but is seems my body want to wait till closer to 7 to get up.
Jana, your breakfast sounds wonderful but too carb filled for me. On the other hand, offer me some biscuits with gravy and I will be at your doorstep fork in hand.
Lyn, I call it "now where on earth did I put that-itis" It's rampant and affects many. Hope those clips turn up soon, I'm anxious to see those shelves filled.
Maryq, yes. come clean my windows. I do like weed whacking. but when I am done my body is tired. I wear long pants, long sleeves and a terry cloth sweatband to keep my hair off of my face. And I wear my rubberish garden shoes. I'm a sight to behold. Someday that wrapping paper will turn up, or maybe you left it at the store? Once, I bought a baby shower card and misplaced it. I have no clue where it went. So, since it was close to Christmas I took a Christmas card and crossed otu Christmas, and wrote in baby. Enjoy the baby season. Ido remember how great it was to drive and to be the errand runner.
Ok, time for breakfast and go to the grocery store so I can get things done here. When days are beautiful like this I want to open the house up for the fresh air and go outside to get stuff done. I'm also going to go to the nursery for some veggie plants. After that it will be more weed eating, and an audio something on my newly discovered fun earbuds. wish I had known about them sooner.
Dinner tonight will be one of my favorite meals. Steak, baked potato and a salad with bleu cheese dressing.
have a great day,
chriss

Steak, baked potato and a salad with bleu cheese dressing.
have a great day,
chriss

Re: Sunday April 6th 2025
I think we are hogging all the warm air here in SoCal. It's supposed to reach 80 today.
It's beautiful with a nice breeze.
Chriss, I used to go to estate sales and decided I don't need a thing. Sometime I'll check it out if they have quilts. The tool thing is quite funny. I wonder if I'll do the same thing in 20 years. That is if I'm lucky enough to live that long. And yes, MZ is slacking big time with the bobbin thing. A steak sounds good with a poked baked potato.
Judi, if we want to get rid of liquid paint, we have to take it to a hazardous material place to be disposed of. CA is over the top with some things.
Maryq, it's all those numbers taking up space that you could use. Remember when you knew everyone's phone number. Now if you lose your phone it's tragic.
Lyn, I hope you find the shelf things before the entire trailer is empty. I put things in places that I think is a good idea for finding them later, but it turns out not to be so good.
Jana, at least you know what Mr. G means. French toast sounds yummy.
Maryz, your just fixing up the flower bed for Foxy. He's probably very grateful.
We did our walk at the park this morning. The weather has warmed up and it's really nice. I have no plans for the house at this point. We don't need to sell it, so I'll take my time clearing everything out. We rushed our other house in Il when we had to bring Bill's dad out during covid. I'll never do that again.
I finished up quilting and added the binding to a quilt. I'm slowing getting back in the grove. It might take a while. I'm not loving it like I used to. Probably because of everything going on. I read stress kills creativity. I agree.
Dinner will be spaghetti and meatballs.
Have a lovely day.
