THURSDAY, January 30th

Post by auntjana » Wed Jan 29, 2025 10:09 pm

Good morning!

Well, I usually don't start our day off, but the adrenaline is running high in me at the moment and I will be wide awake for awhile.

A short time ago, a helicopter was circling right over my house, looking to land. Too dark for me to see the markings. We have many Blackhawks that fly over us between a town north, West Jordan and the National guard base, just south of me. Well, this helicopter, tonight, had a couple of choices of where he could land, the horse field, just over my back fence or the church parking lot about 50 yards from my house. So I did what every good mom does, who's son works for PD. I called him and asked, in polite company, what the hockey sticks is going on. There was a medical emergency up by Sarah's house, in a place called High Country. Their roads are so narrow that it's hard to get a fire truck up in that area. A 16 y/o was injured and needed to be life flighted up to Primary Children's hospital . So that was the helicopter that landed in the church parking lot. We watched everything unfold from my kitchen window. There arrived 2 fire engines, a ambulance and most of Herriman PD. The transfer of the patient took nearly 35 minutes. Then the helicopter rose straight up, cleared the steeple of the church and headed up to the hospital. I swear, every one in the neighborhood drove by to see what was going on! The street in front of the church has never seen so much traffic, even on Sundays! Karlie was able to see from her house, the helicopter leave. I was texting with Daniel. He and Aaron have called in the life flight helicopters many times. So that was the excitement for the night and guess what, it didn't have anything to do with Mr G! šŸ˜€šŸ˜ƒ

So my day should be quiet. Mr G has a eye glass appointment. Sarah is taking him. She has one at the same time too. Ethan's school schedule was changed, again, for the better. The study hall teacher said since he always has his work done, there's no need for him to just sit there. And he doesn't need that class for any credit, so he's out even earlier now. Pays to be a good student. He comes home and practices his cello during that time. I have a few uglies to finish and my chair is scheduled to be delivered! Whoo hoo.

Enjoy the wonderful day ahead ! Do something fun!

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning. We woke up early and are going to hit the road. Hoping to beat the storm that’s headed towards Houston. Though it’s looking like we’ll have to drive through it as we head west. But we’re gonna still give it a shot. Talking on my phone. Computers are packed. I think Bill is anxious to hit the road. I woke up at 4 AM and found him already up and that’s just never happens. Will check in through the day on my phone.

Lois, for some reason, I just didn’t notice that the backgrounds of the blocks flow one into the other from left to right. Until I hit about June. So a few of my 12ā€ blocks don’t match at their seams.

Jana, that was a lot of excitement just before bedtime. It would take me a while to get to sleep. But nice for you, like Lois said, to have your own pipeline. Reading the rest of your post it must be awfully early. I read that Mr. G had a glass eye appointment. I was thinking what the double hockey sticks! Now he has a glass eye?! Then I reread that it was eyeglass not glass eye. This is what comes from getting up at 4 AM.

Good Morning all well it sounds like everyone is awake and I mean awake...The noise from the chopper alone would be enough, let alone fire trucks and ambulances. Hope the young man is ok...
Today is our Val's birthday so we will go over there for supper and celly. She still doesnt go out of the house but more because of her hair or lack of it,,,,She has a little growing back but still wears a head scarf...She is doing well getting back to her normal routine...
last night we had a delightful guild meeting,,,we have gone from formal meetings to informal chats around a large table it is so much fun to swap quilting stories and since I havent seen any one since last summer They all wanted to know about how I was doing,,,lots of plans for future meetings...we also have a brand new quilter who came and she has never made a quilt before so everyone (quilters are like that) offered all the advice anyone could want. we all shared war stories of our journey into quilting,
I got my laundry done yesterday so Lois the laundry room is all yours...have fun there, and with your OWL. my sister is working on all the applique shapes tracing the entire 12 months first...we each have our own way,,,she is labeling them and bagging them up/
Mary hope your travels are safe and smooth...I know you are anxious to get going,,,and head home. I keep adding and subtracting from the pile in my room...trying to decide what NOT to take,,,,We are anxoius to get moving as your tri[ ends ours will be beginning...
Hope you all have a great dayXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Morning
Jana exciting night. Hope that young man is doing well.
Maryz, safe travels.
Yesterday's bake session was fun. I taught her to make white sandwich bread, 2 loaves; sourdough sandwich bread, 2 loaves;and 2 loaves amish cinnamon bread. We kneaded the 4 loaves of sandwich bread by hand because she doesn't have a stand mixer. The amish bread is a batter bread, so she can use her hand mixer for it. Long day but it kicked my butt.
Today is catch up day. Nothing exciting except a nap!

Good morning, hope all is well. 42* now only going to be around 52* at it's warmest. Rain forcast for tomorrow.

Jana lots of excitement at your place. Helicopters, chairs. I am going to inquire about my chair today when I go to pick up my BOM. Slow stitch tonight but not sure if I am going. We will see. By the way, helicopters in my area are 99.9% the police/CHP. They do work together a lot here. THey are usually looking for bad guys.

Flo I can't imagine kneeding by hand anymore. Good hand exercise though. Chances of me making bread anytime soon though is pretty slim.

Lyn I agree, have been looking at DH plan, time for me to make one. I have let him know 13 hours in a car is way too long for my back. His truck has more room and not sure what vehicle we are taking yet. He thinks his truck is more comfortable on long trips.

Happy Birthday Val, Hi Judi. Glad to hear Val is getting back to her normal. It can be a long road. She seems to have a positive personality though and that is so helpful.

Maryz traveling mercies to you and Bill. Be careful out there in the big world. Not sure can outrun a storm though.

Lois I am with you on Android phones. Iphones drive me right up the wall.

Chriss you have quite a trip planned for us all, sounds like fun.

Well I am off to search for the info to pick up my BOM. Have a great day all.

Good Morning Girls

Had to do a double take at the calendar by my desk this morning... is it really the end of January already!! Yikes...Where did this month go and wasn't it just Christmas?

Jana.... Wowsers... that was an exciting night at your house! Kind of fun to watch helicopters, tho we don't see many here! Hope the young person is ok. My DDIL Kris has a good friend Jen, this is a copter pilot for a local hospital... she would be the person that flies in that situation at your house. A few years ago there was police "event" just up a little hill and over a block or two from me.. Young man barricaded in a house and firing at police officers. When it was all over Jen was the pilot that took him to the hospital after he had finally be captured. He's still in jail. Jen landed the helicopter at the elementary school across the street (school was closed) but I did have some good pictures of it flying over my house..

Lois... You do Android? I suppose if that had been my first phone and what I was used to, I'd do that again. It's hard to change from what you are used to. KC had android and was always having problems with it (more her problem than the phone) I had no idea how to work the thing. I have Iphone and sometimes I have to have Evie help with it! Even Eli, when he was 4 years old was telling me how to go to the " App store" to find a game!

Maryz.... Lots of Prayers to St. Christopher for you and Bill today as you head west. I bet it does feel good to hit the road.

Judi.... Happy Birthday to Val!!! What a courageous gal she is!! Does she feel that this treatment is helping her at all? Will she have to do the treatment again? I bet it was fun to see your old quilting buddies again. And of course we have to encourage new quilters!! I met a young gal the other day from the buy nothing group on facebook that was teaching herself how to crochet and needed some yarn (which I have a tote box of). I just thought it was so cool! She wants to learn how to knit too, so I told her I would help her if she wanted!

Flo... You sure got some good Physical Therapy for your hands kneading all that bread yesterday. I've seen a gal on FB that does a lot with sour dough starter and thought that might be kind of fun. But then on other hand, maybe I better not start another hobby---as I'm sure I would eat all that wonderful bread myself!

Valerie... OH heck no.... 13 hours in a car... way too long. Unless there were frequent, and I mean FREQUENT stops and stretches!!!! I'm sure there are lots of different paths you can take to get where you want to go, I'm thinking it might be kind of fun to plan! Also, there's an app you can get on your phone called "Needle travel" that you can locate quilt shops in the whole country! It sure came in handy when I was in Montanna a few years ago!!

Chriss... That's the kind of quilt group I would like to do here. Just get together, help each other. If I have a piece of a fabric that somebody could use and they have something I need--let's swap. If you need help sewing down a binding, let me know, I can do that. Let's share and make lives better! You gotta know I am so excited to have the kids move back. They area that they want to settle in about 1/2 between me and DEX and an easy drive! The big trick will be finding jobs and a home. They don't own a home now, they are really going to have to start from scratch!

Tina... It is kind of fun to watch the trains!! At Viv's house they are so close they rattle the whole house! You get used to them after a while. I think they are interesting to watch, but then I don't live with them every day! I'm with you..... I love being home all day.

So you know how the squirrels run rampant at my house... You'll get a kick out of this. A couple months ago I organized and kind of sorted through my UFO's that are hung on a bar inside my bathtub (never been used in 25 years) and I came across a little top of some Christmas-I think they were a lotto win or something) . I had the blocks sewn together but no border. I left it out, hanging on a hook on my bedroom closet and pretty much ignored it. Finally got sick of looking at it so the other day I threw some borders on, (fabric for borders and back were attached) and laid that sucker out and got it all quilted and bound yesterday. It's small (55x58 or so), but DONE!! Now to figure out what to do with it. Heck, it might fit as a table topper. If I could clear off my dining room table I could test that theory! Feels good to finish something!!!!

For now, as usual it's time for more coffee and a shower. Which I would even bother with if I didn't have an association board meeting the afternoon! Ugh!!

Have a great day everyone!

The rain passed through here early this morning.

MaryZ, I hope you didn't hit too much rain. Not sure of your route, but I hope you have safe travels.

Jana, Hope y'all were able to get back to sleep. Nice that you can get the inside scoop. Hope the young man recovers.

Lois, I figure you're about done with laundry, so I will start mine.

Judi, Happy Birthday to Val. Good to hear that she's getting back to routine. If you take less clothes, it will give you a reason for a shopping trip on vacation.

Flo, Wow that's a lot of bread and work, but I bet it's all yummy.

Valerie, I think you and DH should do a 100 mile test drive in both vehicles to see what's more comfortable on your back. And make sure you go over some rough roads, hit some potholes and such, cause that's what you will find going cross country.

So the floor was supposed to be laid today. They guys showed up an hour early, just as I was drying off from my shower. Threw on my robe and opened the front door. Told them I'd be back in a couple minutes and ran to dress. They were starting to prep floor when the head man said that the people who built the cabin hadn't fixed the threshold correctly and if he laid the floor without that being fixed, it will cause problems in the future. So I took photos, called the company and text photos, now waiting for a call from the factory. The guys unloaded my flooring and left. Needless to say, I'm not happy!!

Yesterday didn't go as planned, so not saying much about today except that laundry has to be done. Anything else will be a bonus.

Valerie - in planning that trip across I-80, I traveled that stretch from Concord to Salt Leke at least three times a year for more than 20 years! I know the timing it takes from one point to another very well. 13 hours to Rock Springs is very optimistic. There's a time change too at the eastern Nevada border of a hour - forward l. With stops, we did go straight through when we were young, and it was hard on us, wearing us out. We stopped in Reno for fuel, sometimes Winnemucca for food, Elko for gas again and finally my mom's in Kaysville, just north of SLC. Between Elko and SLC, driving time is 3 1/2 hours, not adding the hour time change. Mr G says Rock Springs is another good three hours driving time. There are many road construction stretches that will slow you down. We started breaking our trip up and going as far as Elko to spent the night. SLC was a easy drive in the morning. And we weren't dog tired. Winnemucca is about 6 hours or so from Concord, but we didn't like the quality of the places to stay. Elko was better. So I would rethink the travel miles per day. You may even hit a early snow storm across the Wyoming plains. They happen in September. FYI - Concord to Reno, 3 hours, Winnemucca, another 3 or so hours, Elko, another 2 or so for about a total of 8 hours driving time. SLC another 3 plus hours. All those times don't include fuel stop, potty stop, or food stop times. Straight running times.

I have a profound awe for those life flight pilots. The pilots put that helicopter down right next to the church, in the parking lot - which has trees on both sides of the of the parking stalls the length of the building. The parking has a center strip where you drive, and stalls on either side that are a straight pull into space. These life flight helicopters are not small. He set that large puppy right in the middle of that parking space area, missing all the large trees, which are taller than our building. About 2 plus stories in height. A extremely tight space, according to my boys. A residential street is wider! Oh, there's a steeple on the building too. When the helicopter came over my house, looking where he had a clear spot, he was no more than 10 feet above my roof line. Sheesh! Literally the chapel is less than 25 yards from my house., as the crow flies. Haven't talked to Aaron yet today for any update on the condition of the injured teen.

OK, uglies are calling,
Jana

Jana, when I worked at UCIMC Life flight was stationed there. The Helipad is small. They are amazing coming in and out of tight spaces with dangerous obstacles. And if a patient was crashing, they came in hot. You could tell by the urgency of landing. Hope the kid will be okay.

Lyn, bummer about the threshold. Hopefully it can be repaired quickly and you can get the flooring laid.

Judi, Happy Birthday day to you DDIL. Glad to hear she is doing better.

Maryq, good for you finishing up those quilts. I need to sort though and figure out what I need to finish.

Chriss, I know you are having a fun day with Mr. Elliott. Hope you are getting lots of smooches and hugs.

Flo, that's a lot of bread. I bet you were exhausted at the end of the day.

Maryz, hope you managed to beat the storm. Where's your 1st stop? Sounds like Bill was ready to get on the road. I did notice the backgrounds went together after in the OWL after making my 1st block. I try and match them up as I go. It's been a really slow process. Work on the OWL a bit, stick it in the closet slow.

Lois, have fun playing with the block.

Valerie, I'm sure you'll find the perfect route for your trip. Leave some extra time for construction and whatnot. You know things never go as planned.

Jack and I walked and that's about it. It was about 5 degrees warmer which was nice, but has since clouded up. I guess I should get busy and do something. The floor isn't going to vacuum itself.

Dinner will be ham and potato soup.

Have a lovely day
