Good morning Pals
Yesterday was National Book Day so I read some and then worked on the computer for a while. Joan whooped my toosh at Scrabble but it was a great game.

I did finish the Charity quilt to give to the Ladies on Sunday and I started the pillow shams BUT the mind is fried and the computer is not helping me ... so I am looking for any info on making ruffles for pillow shams ... my strips are cut at 4" ... how many inches do I need for a 22" x 28" pillow. I know there is a formula somewhere out there.

Today after I wake up I want to finish the pillow shams and then finish the Christmas Swap blocks. Shhhhhh don't tell anyone though or they won't get done - LOL!!!

I can't remember who asked but long story short ... one day I woke up in May 1997 and thought my son was in school. It was a standing request from the kids that I leave them alone to do what they knew needed done to catch the bus. They had a schedule and it worked for them perfectly. I always had my eyes and ears open but for some reason I didn't look out the window that day to watch them walk down the street. The school never called, DD didn't call to tell me he did not get on the bus and when she came home asked if he was there, a friend came over and asked if her son was there, the bank called and asked if I had signed a withdrawal slip, the police came over and put out an bulletin for both boys. I was terrified for days. Couldn't eat, sleep, always in tears and sat by the phone until he finally called and said he was in IA. Everyone who knew and loved him were in absolute shock/disbelief and no one has ever been the same since. That was just the beginning of the downward rollercoaster ride that you never think will happen to you. I always knew that music could get you through the valleys but when I went to sing/play the guitar in the church group like I had done for years - there was no music, just a broken heart. I tried going to back to the same church but everytime I did I would break down again. I tried a different church but it was always the same. After years DH asked if I would go with him to his church and this is where I am today after 16 years. We are still on the ride though the valleys are not as drastic. So if you could please keep my family in your prayers I would be grateful.

HUGE HUGS for all and prayers for a pieceful weekend
T

Good morning Teresa and those that follow.
I didn't get into my studio at all yesterday. Today I probably won't either. But, this morning I am going to Joann's to get backing for the pinwheel quilt and whatever else may jump in the cart. You know how tose things just jump off the shelf into the cart. I have to also get started on my nephew's wedding present. I am making the couple a Braid in a Day quilt. I have only made one but it was so easy. Well, off to get a cup of coffee. Have a great day.
Teresa - hope you have a great day.

Good Morning,

Well I talked to my brother in law last night
and he told me that they had to put a plate
and a screw into Lois's ankle . He also said
that if all goes well she will have someone
come in and teach her how to walk with crutches
and she will probably go home late this afternoon.

I will try to call her around 10 or so to check on her.

I think this is going to be a long road to travel.
I am hoping and praying that she has a speedy
painless recovery.

Please everyone keep her in your prayers.

Teresa I will also have you in my prayers.

Have a wonderful day Everyone.

Dolores

Delores -
I don't remember what happened to Lois's ankle but I broke my leg right above the ankle. I have a metal plate and seven screws on my leg. This happened back in 2002 and today it is fine. Tell her not to rush anything. It will take time.

Morning all

Teresa – can’t help with the ruffle math....my brain doesn’t work well in that way anymore :) thanks for the background and I’m glad your valleys are not as deep, keeping you and your family inmy prayers x

Suze – ooh a trip to Joanns sounds just the thing to do when you can’t get in your studio :) have a great day

Dolores – i think ankles are difficult because they are so flexible which is why they pin them, prayers for Lois for a full and speedy recovery :)

Well I’m getting to spend the day relaxing in my studio, my joints are killing me today so I’m having a quiet day in my studio, just poodling around, I might make something or I might just tidy and rearrange a few things :) As I’m in so much pain today, DH has done the grocery shop and run to the post office for me, so I’ve taken painkillers and will just have a quiet day

Love and prayers for you all, will pop back later xx

Good Morning All! Didn't get on here yesterday. It was a busy day here. We needed to get our boat out of the water/dock and clean it up. We always take it out of the water on weekends. Just don't fish on the weekends, when there is more boat traffic.

Then we had to do laundry. I was going to go on Thurs., but my brother came to visit for the afternoon and it was easy to but the Mount Washmore aside. But then it always HAS TO BE DONE, sometime!

Enjoyed our visit with my brother. He lost his wife back in May and this summer has been a tough one for him.

Teresa, my heart goes out to you and your family. Keeping you in my prayers for healing.

About the ruffles, it has always been a rule of thumb that ruffles is 2 to 3 times the length needed, in order to make the right amount of ruffle when gathered. Don't know if there is an actual formula. You could take a scrap of fabric about one width from salvage to salvage, then run a gathering stitch and gather it down to 1/3 the size and test and see if the gathers are ruffled enough. If so, then go with 3 times the length.

Good luck with your project.

Good Morning Girls

A quick fly-by this morning as I am getting ready to go to work... am dreading the day, in fact the whole weekend. We have a relief pharmacist and Saturdays lately seem to be crazy--not like the quiet days we used to have! TWO MORE DAYS... I hope I can survive 2 more days!

Will keep you all in prayers today though..
Ken's Back
Lois's ankle
Judi's surgery
Kathy's DD
Autumn
Maryz's new puppy
Teresa's hurting heart

and any one else that can use a cyber-hug... you got it!

Have a wonderful day every one!

Happy Saturday! We got to meet our puppy yesterday and it was love at first sight! But then, how could it not be - He's a puppy!! and he had that awful, sweet puppy breath. I loved it! There's photos on FB but I'll try to put on up here, too.

TERESA - I spent a lot of yesterday "celebrating" Book Day, without even knowing it was Book Day! And me, the mother of a librarian. I should be ashamed! Such a sad story about your son. No wonder you are so looking forward to seeing him. I will say some prayers for your whole family. God bless! As to ruffle math, when I took Home Ec, back with Dino, The Dinosaur, the formula was 2 to 2-1/2 times the length of your project. i.e., 20" would need 40" to 50" of fabric, gathered. It depends on the fabric you are using, the size of the ruffle, and the look you want.

CINDY - "Jax" isn't bad for Puppy Name. But since we're getting him on Friday, 13th, I kind of like "Lucky". Bill is coming out for "Gunner". (Bill loves target shooting.) This is harder than naming the kids!

SUZ - happy Joann's! I need some backing fabric, too, but there's no rush. So it's on our "Tacoma List". Between fuel and bridge tolls it costs us $8 to $10 just to drive to Tacoma and back, so we wait until we both have a list of errands and spend the day. Your pinwheel quilt is beautiful!

LOIS - don't know if you're able to be with us yet, but prayers for you, too! A scary accident! are you in much pain? Wishing you a speedy an complete recovery.

VICKY - well your day certainly got busy fast! But you're right - when the opportunity strikes, you have to do what you can - or is that can what you do? anyway - Happy preserving!

CHICKIE - maybe that was Timi sneaking into the house to give you a big thank you kiss for all those apple peelings! lol!

JUDI - happy to have you home safe and sound. But glad you had such a nice, relaxing vacation prior to your surgery. And now don't overdo too much. You want to be rested up for that operation. Though, I know how it is after being gone a week - you come home and trash the big house while emptying and cleaning the little house. And the list goes on for days! But I do hope you're done and can sit back and rest the day before . .

KARLENE - bite your tongue! Two puppies! We don't know yet if we can handle one! But don't worry about the other puppy. There were 3 other people vying for him! He's going to do OK. And so will ours. However, how Bill and I do remains to be seen! lol!!

DELORES - do you live close to Lois? Thanks for your updates! Please give her hugs from all of us!

JANA - I love Michael's idea of the curtain. It could be made from various orphan blocks! And I have some contributions if you'd like them! And while you don't need batting, you might want backing . . . I like it!!

TINA - you are desperate to handle fabric if you're washing curtains! haha! We have pix of Puppy on FB. And, EVERYBODY, we credit Tina with getting us started on the hunt for a new dog. We were sitting around moping and she sent us a photo of a rescue sheltie she'd found. While that dog went to a different home, it got us moving. and here we are! Though, TINA, we're holding off our thanks until we see how these puppy months go . . . lol!!

JULES - I hope you're feeling better soon. I think puttering in your sewing room is a great way to relax and distract yourself from pain. Just remember to take frequent rests!

VELDA - so sorry for your brother. I'm glad he came to visit you! does he live close by? i remember when he lost his wife, but not where he lived. and no worries - the laundry ALWAYS waits for you! lol!!

JUDI - oh no! Now Ken's down, too?? Time to call in those kids to help you both! I hope he's better soon. Will the chiropractor see him on an emergency basis over the weekend?

MARY Q - Wishing you a surprisingly good day at work!! Thanks for your prayers and good wishes! I got my baby. Now if Autumn can just get hers, our family will be good!

CHRISS - how did Marilyn's first week of school go? and yours??

CINDY - hope you get your nap in today! What's zactec? Did I say that right? I'm too lazy to go back and hunt up your post. Why do you have to keep having it done?

I'm still hobbling around on my bad leg. No sewing here. and I just remembered that I have to go to my DD's Pampered Chef party today. Darn!! I'd skip it except a friend asked me if she could come, too. She may have to drive and carry me into the house. Like Jules, I putter in my sewing room, (cleaning, 'whomping' fabric, etc) for a while, and then go lay down for a while. I sure hope this is better by Puppy Time! I have 6 days to get it together! And DH wants to go shopping today, too, for a puppy bed, food, playpen, toys, chew bones, collar, etc. Guess I'll be hitting the bottle pretty hard today. The ibuprofen bottle, that is!

Prayers for all that need them!
