Good morning,

We are heading up California, trying to dodge rainstorms, which, so far, we've managed, but I think some snow is going to bring us to a screeching halt this afternoon. Checking weather with Caltrans, but it looks like we will be late for our Super Bowl date with friends. Maybe a couple days late!

TINA - today is foot doctor day! We're all waiting to hear! I try to keep my house cleared out but it is hard. After doing a severe purge - even garage and shop - about 6 years ago, we keep a donation box in the garage at all times, When it's full, we drop it off at one of the thrift shops. It helps but, we probably should do the purge thing again. I keep remembering Autumn and Antonio going through his dad's stuff. And after a long day, Aut calling me, exhausted, and said, "Don't do this to us, Mom". My sis has a recipe for sweet & spicy chicken - toss chicken into the crockpot (I use breasts cut in half) with a can of chunk pineapple, chopped green pepper, and a bottle of any flavor BBQ sauce. Cook all day on low. Serve over rice. Thanks for reminding me of that oh-so-easy recipe!

LORI - we almost made it across the Mojave before the winds hit. The last 30 miles were "a bit breezy", we'll say. And you were right! We did notice that the air in Bakersfield was much clearer than usual. But as it happened we didn't stay there after all but moved on. I simply don't understand male blindness. It is a serious issue at our house, too. Though I will say, my Bill is blind in one eye. So he has half an excuse.

CHRISS - if you are boiling and peeling your own eggs, remember for easier peeling, use older eggs, boil with 1 or 2 tsps of baking soda, and plunge into cold water after boiling. I hope your trees give you and the squirrels some fruit this year! I don't want to see them go dry next year. As for my usual morning routine, I stagger into the kitchen, push the brew button on the coffeemaker, feed the yowling/barking furfolk, then sit down with a cuppa and all y'all. After that - I walk my 1 or 2 miles with Lori Across the Road, shower, and start sewing.

ANN - hi! Good to see you! I was thinking about you just last week! It was a good deal on blades that you got. I thought about it, but still haven't opened the 10-pak I bought on their last sale, so I think I'm good for a bit.

VAL - so sorry you fell! Rats! I hope you have no lasting aches, pains, scabs.

LOIS - Glad you are feeling better and I hope sewing is in your day. Seems everyone in our forum is coming down with it! Even I, traveling, started to feel "cold-ish" yesterday though OK now. Maybe this is a "computer virus"?

JUDI - how did Val's appt go? Only 8 more sleeps!

FLO - thinking of your boy today. Prayers.

MARY Q - It would be nice to get a few other quilters together to share ideas, thoughts, patterns, fabrics, et al! and of course, a show and tell time. You could rotate homes, or meet at the library. Most libraries have a meeting room for just such a thing.

JANA - hope you didn't blow away. Thought of you yesterday as we were crossing the desert. We played leap frog on the highway with a BART car! On a flatbed truck! it was a big truck! And funny, because our truck's name is also BART. It was disturbing though that, at 60mph, in high winds, driving such a large vehicle, the driver was texting!! So nice to have that new road open and saving you time and gas.

LYN - so sorry "Lyn's Lair" is at a standstill for the time being. I wanna move in!!! Our squirrels were emptying our birdfeeder only a few hours after we filled it. So now we have the feeder suspended on a clothesline rope and pulley system halfway between our deck and our RV shelter - 30 feet or so. I love our squirrels, but I was tired of feeding them birdseed! I wish we had cardinals in Western WA. They are so pretty!

Yesterday we got an early start in Needles and arrived in Bakersfield at 1100. Since it seemed a bit early to call it a day and we weren't tired, we just kept driving and ended up covering 450 miles - a very long day for us, but weather was/is an issue. We were hoping to beat the snow but didn't. Today we're going to Red Bluff - 280 miles - and will stay at the KOA there for 2, maybe 3 nights. The Siskiyous are getting hit with a lot of snow. We don't tangle with snow, so we'll wait it out. We were hoping to be home by Friday, but now it looks like Monday or Tuesday. Disappointing but best to arrive alive than not. Adding 2 or 3 more nights might make for some interesting suppers. Last night we had my famous Rice'a'Roni/canned chicken/frozen pea recipe. Tonite - maybe hamburger gravy over instant mashed potatoes and a salad.

Happy Wednesday to everyone! And prayers for anyone needing an extra bit of strength.

Good morning!

Well, the wind tried again to blow us away last night. Huffed and puffed, but we stayed put!

The BART car was probably heading off to a railroad museum in Rio Vista. Mr G says that the museum is getting several old BART cars for display. The cars can only ever be displayed because of two reasons, one, BART cars use 1200 volt power to run, and second, the rail is broad gauge. A normal railroad is , between the steel rails, 4 feet 8 1/2 inches. BART chose broad gauge, which is 5 feet 6 inches. Supposedly made for a easier ride for the passengers at high speed. BART was a fussy railroad and objected to owning up to being called a railroad, it was a commuter line. That was until Mr G got his hands in on it and fixed all the problems created by the lousy company that built BART. Took Mr G 50 years of work and expertise, but he left BART a much better railroad! Your history lesson today.

My eye appointment went well. The Dr is still seeing improvement each time. So the treatment is working.

Today I have to head out on a scavenger hunt. We are into the last gallon of milk. A total necessity in this house! I have a couple of loads of laundry as well. Hopefully will see the Batt Cave today. I need to draft a pillow for Daniel. He has some of his firefighter gear he wants to use on a pillow for display. I found a good piece of firefighter fabric to use too.

Safe travels. The Siskyous are as tough as Donner in the snow!

Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning Everyone!

Happy Wednesday! Got my coffee and it looks like it's going to be a half way decent day here. Won't get much warmer than about 25* but I do see some sun shine out there. My little development sits at the bottom of a hill so it seems to take a little while longer for the sun to peek through my windows in the morning.

I was kind of hoping for a cloudy day as I am off to a follow up appointment at the Eye dr this morning and driving home in sunshine with dilated eyes is no fun! I had my regular checkup a couple weeks ago, but Dr wants to another scan to check out something going on at the back of my eyes. "Anterior Basement Membrane Dystrophy" Sounds scary doesn't it, but it's really not, easy treatment --just some eye drops. When I go to the Dr I just tell her as long as I can thread a needle, I'm fine!

Lois... Did Bill have the kind of flu they'd give him Tamiflu for? How about you? Did you catch that or a nasty cold. I'm knocking on wood here since it's been since summer of '22 that I've had a cold! Hope you both are feeling so much better soon.

Flo..Up since 5? Oh what we do for our kids! I'll send some special prayers for your son today. It's just the port they are "installing" right? Is he on a list for a transplant or will they wait on that for a while. I'm glad for his sake that the Dr.s are being kind of proactive and getting him ready just in case he needs the dialysis. I've heard they can do that from home now.

Maryz... Oh gosh, I know how anxious you are to get home, I so hope that the weather improves for you and you can get home on schedule. But as the world's biggest ninny about driving in snow.... I agree--stay put until you have clear roads and skys. Yeh, I'm kind of looking forward to setting up the little group. I made the FB group last night and have gotten a few folks joined up already, even a guy who's been sewing since he was 5. I've met him before. He buys fabric by the bolt -- so I just might see if we can go shopping in his stash!

Lyn... How nice to see cardinals out your window! At my house I could see them all the time out my kitchen window as that faced the woods. Are you putting lots of lights in the ceiling of your cabin? So important to be able to see what you are doing! Do you think it will be all ready to move in before you head north again?

Valerie.... OUCH!!! Are you ok this morning? A little sore I suppose. You found a new gal to quilt for you? What's the going rate out there for LA quilting. Last I heard around here is about 2 cents/square inch plus batting, some add a fee for thread too and more if it's variegated thread. I'm so grateful Viv quilts for me for free--I supply batting and thread.

Lori.... I did ask Alexa to describe the weather... She kind of gave me the whole forecast, " 6 degrees Fahrenheit with sunny skies. Expect snow flurries with a high temp of 27 degrees" Isn't that just IT sometimes.... get this quilt OUT OF MY HOUSE!! I called an assisted living place to donate a few to, she never called back. SO I'll look for another option.

Chriss.... Have you seen a huge price increase in eggs? Last time I got them it was $5.79 for 18 (I always get 18 at a time) I didn't think that was too bad. There's plans to build a big Costco about 2 miles from my house, IF they ever build it I'll have to check out the pre-cooked eggs!

Jana.... Good news that the Dr says your eye is improving!!

Speaking of eyes, I better go jump in the shower and get ready to go for this eye scan. I'm sure it won't take long and I can come home and play in the sewing room. I did manage to get the baby girl top done, though need to decide what to do for borders. There's a border print in the fabric line, but I don't have enough and I'm pretty sure the whole line has been discontinued--I've looked on Etsy and can't find that print. So will have to come up with something else.

Wishing you all a Wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning everyone 🌞
Flo, prayers for you DS1 πŸ™
Lois, glad you and your DH are starting to feel better.
Maryz, safe travels, I hope the snow holds off until you get past it.
Jana, I hope we don't get your wind! I know it's coming though with as warm as it's getting so soon. I'm glad your eyes are getting better.
Maryq, I hope your eye appointment is only good news.
I'm about to get ready to go to my foot Dr appointment, I made this appointment 2 months and 3 weeks ago......I think that wait time is beyond ridiculous personally.....we live in a small town, the Dr can't possibly have that many patients to justify that long of a wait....🀷
I need a huge huge favor please, I need some major prayers for Holly, I can't get into the details but if you could just pray for her I'd really appreciate it πŸ™πŸ’•
You all have a great day!
Prayers for all in need πŸ™
Tina

FLO- thinking of you today, hope all goes well.

Hubby's blood work came out good. The infusion is set for 2 this afternoon. He'll be feeling under the weather for the next few days, that seems to be his reaction from the med. This is number 6 out of 13--almost to the mid point of this part of treatment (monthly) Please keep him in your prayers today.

Thank you to everyone for being my un-seen helpers thru this chapter.
Diane

Good morning. It's going to be a wonderful day today, chilly and wet but wonderful.

I think my body wants to hang onto this cold a little longer. I did a little outside work yesterday, filled in some squirrel holes, I hate squirrels. I also figured out some things on my car and can see that if I read the books that came with it, I will find out so many more things that it will do. After that I took a nap. I really am not a napper but have been this week.

I think today I will do some chores and just see how I feel. I have a cousin and his wife coming on Friday and leaving on Sunday. We are having a memorial / celebration of life for his dad, my dad's brother on Saturday. I think my cousin thought a lot of people would attend but while my uncle grew up in this area he was 82 years old and hadn't lived in this area for 40 or more years. Not sure how this will turn out. but we will see.

There is a bird who has been singing all morning long. He's a happy bird but I don't know what kind he is. I've heard him before but can never see him. He's very cheerful, almost like a mocking bird but we don't have those here.

Ann, what a treat. It's so good to see you. Hope you are doing well. How is everything, catch us up.

Tina, I'm trying to avoid using a cpa. I will buy turbo tax and hopefully will be ready to get started on the first. I should have all paperwork by then. Nice to have clean good smelling , fluffy dogs. I will gladly pray for Holly, And for her momma too xo

Lois, hope you are feeling better today and get to play in your sewing room.

Flo, enjoy that nap, I have been enjoying mine

Maryz, dang, you really did make good time and traveled quite far. Sorry you'lll be on the road a couple of extra nights but smart thinking having meals in the freezer. Hoping they realize you want to go home and plow those roads for you. I think male blindness coinsides with them being unable to bend at the waist. I've not added green peppers but have made the chicken, pineapple and bbq sauce dish. I've done that to pork ribs as well, it's quite tasty.

Jana, I chuckle every time you need milk. When we had kids in the house we easily went through 4 gallons a week, then one day they were gone and we had spoiled milk. Lesson learned. Happy sewing.

Maryq, last week at Costco 5 dozen eggs were $17.99 but that same 5 dozen were $54.99 at the IGA store in town. I traveled 30 miles instead of 20 and saved almost enough for a half tank of gas. I didn't by the already boiled and peeled this time, I couldn't justify buying both.
You'll find the perfect fabric for your borders, it's in that tote in the garage. Hope that eye appointment is over with quickly.

Diane, hoping all goes well for DH.

Taht bird is still out there chirping away. I need to hit the shower and go see if I can see him after breakfast. I think tonights dinner will be a bacon cheese burger with grilled onions. Last nights dinner was fried cabbage with fried eggs on top.

You all have a fantastic day,
Chriss

Prayers for all the needs mentioned today. Very busy, but we know God can answer all of them.

Cabin is coming to the finish line, but a little slower than I had hoped. To get into the cabin, I have 3 cinder blocks side by side as a step, since the porch is 17" off the ground. It hit me yesterday that the inspector is probably gonna want real steps into the cabin. Duh  I texted him and I think he will sign off even if they're not installed until later.

Hope all y'all have a good day.
Lyn
