Saturday, March 21

Post by suzette58 » Sat Mar 21, 2020 2:18 am

Good morning everyone.
Our local quilt shop is closed due to the Corona Virus. Today is the first day of the quilt mystery. I guess we can just drive up and get it. Today I am going to finish cutting the second kit and sew the first clue. Goodness knows I have plenty of time to do that. When I got up this morning and took the dogs out I looked up at the highway and something is going on. Police and fire were up there. It was about an hour ago and they are still there. Hubby is still sleeping so I don’t know if he heard it but I didn’t. I am going to get another cup of coffee. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Morning
Finally stopped raining here. But rain again most of next week. The ground is very soggy.
Nothing new. Kidney infection cleared! My back ache now is just from accident years ago when I cracked 2 vertebrae & had severe whip lash.
Happy National Quilting Day!

Good Morning a cloudy dull day, 27 here winter again?
In just a blink of an eye everything can change, Last night I was sewing the snowmen and I got a phone call...seems the nurses in our area are running out of masks, I went to my quilters guild and got them busy sewing masks out od cotton...easy 10-15 minutes each, I did 7 last night and cut out 30 more...soon as I posted it there were 4 nurses from for local hospitals begging for them. seems they wear them over the n95 masks to prolong their life and also the staff not taking care of the covid patients wear them for other patients. the need is great, now we are having trouble finding 1/4 inch eleastic DD will take them to her hospital and my niece will take some to hers and 2 other nurses will take them to their hospitals..if we can get them made,,
leave it to quilters to come up with a solution,,,and a helping hand, now to find 1/4 in eleastic...i have already used up what I have,,,I hate to go out,,,and search but will do what I have to do..if you have any lying arould that you dont need wind it arould a piece of cardboard the size of an envelope and put it in the mail to me I would appreciate it,,, or check with the nurses you know to see if they need them where they work....thanks so much Now more coffee....and a sad note Kenny Rogers one of my all time favorites died yesterday RIP to the gambler..XXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ps if anyone has elastic to spare I will send you a fat quarter in your choice of colors as a thank you or send you postage money which ever you prefer...or better yet make them for your own nurses

Bright sunny morning here in SC.
Suzette- my lqs is opening 4 hours a day. BUT each day from 12 to 1 they are running a big sale. So they will have a lot of women together for that hour. I think they are putting to much pressure on the workers, all who are over 65 years old. The governor has said no groups over 10 people with a 6 foot distance. Well, that is not going to happen. I hope no one shows up. I worry for the workers.

Becca- did you file a report over the dog bite? Check it out yourself, if possible, if you did then call and report it. Some people should never have animals or kids.

Flo- you have had a rough few years. Hopefully the worst is behind you! Happy to hear the kidney infection is gone.

Gram- the nurses are the first line in helping the sick. It is great you are making a useful item for them.
I don't have any elastic but I do have a prayer for the nurses.

Things are quiet here-no need to go out to the stores. So, I'll work on the qov top I started the other day.
Coffee is calling

Good morning,

So sorry to hear about Kenny Rogers. :( I've always loved his music. RIP.

JUDI - Thank you for giving me the nudge I needed! I will try making masks for our area, too. And while I know people are more important, don't forget Vets use masks, too. The need is great. I have enough elastic for 15-20 masks. Wish I'd thought to stop in Joann's yesterday when we were in Tacoma.

FLO - glad you are feeling better.

SUZ - I saw your photo on FB. Wonder what was going on . . . At least your LQS has back door service. Many are doing that here and in Oregon, too.

BECCA - Scary about that biting dog! I would carry pepper spray when walking. And I suspect that letting that dog loose is violating a sheriff's order to keep him confined. He should be reported, but probably by the person who actually saw the dog out. Or perhaps the dog got loose one day on its own.

SUE - thanks for the info. Did you and Kenn have a nice anniversary? Got your binding done yet?

JANA - shopping has become an all day chore! We wipe down our mail, too. And per your suggestion, tossed our clothes into the washer when we got home from our appointment (and from getting our mail!) yesterday. I figure when our Clorox Wipes are gone we'll go "old school" and use a rag and a bucket of bleach water.

MARY Q - so sorry about your bathroom! Guess you'll be getting extra exercise. My problem is sometimes my almost 70 yr 0ld bladder doesn't like to wait while I bounce it up and down stairs!

CAROLE - so good to see you here yesterday!! I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering how prevalent this virus is in your area. Glad to hear Luke is doing better. Keep up the good work, Nurse-mom! And how is Ken doing since his last surgery? And how are YOU feeling?

KATHY - how thoughtful of your DD to have meals delivered to you! I've always been curious about those meals. You must give us a report!

DIANE - how strange in this time to have a sale like that LQS that might crowd folks into the store. Hopefully she is offering curbside or back door service for those sale items! That is what the Stitchin' Post in Sisters, OR has been doing for a few weeks now - call in your order and they will bring it to you at the back door. Purrfect!

Yesterday we had our meeting and signed our new wills. I had an old will but in that my deceased brother would have inherited my 40+ year old children. It was time to update. And we did a trust, durable power of attorney, health care directives, etc. All for what we thought was a very reasonable fee! And this attorney was a specialist in elder law and trusts. SOO relieved to have it all done! I also worked on my UGRR swap blocks. And now I'm going to teach myself how to make surgical masks! I know some hospitals here are begging for volunteers to make masks and I suspect doctor's offices and vet hospitals are the same.

I hope we can all make the most of our confinements! It's kind of what we quilters pray for. Maybe we overdid it.

Good morning all! So sorry to hear about Kenny Rogers dying on the news today. He was one of DH's and my favorite singers. We saw him once in concert many years ago. Got some snow on the ground this morning when I got up. Just a little but so different from yesterday's 60 degrees.

We have our first case of the virus here in my county. It is a 56 year old woman and that is all they will say right now. Guess it really is spreading fast. I hope it hits it's peak soon and starts to subside so we can get back to some normalcy around here. So many people are out of work. I am just staying in. Only go out to get my newspaper and then come back home.

Will be doing some sewing today. Yesterday my DS2 and my 2 DGSs came over to see me. The boys are so bored with not having school especially Chris since this is his senior year and he runs track which they are not having. They do have their homework from the school to help a little. We watched a year old college football game on TV since no other sports were on. They did eat lots of Grandmas snacks that I bought for them. We had a good visit.

Well, better go get some breakfast for us. Hope everyone stays well and safe.

Good morning!

Sarah let me know about the masks to help last night. They also asked to make them from the non tear away stabilizer used in machine embroidery work.

Quiet here. Fire department is begging for Kate to help out. More worries!

Sad to learn of the passing of Kenny Rogers. My brother, Tommy loved the first group he sang with, the New Christy Minstrels. I grew up listening to them.

Not much here, a quick swipe at uglies and then down to the Batt Cave.

Hugs,
Jana
