Sunday, June 19th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Jun 19, 2022 4:46 am

Good morning,

And Happy Father's Day to all the dads in the crowd! We aren't doing anything super special, but Bill has requested spaghetti and meatballs for his supper, so I'm happy to oblige. I heard from Becca, so I copied her message and posted it here in Sew-in. I hope you found it.

CHRISS - is it safe to take off my sunglasses now? Are you home from visiting Richard? Such a nice day you had! One of the first trips Bill and I ever took together was to Monterey for a conference for his job. A pretty town! We strolled Cannery Row, too, and their customer appreciation dinner was held in the aquarium. They served salmon! We got a lot of bulgy-eyed stares from the 'residents'! I hope you didn't eat fish in front of the fish!

VAL - so sorry to hear about Covid in your house. I know you were wondering what to do with all that extra tine you had on your hands. I will pray you remain negative and your patients recover quickly and completely. Thank goodness you are all vaccinated. It could be so much worse.

VELDA - nice to see you here! How was the wedding? Are you home now or staying a few more nights? You are going to hand quilt on a loom? How does that work? Or did you mean hoop? Or are you taking up weaving as well as hand quilting? Do you still bead?

MARY Q - so, you had a busy day with your KC quilt. Does she know you make all those repairs before quilting them? You earned some of Lois's apple pie for sure! And absolutely with ice cream! What are you doing today?

JUDI - sounds like Ken is pouring on the coal to get the basement finished. How big is the overall space? Your saying really hits home! lol! I think we all have that same plan.

LOIS - heads up! I found out yesterday that the 118" backing shrinks when washed. Mine shrunk 4".

JANA - Given your description of St. George, I'm not sure you did Aaron a favor by helping him get a battery so he could go there for a visit! We made a sudden, short visit to Costco ourselves yesterday and we ran into John & Janice, but didn't see Jana & Michael. You must have been in another aisle.

Yesterday I made a pair of pillowcases to go with my Irish Chain. I did the seminole border on the cases, too. Then cleaned my sewing room. Bill was loading my 96"x116" quilt and we realized the backing shrunk 4" so I had to cut a 12" strip off the side and sew it onto the bottom. I also had to piece the 90" batting. But we got 'er on the frame! Today we're going to talk quilting pattern and thread. At Costco I bought 4# of strawberries so I made 1 batch of jam yesterday, too. Just before we left for Costco we saw the coyote back in side yard, about 15 feet from our house, trying to figure out how to get the neighbor's chickens. I opened the door and yelled and he ran off. That's 3 mornings in a row we've seen him. I'm keeping my eye on Foxy! Today is still a question mark. Bill wants to work on the trailer. I might work in the yard or I might make some tote bags for my sisters. But I will be making spaghetti for supper with watermelon for dessert. I'd bake him something special but he bought apple strudels at Costco, so we need no other baked goods in the house right now.

Hope your day is a good one!

Good morning Mary, It is another cool morning 50 here, but the sun is shining and we will go to 80ish. I have to admit I didnt sleep very well the aches and pains were there with the brain that wouldnt turn off.
I started out to do yard work yesterday and ended up cleaning out the barn ( a large shed) We call it the barn because when we moved here it was a small barn we had to rebuild it but it is still the barn...It was an open the door and throw things in...not by me. I hauled and purged and filled a dumpster,,,while Ken was working in the basement. I threw away a lot and you can actually walk in there and get what you need. All the yard tools are in one place...( still wondering why we need this large assortment of shovels.) I had Liam come and cut the grass as Im not very good on the tractor. DD and Jeff came and we had snacks and drinks while the grass was being cut...they left around 5.
I did put the fabric and start on a SG block but I didnt get very far..maybe later today...Today I have a burn pile to take care of and weeding...Hope your day is productive..
SO happy to hear from Becca, glad she is better praying that her Dh bout with shingles starts to go away soon. Now I will wonder about Cindy and how she is doing,XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Happy Father's Day to all the men.

Had a wonderful visit and lunch with Aunt Joyce and most of her kids. She has 4, 3 sons and 1 daughter. Sons all live within a stones throw. DD, Mary Lyn, lives in Iowa so I didn't get to see her. Aunt Joyce's husband, Connie, died of an aneurysm on the 2nd election day of Reagan. He was only 50. John, the oldest runs the farm. Identical twins Tim and Tom help, but have other jobs. Tom's a big equipment mechanic. Tim has an Auction company and is Nebraska Public Service Commissioner for District 3. Got to visit with 2 of the wives also. After lunch the kids left and Aunt Joyce and I visited for a bit. I took my Mandolin and she was in awe of all that goes into making it. I even played a bit of the Tennessee Waltz for her. John text to make sure I got back to MO last evening. He told me it really helped his Mom to have me visit. Mary Lyn has a grandson who is very ill and the parents have him in Pennsylvania seeing a specialist. Nolan is only 3. He has a rare condition, limp nodes are filling with fluid especially in his lungs and around heart. Prayers would be appreciated.

I will try and answer all of MaryZ questions. Friday I cut out 4 blocks for June lotto. 2 Martha Washington and 2 Tall Ships. Hope to finish them today. As for the Mandolin, I'm trying to practice every day. There's a belief that if the instrument is sitting out where you see it, your more likely to pick it up often and play more. I bought a stand and it sits behind the passenger seat, when parked. No previous string experience. Took piano lessons for 6 months when I was in junior high, but then we moved from Colorado back to Iowa for 2 years. When we moved back to Colorado my parents sold the piano at the farm auction.

Time to walk and feed Minnie, then sew.

Morning
Baking yesterday was nice. Steaks for supper, so I may make sourdough bread to go with it.
Off to church, then to pick up a few groceries.
Happy Father's day to the dads of all kinds.

Good morning!

Happy Father's Day, to all the wonderful guys in our lives! Dad's and Grandpa's are just great! Michael is not a smiler, and Lila calls him Grumpy Grandpa. She has him wrapped around that 4 y/o finger! Well, all the grands do!

We are heading over to church a bit earlier than normal. The Bishop wants to visit with us. In our church language, that usually means that one or both of us will have a calling changed. Could add a new calling, or release us from serving in what we do now. I hate waiting! I try to out guess the Bishop, that never works, so we will see in a bit.

I finished another block on the Main Street pillow project. I am getting the hang of the instruction lingo and I cut out and labeled the fabric for the block. I was a bit more organized this last block. Still 25,000 stitches and 40 thread changes.. The next block is a red pickup truck and calls for a small piece of red leather in the embellishment kit I bought. Not there, looked high, low and everywhere, no find. So will go to Hobby Lobby tomorrow and see if I can find a craft piece to use.

Dinner is at our house tonight for the kids. I even organized and prepped the food yesterday. Just a few finishing touches after church. This is so not like me, Michael will accuse a poor alien of abducting his original wife and replacing her!

So happy to check in here today and see updates on Becca and Cindyg. Made my morning good!

Hugs, very a impatient me!

Jana

Good Morning Every one!

Happy Father' Day to all the Dads in your lives.... Fathers and Sons and Brothers. I was blessed to have an awesome Dad... and even though we didn't always agree on things (and fought a little now and then) He was my biggest supporter when I needed him!

Weather app says we are heading to 98 today, so I might have to break down and turn on the AC... there's a wonderful breeze, so I hope to enjoy that for a while before I have to close the windows.

Maryz... Thank you for the update on Cindy and Becca... I wonder if one of Cindy's girls is able to come help her out a little. Her grandson used to live close by too, if I remember correctly! Bummer that your backing shrunk... good thing you washed it first. Does Bill have a shamrock design in his computer... that might be appropriate for an Irish Chain quilt! Not sure what the plan for today is... sewing something.. I HAVE to get my calendar blocks done!

Judi.... AH.... so you cleaned out the barn while Ken was busy in the basement? So you could throw stuff without him looking over your shoulder? Do I remember that he likes to keep a lot of "stuff". Nice of Liam to mow for you. Was Ken able to get a lot done in the basement?

Lyn... You are brave to learn a new instrument! Someday we should have a zoom meeting so you can play for us!

Flo.... Did you keep cool while you did all that baking? Since my BFF lives in Oak Grove, MO I check on her weather once in a while .... and since she's not all that far from you, I'm guessing you had a pretty "sweaty" day!

not sure what the plan is for today. Shawn is coming over to help me with some heavy lifting things, (salt for the water softener) and maybe install one of the really nice bright lights in my sewing room. My sister is babysitting her DIL's kids and they live practically right across the street from Shawn. So I might connect with her today. I did finish one of KC's quilts yesterday and have 2 more I think. One is such a mess I'm not sure how to salvage it! Wish me luck

For now I need more coffee, some music and a shower!
Keep cool where ever you are.

Good morning and blessed Sunday to you all.

Self test this AM says I am still NEGATIVE! Thank you Jesus. Many people say I go overboard with infection control but this is what keeps me healthy. I am going to get a PSR test this AM at 11 just to verify. Probably have enough tests to test daily for a few days. Will continue my nurse duties today but will need to back off a bit due to the back. So yes Mary, I now have my extra time filled!

Mary sounds like food sources may be slim in the coyotes back yard? Yes please keep tabs on Foxy. Now how do you put a Seminole border on a pillow case?

Judi I so need to purge my shed too, feel free to come and give your advice. Bet it's a wonderful feeling to have it all done. What is an SG block?

Lyn sounds like you have a big family. That is one thing I am lacking in. I have sisters who have kids but we don't seem to get together. Too spread out I guess. My Mom played the Mandolin but I don't know what ever happened to it. Prayers for little Nolan. I can't imagine how this must be for his parents.

Flo what did you bake?

Jana can you turn down a calling? I just wonder what happens if it is something you are not interested in or don't like. I am thinking if the Lord asks you do to something, maybe you should just do it, but maybe not.

Maryq glad you have AC at your new place. I will be turning mine on before long. What is a KC quilt? I guess I have to start learning these abbreviations.

Today just more nursing. My appt at 11. DH just said he has a phone appt at 1200. I will also go to the sewing room today. Maybe nobody will find me amongst the piles of incomplete projects!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. Stay cool, healthy, and wise.

Valerie

Happy Father's Day to all our DH 's and sons and brothers. ๐Ÿ˜‰
LOL Maryz, thank you for correcting me. I didn't even realize that I called it a Loom, instead of a Hoop. It's actually a square. Is there an even better word, since I always think of embroidery hoops as round. This being designed for quilting by hand on your lap. LOL
Wedding was lovely. Reception venue was on a huge farm of a family friend of the bride Awesome huge shed transformed into the most beautiful romantic setting. Beautiful day for the outdoor type venue. Actually was getting so chilly right before sunset. Great food with yummy grilled pork chops and grilled chicken with all the trimmings.
We are enroute to home right now. About an hour to go.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
HUGS, ๐Ÿ’• Vel
