Re: Happy Hump Day Wednesday January 15, 2014
Yesterday I wrote a long post and then lost it and I didn't have time to repost, bummer.
Emily and I went down to see Tia yesterday. One of the men from our fellowship is accompanying her on guitar while she sings at her recital.(Feb 22) Tia's house is about half way so they practiced there. I got to help Tia make lunch and visit with the babies. And I get to do it here again today!
I'm in a reading mode so not much sewing happening here, although I do have one Sylvia block done for this week, only two more to go.
I read The Winding Ways Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. I don't especially like her books but this one my sister gave me at Christmas. Now I'm rereading North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. I'm reading to try and keep things off my mind. Although sometimes I have to go back and reread chapters when my mind wonders.
We've had a break in the cold and I've been enjoying the January thaw.
Keep looking up,
Vicky

Good morning Vicky, Lois and those that follow.
I woke up to a very foggy morning. After hubby goes to work today I will head out to my studio and work for awhile before I have to go for my first treatment. I am not going to try and layer Lydia's quilt because it is really damp outside. So, I will work on my nephew's wedding quilt. Well, I can't think of anything else I want to say. So, have a wonderful day.
Vicky - I like the Elm Creek books but wish she would write one about the quilters. The last 3 have been historical. They have been good tho.
Lois - hope you get through your uglies so you can get to sewing.
Suzette

SHERRY You need n award.Your breakfast sounds tempting.
KATHY Glad DD is doing better & that the camara Turned up.

Re: Happy Hump Day Wednesday January 15, 2014
Good Morning. Wow did you look at the calendar? We are half way through January. Can you believe it?
First of all, I must answer the question from yesterday? "what is corn hole" Well, in other parts of the country, it might be called "bags". It's a popular yard game where you pitch bags filled with corn and weight of 1 lb. to a slanted board with a big hole at the top of the slant. If you get a bag in the hole, you get three points, but if the other team pitches and gets one of their bags in that hole, it cancels out your 3 points. There is more to the scoring, but that gives you an idea. You play to 21 and play it as teams, so when we have about 18 people playing it makes 9 teams and it takes awhile to play down the elimination to get a winning team. We have quite a good time. I tried to get my husband to go and play with us, but he tried it once and never went back. He didn't feel he was good enough, but heck, none of us are really all that good, some of it is just plain LUCK. Lots of fun for me.
As for my bird house blocks, I did the first one to see if my fabric would pull in too bad, whew!, it turned out ok, so now that is a go.
I enjoy all of your posting, but can't remember who or what I wanted to comment on. So I will just say to all of you, - Have a great day, doing your "uglies", or just sewing up a storm in your sewing room or studio. Prayers for all those with needs and struggles.
I am just like Lyn on the beading vs the sewing. We all went up to our beading yesterday, but seem to be working on the same project week after week, because we have so many sewing projects going, that have us focused those instead of the beading. I might just have to limit what I get involved with next month, so I have more time for other things.
Just like today, I should go up to the paper tolling classes, but I really would rather get my bird house blocks ready to applique and work on this afternoon at our sewing group. Yikes! So many things to do, so many things I like to do, not enough time in the day to do everything!!!
As I said before, just have fun today! And that is what I plan to do. I will stop and think, what do I WANT to do? and that is what I shall do. LOL
Hugs
Velda

Re: Happy Hump Day Wednesday January 15, 2014
Good morning... another great day... so many things going on...
Today is Suzettes radiation, Scrappy Pat's Chemo and my phone interview for that job I told you about...Prayers that God handles it all as he sees fit.
got to have dinner with my son last night. and because the BOM webinar was delayed I didn't miss it.. I really enjoyed it and now have a clue what to look for when I make my first blocks. I plan to sew my birdhouses then tackle the mystery swap BOM..
when the bird houses are done I will be ready with the next swap... I have made a final decision on what it will be... pick out your reds and WOW's...12 1/2 unfinished block, quilters choice.
Judi, glad you're getting so many quilts done.. and hope you got dinner out last night..glad your friend is doing well.
Velda, exciting that you finished a birdhouse... you will have them done in no time...
Cindy, I must have missed it... what's in the roast.?
Kathy, what a blessing that Kim is doing well.. in no time this will all be a memory and she will be back to her old self.. very cool... I knew you were finishing things you had started.. wow, you have a lot to finish...lol
Karlene, our weather is off also.. I think our squirrels hibernate...there was a news story where skiers were skiing down a hill and a bear trotted across the slope.. he was supposed to be hibernating but wasn't.. imagine that...
Sharona, did you watch the webinar? I am looking forward to finding my fabric and making my block...how cool to see so much wildlife, have you seen the disney movie the fox and the hound? maybe that's the story with your dog and the fox???
Sherry, how did you like the BOM mystery? prayers for your DH.. home health workers are a huge blessing.
Lyn, your birdhouse is really cool. hope you girls get a chance to meet and eat....and I hope your boat motor gets fixed, I could use some cat fish
Izzy, have you picked out your fabric yet? I would love to see your choices.
Mel,sorry your son is so draining.. but you're right the up side is DGS...
Carole, I don't know what I typed that sounded wise.. lol... but I probably wouldn't be fun to live next door to.. I keep to myself and am not much of a people person.. I don't stop and visit well...actually I'm kind of snobbish.. by the way.. Reagan sounds like a genius to me...
Jana, isn't the world wonderful through kids eyes. I think it's so wonderful that you do so much with the girls group.. I sure wish Ihad learned the stuff you are showing them when I was young.
Lois, how is work going? how is your foot..
Vicky, I was reading the quilt series by Chivarini but had to wait for her books to come out and lost track of where I was.. so I quit reading them.... what is the north and south book about?
Suzette, hope you sail through your day.
Becca, funny how deer and other critters are spooked at first then move right in to eat whatever they can find.
Where has O'Dorothy been?
and it's time for breakfast and to get off to work....after work I get to help Grandma with an insurance issue then it's stew for dinner...
you all have a great day,
Chriss

Lois - I went to the grocery store after work yesterday. I didn't get home 'til 7:00.
Vicky - It's a good thing I'm not in a reading mood. Between work, this forum and watching The Quilt Show I'd never get any sewing/quilting done. Have fun with those babies.
Suz - praying for you and your first treatment.
Becca - you reminded me of what happened to my sister. She moved into a new house out in the country and they planted all kinds of flowers and bushes. A few days after they finished the yard they went outside and it was all gone - eaten by deer. She didn't have a clue that she was planting deer food.
Velda- you made me laugh. You know how men are - they need to be the best when it comes to games, hunting, fishing. And they especially don't want to be beat out by a woman. I see people playing Corn Hole but I had no idea what it was called. You are so lucky that you have so many choices of fun things to do.
Chriss - I knew you were a snob. I could just tell. You never talk much, etc. LOL LOL That crock pot roast: put about a 3 lb. roast in the crock pot and add about a cup of water; mix together 1 pkg. of dry Italian dressing mix, 1 pkg. dry Orig. Ranch dressing mix, and 1 pkg. dry brown gravy mix; sprinkle this mixture on the roast and cook on low for 8 hrs. I have added those tiny red potatoes and some baby carrots and added more water and it was good, too. Dang - I meant to buy a roast at the store yesterday but forgot. There was a surprising number of people around the meat so I didn't get much as I didn't feel like fighting my way to the front.
Judi - when they eat your bread, do they slather lots of butter on it? Ohhhhhh my mouth is watering!
I'm at work. Blah blah blah. Will go home and do a few necessary uglies, begin packing for camping this weekend and watch Downton Abby that we DVR'd. I think Nashville is coming on tonight, too.
May we all get to fondle some fabric today.

Re: Happy Hump Day Wednesday January 15, 2014
Good Morning,
LOIS - sounds like you will be having a good day!
VICKY = I haven't READ Jennifer Chiaverinni's books, but I've listened to several of her Elm Creek novels while I sew. They are easy to keep track of while my mind is on my sewing. Enjoy the babies!
SUZ - good thoughts go with you as you go for your first treatment.
BECCA - your baby quilts sound adorable! Are your blocks machine or hand embroidered? I know deer are around our place, because I've seen tracks occasionally, but in 27 years, I've only seen then twice. The same with bears. We have them, but I've only seen two. My brother, near Mt. Rainier, has elk that come all the time and strip his yard of plants and shrubs.
VELDA - I haven't played Corn Hole myself but I've seen other RVer's play it and it's always at our local Octoberfest. It's kind of like lawn darts or even horseshoes. By the way, I've found that you can easily Google rules for almost any game if anyone wants to know more about Corn Hole.
CHRISS - good luck with the job interview. Even if you decide you don't want the position it's good practice for when a position comes along that you do want. So are you saying your next swap will be a two color swap? I like that idea. I've never made one before. Not sure I'll enter it because I have plenty of fabric on board this RV and hardly any of it is red and I have 3 quilts that I HAVE to finish while we are out this winter. But I do like the red/white idea. I'll think about it and see where I am on my other projects.
JUDI - congratulations to your DGD on her business. I wish her good luck and fortune. What is she doing? When I was little my mom made 6 loaves of bread every day. She would hide one loaf for dinner, and 2 loaves for next days' lunches. And my 3 teenaged brothers and their friends would come home from school and polish off the rest of the hot bread, slathered in homemade butter. Sometimes they even shared with us little girls. Big YUM!
CINDY - you have so many things going on! Full time job, working on so many different projects at once, shopping, computer quilt programs, TV shows, camping. It's busy to be you! Will you be camping in the usual Gillentine site? Look across the little road and try to imagine an Arctic Fox fiver there, OK?
Our truck is repaired and we have it back as of 4pm yesterday. It was the clutch. The Dodge dealer here in Barstow estimated worst case ($4,000) and best case ($2,200). But it ended up being 'only' $2,125. They could have soaked us for our whole bank account. We were over that proverbial barrel. But they didn't. We're quite pleased. Today we're off to QZ!
Yesterday I got the rest of my blocks cut out for my sister's retirement quilt. Mostly pinks - 2 each of 8 different 12" blocks. No sewing yet and now probably not for a while as we are headed for the desert for a few weeks of ATV riding and visiting with friends. We will pass right thru Ehrenberg today where Carole is now. We're kind of leap-frogging each other. Will see her soon!

Re: Happy Hump Day Wednesday January 15, 2014
Good Morning,
I have been up since 4am, just could not lay in bed a minute longer.
Checked out all the news channels until they started repeating the same stuff. Now am watching an oldie "American President". DH and Luke are fast asleep and it is light out. Now why can't devil dog sleep like this at home. Guess he likes the motorhome.
I did bring some hand work with me so I think that I will get that out today after some uglies. I am STLL working on cathedral windows, but I think I will be working on these blocks until the day I die. I only hope I can get them done before that day comes. LOL
I was thinking of Mary and Bill last night and all the problems that they had. I totally forgot that on day one of this trip we got to the Elks Club in Indio, CA and all the house batteries went and we had to replace them. Then we noticed a lot of water on the ground and realized the hot water tank was either leaking or was shot. So DH went to the RV repair place and they said if it was the tank itself we were talking $1,200.00. Hmmm more than if it were in our home. What is with that. Long story short, it was a fitting and only cost $100.00. Yes, we were thrilled with that. Hmmm wonder if what you gals were saying is true here. Give us a big number and we are happy with whatever. LOL Why is it these rigs always have something going on?
Well I better get off here and check emails. Haven't heard from the kids because I am on vacation. It is nice to have a break from all the drama sometimes. The jerk is always causing drama, but then you know that. LOL
Will be checking on you ladies throughout the day, so behave or at least have fun doing whatever it is you are doing.
