Good morning,

26* here, but will be 56* and sunny later this afternoon, so I'll take it!

FLO - I bet your DGD will love your vests! You are such a good gramma. I enlarged a few things for my sister with insets in the side seams. It worked fairly well even though my clothing construction skills are rusty at best.

JANA - sounds like just getting to Mr. G's PT department is PT in itself! Happy new computers! Bill is an HP fan. He uses his for everything. I use mine mostly to chat with my peeps (that's all y'all!) so I don't need much fancy stuff.

JUDI - please don't wait on me to post! I am a very early riser so usually no one has opened the day's thread yet. If not, I open two tabs - one has yesterday's posts which I read and one is new. I go back and forth reading/typing. Then I proof read. Lastly, I check to see if anyone has started the thread in the meantime. If they have, I cut and paste my post. If not, I type in the subject and hit submit. When we double post, it happens in that 10-second interval from checking to submitting. So, you will probably be using your monitor for only one week of your stay in FL? Is it a Holter monitor? Do they still use those?

LORI - how was the quilt show? Are you going back today? Did you find any irresistable goodies? Happy belated birthday to your dad!

MARY Q - I noticed you were AWOL yesterday. I was hoping you hadn't frozen to death! How did your eye appt go? I like a slice of cucumber in a glass of water. Adds a refreshing taste. We have used Glide thread for quilting and it worked well, but since we found Magnifico we haven't looked back. I use Masterpiece for piecing, using mostly neutral colors. About every 18 months we put in an order with Superior Threads. Did you finish your CN?

LYN - isn't Pie Day March 14th (my nephew's birthday and he really loves pie!). Your newsletter is starting the celebration early! Celebrate early, celebrate often is my motto for most good stuff. I bet the little birds were grateful for you running interference with them with that hawk! I will have to check out your Estancia chardonnay. We like Dark Horse buttery chard. Randall's (Safeway) sells it down here. It's more oaky, which we prefer to most modern chardonnays. They also have a "steel tank" variety. In WA, you can buy anything in the grocery stores. No more restrictions.

CHRISS - that sounds like a good hint to remove chicken from the bones. My Bill doesn't like rotisserie chicken and neither of us care for dark meat, so I probably won't be using that chicken hint, but it's still a good one. Glad you finally got started on your First Kiss. Hope there's more sewing time today for you. Hard to believe your little best man is almost 5 months old! Teeth are a good way to celebrate!

TINA - happy birthday to Frankie! For some reason I keep thinking he's in Sept. Are you sure he isn't trying to con you into two pies a year?? So sorry about all the damage in Holly's house. Are her floors ruined?

VAL - Fuel prices are going up here, too, just this past week. I think word got out that Bill & Mary Z are getting ready to hit the road again. By all means, I would talk to the BBB about your security company. And also, your attorney general. So, is your upcoming trip just to visit family/friends or are you also scoping out possibilities for a new place to live. There are 9 states with no income tax which can be a big draw for retirees (WA is one), but we have ~9% total sales tax. Lots of folks move to southern WA near the Columbia because neighboring Oregon has no sales tax. They live in WA and shop in OR. Other states with no income tax is AK, SC, TX, FL, TN, WY, NV, & NH. Just in case you are interested . . . . Is your DH's truck gas or diesel? We can plug in our diesel in freezing weather. And it's been plugged in at night for the past week! Is your Farmgirl BOM Lori Holt's Farmgirl Vintage?

Yesterday was another great day! Autumn's test went very well. It was a warm (56*) and sunny afternoon so we played outside with Amara. She laughs and runs, arms spread out, when she's in the sunshine. She has a big sandy area in her yard so we're going to get her a few sand toys for her birthday. She'll be 2 on April 7. Today is our last day of babysitting. We'll go back tomorrow just to say goodbye. We still have to pick up the last of the hanging quilts at the library, too - today or tomorrow. We've got a ton of photos from our time here and we'll make another Shutterfly scrapbook for her so she doesn't forget us. Today we'll also do our laundry at the kids'. Since I don't have any sewing going on right now, I've been making some progress on my embroidery project (Over the River and Through the Woods by Crabapple Hill). I've been working on the second of 3 embroidered panels. I have problems with my hands, though - I have CHE (Chronic Hand Eczema) and the dry climate in TX makes it a lot worse and my fingers and thumbs split after a while where the needle glides on them. I try to reposition the needle in my hands, wear bandaids, and use good hand creams and they all help some. But this is why it is taking me so long to get this project done. For supper I'm going to make a one pot meal of sliced smoked turkey kielbasa, onion, apple, & sweet potato all saute'd together. It might sound weird, but it works! Along with a side salad.

Happy Friday!

Morning
Yesterday I wad just finishing a batch of cookies, strawberry snickerdoodles, when new friend popped in with her 2 yr old daughter for coffee. I called DDIL and she brought my DGD, 11 yr old autistic one, over for a girls afternoon. It was real funny when the 2 yr old crawled on her mom's lap and drank her coffee saying, "yummm coffee." The smile on the little girl's face had us all laughing.
Today is grocery shopping.. boy can I scoot around faster in little Piccolo better and faster than the truck.

Good Morning It is 10 here and cloudy. Ken and I were both up a lot last night His C-pap quit working and My heart monitor kept chirping...we were channeling Jana and Mr G...I finally got up and changed the 2 leads again and it settled down...then Ken got a hose part for his machine and he settled down. We both slept til 730..Since he has no set hours for the rink it was all good. I have no plans for today and cleaned a lot yesterday so today I will try to do a few more rows of the quilt and see what else I can get into...I too have embroidery sitting on my desk and take a few stitched every once and a while. I am not fussy about the thread I use for piecing but I also use superior thread for my LA...But any 50wt cotton for piecing,, So I did order some from MSQC because i had credits I could use,,,,,well they had back issues of Block for $1.50 an issue so I ended up ordering 6 issues...My coffee break today will be looking through them...I have only been a subscriber for 3 yrs so there are a lot of back issues I can use,,,And the price is a lot less expensive than the subscription..which I will keep untill I see how the new issue looks...If it isnt as nice as the old I may move on...
But I keep my issues on a shelf and they fit well with the old format..
Well I need to get some hot coffee and see what the kitchen needs...When I get tired of sewing I may bake something,,,cookies sound good today, we shall see how the pantry looks,
Hope you all have a great day and Mary hope it is not too sad to leave...Amara each year will know when you are leaving more and more...(Leaving Minnesota and Colleens 3 littles was miserable...As we pulled away our last site was the 3 of them waving out the window and me blubbering and waving,) But we made the trip every couple of months. Hope the kids move closer to you in the future,,,

Flo, strawberry cookies sound interesting.

I have Bridge class this morning, then I need to clean this afternoon and wash the sheets.

Good morning Girls

WOW.. We are going to get a tropical heat wave today!! All the way up to 25* Above zero!!! If I had a car I could even leave the house! Evie is still borrowing mine, but that's ok, I really have no place to go!

Maryz.. Hope you can stock up on hugs and kisses today! What a great idea to make a shutterfly book for Amara again. Wouldn't that be great to have a book for every year that you are there! What a great thing to gift her with. How fun will that be for her to look back at all those photos when she is older. Yes I did finish my CN... It falls under that category of "Finished is better than perfect" I just have to stitch the binding down and I'm going to try your machine method today.

Flo... Many years ago, we had one of those big conversion vans... all decked out with fancy chairs and a couch. But even tho it could go the same speed as the car, it always just seemed to much Faster to run to the store in the car. The van was great fun tho--for a long trip to the Black Hills it was perfect. Sounds like you are enjoying your new little Picalo!

Judi... Saying good bye to kids is one of the hardest things we have to do as parents and grand parents. I think when Jen first moved to Alaska, she and I drove up together and I flew back... I cried all the way home! When I finally got to see Shawn (It has been 2 years!) when I met them in Montanna to drive home with them... I was a blubbering idiot!!! You can imagine how excited I am to know that Jen, David and Eli will be moving back to Minnesota next year!! We are practically counting the days.

Guess if I'm going to get that binding done I better get to it!! I picked up some little Onesies the other day and I may attempt doing a little embroidery on them for nieces babies! Cross you fingers. I'll open up on side and see if that helps getting them ready for the hoop!!

Wishing you all a fabulous Friday!

Today is National Compliment Day. I want all y'all to know that I think you are wonderful quilters!

As for yesterday, it was National Pie Day, NOT Pi Day.

National Pie Day is a celebration of pies that occurs annually in the United States on January 23. It started in the mid-1970s by Boulder, Colorado teacher Charlie Papazian after he declared his own birthday, January 23, to be National Pie Day. Since 1986, National Pie Day is sponsored by the American Pie Council.

Pi Day: The holiday is on Thursday, March 14 since 3/14 correlates to the first three digits of the mathematical constant. Math enthusiasts around the world, from college kids to rocket scientists, celebrate Pi Day on Thursday, which is March 14 or 3/14 — the first three digits of an infinite number with many practical uses.

Thanks for questioning me, learned something new.

Lois, Where are you? Did you get layered into a quilt on your new machine?

Tina, Belated Happy Birthday to Frankie! Sorry he had to fix pipes.

Valerie, There are marble quarries in the Marble Falls area. In fact, when they were repairing the jettys on Port Aransas a few years back, all the marble slaps came from this area. Had one of the workers as a neighbor in the campground.

MaryZ, Dark House buttery or regular Chard are both good.

Judi, Bummer about equipment keeping you both up. Nice that you could sleep in.

Chriss, Now that Lori mentioned it, did Marilyn come east and how's she doing?

When I got back from Marble Falls yesterday I ignored everything that could or should be done and cut fabric and have 4 blocks ready to sew together, then decide the border and backing.

I think I'll ignore all that stuff again today. The guys just got here and are going to prime the walls and ceiling, then paint. We had leftovers last night, so chicken will be tonight. My throat is a little scratchy, dinner may become chicken and dumplings.

Hope to see some of you in the sewing room.
Lyn

Good morning!

Another day of no snow, but we may get above freezing. Snow tomorrow, we hope. I'll be taking a quilt with me today to stay warm, while I wait for Mr G.

Did a scavenger run late yesterday and found eggs. Eggs are nonexistent at Costco and my Winco was almost 7 dollars a dozen! I carefully placed them in the car, to not break. 😀 Ethan and Joseph came down and hauled in the groceries and hauled the trash cans to the street. All the cold stuff is put away, but I still need to do a few non cold where they go.

After PT, I'll be in the Batt Cave. Still working on the borders.

It pays benefits to be a good student. Ethan is excelling at middle school and for some unknown reason, the school changed his schedule. Flipping the time for his math class. The new class is a bunch of kids not interested in learning math, so the teacher spends the entire time disciplining not teaching. So Ethan went to the counselor, in tears, trying to get the school to flip his schedule back. There was a conflict with another class, that class was sewing skills and a section on business management. Well, duh, double duh! Sarah was in on the conversation of the flipping and asked if we could home school that class. Sarah listed her qualifications and it was another set of duhs! So Ethan would be allowed out at 2:20, then the counselor realized that Ethan had already fulfilled the credits required and now moving him back to the good math class, he finishes school at 1:30. Sarah is still planning on teaching the sewing and business skills to Ethan this semester. But all this frees up time for cello practice and getting to the other school where Ethan goes for orchestra. The only bad thing is we pick Ethan up from school, there's no school bus until normal dismissal time. You can almost see the middle school from my house, about a long mile, not bad. So all is back to being good and a very happy Ethan.

Time is running out fast this morning, we've lost glasses - again!

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning everyone 🌞
We were 8° this morning 🥶🥶🥶🥶
Jazmyne's car is a 1990 Oldsmobile 98 Regency, it has 300,000 + miles on it, it was Frankie's Uncle GX's car that he drove back and forth to Santa Fe because he was our State Representative..... Jazmyne is very attached to the car for sentimental reasons but it's really not very reliable especially in cold weather. Frankie put in about $900 in parts getting it running 2 years ago so she'd have a vehicle to go to school, FFA meetings and work and stuff, she's now supposed to be saving to buy herself a better vehicle that she can rely on. It's been starting in the mornings since it's been being parked in our garage and Frankie puts the heat lamps on about 30 minutes before he starts it for her.
Holly had 5 rooms of laminate flooring ruined, her kitchen cabinets are ruined and we're not sure about 2 walls plus the bathroom where it all started at is pretty damaged.
Lyn, I looked up the pie/pi days too, thanks for the info. Frankie says pie day of course is on his birthday 😂🤣
We had Jazmyne bring friends over again yesterday, they played Payday and then Monopoly and we fixed them burgers on the grill and air fryer french fries, they loved them!
I ended up getting caught up on reading here this morning and I'm late getting my other stuff started so I better get busy around here.
You all have a great day!
Prayers for all in need 🙏
Tina

Oh Flo, I'll have to go see what Fiat I have next time I'm out there when it's not cold. It's red and white and like a 1958 or something like that, she's old.

Good morning. it's going to be another beautiful day today. We are supposed to see 65 degrees and tomorrow should see rain and mid 50's. But, according to the forecast on my computer it will only rain from 5 to 7 pm and there is only a 40% chance that it will actually happen. The lack of rain makes fire season year round here.

Since it will be so nice out I just may do a bit of garage cleaning. I clean, dad comes and makes little messes, I clean, he makes messes. Seems to be an endless cycle. But I love it.

Tina, I often check hose bibs and sinks worrying that a pipe will spring a leak. hope Holly gets the mess all taken care of and the expense isn't as much as it seems it will be. I think Frankie akes really good care of Jaz, nice that he preheats her car in the morning.

Valerie, I googled your Janome Jem, it's a cute machine. Great class size. I used to have a 1600p, it was given to me and I never used it. I gave it to someone else. The machine I wish I didn't have taking up space is a Janome 8900 QCP. I am looking for something small to take to classes and perhaps as Joanns closes they will have clearance sales and I can find one I like. Enjoy your sew time, sounds like you have lots to do.

Maryz, hope that today lasts forever for you. I can picture Amara running with her arms spread out and the huge smile on her face. I like those crabapple hill patterns, I'll have to see if I need to buy one.

Flo, cute the little girl saying yum ot coffee. Marilyn used to call it girl coffee. Her's was mostly milk and sugar. She'd sit on the couch with Jerry and they'd have coffee together. That is a smile making memory.

Judi, glad you got those machines to behave so you could get some much needed sleep. If I see Block magazines at a sale I will buy them but never thought to see the back issues on their website, I'll check it out.

Lori, Marilyn never moved. She decided to stay where she it. Got back together with the boyfriend and they are living life. She's the kid I wonder about. Your friend will love the kits you are putting together. They have so many cute things, glad you had fun at the quilt show.

Maryq, curious to see how your onesies turn out. I sewed black stripes on pink onesie (piglet) and the onesie was almost too small to go over the arm of the sewing machine. It wasn't easy and it certainly wasn't pretty. Glad the kids are moving home, it will be good to have them nearby.

Lyn, Mar didn't end up moving. I think I will follow your lead and when I am done here will ignore stuff. The school here does a lot of fun stuff for Pi day. They also do things revolving around the 100th day of school. We have a town near here, Raymond, where they quarry granite for counter tops.

Jana, do you wonder if school people even think before they make any decisions? Glad it all turned out well. Eggs are scarce here too. I paid $17 for 5 dozen. I usually buy the already boiled and peeled eggs from Costco but they were out. So I have to now boil my own. UGH.

I have a load in the dryer and probably shoudl consider getting dressed and having breakfast. It's been a very lazy morning.

Not even sure what dinner will be. I just don't seem as hungry as I used to be.

You all have a funday.
Chriss

A few booboos, but just read through them.

Just a quick drive by for me today. I have given DH the chores of planning the driving part of our trip. I did write down though to stop at MSQC and one more place.

We will be in the mid sixties today.Too, but if we get any rain, it's just going to be a drop here or there. I would say, southern california really needs a good pouring.

Well, I lied, Chris I thought the machine was a janome gem gold, it's not. It's a janomic jim platinum. Silly me.I need to keep my metals straight. What I had forgotten is it actually weighs something.

Tina, you know those older cards, many of them are worth holding on to. At one point I had my grandpa's oldsmobile cutless. It was yellow and it was a great car right until somebody smashed into it. Someone a few blocks down the street from me, has one the exact same yellow color.

Oh Jana schools can be such a pain in the you know what. Many teachers are up in arms here, because of course or discussing closing schools. Glad you could get stuff worked out.

Lynn, thank you so kindly for the compliment. I think everyday should be happy compliment day. Thanks for the info on marble falls.I just love that name.

Maryq i have a binding that also needs to be done, and one of these days.I'm going to get to it.

Lori, hoping bridge class is going well and that you're having fun.

Judy, I never think about my credits at missouri star. I should look and see if I have any.

Flo snickerdoodles are just about my favorite cookie. Mom used to make him for us all the time.Maybe that's why. I don't think she ever made strawberry ones though.

Maryz the upcoming trip is mostly to go.Visit my sister in virginia. I will also go see her son who is asking for some of dad's air force stuff. He is in minnesota, just about three hours or so from maryq. Then on to South Dakota, to visit with our son. It really is just to take a trip. The last long trip I had was actually when my daughter was about six months old, and my son was about four. As I said before, i'm trying to make one surprise visit, but i'm just not sure it's gonna happen. But I can't say anything else about that for now.

Well I best get to getting.I have things to do today. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
