Good morning,
Chilly here! Our thermometer says 40*, my phone says it's 35*, and the feels like temp is 29*. However you read it, Baby, it's cold outside!
JUDI - FOOD!! Isn't it a great invention?! I hope whatever you tried last night went down OK. And stayed down. Your tummy may have to adjust its sails a little after all this time going without.
CHRISS - Elliott's stocking is really cute! You did a beautiful job on it! He is going to love it! You bought those letters? I was thinking you drew them on and then satin stitched them. They look great! Sewing a knitted cap into a little Santa hat - what a brilliant idea! What is Dad going to fix after he finishes the outlets? Stew sounds pretty good right now! My basic stew is meat, onion, potatoes, carrots all in large chunks plus garlic. I use browned hamburger for the meat. Sometimes I add other veggies like celery. If you add peas, do it the last hour of cooking. For the liquid I use a combination of beer and broth but that's just how I was taught 45 years ago by an old cook. You can buy packets of beef stew seasoning, or you can add onion soup mix, or use your own herbs. I also toss in a few bay leaves to remove after cooking. I cook it all day in the crockpot. You can thicken the liquid by mixing a few TBSP of flour or cornstarch in abt 1/3 cup cold water and add it while stirring about 1/2 hour before the end of the cooking time. S&P to taste. Some folks thicken with instant mashed potatoes. My dad always added rutabagas to his stew. Sometimes I toss in some corn or a can of stewed tomatoes. And you could always make chicken stew and use chicken broth for a variation. I don't think there is any right or wrong way to make stew, and the 'recipe' is widely variable!
TINA - oh, now I see! Why didn't I think of 4x4 posts! I kept thinking half sheets of plywood!
This is gorgeous! Holly is very talented! And, of course, any handmade gift comes with a piece of the heart. Very special!! I hope Frankie feels better quickly. Bill has trouble with waxy build-up in his ears, too, and has had to go to the dr/urgent care a few times.
JANA - that's great about Mr. G's tests! How is his cognition? Will they let him drive again? What a great Christmas you are going to have! Funny about the laundry! You're right - maybe the next appt should be to the eye dr!
Maybe you could get Daniel to help sketch out that RR quilt,. Isn't that kind of what he does?
LYN - welcome home! Laundry! It follows us wherever we go, doesn't it. What's the plan for the sewing cabin? Did the finish guy come by yesterday? How long will you be "in residence" before going over to P. A.? Where will you spend Christmas? Have you started your MH since you parked it? My quilt classes are the first 3 Saturdays in January. And the quilt show will run during that time. They are trying to figure out how to display them so I'm not sure how it's going to go. I even thought of pushing several of their small square tables together and do sort of a bed turning thing. But can you imagine all the sticky hands on my quilts??! So I kept my mouth shut on that idea. Would love it if you came by! It will be at the Laura Bush Library in Bee Cave.
MARY Q - congratulations on your big "take"! I know you had fun making all those things, plus, you made them mostly with "found fabric"! Win/win/win!
Yesterday Bill took our truck in and then had to go rent a car, a white Chev Malibu. No idea yet what's wrong with the truck. They hope to get to it today. Maybe. Or maybe not. So I stayed home with the boys and we got out our new project. I'd forgotten that I did most of the cutting at home so that was a nice surprise when I unpacked my "kit". This quilt calls for 49 6" Ohio Star blocks. Half of them are red/white with white center. Half are white/red with a green center. Sashing will be white with matching green cornerstones. I got 14 blocks made yesterday. It's meant to look Christmasy because of the cheery colors. It's for no reason other than the pattern appealed to me when I saw it. It will be about 60" square and it will be for me - unless it's not. We are off to the kids today. On our way home, we'll
stop for groceries. Randall's (Safeway here) has a wine sale going on and who can't use a few more bottles of chardonnay?. . .
Make your day a good one!
