Good morning!

Happy Halloween! Or as Mr G says, teach children how to extort ! He's not a fan of Halloween. I have all the candy bagged in treat bags, ready for the front porch tonight. It's too cold here to wait outside for all the kids, so this year, I'll trust them to take just one treat bag,.

Yesterday was eventful at Sarah's house. Sarah's new stove had a part break, under warranty, so the repair man came to replace the bad part. They went downstairs to the utility room to shut off the breaker for the stove, when they found the hot water heater had broken and was starting to leak water out of the tank! Sarah found the leak just as the water was starting to leak and spill over the edge of the pan around the tank, and quickly shut it off and drained the tank, before major water in her finished basement. Whew! That was close! Sarah called the company we used to replace ours awhile back and they we there lickety split with a replacement. All done! Stove is repaired too.

Played with my bench pillow and got all the laundry done, even got the ironing done! Snowed a bit more, but melted off by noon yesterday. But still it's snow. And cold!! Time to start quoting my Stu, from when he was little, I wanna be warm!

I think we are finally going to file for Social security. Mr G worked and earned it, but we have a much better pension from his railroad job, so never took the SS. But after talking with our financial guy, we can, as all the rules and penalties won't interfere. That's what held us up all these years. So now to navigate that mess! And boy do I love the phone call block technology! I hate all the telemarketers calling to enroll or change your health care insurance! There's a robot that dials here at the same time everyday and the call block kicks in after one ring and hangs up on said robot. I hear the one ring , and know exactly what time it is, without looking at the clock! I won't even get started on all the TV ads!

So after the house warms up and it's not dark outside, I head downstairs to play. Oh yeah, don't forget, this weekend is the time change, fall back, one hour. We get a rerun hour,

Enjoy the day,
Hugs,
Jana

Yesterday I went up to play and was having a great time that carriage is worth its weight in gold.
So much easier to navigate I have a quilt started so after i get Bill's breakfast made I will be upstairs one thing that's good I'm getting in steps by climbing the stairs.
So this will be my day.

Judi what quilt are you working on?
Jana wow snow already glad you have your candy ready I got my candy bowl out and I'm ready in my area the kids are not aloud to come around till 5 -7.

Dinner tonight will be stuffed peppers in the crock pot.

Have a great day.
Prayers go out to all.

Happy Halloween! We haven't had trick or treaters in several years now so don't expect any tonight. I a going to Free Sew today and then slow stitch tonight. Will start the binding on my Morning Star. Not sure what I will take to Free Sew.

Still no word from the doctor so sending a message when I get done here. Slept better last night, only up a couple of times. Still with the cough and no fever, etc. A bit of a sore throat bS

I am getting really good at keeping my mouth shut. You would all be quite proud of me. Can't leave stuff in the microwave cuz you know who doesn't like to hear the buzzer. My reply, "that's what the stop button is for". UGH!

Nothing too much else is new around here. One more month of these night shift escapades and then done. I need to get my resignation letter written. Is "I quit!" good enough? LOL

Still no word from SS either so that will be my chore for next week. Still says they can't bring up the letter as I recently applied. I better figure that out before I quit. I only have to give 2 weeks notice so I have a bit of time.

Well I am off, I have to make my lunch and dinner to take with me, figure out some breakfast and get things packed to take.

Be safe out there today,
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

BOO! Good morning! and Happy Halloween!

We used to go out to Halloween balls years ago and occasionally won first prize. But these days, we're happy to sit in jammies in front of the TV and nap. We are so comfortably old! Though tonite, we are going out to dinner but we'll be home pretty early.

JUDI - we don't get trick-or-treaters either. We live in the woods down a long dark driveway. Properly spooky for the holiday. Clean the house, including floors - that's an ambitious to-do list you've written for yourself today! Our friend, Tex, was here last night and he is set for his knee replacement next Tuesday, election day. He said his dr told him no driving for 6 weeks. So, you aren't so far behind. I hope your house is sparkling by end of business today and you get a little quality time in your sewing room. If the house isn't sparking, turn the lights down low.

LYN - don't say the S-word! We're going to be hitting the road soon! We want no "issues" on our trip. How many days will you take to get "home" to the Texas house? It's just about 1,000 miles, right? Our rezzie in Austin begins Nov 19th. I hope we can connect this year. I wanna see your house and sewing shack!

MARY Q - oh I wish we could go back to voting in person, but about 20 years ago, it all changed to mail in only. Or drop in a ballot box which are at fire stations and libraries across the state. But we drove into Tacoma and put our ballots into the drop box in the lobby of the auditor's office. And we were able to track them and they were 'accepted'. Since there's been two ballot boxes in WA and one in OR set on fire they now have 24-hr security. Or so we're told. And they have "watchers" when ballots are opened and counted, too. So did you make any of those shoe bags? How did they work out? Did you get a date set for your new floor installation?

VAL - I'm not liking the 'consolidation of a lobe'. Pneumonia? I sure hope you find your doctor "in" today! I think with flu season in full swing no matter what is going on with your lung, I'd be staying away from public places and even your sewing classes until you have a diagnosis and treatment underway. How's the BIL doing?

SHARONA - I'd love it if you could attend my quilting class in Jan. It's only 1,000 miles. Hint, hint! I'd love it if our whole quilty "clique" could come! A big wooly spider! Gaaackkk!! Once in Texas we were sitting outside and noticed Foxy, who is often out with us, was playing with something. A tarantula! I'd never seen one before! We freaked a bit. Fortunately, in the spider world, they are gentle giants. So we used the broom, he crawled up onto it, and we relocated him into the woods. You know, when a biggie like a family Thanksgiving is on the horizon, we all clean like white tornadoes, yet I bet most guests don't even notice. Bill always says to wait and clean AFTER all the people leave which does make sense. But a big occasion is what gives me the motivation to really clean.

JANA - we don't want you having snow either! Not until we and The Big Tree are safely through Utah! We put running boards on our pick-up. It's a 1-ton Dodge single wheel with 4WD. It's still a climb but I can make it even with my short little legs. We have running boards on our Lexus SUV, too. I am just too short to sit my tushy on the seat and swing my legs in. Hope you get that bench pillow done soon. I want a picture. And wasn't there talk a week or two ago about you making a Christmas quilt? Is that still on the (sewing) table?

CHRISS - are you ready for window day? How many windows are you getting? We got new windows 3 years ago and they have made such a difference - house is quieter and warmer in winter and cooler in summer. My only complaint is now we can't hear the birds and owls. It's a real bummer about your new kitchen floor! Is it just in the kitchen or does it go into the dining room, too, since you said you have to empty the hutch again.

TINA - I hope Preston is feeling better soon. In the old days, when kids got so many infections like strep and tonsillitis, they did a tonsilectomy and/or adnoidectomy. They still do in some cases and it usually solves the problem. Has Preston's pediatrician mentioned that at all? Poor kid must be miserable. About 35 years ago both my girls and I all had strep. Worst sore throat ever!

LORI - yes, our calendar is filled to the brim. We are trying to see all our friends one more time before we leave for 3 months. And it just happens that all our medical and dental stuff is due this time of year, too. The things cats bring in! One of my cats - about 30 years ago - brought in a live snake (just a harmless little 14" garter snake) but still - a SNAKE! Finally I realized no one was going to come and save me, so I got down out of the chair and, edging around the snake, going for the broom. I started sweeping it towards the open sliding door. Sweep, sweep, sweep - past a dead little lizard! :o So it was sweep the snake, sweep the lizard, and I came to a dead mouse under the dining table!! So sweep the snake, sweep the lizard, sweep the mouse - all the way out the door and off the deck. Whew! I tossed the cat out, too, for good measure and slammed that door shut and locked it! Your car sounds beautiful!

LOIS - happy you are loving your new carriage! Sometimes I wish we had micro handles on our machine. You can control it more easily.

IRISH - you mentioned a cruise a while back and again a week or two ago. Didn't you say you were going on a cruise - with Kathy? - in December?

Yesterday I packed up all my class things, fabrics, tools, handouts, and even my small design wall (white flannel pinned to 2x4' insulations board) and took them all out to the trailer, cleaned my sewing room, and then made about 400" of binding for Mr. Snowman, who is off the quilting frame! So this morning, I'll trim him up and get the binding on, take a photo and put it on our trailer bed. Foxy will look mighty fine all curled in the middle of it. We're going out to Italian restaurant tonite with Doyle & Susie. They are both struggling to get around - she with a walker and he with a cane - but it was their choice to go out instead of just a happy hour at their house. I think they are getting cabin fever. I'm also going to bake a double batch of cookies - probably choc chip with walnuts. I have my last massage of the year tomorrow morning and it's also his birthday so he gets cookies plus I'll put some in the freezer for us for the road.

I hope your today is marvelous!

Maryz while I have just mentioned the SOB, this has been ongoing for at least 6 months. It's something more chronic. Has gotten progressively worse which is why I went to the doctor. Nobody else around me has gotten ill so don't think it's a contageous sort of thing.

Good morning!

Judi – sorry to hear about the man-plague. We don’t have any ToT's here for the same reasons. I will turn the lights off just in case. I hope you get what you want to have clean done without overdoing it.

Jana – how lucky that Sarah caught that leak. Glad you’re going to start on SS. My grandfather also worked for the RR and had the same concerns. Oh I’m SO glad we get our hour back! Thanks for the reminder.

Lois – woohoo for the new carriage! Yum – stuffed peppers sound really good.

Val – I remember waiting for a phone call from SS to let me know I’d been approved. It took almost six months. They called ONE day before my BD. The lady was very nice, but oh my goodness it was a wee bit worrying when I couldn’t see any progress being made. Glad you were able to sleep better.

Maryz – oh my gosh – a tarantula?! (My younger son used to call them ‘trarantuladas!). I would have run screaming. We have here in CO down in the desert areas a tarantula migrating/mating season. They have parties and watches, etc. You were so kind to relocate him to the woods. I like Bill’s idea of cleaning afterwords. Oh my gosh your sweeping story is just the best. Enjoy your massage – I may join you in baking cookies today. It’s nice to ‘get an airing’ every once in a while – I hope Doyle and Susie enjoy the dinner out.

Tina – I remember reading about a family getting strep over and over – they finally tested the dog and he was the carrier.

Lori – I hope it’s not too far a drive to get your new car.

Jim is meeting his bro and some other peeps for lunch today at Bud’s Bar in Sedalia. All they serve is a hamburger with a bag of chips. No thank you! I plan on getting started with the cleaning tasks and fit in baking some cookies – probably oatmeal with butterscotch chips as they are Jim’s favorite. Not much else going on here. Dinner tonight will be leftovers from Chipotle. Have a glorious day! xoxo Sharona

Good morning Girls!

WE HAVE SNOW!!!! Me and my big mouth, saying that a little white on the ground would make things pretty here! It's snowing like crazy, big huge flakes! But I'm not to worry, it won't last long. High temp will be 45 or so later.

Judi.... Do you still have a nurse hat? You might want to get out your supplies just in case Ken gets the plague---the thermometer, the tissues, the BP cuff, the cold meds, and grab yourself a a bag of "oh dear I'm so sorry you are sick" to scoop out when the whining starts!  We don't get trick or treaters here either, we're all old folks in this development, but if the weather stays nasty all day I don't think a lot of kids will be out at all.

Jana.... My DIL Kris worked for CP railroad for a few years, and when she first started and explained the benefits it sounded like a really good deal. Doesn't SS work a little differently when you retire from the RR? I think Kris would have stuck it out longer, but she had the most horrible boss of all time and it was effecting her health- the number one reason they moved back to MN from Calgary. Gosh, when it rained it poured at Sarah's house!! Good thing she caught that leak when she did!

Lois.... Would you like some of my snow? I hate to admit it, but it is actually pretty. I'm just so glad I don't have to drive to work it! I'm so excited for you to get your Gracie all set up and working so well for you. You will have such a great time being able to quilt your own things now!

Valerie.. You know, I'm thinking a resignation later with just big HUGE Capital letters saying "I QUIT" would probably suffice! They sure would get the hint! Do you have some kind of badge or something that would go through a shredder? Shred it and include that in the envelope too!

Maryz... I ended up making about 8 of those shoe bags, in a small & Large version. I'll probably take them to the craft fair, but don't imagine they will be a great seller, but who knows. There are fun and super easy to make. I even saw another tutorial for another pot holder, but am not going to go there!!! Am waiting on a call back about my floor. Chocolate chips with walnuts!! --my fave! 400" of binding--good thing you will sew it by machine, but it's a big one to wrestle on your machine!!

Sharon... You're baking cookies too! OMG it's been so long since I've actually baked cookies. I was just thinking about baking for Christmas and trying to decide if I even should... as a pre-diabetic I shouldn't even have a cookie in the house, but man I do love Sugar Cookies and Russian tea Cakes!

Chriss... I'm guessing you are busy with your new windows this morning! Shawn just put new windows in my old house and they look SO nice! I wish I had been able to do it years ago. You will love it when they are all done. I'm thinkin' new windows will help with AC and heat bills too! Sorry you are having trouble with your brand new floor!! Good thing it happened soon and under warranty.

Lori... Congratulations on your new car!!

Well, here it is after 10 already and I'm still in jammies. I was going to go meet Shawn for lunch at his office today, but it's so yukky, cold and windy that I think I'll stay in. Have any of you ever heard of "Bundles of Love" or is it just a Minnesota thing. Here it's a group of folks who put packages of baby clothes, quilts and things for babies in MN. I have a box of 56 knit baby hats and was going to take them to a local office--which happens to be in the same building where Shawn works. They are looking for sewists to make knit shirts and pants etc and maybe quilts. I don't do knits, tho I have at one time, but I might volunteer to put some other things together for them. For today I'm going to work on this little project that I pulled out of my closet yesterday. It's called "Little Purses" and I think it was from a long ago magazine. Trying to use up my stash of jelly rolls! Image

Today is my shower day... so I better get shakin' and get dressed!

Wishing you all a Spook-tacular Day!

Good morning everyone 🌞
It's pretty chilly out this morning.....32°, I turned the furnace on yesterday evening, it was windy and cold 🥶 but I do cold better than heat so I'm not complaining.
Judi, yay you're feeling better today, I'm so happy for you.
Jana, wow that was a close call at Sarah's, glad it was caught in time and all fixed now. Regular time is my favorite time, I call it God's time 😍 I'm looking forward to it going back myself. Kevin's new used truck has running boards that come out when the doors are opened and I can actually get in it with them and it's higher than his old truck was! The insurance company gave him a thousand more than what he paid for his truck about 5 years ago so he was happy about that! He bought a 2018 Chevy pickup from a coworker that only has 32k miles on it, it's like new. Elijah loves it and so far has been not crying to leave his mommy in the morning to go to daycare because he gets to go in Daddy's new truck 🥰😆😂
Lois, sounds like your new carriage is a perfect fit for you, awesome!
Valerie, goodness I sure hope the Dr gets back to you today. If it's fluid can they take it out? They used to drain my mom's lungs that way pretty often. I'd be a little 💩 and do things to aggravate your BIL so he'd leave sooner 😆😂 but that's me 😆😂
Maryz, your evening sounds fun even if it isn't a Halloween ball you're going to. It's Easton who is sick but Frankie gets their names mixed up too LOL so it's all good. I think the strep strain Easton has is antibiotic resistant and never goes away totally, I'm hoping once they get it killed he won't get it again 🤞 Can you believe he's 4'8" and 84.4 pounds and he's fixing to turn 11! Only 8 more inches and he'll be the same height as me! He's such a sweetheart ❤️ . Oh gosh that visual of you sweeping those creepy crawlies out was crazy! Your snowman quilt will be the envy of all....humans and kitties and dogs, words gonna get around 😁
Sharon, oh my goodness, poor doggy having strep, I've heard we can give it to them but never knew they could give it to us, crazy huh.
Maryq, send me your snow, I'll take it! I haven't heard of Bundles of Love but have Project Linus.
I'm waiting for it to warm up a little before walking. I need to do some cleaning and the dogs need a bath and a trim around their faces and probably hineys too, they go to the groomer just before Thanksgiving so if I do them today they'll need it again then.
My Dad's little Yorkie had to have the rest of her rotten teeth taken out Monday and she's not doing very well, I told him to call the vet, they may need to check her. Dad's Dr took him off his cancer medicine for a month to see if it helps his thyroid levels, if it does he's going to change his cancer meds. So we're waiting and seeing.
Well I better get busy, I've also had a request from Preston to make purple macarons for them for Halloween, they usually do a trunk or treat thing in town for about an hour and then go home and bake goodies and watch movies till bedtime. They're coming over here on their way home so I better get busy.
You all have a great day! Prayers for those in need 🙏
Tina

Good morning from the Mtn.

I was planning on us leaving today, but after a short 6 hrs night and knowing I had about 3 hours of stuff to do before leaving, I decided I was tired of pushing myself. Went back to bed for 3 hrs.

Judi, I will be mopping the hardwood floors here, too.

Lois, Stuffed bell peppers sound soo good. I've never done them in the crockpot.

MaryZ, I won't mention the S word again. Hope our paths cross in Texas.

Valerie, The letter could say, "Take this job and shove it." Quoting an old song.

Hi to everyone else.

Yesterday I finished loading the trailer between snow flurrys. My new friend is a Sledgehammer. Me and Sledge got the bars knocked down and locked on the back of the trailer. I swept the sewing room and did 4 loads of laundry. Finished folding at midnight.

I will do the floors, unload dishwasher and hand wash some pots and wine glasses. I forgot that I need to change the batteries in the security cameras and set up a new one pointing at our hot water heating system. Then I'm gonna do nothing the rest of the day. We'll leave tomorrow.

Enjoy your day.
Lyn
