Christmas Eve 2013

Post by Jules » Mon Dec 23, 2013 8:17 pm

Morning all, it's almost the big day, I hope everyone is ready and can relax today and enjoy the calm before the storm :)

I was planning on spending yesterday finishing cleaning and sorting my studio, but I had an appt to get my nails done, and I had the time wrong, so I arrived too early.....so I went and filled up the car with gas, called to the post office to collect a delivery I had missed, then went back and got my nails done, then charley asked me to pop round for lunch and it was 3pm before I got home.......so I WILL be spending the day in my studio finishing it off today :)

All the presents have been handed out, all the visiting done and we have 2 days of peace and quiet before we meet with all my family for lunch out on Boxing Day :) which is good as the weather here has been dreadful, torrential rain plus very high winds means lots of trees falling, road and rail disruption, localised flooding etc......I was up in the night watching the trees in a neighbours garden bending right over with the wind, the noise they were making was dreadful, I was sure they were going to uproot and end up in my house....luckily they have stayed upright for now :)

Anyway, I just want to wish you all a wonderful fun filled, love filled Christmas before it all gets too busy for us all to chat........you all deserve a wonderful time and I'm sure you've all been very good and find a lovely surprise or two under the tree from Santa :) thank you for your continued friendship and support, have a wonderful Christmas from the UK xxx

Good morning Jules and those that follow.
I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Hopefully our new year involves lots of fabrics and time to sew. I have some cookies to bake today and that is it! If I forgot anything there is always next year. This evening my son's girlfriend is coming over and we have finger foods and open gifts. I am hoping to get out to my studio and squeeze some me time in. Have a wonderful day.

Jules - I just saw on the news the bad weather you are getting in your country. I hope you and your family are doing ok.
Tess - I do the same every year. Make all the cookies and cakes we all live and then by the time it's time to enjoy it all I am ready for it to be over.

Merry Christmas Eve!! My favorite day of the year! I started the day at 5am, sorting laundry. Then on to clean the kitchen and get some chili started in the crockpot. So things aren't too different here, but it's Christmas uglies, not everyday ones, so they are more fun and festive!

We have a few things to pick up for tonite - deli tray, veggie tray, and rolls, but other than making the house ready for 12 folks tonite for finger foods and opening gifts, we're good here!

I want to wish every one of you a very merry and meaningful Christmas. You all mean the world to me! I can't start my day without you!

Group hug!!

Just a quick good morning all! My presents to my grandsons went to Japan two weeks ago so my gift giving is done. I actually like the non-stress of having to shop for everyone else. When my sons suggested it I was a little skeptical, but it is really nice. I don't need more things to dust. I just write checks to local charities. My baking is all done and passed out to everyone so now I can just "chill out" today and tomorrow. It is just DH and me tomorrow. We both come from very small families. We will Skype the boys tomorrow and have good chats. That is the only bad part about when your children grow up and their careers take them away from you. I know many of you know what I mean. Well, better go get DH some breakfast. Hope you all have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Good Christmas Eve morning to you all!
Awwwwwwwww Maryz, loved the group hug, great way to start my day!
I'll be finishing up my goodie baking this morning and then this afternoon move on to pies :-) and a few things for tomorrow like green beans and smashed taters, makes it way easier for them to be cooked.
I hope you all have a wonderful day! Prayers for those in need.
Everyone have a Very Merry Christmas!

Good morning... it's going to be a busy couple of days... I love the hub bub of all this kitchen stuff.. working with Jerry to get the meal on the table... fun fun.

Izzy, Jerry loves German Chocolate cake and gets one every year for his birthday. his mom used to make them for him...sadly with my working he has baked his own these last few years...

O'Dorothy, Dr. Phil has been in your family quite a while.. is he married into your family yet? I don't recall a wedding.. we are supposed to have mid 60's weather for Christmas so if you want to thaw out come here, it will be even warmer in the kitchen.. so warm that we open the front door to let the cool come in.

Becca, all right, what is a sweet potatoe souffle... it's not fair to throw something out there and leave me hanging...lol

Vicky.. not sure how the grocery stores around here were I am too afraid to go out...lol

Judi, I am looking up that lasagna recipe is this the one???
http://www.grouprecipes.com/34972/emeri ... sagna.html

Kathy, I so thought of you this morning.. Jerry was cleaning the kitchen and found a canning jar.. what did you ever do with all of yours? I only tip at a restraunt. double the tax and round up.. our tax is 8%.. we don't tip the mail lady...or anyone else... am I a scrooge?

Cindy, we had melmac plates when we were growing up.. I didn't know they still made them..

Redtop, I loved those oatmeal drop cookies... we made them in cooking class in middle school.. gosh they were good...

Jules, I don't care much for howling winds.. they can keep a person awake can't they... last night for me it was the dead quiet.. not a noise outside.. then I was thinking, I haven't even heard coyotes howl in such a long time.. maybe it's too cold for them to be out? glad you are getting things tidied up in that sewing room... lots of fun swaps are planned for the upcoming year...

Suzette, enjoy Sun-day.. My son will be here sometime today too and spend the night.. it's a good day...

Tess... ugh, you've doubled your guestlist over night.. that means less leftovers for you...lol

Maryz.. only you would make uglies festive by adding Christmas in front of ugly...lol...xo to you too.

Sherry, we also do the charity donation thing. only people who get gifts are those in generations below mine... so basically my son and granddaughter...

Tina, I have seen lists of things you can do before Christmas to make preparing Christmas dinner less frenzied on Christmas day, but we have never done it.. how do you re-heat your mashed potatoes..?

on the news there were fights in malls over Nike shoes.. people hitting and police being called.. we aren't a very civilized bunch in Cali...sad isn't it.. there are people in the streets with no shoes and people in the mall fighting over $150 shoes...shoes!!!!do you believe it? is this everywhere or just California where people are idiots?

Jerry is making peanut butter fudge, then I will see what his plans are for the rest of his cooking adventure.. he still has pies and cranberry salad to make and he's on the fence about making fruitcake. I need to make a big green salad and some deviled eggs.. Jerry thinks the eggs will stink up the fridge...

Jerry found a recipe for sweet potatoes that doesn't taste like maple syrup..

tomorrow is turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, peas, stuffing and gravy.. what all are you having?

hope you all have a day full of fun and that Santa is good to you...

Good Morning and Merry Christmas eve...I am waiting the dutiful 30 minutes after my medication to have coffee....slept till 830 this morning and up to straighten the bathroom and make the bed and run the sweeper upstairs. I have bread dough rising and Ken has brought in the lasagna sauce from the RV.(my spare refrigerator) all is well here and ready....I do need to wrap some paper around Sophia's cabinet,,,,we wanted to give it as much time as possible to air out...I advised Ken to start a little earlier next year if he is hand making gifts,,,

It is 12 here and very cold...I will get a fire going in the fireplace and bake the bread for dinner. Dough has risen overnight,, last minute check of toilet paper and towels.....then waiting for the kids to come.....Almost sad it is almost over for another year,,,,I could do Christmas every 2 or 3 months....but I would be too broke to do it..

Merry Christmas to all of you...I pray God will be good to you all in the New year, and that you will be good to yourselves too....XXXOOO

Opps stepped on your Chriss,,,,,yes that is the recipe....it does better if the sauce sits over night to blend the flavors....I skipped the veal and used half beef and pork....

Tina....I'm hopping you get all your baking/cooking done today,. You are right the more you get done today the easier tomorrow will. be. Have a Merry Christmas!

Chriss.....I love the thought of you & Jerry in the kitchen. I'm sad to say I had to recycle all my jars. I should have taken some with me. Just the weekday mail person got some coffee cake. Tipping or thinking about it just got too much. My mother gave me melmac dishes when I married. OH, OH have I got a fruit cake recipe for jerry. I'll write it up today. I call it "Not Your Grandmother's Fruitcake". Have a Merry Christmas!
