Good morning Pals
Where did the week go!!!! In between all the this and that of the week, I've been adding the last strips to my Christmas blocks making sure they were finished by Friday but WOW the week flew like a flash!!!!
Today is Rob's (DH) 66th birthday! WooHoo!!! I've been trying to make it special for him. It is just another day to him. On friday I took him out to Glorina's for Mexican before we went to the store to pick up the frosting for the German Chocolate cake. He wanted cake instead of Apple Pie this year ... probably because he knows right around the corner will be the Pie - LOL!!! Then last night I had left overs and I picked him up a ToGo Rib's dinner from the airport. Never knew he liked ribs till just recently. They have bones and he hates bones. The first chicken dinner I made him he gave it back and said he wouldn't eat it because it had bones so for the last 22.5 yrs we eat boneless chicken unless I buy a cooked chicken and pull it apart. Oh the things a wife will do - grinning. Today we will be going to church and then out to the airport for breakfast and then his gifts. He wanted a Big Boy Tool so I emailed the kids and they all pitched in to help pay for it. And that will be my day ... until I work on piecing a backing for a Log Cabin Quilt Jamie gave me on Wednesday. What are friends for if not to help piece backings. Plus she said I will get it finished faster :)

You know I have been lurking and keeping up with the Christmas Blocks and the Lotto Blocks and always looking at the Inspirational photos and even though I don't post enough I always think of you and include you in my prayers.

Could you please add Marcia to your prayers. BP is 204/97 and she is determined to finish her Christmas blocks even with a knee filled with steroids that are not working all that well. Such tenacity is to be blessed. Dr gave her different meds and sent her home - Ugh.

HUGE HUGS to you all!!!

I had planned on making yesterday a sewing day and I did get the binding made for Kim's quilt but things changed. Darryl needed to run out so Emily and I went with him. I got home to drop us off at Joann's and I got some wonder under, backing fabric for my Forest quilt, and a brown fabric for the eagle breast. We went out to lunch at Panera, then back home. I went out to check the tomatoes and it was determined that they needed to be done, NOW. So Emily and I did three batches of whole tomatoes, steamed one batch of paste which I turned into pizza sauce, and I canned 5 quarts of juice from making the paste. It was a busy day and I was dead tired last night.

My son Ross stopped over right in the middle of the canning. I haven't seen him in 6 weeks. It was nice to have him just stop by to see us. We loaded him up with veggies from the garden and some canned peaches :-)

Today is church and I have no idea yet what I'm making for fellowship meal. So I have to get going on that.

This is the Day the Lord has Made, Let's rejoice!

Good Morning

Well we had a sleepover with Joey last
night and he slept on the air mattress instead of the sleeping bag. he did good until about 6 am when he fell out of bed. He just got up crawled in bed with us and went back to sleep for a little while meor.

I am going to try something new today. I haven't finished the bag yet because it is a nautical theme and I am having a hard time finding the perfect button for it. I looked on line and fount that one button can cost me as much as 7.00. I then came across something on line where a lady made a button and the placement of the holes she used blue thread and it looks like an anchor. It is perfect for me.

I am going to walmart today to get the stuff to do it.'

I will post a picture of it when I make it.

Have to go make breakfast for Joe.

Have a wonderful day
God Bless you all

Good morning everyone.
I went out to my studio and had to turn on the heat this morning. Nina the Bernina was shivering. The Pinwheel quilt is done, the label is done also. I have to finish the edges of the label so it can be sewn on when I sew on the binding. Hopefully, all that can be done today and then it will become an inside project. I am toying with what will become my next project. I was going to start my nephew's wedding quilt but they are having a few problems. Worse comes to worse it will be a late wedding present. Well, I have a couple things to do and then go back out to my studio. Have a wonderful day.

Good morning.. another wonderful day...

we lost our soccer game.. two kids didn't show and we had to borrow a kid from the other team.. one of the kids will likely never show.. can you imagine paying $75 and your kid just "doesn't want to" and you say.. ok son.. wow huh?

Izzy, glad the new foster daughter is a good match.. what kind of work does your DH do?

O'Dorothy, I love soccer, it gets Marilyn off of her tush and running... on Thursday she has back to school night and that is when she will sign up for the alto sax.. so fun for her..

Maryz. glad the pup has a name... I didn't know they were Scottish dogs

Jana, happy long arm and new fabric.. woo hoo it's doubly good to be you.

Tina.. that block is looking good.. I love sampler quilts.

Teresa, happy bday to DH.. Jerry also likes German chocolate cake...weren't you going to go see yoru son or did I miss it?

Vicky.. nice that Ross was able to get some goodies for visiting you.. I bet the food is great after church, is it mostly casseroles? sounds like a cook book in the making.

Dolores, it is amazing how expensive buttons are... but yoru anchor idea sounds like a good one..glad Joey crawled into bed with you, it's always cool to sleep with grandma and grandpa when your a kid.

Suzette, hope things work out for your nephew..what pattern were you going to use on the wedding quilt?

I got a bit of sewing done yesterday but then my aunt showed up so I visited most of my afternoon away.. I will finish my calendar blocks after church then move onto a thingy for my secret santa...

hope you all have a super day.

Good Morning!

IZZY - the CO flooding is north in the area of Boulder, Longmont, (which are north of Denver) and west up into the foothills. Both my sisters are in it but their homes are OK. Water came to end of my older sis's street - 7 houses from them. They were ready for evac but didn't have to. So happy your DFD is working out so well. Are you happy that your DH is going back to work? What does he do? My DH did that, too. Twice!

TINA - your A.S. block is perfect! I had such a problem with that one! I saved it for last. Don't know what my 'block' was. lol!!

TERESA - Happy Birthday to your your DH! Your story of Rob refusing to eat chicken with bones made me think of the Gary Larson cartoon of the boneless chicken ranch where he had all the flat chickens laying around the pen. Are your Christmas blocks finished? Today's the day you have to mail them, you know . . ;o) is the airport you're going to in Tahachapi? We heard it's very good.

VICKY - how great to see your son! I don't get to see mine very often either. Would love drop-in visits. I thought you were done with tomtoes. are you now? Your family must really love tomatoes! My DD won't eat them at all. But they say they are one of the "super foods".

DELORES - way to solve a problem! And your anchor will be, not only more perfect, but better because you made it yourself! I would love to see photos when you're done?

SUZ - Yay on the pinwheel! Congrats! You could always work on the braid just in case . . . . Or is there anything you've been holding back that's just for yourself? Now could be the time!

CHRISS - happy Sunday! Too bad about the soccer. They had to borrow a kid from the other team?? Sounds like you had a nice visit with your aunt. Too bad you can't clone yourself for just such an occasion so one of yourselves can stay in your sewing room!

CHICKIE - your trip to deliver the sewing machine sounds like a fun girls' day out! Tell your mom 'hi'for me. I think of her every night when I cuddle up with her little pillows.

Our little Scottie is adjusting so well! He doesn't act like he misses mom or his playmates at all. He does love his daddy, though! He trails along after him everywhere, eyes glued to Bill's heels. He had a fine time yesterday playing with the cute puppy he saw in the reflection of the refrigerator.

In case you didn't see last night's post, our puppy is "SCOTTIE". Jana's suggestion of Patches/Patch came so close! close enough that she earns the prize anyway! congratulations, Jana!! Watch your mailbox for FABRIC!!

Today I'm serving a lunch to my 'birthday club' as we call ourselves. WE're all former co-workers from the NICU. We've gotten together 3 or 4 times a year for almost 20 yrs now. Chicken Salad served in a big empty cream puff, tomato basil soup, hot rolls, and apple crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream for 'afters'.

Hope your day is a good one!

Mary Z

Good morning, Cotton Pals! We are going to be back up in the low 90s today. Our rain “chances” keep evaporating, we’re still watering. Today will be a laundry and floors day.

From yesterday… Tina, your storm at sea block is beautiful! I do so want to make that quilt!!!

MaryZ—Scottie is such a cute name for a darling puppy! It fits with his heritage. Sure sounds like Scottie is bonding with Bill!!! Isn’t it sweet! That’s like Tinker Bell and Doyal. I miss the Gary Larson cartoons! I will tell Mom hello for you. She is making some more pillows and some aprons for my sister to take to a couple of craft shows in November. She may make some embroidered tea towels, too. Can you imagine—she will be 95 the third of November!!! She blows me away with all she does! Such an inspiration!!! You have me at chicken salad in a cream puff!!! Too bad there are no direct flights… I might get there next week if I were lucky!

Izzy—great news about your DH going back to work and your getting to “retire”!!! I’m sure you can appreciate my Odie tale.
I have an Odie story. He was my little shining star last night. He really made up for running away from me Wednesday at the LQS! Last evening, my DD and I met at the little town half way between us—the 25-mile middle. There is a convenience store there where we usually trade whatever it is we have. For a reason I’ll tell you later, we didn’t stay there but went into town and stopped at their little park. I gave her the baby shower gifts I’d made, the baby quilt for DGD’s teacher, the vanity stool and cushion, the little shelf brackets I’d purchased at an antique store for her, some fresh cantaloupe and several other items. The grandkids took Odie over to the park to play and Shelly and I followed to visit. There were quite a few little children there, and of course Odie was a magnet to them. You must remember, Odie lives with two old people and no children… I was so proud of him! He let the little ones pet him, check his ears, scratch him, give him hugs and kisses… He just sat up and gave back kisses. The rest of this part of the story is… all of these children were special needs children, some with severe needs (motorized wheel chairs, blindness, etc.). At first Odie wasn’t sure about the wheelchair, but he soon relaxed as a little girl put her hand down for him to “pet” her as she wasn’t able to pet him. The glow on her face was so priceless!!! Some people riding horses stopped at the park and gave some of the children rides, but Odie still commanded his share of attention in our corner. It was such a sweet evening!!! As we were leaving, I saw that the children came from a group home about a block from the park.

The incident that made us go to the park… When I pulled in to the parking lot to wait, a guy came out of the C-store with a bunch of something (candy wrappers, napkins?) stuffed in his mouth—just looking really strange. I always have my doors locked, and had the windows cracked. I sat there for awhile kind of watching him out of the corner of my eye… He went over behind some other cars, then he came out and was waving and signaling and trying to get me to go over there (no one else anywhere around). I was having no part of it. I saw my DD’s car coming and telephoned her. She looked questioningly at me and answered. I started explaining the situation, and she saw him… at that time, he came up to my truck and started asking questions… “Did you see what happened to me on the highway? Hey, I wrecked my car and someone gave me a ride here. Do you know about insurance?” All the while he was dancing around like he was (probably) on drugs… I told him I knew nothing about his insurance and to my DD still on the phone, “Let’s get out of here; follow me.” That’s how we ended up at the park… He was gone when we went back by on our way home.

Teresa—happy B-day to Rob! My late DH was that way about bones, too. Sounds like a fun evening!

Chriss—The “quitting” thing happens over here, too. Shelly will not let her kids quit “just because”. I don’t think there ever has been enough of a “darn good reason.” I can’t wait to get to go see Daniel play junior varsity for the high school! They are playing in Kansas City next weekend. Soccer doesn’t stay in the same “league/conference” as the other sports. I guess because not all the schools (less than half) in the conference have soccer teams. It has been a recreation center or youth program mostly and is just now making it into the schools. I’m sure hoping he will get a college scholarship for all these years… When they moved to Pittsburg, they didn’t have youth soccer for his age group, and he was invited to try out for and made it on a traveling team. Lots of work, but if he could get some college funds… worth it!

Jana—it’s good to be you!!! Have fun with your new machine!!! I like the name Patches, too! What else, right, for a dog living with two quilters???

Vicky—sounds like you had a fun day yesterday. I know you could use the relaxing outing, even if it meant you had to come home to tomatoes. Lunch at Panera would have made the tomato work all worthwhile! I haven’t been getting enough tomatoes for anything except eating. DH brought home veggies from DS3’s last evening… potatoes (purple, gold, white, sweet), some squashes, and okra.

Dolores—those times with the grands are precious!!! Buttons can be crazy expensive!!! Have you ever thought of making your own from Fimo clay or one of the other clays you bake in your oven? I look forward to your pictures!!!

Suzette—our AC is still kicking on here… even at night. It’s too dusty to open windows, so we just set the thermostat and keep it there. It’s good to hold off on the quilt… just in case…

I must get the laundry sorted and started… I’m late… I’m late… Oh well. I told DH when he went off to “have coffee with the guys” that I was having coffee with the gals…

Have a blessed Sunday!

Good Morning Girls

Cloudy and chilly here this morning, but it's wonderful and I'll take it! We finally got some rain yesterday and things are starting to green up a little. Spend most of yesterday battling a head ache that just would NOT go away... even with my drug of choice "Excedrin"--even a little nap didn't help. So it was hard to feel ambitious for the uglies and I was lazy most of the day. Though I did work on some of my Calendar blocks. Ran into town for a hair cut, and there was a little craft fair going on, so visited that for minute and bought some darling crocheted scarves for my girls, even tho I know it's some I COULD do, if I had all the time in world. Would have browsed around some more and done a little more shopping, but discovered I was out of checks and had no cash on me!

Today I'm going to concentrate on laundry and Calendar Blocks. DS2 and family might come out for a bit. If it wasn't so wet I'd talk Kevin into doing a little bit of yard work for me, but maybe I can find an inside project for him to help with.

Maryz... Love the name Scottie! From the pictures I've seen, I think it fits him quite well. Check out KUSA.com--it's the local news station in Denver, lots of amazing pictures of the flood. My BFF lives in LaSalle and can't get to work because roads are closed. Oh what a mess clean up is going to be! Hope you have a great lunch with your girls! How great that you can all keep in touch and have get togethers after all these years!

Teresa.... Happy Birthday to Rob!! LOVE German choc. Cake...save me a piece? You are a good wife to pull apart chicken so it has no bones. My "good wife" thing was to make asparagus for DH even tho the smell of it made my stomach turn. Will keep Marcia in prayers!

Izzy... glad to hear your DFD is working out well, I bet she will be nice company for your DD too. You get to retire in May.. color me green! I have a package ready to mail to you tomorrow!

Chriss.... sorry Mar lost her first game. It's amazing to me that kids don't show up for games. Brennen's team had the same problem, made it hard for the kids that did show up. Bren always had to play because my son Shawn was the coach! I'm anxious to get my Calendar blocks done too as I have lots of ideas dancing around in my head for the 3 baby girls quilts I need to make and of course SS "thingees"

Suzette... for just a minute yesterday I thought of turning the heat on in the house...seems way to early to crank up the furnace tho. I so love having windows open!

Delores.... before you go buy a button... let me look in my button jar. I bet I have the perfect button for you. I THINK I have a Navy Blue button with an anchor on it! I'll let you know by PM if I find it.

Vicky.... do you feel like you're about to turn INTO A TOMATO!! I so love your Forest quilt! Such a work of art! Is that one you are going to keep or honor someone with? Isn't it great to have the kids stop by.

Chickie.... what a wonderful Odie story! Your DH going out with "the boys" reminds me of my Dad. He would always meet his buddies at a McDonalds for breakfast and since a lot of the staff there were mostly Spanish speaking, at 75 yrs old he took Spanish lessons so he could order his breakfast in Spanish! He enjoyed those meetings so much because they could always talk politics and he would go on a rant about those darn Democrats!

Well girls, I think I better get in gear here. Need to gather up all the laundry and go have a dance with Mr. Maytag! Would love to finish my Calendar blocks today. This next week I work late shift all week so I may even get a little time to sneak down to the sewing room!

Wishing you all a very blessed day....

Good Morning, I feel a bit better today,,,,still tired and a little depression moved in yesterday, , Some friends are stopping by for a visit this after noon so it is good reason to get cleaned up and dressed proper. Pain is pretty much gone...just uncomfortable/ I even managed to do the dishes this morning,,,just a few light things into the dishwasher and wiped the counter,,very little energy.

No sewing here I did a few hexxies but not able to do much yet....Tomorrow I see the bone Dr for the results of my tests,,,,here again I need massive prayers that I can go on a pill and be no worse....This scares me more, . my blood pressure is through the roof here too. Please pray, Thanks for all your good wishes , Pms and cards you all are so special. XXXOOO

Good morning!

I need to go started packing again, but wanted to see what y'all have been up to. Love the name Scottie!

We had torrential rain here yesterday with lots of strong wind. We could not see across the street it was raining so hard. DS1 worked yesterday and it took him almost two hours to drive home because of all the road closures. I was here for t he floods I the 1960s but this one takes the cake.

Miriam I am sending you some rain. Glad you didn't get out of your car. Odie is a keeper.

Take care, my quilty friends. Xoxo Sharona
