Good morning from Houston,

We finally made it here. It was foggy, rained most of the 160 miles, and as we got close to Houston I-10 increased from 4 to 10 and, at one point, 12 lanes of zooming traffic. We missed our exit but made up for it by later taking a wrong one. There were many miles of major construction, and when we stopped for fuel I went inside the trailer for a bottle of water and found olive oil all over the floor and soaking the carpet edges. I'd forgotten to stow the decanter away. I used the last of our paper towels trying to clean it up and when we finally got to our destination, spent quite a while on my hands and knees washing the floor with Dawn dish soap and then vinegar. What a mess! We parked in pouring rain, thunder, and lightening and I had to stand outside, directing my driver. I was totally soaked. So - are you laughing yet? We are just glad we made it without another accident! Today we'll meet Cindy for lunch at a Mexican restaurant about 17 miles from here. We are in the SW part of the city and she is NW. We will also pick up a few groceries and some more paper towels, Dawn, and olive oil. Bill's dr appts are tomorrow and Wednesday.

LOIS - glad you are back! And with a fresh new haircut! I am SOOO overdue. I'm to the point now where maybe I'll just let it grow out some more and start wearing a pony tail. So, how much longer before Sandi can start sewing? You are such a sweet mom to wait on her! That snowman is great fun to sew! Will you be using the same fabrics? Working from your stash or did you buy kits? I did mine from my stash but the fabrics pretty much match the pattern photo.

BECCA - It's really nice to see you here! I've been thinking of you, hoping all is well. A baptism! That's so wonderful! And when will you get to see Frankie again? I wish she lived closer to you. Or you to her. They are so fun at this age when even the littlest thing is enthralling to them. Sorry your muscles are sore. You keep pretty active and engaged in life and that's probably the best and most important thing you can do.

JANA - I didn't realize you were waiting on a new chair. I must have missed that. But I'm sure you can find something quilt-related to keep you entertained until Thursday. I love those plastic flamingoes, too, and have one in my yard.

JUDI - I cannot believe Ryker is 9! How do these things keep happening! But what a memorable birthday he had! :D So did you do, just a little, sewing yesterday? Hard to imagine an $8,000 chair!

MARY Q - I wouldn't have called yesterday "a short drive". We were pretty frazzled by the time we got parked in our new spot - 5 hours of hard, un-fun driving in terrible weather, pulling a trailer. And you know how we feel about Texas drivers! Are flamingos a 'thing' for all Airstreams or just your DB? How are the baby quilts coming along?

CHRISS - we use our dishwasher all the time. We run it 3 or 4 times a week. About once a year I bring all the trailer dishes, pots, pans into the house and run them through the dishwasher. I use it to wash fridge parts, pet dishes, drawer dividers, and even my countertop dish drainer! Because I do do some of the big stuff by hand. But even if you don't use it, you should still run it once a month or so to keep the gaskets from drying out which can cause leaks.

TINA - too bad we're going west next week instead of east - we could bring Chriss's machine to you! And btw, we will probably be in Deming Feb 4. But one of our trailer landing gears isn't behaving like it should so once we get hitched up again here in Houston Bill says he's not unhitching again until we get home. So we won't be able to stop by for a visit, but if you're not too busy, you're invited to come by and visit with us! You know where we 'live' when we're in Deming! In the meantime, B is watching videos about landing gears to see if he can learn what's going on.

LYN - love your photos! What are the dimensions of your Quilting Cabin? I know you've told us but my memory needs refreshment. What are the dimensions of that high storage cubby? If I put my batting up in a place like that at our house I'd probably have nesting squirrels as soon as I turned my back!

LORI - those are cute projects! Your friend will love them. Smart to use your pretty machine stitches!

So, today will be a short grocery shopping trip on our way back from lunch with Cindy. I'll be sure to deliver all your special messages to her! She does keep her hand in quilting and she and Sue get together most Wednesdays to work on charitable quilting projects. I'm still stitching away on my embroidery project. I've got a mind set now that I want it FINISHED by the time we get home. And it's about 3/4 done. Of course, this is only the second of three panels but it's the one with the most stitching. Part of this project is traditional quilting with blocks between the embroidered panels and flying geese flying around the borders. Those are also done. It's just the embroidery that is hung up in production. The rain is starting up again. T-storms are forecast for our entire time in Houston so it should be a fun time here. Or not.

Stay dry! Stay warm! Stay safe!

Good morning Since there are 2 threads opened I will post twice....Katy have fun clearing stuff...it is my most favorite thing to do. Ive been at it for years...but this year I have really meant it and have taken 2 loads to the salvation army and did not stop to shop.....I just purged out my "on wander lane" box and gave the whole project left overs and patterns to my sister so she can make that quilt ( she asked for it)
Lois I loved making that quilt and ope you are able to "gitter done"
Florence a tote for embroidery is a good thing,,,I have a tote for mine, you are so kind to make it for her,
Maryz sorry about the bad travels...it is one of those things that make Ken hesitate to get another camper...break downs and traffic and etc. We once had a cabinet door "Unlock" during rough roads and I went in to find coffe cups in pieces everywhere,,,some where souvineer cup we loved...but most all were broken...everything else in that cupboard was plastic but it was all over the place too.
Last nights dinner with the family was such fun,,,Ryker recieved many nice gifts but mostly cash he will have fun spending,,While waiting for dinner they bring out hot rolls and butter and I watched Ryker devour a whole basket full and then he ate an entire steak dinner,,,I forget how much growing boys eat...
Well I hopr you all have a great dayXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning everyone, up early, going grocery collecting after DH goes to work. Also plan to wash the hair today, run the vacuum and sew.

Maryq that's a lot of traffic! I think I80 now has 5 or 6 each direction. I will have to count next time I go that way. I know on a Friday night heading east it is bumper to bumper for miles. So sorry about the olive oil. When DBIL (yes that one) was living in our RV he did the same thing. Oil all over the carpet. Glad you had some Dawn on board. And praying you didn't catch a cold while standing out in the pouring rain!

Katy I have not started my On Wander Lane. Too many squirrels I guess. After March, when I no longer work I am going to try and be a bit more organzied with my sewing. I won't be able to just willy nilly buy new stuff so that should encourage me to do my old stuff. So much stuff started!

Lois what do you put in your stir fry. You know, we haven't had that in a while. I am not a big rice fan unless it's Indian rice (Basmati) They cook their rice differently so it's not so starchy.

Flo I am so happy you are having fun with that new car. Good to keep up those driving skills.

Judi sure hoping Ryker is not sick today! That's a lot of food. Sounds like he had a great Birthday. Next year double digits.

Jana I have (wait gotta go look), okay I am back, 2 what look like USB ports and a third is where I think the stitch (there's 3 of them) regulator plugs in not sure. I will go to the shop on Thursday and make an appointment for Skip to come back over and show me this. I am told there are 1230 built in embroidery designs and I have the app that I can send with wifi to the machine. Can't think of the name of it right now. He briefly explained about buying them and getting them to the machine but remember what he said. I have to do things to remember them. I need to know which stablizers to use also for what fabrics.

Lori cute Easter eggs. Seems like you really do get a lot accomplished. We didn't get any rain here. Not sure they got enough down south so help with all the fires. The fire crews must be exahusted by now. I don't know how they do it.

Chriss we really do need to get together and go visit some of these girls. Unfortunately, my time in September will be limted as DH still working. 3 weeks is not a lot of time when traveling cross country and back. I am really hoping to meet with Maryq but I don't think anyone else is close to our route. Early plans are first night Rock Springs Wy, then onto MSQC, then to one place I can't say as it's a surprise, Then onto Rustburg Virgina (that is where my sister lives) then Washington DC as DH has never been there. Then north to Vermont to see the Dear Jane quilt, onto Minn to see Maryq (praying) and then to my nephews. Last stop will be at son's in Rapid City. But that's early planning and some of those days are long and maybe too long.

Maryq I am trying to find a better map that tells me Vermont to my nephews in Erhard. He is 3 or so hours north of you. So I may have to just go through ST Michael's? Or not too far off the route. It would be around the 3rd or 4th week of September. DH has to back at work on the 28th.

Well, time to eat some breakfast and want to get to the store before it get's crowded. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning!

Nice to see the sun shining brightly!

Valerie - that's a long drive from Vallejo to Rock Springs. In one day! Even with stopping in Reno to see the grands! You'll be a bit north of me, so I'll wave as you go by. If as you come through SLC, look to the southwest, and see the dirt pile, that's the copper mine and that's where I live. Not much in Rock Springs, but the fall colors should be started as you go through my mountains. As to stabilizers, I have one favorite that seems to work well for me, for all I do. It's a lightweight, tear away made by Sulky. It comes in two different widths. I have both. As well as a Kimberbell one too. The tear away is great! When loading the embroidery, just make sure of the file type extension for your machine. Mine uses either a .vip3 or ,pcs. So when you buy a embroidery file, make sure it has your extension. Most programmers write for all machines. Oh, with the stabilizer, to hold the fabric 8n place, I use a temporary spray adhesive, Dritz, with a yellow cap. There are different ones, but I find that particular 9ne doesn't gummy up my needle. And use embroidery machine needles, the have a bigger eye for the thread to go through at the high speed the machine goes. And you'll need a small pair of spring type scissors, with a curve tip, to clip threads. They are invaluable. Learn to clip off the threads as the embroidery goes from one spot to another. Saves a lot of headaches doing it as you go, rather than all at the end! Much cleaner, neater work.

Mr G has appointments today, two in fact. I'm beginning to think that the hospital is making all their money just on us!

OWL is sitting out on my table behind my sewing island. I work a bit here and there on it. The fabrics are all in a basket with all the patterns. I really like using my portable design boards to hold my work. Sarah made me a bunch, from Lori Holt's website for Christmas awhile back. They are different sizes, flannel faced to hold the applique pieces. Works great with OWL. We used a foam board, cut to size, added a flannel to the front and then cut binding and stitched it around the outside edge, to hold the flannel in place and make it pretty. We used just a wide zigzag to sew it on. I have 8 8nch, 13 inch and 18 8nch boards. Most used is the 13 inch one. Lori Holt sells them herself, but they are expensive, so that's why Sarah made ours herself. A bit of a learning curve, but we managed it.

My new chair will be here Thursday. Many times Amazon is early, hope they are this time! I can slide the box down the stairs, no problem. But hauling up the old chair for Acme Landfill, I'll need a bit of help. Logan is out here for ROTC several days a week and will come do that for me. The school is about a mile from me, so that makes it easy, before he heads home for dinner.

Time to scoot, busy day here,
Hugs,
Jana

Overcast and 46°, maybe get to mid 50's.

MaryZ, Sorry you had a mess to clean up. That construction west of Houston has been going on for years and years. It was a mess when my DSIL and I would drive up for the Quilt Show and that was 2019 and before.

Valerie, There's some great books on machine embroidery that talk about stabilizers and hooping tricks. I bought, Embroidery Machine Essentials, How to Stabilize, Hoop & Stitch Decorative Designs, by Twigg Jeanine. I still refer to it.

The Sewing Shack is 12' x 28' overall. Inside is 12' x 24'. The loft over the porch is about 10' x 3 1/2', it has a plywood floor and lots of insulation which takes up some space on the sides and front. As for where things will go, I have an app on my iPad that I need to work on, it's called Roomle. I used it when I planned my sewing room in Colorado. I have started the Sewing Shack and hopefully I can copy and paste my furniture from one to the other. It will be called the Sewing Shack or Cabin, not a she shed, I dislike that name because Garry thinks he's cute and tells people he needs to find a way to burn down the she shed, based on the stupid insurance commercial.

Yesterday I woke up feeling awful. Sneeze, blow my nose, cough, repeat and my eyes were watering after each one. By last evening I was feeling a bit better. Haven't been up long enough to know how today will be. The electrician says he'll be here this afternoon. I found one of my masks and washed it to wear when talking to him. I don't know if construction guys were supposed to clean out the receptacle boxes of mud that got in them or electrician, I'm going to see if I can clean them before this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a great day.
Lyn

Good morning. It's going to be a beautiful day, what's left of it. Dad is finishing up a project and I have the music on the tv so my stepmom can sing most of the words correctly and loudly while playing solitaire on her phone. It's been a busy morning.

The rest of today is up in the air and I have no clue what I will be doing. Probably sitting here visiting. I go to see my grandson on Thursday so I would like to get something together to take for lunch but need to go grocery shopping first.

Katy, I think that cleaning out the junk is an unending job. I've gone through this house once and sure could see needing to do it at least once more.

Lois, bet you feel lighter with that hair gone. Glad Olivia has a nice friend.

Flo, I'm a tote bag addict. I probably could get rid of half of my bags and still have too many.

Judi, sounds like Ryker had the best birthday ever. Your sister will either thank you or blow you a raspberry for that box of OWL you gave her. If you sat and had an 8k chair molded to your butt for a perfect fit, and then lost or gained weight, would you have to buy a new chair?

Maryq, AAA has paper maps. I have gotten them for Cali and used them as the background in craft projects. Hope you get your car back soon too. Mine hasn't moved in two days but it's nice to know I can go if I want to. Nice to have that little boy quilt done. Sure wish I was in my sewing room.

Maryz, glad you made it safely to Cindy's. Hope she's doing well. You'll get that embroidery done, especially if you aren't unhitching. You are going in the complete opposite direction or I would gladly let you take that machine to Tina. Not sure about the flamingos and airstreams being a thing. My dad was pretty adamant about no flamingos in his Airstream. sorry about the mess in your trailer.

Valerie, well, if we go up to WA and stop at MZ's we could go from there to Utah to see Jana, To Colo and see Lyn (if we can find her there) Sharona is also in Colo. Flo, Katy and Becca are someplace in the midwest then MQ in Missouri. MQ might hop in the car with us. We'd go to Mich to see Judi then to PA for O'Dorothy. On to NJ for Lois and to NM to see Tina. then over to Tx because Lyn will be there if she isn't in Colo. Then Lori in Cali and home. Although Lori will likely want to go and we will have to travel counter clockwise, which could also be fun. Not sure if my geography is even close to correct, but we can consult a mapping app. Sure hope I didn't miss anyone but if I did I'm sure we could get there too.

Jana, hope the doctor appts go well and your chair is the comfiest chair ever.

Tina, safe travels bac and forth to Curces. Hope you get everything done.

Lyn, your sewing shack sounds really roomy, wonder how long it will take you to feel all the nooks and cranny's? what fun, hope you're feeling better.

Not sure what will be for dinner. I really need a grocery store run. I do have hamburger thawing, can't make a salad, no lettuce. UGH.

You all have a geat day.

Chriss, well I'm coming with you and Valerie to visit everyone. lol My mom like music on the tv too. It's amazing how many songs you can remember.

Lyn, I'd call it your fabulous sewing studio. I bet you are going to make some great things in there soon. Hope you feel better today. Maybe it was just an allergy.

Jana, the quilt shop in Logan is, My Girlfriends Quilt Shop. They have lots of Kimberbell. My friend likes the retreat they do there in September. She's been a few times. Have you been able to find Soft and Fuse? I can't find it anywhere anymore. Not even at Quilt Etc. I wonder what happened to it.

Valerie, I think the rain helped out with the fires. It was nice to finally have some rain. I don't really get that much done. I just do little bits here and there.

Maryz, you drive yesterday doesn't sound like a fun one. Bummer about the oil. I can imagine it was a mess. Hope you had fun with Cindy today. How is she doing? Does she still go to the Houston show? I might go this year. I hand stitched the chicken wool project yesterday. I moved on to the machine this morning for the other two. I still have embellishments that I do by hand embroidery.

We had rain again yesterday. It's so nice to have rain. It did get cool though. Today it won't even make 60*. Looking forward to line dancing tonight. I'll work on my wool projects this afternoon. Dinner will be chili.

Have a lovely day.
