Monday March 6

Post by WeSignificant » Mon Mar 06, 2023 1:16 am

Happy Monday AM! Hope everyone is well.

Went to Antioch shop yesterday. Jana Mount Diablo still has snow! What a winter. It is currently 37* and should get to 52*. Chance of storms including thunder and lightning. We will see what happens. I was able to get together half of the inside of DD quilt. My blocks are all together, just need to sew together the last 6 into 18 inch blocks. Right now they are in the 9.5 inch stage. This quilt goes together quite quickly if you need a fast finish. I was also able to get enough more fabric to have choices in borders and binding. Had it up on the design wall yesterday and I think it is a good choice of fabric as it can be seen as male or female.

Katy one day I will get to some cleaning around here. Back sews or it cleans. It just doesn’t want to do both. Maybe I should try your 1 room at a time routine. Sounds like you are going to have quite the garden. Love stuffed peppers.

Lori I signed up for the On Wander Lane from Shabby Fabrics, (easier for me) so should be getting the first mailing this month. Your Shamrock block is quite cute.

Izzy hope you are feeling better soon. We have been lucky with the winds and storms here, Knock on wood, have not lost power. Many people have though. We also use a generator when needed. Glad you can do a bit of hand sewing.

Becca I an yearning for the 70’s*. I was looking at an auction with a friend the other day. She does a lot of auction buying. Some of that cut glass goes for huge amounts of money. I couldn’t believe it. Bids as high as $1500! Just for a (shoot can’t remember what she called it) but she said you put fruit in it. It was a pretty piece but that’s a lot of dough.

Judi we have put in a garden for the last several years but thinking this year may skip it. Our soil too is not good. We have to buy soil products to get anything to grow. I am not sure but I think buying at the farmer’s markets may be cheaper than the garden. We produced hardly anything last year. It’s still too wet and cold here anyway. We can usually start planting now but not this year.

Maryz, I too need to invest in a new cutting mat. Mine warped somehow. I keep the blinds closed to keep the sun off of things but something happened. I will probably wait until after our trip in April. Not a lot of sense in setting up anything new here as too many coming to visit and I will need that room for sleeping arrangements.

Kathy that seems like a lot for a turkey breast. I will have to see how much they are here. I am trying to come up with inexpensive meals for when everyone is here and when we are at the delta. I actually had thought of a turkey dinner but if it’s that much, UHM????? Also my DIL has Celiac disease so really have to watch the gluten. She has it pretty bad. We even have to use a separate toaster and butter. That reminds me, I wonder where her toaster is? Probably in the shed. Guess I will just go buy another cheap one.

Hi Sherry, good to see you!

Maryq glad to hear the chores are done. Wish I could say the same. 2 more days of sewing and then chores.

Chriss it is so hard to wait for all these tests and yes I agree, it prolongs things. I don’t know why the medical community functions like that but it does. Praying things start moving along soon. I recommend keeping yourself busy and prayer. I have heard of Hornitos. Not sure in what capacity though. Maybe the news.

Well it’s after 1 AM. I have slept a few hours but woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep. Decided to get my 3 charts done and then decided this is the time of day I have to play with you all. I am spending the next two days at my friends in Vacaville. Since that shop has very few “Free Sew” days anymore, We have decided to have our own. Going to push to get my DD quilt done and to a quilter so I can have it all completed by April 10!

Have a good sleep everyone and I will see you all in the AM.

Good morning everyone.
It has been awhile since I have posted. I would log on and couldn’t think of anything to say. I have 3 quilts ready to be quilted. The one for my friend and the 2 memory quilts for a woman I used to work with. I asked her if she wanted to see pictures of them and she told me to surprise her. So after she gets them I will post pictures. Today I will get started on the quilting. My new Bernina machine is in the shop. The thread kept breaking. I would re-thread it, clean it, check the bobbin. I took it to the shop and they are checking it. The owner seems to think there is a burr somewhere inside it. Well, I need my second cup of coffee. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Good morning to all.
Izzy-I hope you are feeling better. It is not easy, but soon it will be over. When the colon test comes back clear you can start dealing with the newborns on your farm. How many animals do you have?
Becca- how is the moving going? Have you received a move-in date yet?

Today hubby and I are going to check out an area that is starting to build about 10 homes (I think) No HOA at all which is great. We'll take a construction loan and that will give us time to sell this house. Although I really love this house, it is time to leave. The growth here is terrible. Across the road there will be well over 1000 homes in 3 new dev. only on a 2 lane road. Maybe in about 15 to 20 years they'll add another lane. The county has not planned-and the traffic is horrible already. Like they say in the westerns--"it's time to get out of Dodge, partner"

I'll come back later and hopefully have good news on the property.
Have a good day.
Diane

Good morning!

Valerie - yes, the snow sticks around on Diablo. Once, Michael remembers that it snowed on Diablo in July! He was in high school then, in 1966. That was a cold summer!

We got more snow yesterday and then more again overnight. It's wonderful snow, the stuff Utah is known for, light fluffy powder. The powder hounds - skiers- are chomping at the bit for this snow. It's so fluffy, that you can't make a snow ball stick together. Very easy to shovel. We will get more all week long. So with snow, I'm on backup to drive to school, as Kari isn't comfortable driving in snow yet. Roads clear, Kari will drive, roads not, me.

Today is laundry and my bedroom. Karlie is learning to keep her room clean, so there's a challenge between her and me today, so Grandma better hop to getting my bedroom cleaned up and dusted. There's one spot that's off limits in the competition, Grandpa's desk. It's always piled high and deep! I will try growling a little bit and see if he will straighten it a bit. I am also putting away groceries that are awaiting me in the pantry in the Batt Cave. I need to do that, take inventory of what is needed to be restocked and do a scavenger run tomorrow. I know pasta is high on that list!

I am resetting up my extra sewing up on the dining table. I have almost all the sawtooth stars assembled, then I will sew the top together. This quilt is staying here with me. I also need to make chair quilt - not really to be used, but more for pad on a back of a rocking chair. The rocker is a very old chair, it belonged to Michael's grandfather and its all wood, no padding. I like things to match in decor and right now, a Christmas quilt is folded being used as the padding. It's long past Christmas! So this new quilt will be a quick one, more padding than fancy and will match the room colors. The rocket's back are long vertical , thin, spindles.

Well, that's about it from snow country,
Hugs,
Jana

Good morning ladies I posted my farm girl vintage top pictures. I finally got it done. I was so pleased with how it turned out. This is the one I’ve been working on all by hand, hand, pieced, and now hand, stitched, all the borders on and the final process now will be to hand quilt it

I do feel better today so the day starting off good let’s hope it stays that way yesterday was pretty rough. I go to the surgeon on Wednesday for my follow up and I’m sure then she’ll schedule the secondary surgery and we’ll see how it goes from there.

Back to work today it’s beautiful here supposed to be in the normal temperature range in the 50s all week nothing like the crazy weather we had last week

Hugs 🤗 prayers 🙏 happy stitches 🧵

Good morning,

VAL - you are busy, busy, busy! I don't know how you do it all. How many people will you be feeding when everyone is visiting? Ideas for meals might be tacos, swiss steak, pot roast, chili, soups, stew, roast chicken, salisbury steak, stir fry veggies w/chix, ham. Some of those are also crock pot friendly so you can fix it and forget it. Our DIL can't eat gluten, eggs, walnuts, or soy. Oh - and you can toast bread under the broiler or butter it and put it in a frying pan. No need to go buy another toaster.

CHRISS - What a great thing to do - help with the fundraiser. Keeping busy right now is good for you, good for Jerry, and certainly it was good for Hornitos! I don't know why medical wheels grind so slowly. Especially for specialists. It's torture. And yeah - who knew that a cutting mat could cause so much upheaval. This has displaced Foxy's water pitcher, too, which he is still working out. He kindly lets me use it for my iron, too, but he likes it replaced in its correct spot - and it's NOT! Poor kitty puts up with so much.

JANA - happy snow! And I wish you good success shopping and restocking. There seems to be a shortage of mustard and canned muchrooms. Don't know where they all went. We finally ordered two cases of canned mushrooms from Amazon. Great challenge - room cleaning. I finally gave up on trying to get my kids to keep their rooms clean. I told them as long as they didn't leave food in there their rooms could be whatever they wanted them to be. Oddly enough, my son was the tidiest. And even on a bad day my girls' rooms were never even half as bad as ours was when we were little. Makes me shudder now. Every now and then our big sister would come in and clean it for us.

DIANE - Didn't you have more family move in just a few blocks from where you are now? Will they want to move, too? I wonder what the plans are for around the homesite you have your eye on now. How far is it from said family and from the beach?

SUZETTE - I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering what you were doing. I remember your hubby was having sleep study troubles. How did that turn out? And aren't there twins coming in your family this summer? And you were working on two memory quilts. Will you be finding out the twins' gender and making quilts?

MARY Q - what a good little quilter you are - getting all your chores done! So what UFO did you pull out of the closet? I'm afraid to ask how many more are in there! And yes, my machine still sits in front of the window so I can look out. We put the cutting table with only one wing up in the corner to the left of the table. My work table next to the cutting table and is along the south wall that faces Vicki's and my ironing station (aka, old bathroom vanity) is right next to the hall door. All the tall cabinets are in the same place. All this makes it sound as if my sewing room is a sprawling 3,000 square feet! But it's only 100 feet (10x10 room). You have a good memory! You should probably come visit again now that I've rearranged some of the furniture!

SHERRY - so that was you I kept bumping into in the laundry room yesterday! Three loads here - got them all done! How about you? What are you working on these days?

KATHY - when you've done such a bad bad thing, but this is the place to come confess. You will enjoy that BOM. I saw that quilt! Beautiful! That's a lot for a turkey breast. Was it especially big? Organic? Gold? How much per pound did that work out to be? They might be cheaper as we get closer to Easter. I was going to look for one next shopping trip to take camping. I cook mine in the crockpot. But if it's so expensive, maybe we'll dial our meals back a little.

JUDI - Well, I beat you hear but I've been busy chatting and you snuck in - we save all our plastic bags. I have two big boxes of them in the garage because now stores are charging 8 cents for them. We use them to line trash baskets in three bathrooms - (1 trailer and 2 house). Do you have an expected time frame of how much longer Jane will take you? It will be a real show-stopper when it's done and on your bed!

IZZY - I will go see your pictures next. All by hand?? My goodness! I did a hexie quilt all by hand and it took me 12 years. From 1992 to 2004. And Lord help me, I started another one about 5 years ago.

Yesterday, besides laundry, I put binding on my Autumn Jewels quilt (black with bright batik leaves), snaps on the shirt I made and then removed the darts I had put in it so that gave it 2 more inches of shirt, sorted out a few more things in my sewing room, and made ten more crazy blocks. Today, I'll do some more blocks, and then I'm going to lunch with my birthday group. Sadly, the fourth (and youngest!) member of this group (all former co-workers in NICU) passed away in January.

I had a text yesterday from Cindy. She said that Sue's dog, a 6 yr old basset hound named Mr. Montgomery, died last Thursday and her mom died on Saturday. Her mom lived in a facility in Bellingham. She says she won't be coming for memorial service. It's just too much for her right now. She says her house is so empty. I think she could use more prayers.

Make your day a good one.

Just a quick fly by. No sewing for awhile here. I have lots of stuff on our calendar for the next few weeks. Our condo HOA is being turned over to the group of homeowners and neighborhood is going to meet first as a group before we have to meet at the lawyer's office. Plus we are going to our son's this week to see our grandson on his leave time. Just a day trip as our grandson will be leaving on a road trip with his college buddies. And we have other stuff for DH and his medical issues.
Appointments to set up, etc. So I cleaned up my sewing stuff and now need to vacuum and clean whole house.
Finished my binding on my Sew Along quilt. Need to do a label yet.
I will post a picture. Wondering how many have finished their Sew Along from that project??
PLEASE share your pictures with mine. I would love seeing all the different colors and lay outs.
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Good morning. I believe it's going to be a wonderful day today. The sun is starting to come up and there is no snow. So much to be grateful for, no snow is a biggie. Depending on which weather site you look at we will be anywhere from 45-50+ degrees today and there should or should not be rain here. Used to be you could look up the weather and it would tell you what it was going to be. I think the weather people are trying to make me insane.

Valerie, so glad you came out to play. Hope you got back to sleep and are fully rested. Enjoy your time at your friend's house, hope you get lots of sewing and chatting done. I am sure you probably told us but which quilt pattern are you using for DD quilt? I am patiently waiting for his test results. At least the test is done and there will be results. I've already turned it over to God and will except the outcome, Just wish I already knew the outcome, after the 17th I will not be able to say that. How many days do you need to menu plan for your company?

Lois, I'm thinking of heading into town to find groceries too. Perhaps I will see you at the store. We don't need much but I do need a few things.

Suzette, hope your machine is an easy fix, looking forward to seeing those quilts.

Diane, I get the reasoning for a HOA but have no desire to live in one. Hope the lot you are looking at is large and provides you for what you want to build. Here there was a 5-acre minimum lot size which has been cut into 2 1/2 acres. In the city where my dad lives the newer construction areas have almost no land and you could almost reach out and touch your neighbor without leaving your home. Hope the new place you are looking at has not huge growth upcoming in your lifetime.

Judi, I agree about changing up the menu. We often have the same things over and over. Unlike Ken, Jerry is quite picky which means that if I want to have something he doesn't like I need to either make extra and take it to my dads of freeze it. I've been wanting cabbage rolls. If I do go grocery shopping I may get myself a few shrimp.

Jana, Jerry is doing taxes on the computer in the spare room. I suggested we clean out the spare room which has become the house junk drawer. He said not till after the taxes are done so I completely understand about Michaels desk. It would be nice if the men folk would go someplace for a week so we could get things done.

Izzy, I saw your quilt top this morning, it's beautiful.

Maryz, plastic and paper bags here are 10 cents. Jerry was wrapping a box to send to Marilyn and wraps his packages in brown paper. I went to the store and bought a dollars worth of paper bags. We also use the plastic ones for bathroom garbage. Funny isn't it? How animals don't like change. One thing out of place and they are letting their opinions be known. Good thing we love them. I think that medical stuff moves slowly because there are so many people and so few doctors. Seems that more people have more medical things that need attention. I don't recall as many illnesses as I did 10 or 15 years ago. I blame things like additives in the food and the change in climate. Lots of junk out there for us to ingest.

Velda, hope the HOA turnover goes well and prayers for DH's medical stuff. Safe travels to go see DS.

The big debate in my head. Grocery shopping today or tomorrow? ugh. I really wish that we would get a couple of 70 degree days so my driveway would really dry out. I can use it but a heavier vehicle can't.

I found a group on FB called "Lockdown project" it's kind of a quilt block of the month that happened during the covid lock down. I've picked out 4 quilt blocks that I like and might use one or all of them in my charity quilt. And another group called School House Dash, I may save all of the blocks for a later date. The layout is really cool.

That's my day, up in the air. You all have a fun day,
Chriss
